Coming to the Maldives and being an avid world traveller i knew it would be special but nothing would prepare me for Centara Grand. from the moment the seaplane touched down, we where well received by the whole welcoming committee and staff, i was impressed at how they received all their guests like VIP or royalty, at Centara its all the same, maximum 5 star service to all. We were booked in for a couple of days and could not believe how much attention to detail was shown via planning, events, right down to favourite drinks, Spa treatments. This place is amazing i had to take a couple of weeks and a mini holiday on the gold coast in australia just to calm down from it. Their all inclusive package caters for everrryyyyttthhiiinnngg your little heart desires, the drinks keep flowing, mini bars stacked and refilled daily. x3 5 star restaurants on the island to choose from that would cause New york and London establishments to question themselves. Hands down the best buffett i ever had and i thought the one i had in budapest this summer was special. Different themes every night, an italian restaurant with better tasting italian than that i had in italy, same goes for their Thai. You can tell i'm a foodie who loves his drinks but above this and the location the Staff are shining stars and i could name a few. Their attention to detail is immaculate as they remember your name, food preferences, how you like it, when you like it, where you would like it etc. The variety of sports and activities was excellent and i particularly enjoyed the whale shark swim which are located within 30mins of Centara putting centara grand square in the middle of the action, the Maldives must be the only place in the world where when someone screams "Shark" you dive into the water to see the mystic deep blue beauties, absolutely breathtaking, a true once in a lifetime moment. You have windsurfing, banana boating, standup paddle boarding there at you disposal your only disadvantage is time time time, not enough time to do it all. Take lots of pictures because when you look back through you will feel priviledged to have spent a night with centara grand... already planning my next trip out there soonest. Especially after meeting a Colombian couple Henry and Claudia who are doing a lot of diving on their travelling trip. Unfortunately ... What could possibly go wrong after such a wonderful trip? Only traveling back of course! Coming off the ferry and walking in the heat of DAR, we find the coach office. We asked if we could book the 2pm coach ride back to Ukunda. "Oh no, I'm not sure you want to do that! Stay in DAR for the night and get early bus tomorrow morning." "Why not? We cannot afford another night in DAR." "Okay, well you won't arrive back to Ukunda until ... ... br> We make it to the Ferry Terminal and find the First Class Lounge.. what a relief. We can finally take a break and relax before our ferry. We meet a Russian travel agent and have a nice talk in the lounge before heading onto the ferry. We talk some more on the ferry and exchange contacts for that long awaited trip to Russia I've always wanted to take. We depart the ferry and what a mess. There's dozens of guys yelling at you, "taxi, I carry your bags"... ... off to the airport again. We didn't see the safari car either!! Alfred then receives a call from the girls.they've found it!! It was at the reception desk. He'd paid for dinner last night and left it sitting there. We were now 20 minutes into an hour long trip and Alfred wanted to turn back! Adams wanted to drive it to Dar Es Salaam the next day! Phone calls were hastily made with Samwel in the back shouting into his phone. He had got a friend with a taxi to pick ... ... the year, apparently things really tighten up then - even tourists can't really smoke, drink, eat or engage in heavy petting on the streets during the day. I head to a luxury hotel at midday and sponge of their wifi and toutless beach. The night market we went to last night is fortunately still open, selling excellent pizzas - mince and chopped veg wrapped in a chapati. If you enjoy staying in and cook, you will still need a car to run to Walmart or Costco and haul the groceries uphill. The owner is one the best owners I have encountered. He is very friendly, and most importantly very responsible. We encountered our second day there without any water to use. It wasn't the best day on our vacation since we were not able to flush toilets nor take a shower. But Carmine made sure the issue was addressed right away after I was not able to reach the property manager. He followed up and made sure everything was well too. After that, our stay there was great! The house was spacious for us, (5 adults and 2 kids). It came with all the amenities you would like to have in a vacation home, heated pool, jaccuzzi, and a gas grill. However, the layout of the house isn't completely ideal since we had young kids. The main master bedroom is almost completely separated from the main living area. So in order to get to the main house, one either need to walk out the house and take the stairs (lots of them) or walk up a steep spiral staire case, that is about 20 foot drop. So we had our kids to use the main stairs instead of the spiral stair case for safety reason. However, if you would like to have some peace and quiet time alone, it would be in fact perfect! Other than that just like other reviewers mentioned, there are a lot of stairs. However, it's understandable when the house is sitting on a hill with a great view. It also definitely needs some TLC. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there. I would recommend anyone who travels to Cabos. Also, this place is next to the most awesome restaurant on a cliff, El Farallon. The view was just simply stunning!"
