4. Create the characters you wish were there!

 5.
6. Pictoplasma, the world’s leading festival of character design and art, has teamed up with Adobe Project 1324 to invite all global youth (aged 18—24) to augment the banality of everyday by giving a face to their imaginary friends and secret sidekicks! Starting with a regular photograph of a typical setting like a nearby grocery store, the office elevator, the school gates, or the front doorstep, entrants are invited to add a character (or characters) to the scene. Any medium or style can be used to alter the original photo—from drawing and collage to digital painting or vector illustration.
7.
8. Five winners will be awarded with a fellowship, including travel costs and attendance at the 15th Pictoplasma Berlin Conference May 2019—and the opportunity to exhibit in an exclusive group show.
9.
10. The Secret Sidekick Challenge deadline for submissions is June 25, 2018.
14. About Pictoplasma
15. Each spring, Pictoplasma transforms Berlin into the international meeting point for a diverse scene of artists and creatives, trailblazing the face of tomorrow's visual culture. The annual festival showcases the latest character design trends in fine and urban arts, illustration, animation, and graphic design. Creators and producers meet for a fun-filled and offbeat conference, cutting-edge screenings bring the latest animation eye-candy to the big screen, and exhibitions invite the general public to experience original works and outstanding character craftsmanship. A second conference takes place later in the year in New York. As the educational counterpart, each fall the Pictoplasma Academy masterclass in Berlin invites a selected group of international graduate students and young professionals to kick-start their careers as character designers in close collaboration with high-profile artists, filmmakers, and producers.
29. Jonathan LeVine Projects, led by the globally recognized gallerist Jonathan LeVine, is bringing the Delusional Art Competition back for a second year.
30.
31. The competition gives artists from around the world a chance to gain exposure and recognition from one of the art market’s most high-profile galleries as well as from some of the industry’s most respected and recognized art professionals.
32.
33. Why submit? Delusional reinvents the juried show, breaking down barriers in the market to create opportunity and access for artists at varying stages of their careers.
34.
35. Submissions are open now through May 20, 2018. Artists working in various backgrounds and styles are encouraged to submit in 2D and 3D mediums for a chance to win a solo exhibition and an online editorial feature in Juxtapoz.
36.
37. Additional prizes include participation in a group exhibition, promotional opportunities, cash prizes and more.
38.
39. The 2018 competition will be reviewed by the following high-profile arts professionals: Evan Pricco (Editor of Juxtapoz), Yasha Young (Director of Urban Nation Museum), Steven P. Harrington & Jaime Rojo (Brooklyn Street Art blog founders), Tara McPherson (Artist), Jeff Soto (Artist), and Jonathan LeVine (Gallerist).
40.
41. “The Delusional exhibition is not just another juried show, it is the real thing and can be a important life-changing opportunity. These are rare events in today's art world,” Ronald Gonzalez, Third-Place Winner, 2017 Delusional Art Competition.
42.
43. Now, are you delusional enough to submit? Follow @delusionalartcompetition on Instagram and Facebook for announcements and prize updates.
61. Milton Glaser, the renowned artist and designer, returns to his alma mater for a free, public discussion on “The Design of Dissent.” Following the conversation with designer Steven Heller, there will be a book signing of the 2017 updated version of Glaser’s The Design of Dissent (co-authored with Mirko Ilic), newly subtitled, Greed, Nationalism, Alternative Facts and the Resistance.
62.
63. Milton Glaser cofounded the revolutionary Push Pin Studios, founded New York magazine with Clay Felker, established Milton Glaser, Inc., and teamed with Walter Bernard to form the publication design firm WBMG. He also designed the famous I♥NY campaign. Glaser’s artwork has been featured in exhibits worldwide, including one-man shows at both the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and The Museum of Modern Art in New York. His work is also a part of several permanent collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, New York. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Obama in 2009.
88. We just received a press release about photographer Lloyd Ziff's new boxed-set of books on Los Angeles and New York that are being published this month:
89.
90. New York/Los Angeles, Photographs: 1967-2015 is a remarkable collection of compelling images of life in two of America’s most exciting cities, as seen through the eye of photographer Lloyd Ziff.
91.
92. This two volume collection encompasses more than 40 years of black/white and color photography. As both cities change before Ziff’s inquiring camera lens, his unique vision emerge, amused and ironic, finding beauty and surprise in daily urban life.
93.
94. Since 2000, Lloyd Ziff has made photography the sole focus of his career. He has had one man shows in New York City at Danziger Gallery and Robin Rice Gallery, and Earl McGrath Gallery in Los Angeles. His book of photographs, Near North, Photographs of Alaska and The Yukon, was published in 2010, and his photographs have been included in Patti Smith's autobiography, Just Kids , and the anthologies American Photography, Graphis Photography, and The Spirit of Family, by Al and Tipper Gore.
95.
96. Ziff's photographs have been published in many of the world's most prestigious magazines including Blind Spot, The New York Times Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, Interview, Kid's Wear (Germany), The Los Angeles Times Magazine, New York, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Wired.
97.
98. Before he became known as a photographer, Ziff was an award-winning art director/design director of magazines, including Vanity Fair, House & Garden, Condé Nast Traveler, New West, and Rolling Stone. Ziff taught magazine design, photography, and illustration at Art Center College in Pasadena, California, The School of Visual Arts in New York City, and for 13 years at Parsons School of Design in New York City. In 1999, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, his alma mater (1967).
In an upcoming workshop called “Whisky Type,” students will learn informative and eye-catching label design using typographic hierarchy and effective use of negative space. The eight-hour intensive will take place on August 16 at the Chapman University in Orange, California.
