43.
The ongoing drought in central provinces, such as Chonburi and the Pattaya region, is raising concerns, as reported by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT). According to their findings, the Eastern Economic Corridor, spanning three provinces, experienced a 60 percent reduction in rainfall compared to normal levels in 2023. However, current reservoir levels indicate that there is still 52 percent of total capacity available.

44.
45.
46.
47.
Despite the presence of El Niño, there is optimism that the current dry season will transition into rainfall by mid-May. Veeris Ammarapala, the governor of IEAT, assured that there is no immediate crisis thanks to additional water sources for the region’s 6,000 factories. These sources include reservoir transfers, procurement of raw water from companies, and wastewater treatment facilities to recycle resources.

48.
49.
50.
51.
Mr. Veeris stated, “Authorities are confident that there will be sufficient water supply for factories, agriculture, and public consumption until the rainy season, expected between May and June.” While there is no imminent threat of water rationing for hotels and residences in Pattaya, there is anticipation for the approaching rains. The Pattaya water authority confirmed that significant water rationing has not occurred since an unusually prolonged dry spell in 2008.

79.

Thailand’s government is planning to raise the daily minimum wage to 400 baht ($10.84) starting October, according to a spokesperson on Thursday. This policy shift aims to stimulate consumption in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.

80.
81.
82.
83.
A committee will convene this month to evaluate the readiness of various industries for the wage increase and to consider potential assistance for those that may not be prepared, stated spokesperson Chai Wacharonke.

84.
85.
86.
87.
Despite revising down its growth projection for 2024 to 2.4% from 2.8%, the government remains optimistic that growth could rebound to 3.3% if its anticipated 500 billion baht “digital wallet” initiative, aimed at boosting spending, is rolled out in the fourth quarter as planned.

88.
89.
90.
91.
Last year, the government announced a modest increase in the daily minimum wage, ranging from 330 baht to 370 baht, a move criticized by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin as insufficient. The ruling Pheu Thai party had campaigned on a pledge to raise the minimum wage to 600 baht by 2027.

92.
93.
94.
95.
In 2022, the previous government implemented a 5.02% hike in the minimum wage.

132.
An expatriate Briton residing in Thailand, whose UK state pension remains “frozen,” revealed that he has ceased visiting a doctor for his health issues in order to save money.

133.
134.
135.
136.
Anthony Peters, 79, previously operated a family business in West Sussex before retiring and relocating to Thailand with his wife May in 2019. They settled in the central province of Lopburi, known for its ancient Buddhist temples and resident monkeys.

137.
138.
139.
140.
Upon reaching the age of 70 and beginning to claim his state pension, it was fixed at £614 monthly. Combined with his private pension, the couple’s income stands at just under £1,000 per month. Initially, this sufficed for a comfortable lifestyle in Thailand, where daily expenses are generally lower compared to the UK. However, Peters now finds himself grappling with diminishing spending power due to inflation and rising living costs, necessitating sacrifices to make ends meet.

141.
142.
143.
144.
“I’ve had to compromise on what I would like to do, and I just make sure that all our bills are paid,” he explained. “Day-to-day, we live quite a modest lifestyle.”

145.
146.
147.
148.
Without medical insurance, seeking medical attention and obtaining prescription medications for his high blood pressure, liver, and kidney issues would cost approximately £200 per visit. Peters revealed that he had been regularly attending a government hospital until about a year ago when he could no longer afford the appointments. Consequently, he resorts to self-medicating and cautious lifestyle choices to manage his health conditions.

149.
150.
151.
152.
“These are the sorts of choices you have to make due to this measly policy, I mean, it’s undemocratic,” Peters lamented, referring to the frozen UK state pension for expatriates.

153.
154.
155.
156.
He is among the roughly half a million British citizens living abroad who do not benefit from annual state pension increases, unlike those residing in the UK, who receive adjustments based on the triple lock mechanism.

157.
158.
159.
160.
Campaigners have long advocated for a policy change, denouncing the current system as unjust.

