20.
Should the Rams have prioritized wide receiver and linebacker more in the draft?

The NFL Draft is over and the Los Angeles Rams have their class of 10 rookies. On the surface it looks like general manager Les Snead may have gotten another draft right after an extraordinary class last season.

  21.
Snead has gotten some fair criticism for his drafting in the past. However, it’s also very easy to criticize after the fact.

  22.
Throughout draft weekend, I conducted a “shadow draft,” meaning that any time the Rams were on the clock to select a player, so was I. I figured this would be a fun exercise just to see the different paths of “my” draft class and the Rams’ real-life draft class.

  23.
This was my fifth year doing the exercise. You can see those results here.

  24.
The idea here is very much not that I would do a better job drafting than the Snead and the Rams. This is simply a fun exercise in what in a process that requires a lot of luck. That’s especially the case when the Rams haven’t had a first-round pick.

  25.
Below are the rules:

  26.
1. Past Shadow Draft results do not carry over. Every year is a new year and I draft with the current Rams roster and needs in mind.

  27.
2. I follow along with whatever real-life trades Snead and the Rams made. So even though I might have wanted to trade up to 39 or wanted to trade up from 19, I was along for the ride.

  28.
3. I make my picks in real time when the Rams are on the clock and make my pick before the Rams’ selection was announced. Revisionist history is lame.

  29.
1st Round (19th Overall) - CB Terrion Arnold, Alabama

  30.
This was my fifth time doing a shadow draft and the fourth time my first pick has been a cornerback for the Rams. Last year I took Cam Smith and the year before I selected Zyon McCollum. This was a tough pick and Jared Verse is a player that was considered. At the end of the day, Arnold was the top defensive player on my board and after talking with him at the NFL Combine, I was sold. While the Rams did sign Tre White and Darious Williams in free agency, White has an injury history and Arnold can play on the outside or as the STAR.

  31.
Where They Went: 24th overall, Detroit Lions

  32.
Actual Rams Pick: EDGE Jared Verse, Florida State

  33.
2nd Round (39th Overall) - DL Michael Hall, Ohio State

  34.
After the early run on defensive tackles in the second round, the Rams traded up. We both had the same idea and also grabbed a defensive tackle. However, the Rams took Braden Fiske while I selected Michael Hall. Hall would have given the Rams a lot of versatility along their defensive line as a player would could line up inside at the 1T or as far out as the 5T. Hall has a high ceiling, but would need some coaching at the next level.

  35.
Where They Went: 54th overall, Cleveland Browns

  36.
Actual Rams Pick: DT Braden Fiske, Florida State

  37.
3rd Round (83rd Overall) - WR Javon Baker, UCF

  38.
When the Rams were on the clock at 83, I was almost certain that they were going to go wide receiver. Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are the only receivers currently under contract heading into next season. Baker would have been able to slide in as the ‘x’ receiver along with Demarcus Robinson and is a player I saw as a perfect fit for the Rams offense.

  39.
Where They Went: 110th Overall, New England Patriots

  40.
Actual Rams Pick: RB Blake Corum, Michigan

  41.
3rd Round (99th Overall) - LB Cedric Gray, UNC

  42.
The Philadelphia Eagles sniped my pick Payton Wilson at 98, but I likely would have been better taking Wilson at 83 and waiting on Baker. With Wilson off the board, I settle for my third linebacker in the class in Cedric Gray. Gray should be able to provide a good coverage option next to Ernest Jones and be the next man up if the Rams are unable to get an extension done there in the near future.

  43.
Where They Went: 106th Overall, Tennessee Titans

  44.
Actual Rams Pick: S Kamren Kinchens, Miami

  45.
5th Round (154th Overall) - Mahomed Kamara, Colorado State

  46.
Waiting until he fifth round may have been a long wait for an edge rusher. However, I am happy with the player that I ended up with. Kamara has a relentless motor and had 13 sacks last season for the Rams of the Mountain West. This is a player that can rotate year one with Michael Hoecht and potentially turn into a solid starter.

