The event commenced with a cordial welcome extended to the external peer evaluator, Mr. Aravind S, Asst. Professor, Vikas College of Physiotherapy, Mangalore, along with internal evaluators Mr. Nityal and Mr. Eswar, Asst. Professors, NIPT.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Mr. Rakesh Krishna Kovela, Associate Professor, provided insights into the theme of NIPT-SISSA and shed light on past SISSA presentations. Postgraduates Ms. Vahini, Ms. Meegha and Ms. Deeksha, pursuing Orthopaedics and Neurophysiotherapy specialties in MPT, presented their cases . Each case was evaluated objectively by the assessors and the students were graded based on their performance. A private screening at Bharath Cinemas, it was open to the students and staff of Nitte University.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is the fourth film being directed by Prithvi and premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, South Korea, two years ago.
A sensitively told tale of an incident involving two teenagers and its repercussions, in typical Konnanur style, he leaves it to the viewer to analyse, understand the pressures of each character and why he/she does what they do. A software engineer turned filmmaker, Prithvi has on several occasions visited NICO and interacted with students and faculty.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">With his experience in scripting, screenplay writing and filmmaking, Prithvi shared with students, the journey of a story turning into a script and then into screenplay. Touching upon topics like script vs screenplay, linear, non-linear and multilinear narratives and the importance of subplots, Prithvi gave examples from his own films, making it easy for students to understand.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The second day saw the screening of his Kannada film “Pinki Elli?” a social thriller touching upon the horrifying topic of child trafficking and using babies as props for begging. Winner of two awards in the New York Indian Film Festival, Pinki Elli has received critical acclaim for presenting a very real problem in a matter-of-fact manner, where every character is doing whatever he or she is, for reasons of their own, the real culprit being rapid urbanization and that very real divide between the haves and have nots. Sindhu Janardhan, Senior Creative Director, Interactive Avenues, Bangalore was the resource person. Interactive Avenues, one of India’s largest digital marketing agencies, holds the distinction of being awarded Digital Agency of the Year, 11 times, apart from bagging over 300 awards in the last three years.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">A Copywriter turned Creative Head, Sindhu has worked with major brands like Amazon, Honda, ITC, Kelloggs, Johnson &amp; Johnson, Spotify to name but a few, picking up several awards along the way. She was also shortlisted by Campaign Asia for the “Women Leading Change” award.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The workshop began with the resource person introducing students to some of the brands she has worked with, the pain points that the brands had, the solutions the agency came up with after meticulous research and the final creatives.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Dividing the students into groups, she gave each group a brand to work with, pushing students to come up with ideas, make a quick study of the competitors of the brand and offer solutions. The event started with a beautiful invocation by Ms. Gana Pilinja, alumna and welcome address by Ms. Aishwarya Nair, Asst. Professor. The presentation of the Annual Report 2023-24, was done by Prof. Dr. Dhanesh Kumar K U, Principal, wherein over 56 collegiate activities, along with institutional, faculty and student achievements were proudly displayed to the audience.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The Chief Guest, Nadoja Dr. Wooday P Krishna, President KGSN Bengaluru spoke about the need for discipline, order and uniformity in education. He appreciated the organising team for the meticulously executed event and wished all the students a great career. Presiding over the function, Honourable Chancellor, Shri N Vinaya Hegde, stressed the importance of physiotherapy in health and the benefits of exercise on mind and body alike.
Prof. Dr. Tarpan H Shah, an esteemed alumnus from the 2007 batch of NIPT and currently an Associate Professor at Shrimad Rajchandra College of Physiotherapy, UKA Tarsadia University, Surat, Gujarat was invited as the Guest of Honour. He spoke about the journey of NIPT through the ages and how it has robustly stayed abreast with all the recent advances and equipment in the field of physiotherapy at international levels.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">A noteworthy segment of the Annual Day was the felicitation of the non-teaching faculty, Mrs. Kalavathi Naik, Librarian; Mrs. Jyothi N, Computer Lab Assistant and Mrs. Veena U Rao, Library Assistant who had served the organisation for 25 years . Their contribution was applauded and appreciated. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Tarpan H Shah, was also felicitated for his contributions to the Institute as an alumnus as well as for his professional prowess in the field of Physiotherapy. The citations for the non-teaching faculty and alumni felicitations were announced by Prof. (Dr.) Purusotham Chippala and Rakesh Krishna Kovela, Assoc. Professor, respectively. The academic toppers, sports winners and the social service volunteers were awarded for their merit, excellence and humanitarian service. The batch winning the overall champions of the year was declared. Attended by faculty members and second-year postgraduates, the program served as a platform for knowledge dissemination and collaborative engagement.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">On the second day, Dr. Shah explained and demonstrated over 25 techniques in the field of Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy linking their impact on the physiological process and disease progression. Attracting tourists from all over the world, Majuli is an island in the Brahmaputra and the first island to be declared a district in India. Majuli also holds the distinction of being the largest river island in the world.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In the course of his talk, Deekshith spoke of the NGO for whom he was working, the Ayang Trust, set up in 2017 by the trio of Bipin, Aswathy and Dharamjeet, which works in the areas of education, livelihood and community development. Helping economically empower the Missing Tribe, Ayang Trust skills and trains the women weavers and farmers of Majuli.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">A district prone to floods and natural calamities, building community resilience is one of the major objectives of the Trust and towards this end, work is on in building flood resistant infrastructure and educating communities in hygiene and sanitation.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As part of the documentation and communication team, he was responsible in ensuring that the good work being done by the Trust was neatly and crisply documented, to be shared with funding agencies and donors. The work involved both communicating and understanding the challenges of the local communities and also in sharing their stories with the outside world.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There is a huge demand for students of media and communication in the social sector which is quickly growing into a huge placement option. He also spoke of the demand for media professionals in documenting and sharing the CSR activities of corporates. All this while, we were only aware of the public and private sectors, but now there is a third and equally important sector in India and that is the social sector, he said.
