On your turn take a dance card while the game's DJ starts 40 seconds of music using the Dance Charades CD. If someone guesses your move and there's still time, take another card and keep on dancing. When time's up, you score a point for each move that was correctly guessed. At the end of the game the player with the most points wins! But listen up! You could also earn points just from your ultra-fly dancing! If other players dig your moves, they can throw up to three tokens into the dance circle for extra points!

Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Superman, Abraham Lincoln or Mrs. Kenmore - your third grade teacher? Who would dress up to visit a nudist camp? Cheat on an exam? Be recruited by the CIA? From celebrities and politicians to fictional characters and even your now famous ex... no one is spared in the game where the majority always rules! After nominating five candidates, players draw question cards that place the characters in awkward, ludicrous or extreme situations, then vote for the one they believe the situation applies to most. The majority wins, but you'll enjoy watching your friends defend their selected candidates, no matter how absurd their claims might be. In this off-the-wall game for 3 to 8 players, you'll argue passionately, laugh out loud and wonder why all debates can't be this much fun!

 187.

188. Here is the latest news in the world of board games, for the week of October 27, 2014:

 189.
Play for Millenials? Board Games

 190.
"Toy industry experts say some people in the United States are turning off their electronic devices to play with classic toys like board games. This is especially true among the so-called millennial generation. People of this generation were born in the 1980s and 1990s. One coffee shop in Los Angeles is making profitable use of the increase in popularity of board games." [link]

 191.
Great 5-Player Board Games

 192.
"There are many great card games and board games that are well suited for 4 players. But what about 5 players?
193. Here are our lists of great games for 5 players. So if you've got a family of 5, flip through our video reviews and written reviews of the card games and board games on these lists to find a few that will fit perfectly with your family." [link]

 194.
Stop Reading This and Go Build Your Own Board Game

 195.
"Jordan Goddard is a first-time board game designer from Carmel, Ind. Together with his partner, Mandy Moulin, he recently created and received Kickstarter backing for Collapse, a post-apocalyptic card game. Goddard tells Popular Mechanics why it's never been easier to build your own game and walks you through the steps." [link]

 196.
Remember When Games Were A Fun, Family Activity? Here Are Some Great Board Game Moments

 197.
"This video from our nostalgic buddies at BuzzFeed, highlights the best moments from not one, not two, not five or 1o - but 31 classic board games. Some of the games are vintage, like Monopoly and Sorry! Others are more recent. But all of them will remind you of a simpler and in many ways more rewarding time when having fun was something people did together, rather than separated from one another by technology - when 'reality' wasn't 'virtual,' but was as real as the person next to you." [link]

 198.
Top 10 Deck Building Games

 199.
"We dug through the boxes of deck builders out there and picked out 10 favorites. It was really hard to pare this list down, and some good games didn't even make the cut, but we were finally able to narrow it down to our (almost) ten favorites." [link]

 200.
Top Ten Games That I Want to Play More - Summer 2014

 201.
"Recently, my biggest struggle in gaming is actually getting playing time - which means that there are a lot of games that I sit around wishing I could actually play. So, why not write up a list of the games that have been staring at me from my closet!" [link]

 355.
Teaching With Toys

 356.

 357.

 358.

 359.
Learn about a new startup game company that is attempting to revolutionize the way that kids learn, but using games as a central part of the educational process.

 360.

 361.
Educational games have been around, well, basically forever, so the headline over at the Huffington Post, What If Toys Are the New Textbooks?, is a bit of a "duh", but the piece actually has some pretty interesting ideas:

 362.

Aside from potentially making learning fun (heaven forbid), it turns out toys can teach us a lot that we should be learning, but our antiquated systems of education are failing miserably to provide.

 363.
What If the "Three Rs" Are Wrong?

 364.
Both what we learn and how we learn needs to change from what we did in the past. Instead of believing things like reading, writing, and arithmetic are the top job skills we should teach our students, what if we shifted to educating learners skills like creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in order to prepare them to be innovative workers and live satisfying lives?

 365.
What if, as our world has changed and progressed over the years, so have the skills we need to negotiate our way through it? And what if, our education system has failed to shift along with the rest of the World? What if, in order to fix a failed system and properly shift to where we should be, we replaced the "Three Rs" with the "Three Cs"? What if, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking were the basic skills educators focused on developing in their learners?