  47.
Where They Went: 158th Overall, Miami Dolphins

  48.
Actual Rams Pick: EDGE Brennan Jackson, Washington State

  49.
6th Round (196th Overall) - RB Dylan Laube, New Hampshire

  50.
When the Rams drafted a running back, this is the type of player I figured they would take. It’s clear this is also a type of player that they wanted when they signed Boston Scott. Laube provides a change of pace and can do a little bit of everything. Seeing him in McVay’s offense would have been a lot of fun, not to mention the value that he provides on special teams as a returner.

  51.
Where They Went: 208th Overall, Las Vegas Raiders

  52.
Actual Rams Pick: DT Tyler Davis, Clemson

  53.
6th Round (209th Overall) - iOL Christian Mahogany, Boston College

  54.
It came out after the draft that Mahogany had some medical concerns that were scaring teams during the draft. However, at 209, this was a value that was too good to pass up. He provides depth at both guard spots. Mahogany doesn’t have any center experience, but could likely play their in a pinch if needed.

  55.
Where They Went: 210th Overall, Detroit Lions

  56.
Actual Rams Pick: K Joshua Karty, Stanford

  57.
6th Round (213th Overall) - CB Dwight McGlothern, Arkansas

  58.
To be clear, this is where I was going to take a kicker and had the Rams not taken Karty at 213, a kicker worth drafting may have been here. My goal was to take Karty or Cam Little at this spot. However, that’s the name of the game with the shadow draft. Instead, I grabbed some cornerback depth in Dwight McGlothern. The Rams need to rebuild their secondary and McGlothern is a step in replacing some of the depth.

  59.
Where They Went: UDFA

  60.
Actual Rams Pick: WR Jordan Whittington, Texas

  61.
6th Round (217th Overall) - DL Jowon Briggs, Cincinnati

  62.
At this point in the draft, the goal was simply to find some depth, especially along the defensive line. Briggs adds versatility as a player that can play up and down the line and adds a big body in the run game.

  63.
Where They Went: 243rd overall, Cleveland Browns

  64.
Actual Rams Pick: C Beaux Limmer, Arkansas

  65.
7th Round (254th Overall) - iOL Karsen Barnhart, Michigan

  66.
Barnhart was one of my favorite late-round offensive linemen in the draft process. He has the ability to play multiple positions across the offensive line with experience on both the left and right side. Barnhart would have been a fantastic replacement for Tremayne Anchrum who also gave that option of depth at multiple spots.

  67.
Where They Went: UDFA

  68.
Actual Rams Pick: KT Leveston, Kansas State

  69.
The Full Class

  70.

  71.
19 - CB Terrion Arnold

  72.
39 - DL Michael Hall

  73.
83 - WR Javon Baker

  74.
99 - LB Cedrick Gray

  75.
154 - EDGE Mohamed Kamara

  76.
196 - RB Dylan Laube

  77.
209 - iOL Christian Mohogany

  78.
213 - CB Dwight McGlothern

  79.
217 - DL Jowon Briggs

  80.
254 - iOL Karsen Barnhart

  81.

  82.
Based on where they were actually selected, McGlothern in the sixth round may have been my biggest reach. An argument could be made for Baker who went 110th whereas I took him at 83. However, Baker would have been a perfect fit in the Rams offense. Still, that value isn’t too bad. My best pick was probably Kamara at 154 who was selected four picks later at 158. While not the splash pick at EDGE, there is still a lot of upside.

  83.
An argument could have been made for EDGE at 19. However, with Terrion Arnold still on the board, the value was simply too good to pass up. That meant sacrificing on the position a little bit. Still, I like the pass rushing upside of both Hall and Kamara. Again, I missed out on kicker waiting a little bit too long and there being a run of kickers between 213 and 217.

  84.
Overall I really like what the Rams did with their draft class and actually like their haul a little more than mine. There are some philosophical things that I would have dine differently such as taking a wide receiver earlier in the draft and certainly drafting a linebacker. I also don’t think running back was a pressing need in the third round and waiting for a player like Laube who can do some of the Boston Scott stuff also made sense.

  117.

  118.
  119.
Why it was better for Rams to draft Joshua Karty than to sign Jake Bates out of the UFL

The Rams spent a sixth-round pick to select what I believe to be the best kicker in the NFL Draft this year. They decided to go this route to fill their gaping hole at the kicker position, a position that gave them plenty of trouble this past year. Instead, some fans wonder if the Rams should have just signed Jake Bates from the UFL. Should they have?

