This came after the prime minister and public health officials voiced concerns about a potential increase in Covid-19 cases.

 48.
Kenika Ounjit, a spokeswoman for the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, announced yesterday that local authorities have been instructed to ensure hospitals are equipped and ready to handle an influx of potential patients.

 49.
The public, especially those displaying cold-like symptoms, are urged to wear face masks in public, regularly wash their hands and undertake an ATK test. Furthermore, individuals who have tested positive for the virus are advised to limit their contact with people from the 608 at-risk group. This group includes elderly individuals, expectant mothers, and individuals with seven identified high-risk diseases.

 50.
Kenika noted that Covid-19 is now classified as a communicable disease that is under surveillance according to the Communicable Diseases Act (2015).

 51.
The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has reported that between April 14 and 20, a total of 1,004 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals, which averages to 143 people per day. Most of these cases were reported in Bangkok and the major tourist provinces.

 52.
Among those infected from the 608 at-risk group during this period, there were three fatalities, 292 cases of pneumonitis, and 101 cases requiring intubation, according to the DDC.

 53.
Dr Atchawin Rodjanawat, director of the National Institute of Health (NIH), stated that the majority of Covid-19 cases identified this year are now of the JN.1 sub-variant. This Omicron sub-variant has been diagnosed in at least 90% of cases since January. This data is based on samples collected by the NIH from approximately 20 patients weekly.

 54.
The Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) record, which tracks global Covid-19 variants, indicates that this variant is now present worldwide.

 55.
Despite the emergence of this new sub-variant, Dr Manoon Leechawengwongs, a pulmonologist at Vichaiyut Hospital, assured that the disease’s severity is currently low, reported Bangkok Post.

 56.
The primary symptoms are infections in the upper respiratory tract, including the throat and nose, rather than the lower respiratory system, such as the lungs and bronchia.

 106.
The monks and their accomplices are suspected of violating the sanctity of the wildlife sanctuary’s protected grounds.

 107.
The Suomi NPP satellite pinpointed 14 hotspots in a forest located in Nong Bua Daeng, Chaiyaphum on Tuesday. Responding swiftly, the Phu Khiao officers dispatched forest rangers to carry out an extensive patrol of the flagged region.

 108.
The patrolling rangers stumbled upon a group of individuals in the heart of the forest, descending from a cliff two days later on April 25 at exactly 11am. Upon requesting an inspection, the rangers faced resistance as the group allegedly attempted to flee the scene, with one individual even reportedly firing three rounds at the officers.

 109.
Despite the chaotic attempts at evasion, two suspects were apprehended by the officers. These included a Deputy Provincial Abbot and a neophyte. However, seven other suspects managed to elude capture. The officers were later able to identify the escapees, comprising three more monks and four followers, and initiated a manhunt to apprehend them.

 110.
In the course of the arrest, the officers seized a 22mm pistol, a toy gun, and seven rucksacks filled with carcasses of wild animals. These items were recorded as evidence, and the captured suspects were escorted to the Non Mao police station for further legal proceedings, reported Pattaya News.

 111.
The monks’ response to the allegations remains undisclosed, and it remains uncertain whether they will face additional punitive actions from the monkhood, such as potential defrocking and expulsion.

 112.
In related news, a Thai man caught his Democrat Party politician wife committing adultery with a Thai monk who was also their adoptive son. 160.
The incident was reported to Deputy Inspector Atthachai Nuimat, an investigator at the Taling Chan Police Station, who arrived at the scene with emergency medical personnel from Siriraj Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

 161.
They discovered the 50 year old Thai delivery man, Chayapat Nithipibulnon’s body lying face down in a pool of blood, with a severe head wound and multiple abrasions on his body. Near the body lay a dislodged reflective traffic sign, believed to have fallen from the overpass, which soars more than 20 metres above the ground.

 162.
Chayapat’s white Yamaha NMAX scooter, bearing the licence plate 8กพ 4864, was found on the overpass, its front end scratched and damaged. On the right handlebar hung three bags of chicken rice, indicating that Chayapat was likely on his way to deliver the food to his home. It is presumed that he was riding at high speed and lost control of the motorbike while navigating a curve, causing him to crash into the sign and fall to his death.

 163.
The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Chayapat was the sole provider for his 11 year old twin sons, reported KhaoSod.

 164.
Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the accident. In the meantime, Chayapat’s body has been sent for further forensic examination at Siriraj Hospital’s medical facility. His family will later retrieve his remains for religious rites.

The operation, which took place yesterday, saw more than 20 officers combing through markets in the Pratunam area, a hotspot for immigrant worker activity.

 215.
Prompted by grievances from residents, who claimed immigrant workers from Cambodia, Burma, Laos, and Vietnam were unlawfully peddling goods without supervision, immigration authorities sprung into action. The probe revealed 13 individuals, split into two groups, caught red-handed flouting labour laws.

 216.
The first group, comprised of undocumented workers, faced immediate deportation, while the second group, possessing work permits but violating working conditions, found themselves in hot water for illicitly setting up stalls.

 218.
In a stern message to the public, Thai immigration officers underscored the paramount importance of adhering to legal frameworks when seeking employment in the country. Concerned citizens were urged to report any suspicions of illegal immigrant activity directly to authorities via the dedicated hotline at 1178.