 366.
The article goes on to talk about a startup called 21 Toys, which is aiming to implement games with that new focus. Here's a video that explains what they're about.

 367.

 368.
Twenty One Toys from Twenty One Toys on Vimeo.

 369.

 370.
They're running a Kickstarter campaign to fund their project, which you're welcome to check out if so inclined.

 371.
But I wonder how their proposed games compare to traditional Educational Board Games?

 372.
Hope their startup succeeds; it'll be fascinating to see where this leads.

 381.
It's always fun to see what other people think of as the best board games of the year, and why. Here are some opinions.

 382.

 383.
A number of sites have put together "Best Board Games of 2013"-style posts, so I thought I'd share those, and see if there is any commonality among the lists ... a "best of the best", so to speak.

 384.
SFGate

 385.

Since we last surveyed the landscape, a wealth of fine new board games have appeared, catering to every taste and demographic. It doesn't matter whether you (or the folks on your holiday shopping list) favor intricate strategy or casual back-and-forth, or whether you prefer your games flavored with dinosaurs or politics -- there's something good available for nearly everyone.

 431.
Netrunner -- "There's so much possibility and joy just in the core set. 433.
FearNet

 434.

The board game industry is alive and kicking, and as a result all good genres get proper representation. It seems horror resonates the most with board game companies, because we saw a slew of awesome new games come across our play table.

 438.
A Study In Emerald -- "In this wonderfully complex board game from designer Mark Wallace, players take sides in the tenuous struggle for control of 19th century Europe. Seeing as this board game is based on the Neil Gaiman-scribed short story of the same name, we know it's not that cut and dry."

 442.
Wrap-Up

 443.
Well, I didn't see much commonality in those lists. Perhaps that's to be expected, given the huge number of games that come out each year, and widely-varying tastes and preferences.

 444.
The games that caught my eye this year include Forbidden Desert and Archipelago. Of course, there are some other notable games that weren't mentioned, such as Terra Mystica, Flash! The Lightning Fast Game, and Snake Oil.

 457.
Here's a quick recap of some recent board game reviews of note, from some of our favorite board game reviewers:

 458.
Trains Board Game Review

 459.
via play board games:

Trains is a deck-building game with a board. You must buy cards to lay rails and expand your network to score VPs. You start Trains with a deck of ten cards. After shuffling you draw five of them. On your turn you may spend income cards to buy more cards from the supply, play action cards or use cards place rails and stations on the board. The cost to lay rails on the board depends on the terrain of the space you are building on. Some cards will let you place stations on specific board spaces too. Building rails into stations where your opponents have already built costs extra too. You should pick up Trains if you enjoy deck-builders but want to try one that is different. Of if you really like area control games and want to try one powered by deck-building. And even casual deck-building fans should give it a try. You might find it fits well in your collection.

 462.
Ghost Stories and White Moon

 463.
Felicia and Giancarlo of Board To Death offer up a video review of Ghost Stories and its expansion, White Moon:

 464.

 465.

Ghost Stories is a cooperative game in which the players protect the village from incarnations of the lord of hell – Wu-Feng – and his legions of ghosts before they haunt a town and recover the ashes that will allow him to return to life. Each Player represents a Taoist monk working together with the others to fight off waves of ghosts. The players, using teamwork, will have to exorcise the ghosts which will appear during the course of the game. White Moon is an extension of the cooperative game Ghost Stories.

 467.

 468.
Telestrations Review

 469.
The Board Game Family brings us a review of the party game Telestrations:

Telestrations is like a game of "telephone" – the game where someone would whisper something into a person's ear, who would in turn whisper into the next person's ear, and so on through the group. The last person would say what they heard out loud and see how it compares to the original thing said. Play alternates between drawing and guessing the drawing. Telestrations is a game where having more people play makes the game a lot more fun. The reason is pretty simple – the more people playing means the words can go a lot more off course. And that's where the most laughter comes. As you can imagine, Telestrations scores very high on our "let's play again" game meter. It's such a fun game to play and so simple too, it will definitely get a lot of plays.