  120.
My answer is no. While Jake Bates is the talk of the UFL right now due to his enormous leg and consistency, it’s still important to remember the man had never kicked in a game before. While that may not matter to some, it still does matter in terms of being able to find a one-off one-kick wonder and find the next Matt Gay, Greg Zuerlein or Jeff Wilkins for your team. The Rams need their next kicker to be on the level of the one they let get away and the hope is Karty is just that.

  121.
What we often times forget is that you can find talent anywhere, you can find kickers anywhere but the Rams aren’t looking for a one year option, they clearly want a long term fit and Karty is going to be signed to a four-year deal as part of his draft selection. Bates could end up being special but there is a chance he ends up like the last kicker who held the record for longest kick made in the UFL, Donny Hageman. Hageman hit a 59 yarder in 2023 and went unclaimed in the 2024 UFL dispersal draft. That’s not to say Bates will follow suit because he absolutely will be back in the NFL again but for how long?

  122.
Another important tidbit here is that the Rams cannot just sign Jake Bates right now as he he’s under contract by the Michigan Panthers. If the Rams wanted to sign Bates, they would have had to wait until after the UFL season which comes after the draft. It was a risk there for the Rams, it’s not to say they wouldn’t have done it but with Karty you know he’s yours and you have filled the spot for the next four years at least if he’s anything like he was in college.

  123.
The Rams could absolutely try to bring Bates in for competition against Karty this off-season once he is available, but to assume the Rams made a mistake filling a need and not waiting for a month or two for a kicker in the UFL would be a mistake.

  124.
Karty went 72 of 73 from extra points in three years as the starting kicker for Stanford. He missed just one extra point. The Rams had the second lowest percentage of extra points made in the NFL last year which is a big deal. Karty also showed the ability to improve every year going from 10/15 in 2021 from field goal range, to 18/18 the following year and 23/27 the year after that with a career high 90 points scored. The Rams had a sub 75 percent kick percentage last year which was third to last in the league. Karty should help with that immediately with his career 85 percent and over 90 percent of the last two years.

  125.
Currently Bates isn’t available as it stands, has a 77.8 percent kick accuracy and isn’t a need. Karty does everything you want, has more experience and is consistent with a leg of over 60. It’s a reminder that not only Jake Bates as a big leg. What the Rams are getting with Karty is someone who locks in three points. As previously stated, Karty is consistent and is automatic just about in extra point opportunities. That’s the important distinction that the Rams need.

  126.
Karty is exactly what a powerful offense needs should they ever get stalled. He is going to hit every extra point and everything inside of 49. Expecting someone to be perfect from 50 yards and beyond just isn’t realistic. Karty went 4 of 7 from 50 plus in 2023 and 3 for 3 in 2022. In 2021 he went 1 for 5. Finding someone who continues to get better and finding them in the draft which makes them cost effective is the route the Rams should always go.

  127.
I know if you are into the UFL it may be hard to watch Bates drill it 64 yards for a win but the reality here is that the Rams made the smart move in not choosing to wait and it should pay off in a big way.

  128.

  147.
  148.
KT Leveston film study shows Rams may have a good developmental prospect

Kaitori “KT” Leveston was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round of the draft and he primarily played left tackle at Kansas State, but it is his versatility at guard that could help him win a job on the 53-man roster.

  149.
He was also a standout during workouts at the East-West Shrine Bowl and extended that versatility with solid work at center and now he is in the NFL. Who is Leveston and what does his future look like after we dive into some film?

  150.
An older prospect who turns 25 in October, he was a regular member on Big-12 All-Academic teams, graduated before his final year, and is working towards his Masters degree. Leveston began as a redshirt back in 2018 and went on to play in 50 college games and 2200+ snaps. He earned 32 starts, with 27 straight over his final two seasons. For his career, he allowed 36 hurries, seven hits, and eight sacks of his quarterback. He played clean, committing only one penalty over his final 1800+ snaps.

  152.