161.
162.
163.
164.
Peters believes that the additional funds he’s missing out on could significantly enhance his quality of life. “It would give me a fair amount of extra spending money, and I would be able to afford to do more things like going out or going to the occasional concert,” he remarked, expressing regret for not fulfilling promises made to his wife years ago.

165.
166.
167.
168.
Comparing his situation to expatriates from other European countries, Peters feels disadvantaged, as pensioners from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands receive annual pension increases.

169.
170.
171.
172.
A Department for Work and Pensions spokesperson reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring pensioners receive entitled financial support. However, they defended the policy of not uprating UK state pensions for recipients living overseas, citing its more than 70-year history and legal obligations.

173.
174.

241.
Four French nationals who went missing after venturing on a fishing trip in Thailand have been located safe and sound. The group set out from Jomtien Beach towards Koh Maravichai on May 1st, 2024.

242.
243.
244.
245.
Following the discovery of their empty boat near Koh Si Chang, a search operation was initiated. The individuals, Adrien Simon (38), Mehdi Benchoula (47), Vincent Ferrer (30), and Stefan Stauat (32), were found unharmed on Koh Maravichai the following day.

246.
247.
248.
249.
The rescue mission involved several local agencies, including the Pattaya Tourist Police and Pattaya Marine Rescue Volunteers. Subsequently, the four men were safely transported to a nearby beach in Sattahip in good health.

250.
251.
252.
253.
Mr. Simon detailed that the group had engaged in diving and fishing activities off Koh Maravichai, leaving their boat anchored. Unfortunately, the boat became untethered and drifted away during their absence. Unable to locate the vessel upon resurfacing, the men spent a night on the island until aid reached them.

290.
The circumstances of Delacote’s demise were tragic, as she was found deceased by a firearm in her villa. Law enforcement officials discovered her body near the swimming pool with apparent gunshot wounds on her left temple and wrist.

291.
292.
293.
294.
An automatic firearm, bullet shell, glass of vodka, sunglasses, and cigarettes were discovered near the body, alongside signs of a gunshot in the villa’s door. It was a pool maintenance worker who stumbled upon the scene and alerted the authorities upon discovering Delacote’s lifeless body and alarming pool of blood.

295.
296.
297.
298.
Before her passing, Delacote had transferred a sum of 500,000 baht to Nutwalai for her funeral expenses, indicating a thoughtful gesture towards her loyal maid. While Nutwalai suspected that her employer had taken her own life due to the messages she had sent prior to the incident, including her intention to leave her assets to the maid, she mentioned that Delacote had not mentioned anything about suicide despite revealing her battle with cancer.

299.

301.
302.
The firearm found at the scene was acquired by Delacote following a burglary at the villa, as per Nutwalai’s account. A funeral service for Catherine Delacote is scheduled to take place at Wat Bo Pud in Samui district at a later date, as communicated by Nutwalai to the press.

325.
Golden Boy Promotions issued a resolute statement on Thursday, standing by boxer Ryan Garcia in the wake of reports alleging that he tested positive for a banned substance before his recent victory over Devin Haney.

326.
327.
328.
329.
In their statement, Golden Boy Promotions expressed unwavering support for Garcia, citing his repeated denials of knowingly using any banned substances. They pledged to collaborate with Garcia’s team to investigate the matter thoroughly before taking further action.

330.
331.
332.
333.
The reported positive test, revealed by ESPN and attributed to the performance-enhancing substance Ostarine, allegedly occurred on the eve of Garcia’s bout with Haney on April 20. Ostarine, banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, can enhance muscle growth and is strictly prohibited in sports.

334.
335.
336.
337.
VADA, responsible for overseeing drug testing in boxing and mixed martial arts, has yet to comment on the matter. The results of the test were only disclosed after the fight took place.

338.
339.
340.
341.
Despite the doping allegations, Garcia delivered a dominant performance against Haney, securing a majority decision victory. However, Garcia was unable to claim the WBC super lightweight title due to missing the weight limit.

342.
343.
344.
345.
In response to the allegations, Garcia vehemently denied any wrongdoing in a video statement, asserting that he has never used steroids and expressing confusion over the situation.

