According to their findings, the Eastern Economic Corridor, spanning three provinces, experienced a 60 percent reduction in rainfall compared to normal levels in 2023. However, current reservoir levels indicate that there is still 52 percent of total capacity available.</p> <p>Despite the presence of El Niño, there is optimism that the current dry season will transition into rainfall by mid-May. Veeris Ammarapala, the governor of IEAT, assured that there is no immediate crisis thanks to additional water sources for the region’s 6,000 factories. These sources include reservoir transfers, procurement of raw water from companies, and wastewater treatment facilities to recycle resources.</p> <p>Mr. Veeris stated, “Authorities are confident that there will be sufficient water supply for factories, agriculture, and public consumption until the rainy season, expected between May and June.” While there is no imminent threat of water rationing for hotels and residences in Pattaya, there is anticipation for the approaching rains. This policy shift aims to stimulate consumption in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.</p> <p>A committee will convene this month to evaluate the readiness of various industries for the wage increase and to consider potential assistance for those that may not be prepared, stated spokesperson Chai Wacharonke.</p> <p>Despite revising down its growth projection for 2024 to 2.4% from 2.8%, the government remains optimistic that growth could rebound to 3.3% if its anticipated 500 billion baht “digital wallet” initiative, aimed at boosting spending, is rolled out in the fourth quarter as planned.</p> <p>Last year, the government announced a modest increase in the daily minimum wage, ranging from 330 baht to 370 baht, a move criticized by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin as insufficient. They settled in the central province of Lopburi, known for its ancient Buddhist temples and resident monkeys.</p> <p>Upon reaching the age of 70 and beginning to claim his state pension, it was fixed at £614 monthly. Combined with his private pension, the couple’s income stands at just under £1,000 per month. Initially, this sufficed for a comfortable lifestyle in Thailand, where daily expenses are generally lower compared to the UK. However, Peters now finds himself grappling with diminishing spending power due to inflation and rising living costs, necessitating sacrifices to make ends meet.</p> <p>“I’ve had to compromise on what I would like to do, and I just make sure that all our bills are paid,” he explained. “Day-to-day, we live quite a modest lifestyle.”</p> <p>Without medical insurance, seeking medical attention and obtaining prescription medications for his high blood pressure, liver, and kidney issues would cost approximately £200 per visit. Peters revealed that he had been regularly attending a government hospital until about a year ago when he could no longer afford the appointments. Consequently, he resorts to self-medicating and cautious lifestyle choices to manage his health conditions.</p> <p>“These are the sorts of choices you have to make due to this measly policy, I mean, it’s undemocratic,” Peters lamented, referring to the frozen UK state pension for expatriates.</p> <p>He is among the roughly half a million British citizens living abroad who do not benefit from annual state pension increases, unlike those residing in the UK, who receive adjustments based on the triple lock mechanism.</p> <p>Campaigners have long advocated for a policy change, denouncing the current system as unjust.</p> <p>Peters believes that the additional funds he’s missing out on could significantly enhance his quality of life. “It would give me a fair amount of extra spending money, and I would be able to afford to do more things like going out or going to the occasional concert,” he remarked, expressing regret for not fulfilling promises made to his wife years ago.</p> <p>Comparing his situation to expatriates from other European countries, Peters feels disadvantaged, as pensioners from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands receive annual pension increases.</p> <p>A Department for Work and Pensions spokesperson reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring pensioners receive entitled financial support. According to police reports on Friday, a sachet containing 0.42 grams of cocaine was found within Swain’s passport at the inbound passenger terminal at approximately 7 pm.</p> <p>The arrest occurred subsequent to an immigration officer examining Swain’s passport at a designated counter. Upon inspection, the officer uncovered a plastic sachet containing a suspicious substance. Swain appeared visibly surprised by the discovery. The group set out from Jomtien Beach towards Koh Maravichai on May 1st, 2024.</p> <p>Following the discovery of their empty boat near Koh Si Chang, a search operation was initiated. The individuals, Adrien Simon (38), Mehdi Benchoula (47), Vincent Ferrer (30), and Stefan Stauat (32), were found unharmed on Koh Maravichai the following day.</p> <p>The rescue mission involved several local agencies, including the Pattaya Tourist Police and Pattaya Marine Rescue Volunteers. Subsequently, the four men were safely transported to a nearby beach in Sattahip in good health.</p> <p>Mr. Simon detailed that the group had engaged in diving and fishing activities off Koh Maravichai, leaving their boat anchored. Unfortunately, the boat became untethered and drifted away during their absence. Law enforcement officials discovered her body near the swimming pool with apparent gunshot wounds on her left temple and wrist.</p> <p>An automatic firearm, bullet shell, glass of vodka, sunglasses, and cigarettes were discovered near the body, alongside signs of a gunshot in the villa’s door. It was a pool maintenance worker who stumbled upon the scene and alerted the authorities upon discovering Delacote’s lifeless body and alarming pool of blood.</p> <p>Before her passing, Delacote had transferred a sum of 500,000 baht to Nutwalai for her funeral expenses, indicating a thoughtful gesture towards her loyal maid. While Nutwalai suspected that her employer had taken her own life due to the messages she had sent prior to the incident, including her intention to leave her assets to the maid, she mentioned that Delacote had not mentioned anything about suicide despite revealing her battle with cancer.</p> <p>The firearm found at the scene was acquired by Delacote following a burglary at the villa, as per Nutwalai’s account. The payment, they claimed, had to be in cash, and they were not informed of its purpose or usage.</p> <p>In response, the NACC devised a plan to apprehend the school official using marked banknotes. Immediately after the transaction was completed, police and the NACC approached the suspect and charged him with wrongfully demanding, accepting, or agreeing to accept a bribe under Section 149 of the Criminal Code, and wrongfully exercising duties as a state official under Section 157.</p> <p>Further investigation revealed information on his computer indicating involvement in other bribery cases with parents.