  153.
K-State used jet sweeps with receivers (and with Giddens & Avery Johnson split out) 7 times in the 1st 6 games, but 10 times in the last 2. Jadon Jackson found the most success against Houston, here getting a nice gain out of a tight doubles formation with Sinnott split out. 8/10 pic.twitter.com/NuBAF2FGKs
— ksu_FAN (@ksu_FAN) November 3, 2023

  158.
Athletic testing

  159.
I use a chart by Gil Brandt when comparing prospect’s athletic testing. It’s a few years old now, but gives a standardized list of target numbers to look for. Leveston is not considered a plus athlete, but does run very close to hitting target athletic parameters for his position and size. I would rate his athleticism adequate, certainly on par with all members of the Rams current starting five.

  160.
Brandt’s target number are in bold.

  161.
Leveston earned an invitation to test and workout at the 2024 NFL Combine. He measured in at 6’ 3 7/8” 326 lb., with 9 7/8” hands, 34 3/8” arms, and 82 1/4” wingspan. He timed 5.38/5.30 in the forty, with a 1.85/1.85 split. In the explosion and lower/upper body strength drills he taped a 27.5”/30” vertical, 9’/8’ 6” broad, and 25/24 reps on the bench. For agility, change of direction, and balance, he logged a 7.90/7.85 3cone and 4.89/4.65 shuttle.

  162.
What does the film show?

  163.
Squared-off monolithic build. Coaches say Leveston has worked hard to re-shape his body over his college years and he could still use work in that area. He’s a downhill player with a rough-and-tumble style of play. He hustles downfield and plays hard to the whistle. Has good length and strong hands, just needs to take better advantage of them.

  164.
His strength is run blocking. He shows the striking power and push to crumble defenders on down and drive blocks, Can get better in this area with work on consistently getting his pad level lower to complement a natural low center of gravity. Leveston has fairly nifty feet, works hard to make reach blocks, and really clamps on to seal. Good strength to torque defenders out of the action. He pulls adequately, but much better if he doesn’t have to go along way laterally, and kicks out well, very sticky. Although he looks smooth working off double teams and up to the next level, his change of direction (or lack) make linear strikes his best moves.

  165.
In pass protection, it’s a more of a mixed bag. When Leveston strikes quickly and clamps on, he easily controls rushers, but too often, he’s not aggressive with his punch and hits high and outside. He just doesn’t have the lateral agility or reaction time to mirror speed and/or reaction time to recover from outside speed or quick inside counters if beaten at the get-go or the defender slides by. He’s aware on twists/loops, but again, he struggles if he has to go too far.

  166.
He sets a wide base and has a stellar anchor. Leveston needs to trust his base, anchor, and footwork, when he reaches and gets out of balance, he is limiting his best attributes, power and strength. In the college game, his girth and wingspan were enough to force speed to go the long way around, but pro rushers will have the bend to navigate around his edge.

  167.

  168.

  169.
Another version of the same scheme, this time near the goal line with a TE and H to the strong side. Leveston and Beebe again get good blocks outside and Ward is able to pick up just enough to get the first down at the 1 yard line. 3/ pic.twitter.com/VvohcaTtFO
— ksu_FAN (@ksu_FAN) November 3, 2023

  173.

  174.
Is there a pathway up the depth chart?

  175.
To snare the OL#6 role as swing guard/tackle and a chance to be a valuable contributor, Leveston would have to take a big jump, over incumbent Joseph Noteboom and large cast of vastly different competitors. Projecting the competition could be construed as bad news for Rams fan, but good for Leveston.

  176.
Noteboom, Warren McClendon, Zachary Thomas, AJ Arcuri, and Logan Bruss all return as guard/tackle candidates, while Blake Larson joins as a UDFA. On the interior, Mike McAllister, rookies Beaux Limmer and Justin Dedich bring center/guard versatility and Grant Miller plugs in at guard. After Noteboom, the 10 remaining candidates have very little NFL experience with 138 pro snaps amongst them.

  177.
Final analysis

  178.
So, what should we make of KT Leveston?

  179.
He’s a very good fit into the Rams run scheme, a downhill mauler with a wide body. His athleticism, although not stellar, is certainly on par with L.A.’s current starting group and he does have fairly nifty feet. Moving him to a role inside at guard would likely go a long way to alleviate some of his trials and tribulations in space.