346.
347.
348.
349.
The outcome of Garcia’s victory hangs in the balance pending confirmation of the positive drug test. Devin Haney, Garcia’s opponent, took to social media to express his disappointment and call for accountability, emphasizing the importance of fair competition in boxing.

350.
351.
352.
353.
As the investigation unfolds, the boxing world awaits further developments, with Garcia’s future in the sport potentially at stake.

380.
In a pivotal clash at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea displayed their superiority over Tottenham Hotspur with a commanding performance, particularly excelling in their set-piece execution.

381.
382.
383.
384.
Ange Postecoglou, despite facing questions about Tottenham’s defensive frailties, remained confident in his team’s ability to rectify their shortcomings. However, as the match unfolded, it became increasingly evident that Chelsea would exploit any defensive vulnerabilities they encountered.

385.
386.
387.
388.
From the opening whistle, Chelsea asserted their dominance, applying relentless pressure on Tottenham’s backline. The first half saw Tottenham struggle to cope with Chelsea’s intensity, with Postecoglou visibly frustrated on the sidelines.

389.
390.
391.
392.
Chelsea’s breakthrough came in the 24th minute, courtesy of a well-worked set-piece routine. Trevoh Chalobah capitalized on a pinpoint delivery from Conor Gallagher, heading home to give Chelsea the lead. It was a familiar sight for Tottenham, who have struggled to defend set-pieces throughout the season.

393.
394.
395.
396.
Despite Tottenham’s efforts to regroup, Chelsea continued to assert their authority. Cole Palmer’s free-kick in the 72nd minute rattled the crossbar, with Nicolas Jackson quick to react and nod home the rebound, extending Chelsea’s lead and effectively sealing the victory.

397.
398.
399.
400.
Mauricio Pochettino, celebrating his 400th game as a manager in English football, was left frustrated by Tottenham’s lackluster performance. Despite their early-season promise, Tottenham’s campaign has faltered in recent weeks, with this defeat compounding their woes.

401.
402.
403.
404.
Chelsea’s dominance was epitomized by Gallagher’s tireless work rate and creativity, as well as their resolute defending. Tottenham, on the other hand, struggled to assert themselves, with their attacking forays largely nullified by Chelsea’s organized backline.

405.
406.
407.
408.
As the final whistle blew, Chelsea emerged victorious, reaffirming their credentials in the race for European qualification. For Tottenham, the defeat serves as a stark reminder of the challenges they face in salvaging their season.

409.
410.
411.
412.
With crucial fixtures on the horizon, both teams will need to regroup and refocus as they aim to achieve their respective objectives in the Premier League.

497.

A deputy director at a school was apprehended while accepting “tea money” from parents in exchange for enrolling their children mid-term, according to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).

498.
499.
500.
501.
The arrest followed a complaint received by the NACC from a parent, alleging that the deputy director of a school affiliated with Khon Kaen Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 in Muang district demanded an under-the-table payment of 20,000 baht for their child’s admission to the school.

502.
503.
504.
505.
The parents stated that due to their child’s ability to read and write, the price was reduced by half to 10,000 baht. The payment, they claimed, had to be in cash, and they were not informed of its purpose or usage.

506.
507.
508.
509.
In response, the NACC devised a plan to apprehend the school official using marked banknotes. Immediately after the transaction was completed, police and the NACC approached the suspect and charged him with wrongfully demanding, accepting, or agreeing to accept a bribe under Section 149 of the Criminal Code, and wrongfully exercising duties as a state official under Section 157.

510.
511.
512.
513.
Further investigation revealed information on his computer indicating involvement in other bribery cases with parents. Subsequently, the deputy school director was taken to Muang police station for legal proceedings.

514.
515.
516.
517.
Prateep Juthasorn, deputy secretary-general of NACC Region 4, stated that police would gather evidence within 30 days before submitting a summary to the NACC.

518.
519.
520.
521.
Initial findings indicated that about 70 students had been admitted mid-term to the school this academic year, with 60 students found to have paid “tea money.”

522.
523.
524.
525.
Mr. Prateep noted that most victims were coerced into retracting their statements, adding that the school has connections to a politician.