  180.
Leveston’s college coaches lauded his year-to-year growth in maturity and work ethic, incrementally reshaping his body, improving his technique, and becoming a team leader. He has a strong base skillset, good film vs. top competition and had a productive college career, just needs to work on leverage/pad level, technique polish, and transitioning to pro speed. If Leveston continues to craft his game and transitions to the pro game, he has a good shot to win the first lineman off the bench role as the swing guard/tackle. That said, it may be more realistic to project hid ascension for 2025.

But when the Raiders surprised everyone by drafting Bowers instead, one pick before the Saints went on the clock, those trade talks were scuttled.

  207.
Schrager said: “The player they had their eyes on if he slipped a little bit was Brock Bowers. So the Rams really fell in love with Brock Bowers, the Georgia tight end, and as he’s plummeting down boards and the quarterbacks are going, there were phone calls made and there was some excitement in that L.A. building that they might be able to get Brock Bowers and add him to that offense.”

  208.
Of course, everyone came out of these feeling happy: New Orleans got Fuaga, the Rams got Florida State pass rusher Jared Verse, and the Raiders, of course, got to pair Bowers with tight end Michael Mayer (last year’s 35th overall pick). Still, let’s use the benefit of hindsight to see how this may have played out differently.”

  222.
PFF gave me an F for this pick, which is hilarious because Josh Conerly is a stud. He mans the left tackle spot for the Ducks and allowed just one sack in 2024. 223.
Conerly has some room to grow fundamentally, but the sky is the limit. Both Alaric Jackson and Joe Noteboom are free agents after the 2024 season, leaving the left tackle spot wide open.

  238.
“Let’s equate draft picks to the ambiguous digital currency known as Bitcoin. To some, Bitcoins hold tremendous value. As of 7:45 am PT on May 4, 2024, the relative value of 1.0 bitcoin is translated into $63,667.97. But you cannot just walk into a bank and convert bitcoins into US currency. You must find a site that either: accepts Bitcoin for purchasing or translates Bitcoin into currency. It’s much easier to invest in bitcoin than it is to divest from it. To others, Bitcoins hold no value.

  239.
Draft picks are the same way. Picks have no intrinsic value by themselves. The value that they possess lies in what those picks can acquire for the team. In the case of the 39th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the value of that pick was the opportunity to select DT Braden Fiske and add him to the LA Rams roster.”

  269.
Executive Director of the Senior Bowl, Jim Nagy, turned to X (formerly known as Twitter) to opine on each member of LA’s draft class that attended the 2024 game and practice week. Nagy is a former NFL scout and now coordinates with teams to put prospects on one of the most significant pre-draft stages. The Rams clearly value insights from the Senior Bowl, as they gained insight into 60% of the players they selected this year from the event. In 2023 they also drafted Steve Avila, Byron Young, and Puka Nacua who were participants.

  278.
DT Braden Fiske (Round 2, Pick 39)

  279.
Top P5 riser in entire ‘24 class. Disruptive penetrator with best get-off quicks & snap anticipation in DL class. High-end athlete with enough position flex to start right away. Force multiplier will raise competitive bar for rest of roster.

  280.
DS Kam Kinchens (Round 3, Pick 99)

  281.
Young early-out junior with playmaking ability in deep part of field. Ball skills are top asset (11 INT past two years). Good functional range belies suspect 40 time. Miami staff raved about toughness & overall makeup. Should seriously push for starting role as rookie.

  282.
OLB Brennan Jackson (Round 5, Pick 154)

  283.
Fun-to-watch high motor player adds rotational pass rush help & immediate core ST value. Ideal frame & fit for 3-4 OLB. Wish he didn’t get hurt in Mobile because he would’ve opened some eyes. Like Fiske, this dude never stops!

  284.
DT Tyler Davis (Round 6, Pick 196)

  285.
Good value pick as NFL-ready backup 3-tech behind Kobie Turner. Quick & strong-handed run-downs plugger. Plays bigger than measurables suggest. 5-year starter & team captain at Clemson fits Rams character profile.

  286.
PK Joshua Karty (Round 6, Pick 208)

  287.
Big-legged kicker that many specialist gurus we consult with thought was one of best PK prospects in past 5-10 years. Thought he might go 4th/5th round. Has leg talent & mental wiring to be long-term answer.

  288.
C/G Beaux Limmer (Round 6, Pick 217)

  289.
One of best value picks of draft. Inside swing depth upgrade should be fourth IOL behind Avila, Jackson, & Dotson. Mature, no nonsense dude with 41 college starts. Strong Senior Bowl week & elite Combine numbers (36.5 VJ, 39 bench reps). Head-scratcher he lasted til 6th.

  290.

  291.
Nagy’s thoughts on Kinchens seems to align with the Rams’ historical approach to 40-yard dash times that come in below standards set for each position. LA has been especially willing to gamble on the safety position, like they did with Jordan Fuller in 2020, because they feel football acumen and play recognition outweighs the ability to run fast in a straight line.

  292.
The executive director also noted that Karty, who could bring stability to the kicking position for LA who have been searching for such in life after Matt Gay, could be one of the best kicker prospects in the “past 5-10 years”. If that’s truly the case, the Rams got quite the bargain on Karty, especially considering the NFC West division rival San Francisco 49ers took Michigan’s Jake Moody in the third round of the 2023 draft. Getting Karty in the sixth could be great value for Los Angeles.

  293.
Another player that received considerable praise from Nagy was interior offensive lineman Beaux Limmer, who Nagy called “one of the best value picks of the draft”. While the Rams have invested heavily in the guard and center positions between the draft and free agency the last couple of seasons, Limmer should give the team insurance in case injury strikes and either Steve Avila, Jonah Jackson, or Kevin Dotson miss much time. Eventually, Limmer could have a chance to take over in two seasons or so after Jackson and Dotson’s free agent contracts run their course.

  312.

  313.
  314.
LA filled several needs in the 2024 NFL Draft and had a first-rounder for the first time since 2016

The Los Angeles Rams put together a second consecutive stellar effort in the 2024 NFL Draft. LA took FSU defender Jared Verse with the 19th overall pick and general manager Les Snead continued going to work from there. Blake Corum, Braden Fiske and Kamren Kinchens among others appear to be solid depth pieces for Sean McVay and company to work with.

  315.
Fans overwhelmingly approved of the prospects Snead was able to land and 98% of them believe the Rams were a winner in last month’s draft.

  316.

  317.
  318.

  319.
The fanbase has every reason to believe in the work Snead put in this draft. LA figures to be a massive player in the NFC playoff picture next season and needs all the reinforcements necessary to make a deep postseason run. Verse and Fiske in particular will be essential pieces as the Rams defense attempts to fill the massive hole left by future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald.

  320.
Corum should be a crucial backup alongside All-Pro Kyren Williams. The Michigan product and reigning national champion adds more punch to an already dangerous running game. Anything the Rams can do to take the pressure off Matthew Stafford is always an added bonus.

  321.
Kamren Kinchens, the former Miami standout, is a promising addition to a secondary that already boosts incoming free agents Kamren Curl and Tre’Davious White. Secondary help was also welcome. While the Kinchens selection doesn’t solve every issue, it’s a great start.

  322.
Rams fans have every reason to feel excitement over the 2024 NFL Draft results. If Snead hit another home run with this draft class, the fanbase might be celebrating even more this February. Fingers crossed everyone!

  342.
  343.
The NFL will release the 2024 schedule sometime in May. Will LA play on Thanksgiving for the first time in 48 years?

Fans of the L.A. Rams will soon know the opponent order with the 2024 NFL schedule release anticipated to happen sometime this month. The spectacle that follows the schedule release is the league’s way of helping ease the long slog that is the offseason.

  344.
Last year, the 2023 schedule was released on May 11 and the holiday games on Black Friday and Christmas were dropped well ahead of the release date. It’s reasonable to expect the schedule will be released late this upcoming week or early the following week.

  345.
Excitement is evident in Hollywood as the Rams seek to build upon their surprise success last season. Here are three predictions I have for LA’s upcoming slate:

  346.
LA will kick off the 2024 season against the Bears

  347.
Matthew Stafford began his Rams career with a bang in a 34-14 win over the Bears on Sunday Night Football. Why not throw it back to kick off the 2024 season?

  348.
This matchup might be a tad unlikely to start the year and too bad Aaron Donald isn’t around to welcome Caleb Williams to the NFL. Either way, Williams has a solid trio to throw too and Chicago shouldn’t be a pushover as they were three seasons ago.

  349.
Da Bears would be a fun test for the Rams to start with. Perhaps LA could give Chicago an early rude awakening with the Bears being projected as a dark horse postseason contender.

  350.
Rams will play at least five primetime games in 2024

  351.
Very few people were high on the Rams entering last season while the team was coming off a 5-12 campaign. That would explain why LA played only two primetime games in 2023 against the Bengals (Week 3) and Saints (Week 16).

  352.
I expect that to change significantly considering Los Angeles has the potential of being one of the top teams in the NFC. With games against divisional opponents and teams like the Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Packers and Bears on the docket, any of those squads would be worthy primetime matchups for LA.

  353.
If you noticed I omitted one of the best teams the Rams will face in ‘24, there’s a reason for that...

  354.
LA will head to Detroit on Thanksgiving

  355.
The Rams have not played a Thanksgiving day game since 1975 against Detroit. LA’s drought ends this season with another thriller expected between these NFC contenders.

  356.
I listed this game as one of the Rams’ best revenge games on the 2024 schedule as there are countless storylines in play here. Most importantly, LA will be looking for revenge after being on the losing end of the Lions’ first playoff win since 1991.

  357.
Related: What are the best revenge games on the Rams’ 2024 schedule?

  358.
Ford Field will be a rocking place on Thanksgiving that’s for sure. Matthew Stafford vs Jared Goff: Part III should be a treat for football fans everyone.

  379.
The Athletic’s Mike Sando shared what NFL executives had to say about the Rams trade for Braden Fiske

One of the more controversial moves of the NFL Draft last week seems to be what the Los Angeles Rams traded away to move up and get Florida State defensive tackle Braden Fiske. In the trade, the Rams gave up a 2025 2nd round pick to move up 13 spots with the Carolina Panthers to acquire Fiske.

  380.

  381.

  382.
The Rams spent more on Braden Fiske than they did on Jared Verse, according to the ESPN, OTC, PFF, Stuart and Baldwin charts*.

*including a 10% discount on the future second, assumed to be pick 48
— Seth Walder (@SethWalder) May 3, 2024

Executives specifically brought up the move that the Rams made to go up and get Fiske. Said one executive,

  388.

“We liked Fiske, but what they gave up, I mean, can you find another trade in the second round that gave up as much as they gave up, over the last 10 years? I don’t even know if they are weighing the trade calculations.”

  389.
According to Sando, “Execs saw that as behavior consistent with having a strong head coach. They also cited reports suggesting the Rams explored trading into the top 10 for tight end Brock Bowers (or possibly Byron Murphy II).”

  390.
The move to go up and get Fiske was a bold one. It was the most expensive Day 2 overpay of the last six drafts. With that said, he was very clearly a player that the Rams liked and felt would be a good addition to their defensive rotation. Until Fiske gets the field, there will be questions on whether or not the move up was worth it.

  391.
As Bill Barnwell noted this week,

  392.

“Trading up still pays off less often than the teams that move up would hope. When a team traded up for a player, his performance over the first five years matched or surpassed the cost his team paid in draft capital just 42% of the time...Nearly 23% of the picks were total busts who produced zero value for their new teams, including 16% of the players who were acquired via trade-ups on Day 1 or Day 2 of the draft.”

  393.

  394.

  395.
In which @billbarnwell comprehensively addresses a bunch of (unfounded) arguments in favor of trading up, including "What if this player is really high on our board?" and "Our team can identify trade-up targets!"

The underlined part here is remarkable!https://t.co/bJsnKaWIzQ pic.twitter.com/P28gPra5NV
— Computer Cowboy (@benbbaldwin) May 1, 2024
  396.

  397.
  398.
  399.

  400.
Whether or not the trade up was worth it will only be determined by how Fiske performs on the field. The Detroit Lions traded away a 2025 third round for a project offensive tackle from British Columbia with a rugby background.
