However, I believe this to be incorrect. There are marriage records for William to Jemina and Mary C. Dodd but the marriage record for William's 3rd marriage states her name was Frances Clarkson. Does anyone have any information on Frances Clarkson? Who were her parents? Furthermore, according to the 1850 census of Amherst County, Frances, wife of Charles Massie was 67 yrs, old and the 1850 census of Nelson County, Frances, wife of William was 60 yrs, old. This leads me to believe that we are looking at two different women named Frances.

Alfred 23, John 18, Isabella 20, Mary 10, James 14, Sterling 18 (no surname), and James Sr. 50. This John 18, is about the right age for a John Paxton I'm looking for. He did a 5 year apprenticeship in stone cutting before going to Greeneville, Tennessee to marry Isabella Falls in 1854. Curious posting for a Census. Appears the 23 year old is the head of the house. Any help would be appreciated.

435. We have some DNA evidence that Martha may be related to John & Jerusha (Jerutha) Brown from Amherst County circa 1750. John and Jerusha had 2 children Zachariah b. 1759 and Nancy b. 1772; the 13 year gap might imply that there were other children.
436. Is anybody familiar with the family of John & Jerusha Brown?
437. Can anybody place Martha and Barilla in Amherst County in the 1814-1834 time frame?

609.
610. This is in the Paul Heinegg works of Free African Americans of North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina under the Beverly family. I have been trying to find the source of this with no luck.
611.
612. One of my relatives is Polly Beverly 1805. She shows up in the Buckingham VA personal property taxes around 1820 with James Beverly (there are a few Beverlys there). They stay there (Buckingham) for a couple of years and then Polly Beverly moves to Amherst and lives her life there till she dies. There is no mention of James Beverly. She didn't seem to get "remarried" either.
613.
614. Also Delila Beverly hangs out with her in Amherst. Delila seems to be connected to the Beverlys of Amherst (Samuel and Rhoda Beverly)? I haven't found any proof of it but a lot of folks on Ancestry seems to think so. I'm not holding much stock in it till I get proof though.
615.

647. Buckingham County suffered significant losses of its early court records. This scarcity of records makes this tax list transcription a valuable one. Unique in its approach, with an aim to faithfully preserve, as fully as modern type will permit, the spelling and “feel” of the original tax lists. Years in the making, painstakingly and meticulously transcribed without the usual omission, checked, rechecked and researched. Spanning a period of 29 years (1764,1773-4,1782-92) with over 12,700 individual records enumerating 39,000 tithes, names of slaves, annual summary table and graphs, plus a host of other information that will illuminate the lives and social structure of the county during the late Colonial and early Federal period. The curious researcher will find much of interest here. Included are the names of the taxpayers, their taxable male cohabitants, their slaves’ names, number of their slaves, horses and cattle along with other taxable items like riding carriages and acres of land.
648. These tax lists are transcribed just as the original lists are written; the format, layout and order along with all information recorded is preserved, allowing neighbors and family members to be identified. Includes a 25 page introduction providing a historical background, detailed explanations of the book’s features and format, a table of alternate surname spellings and a table of abbreviations found in the manuscript, a guide for using the reference work, appendices and a complete bibliography and reference section to aid continued research. Features a 160 page index and 227 pages of transcribed records of every name, enabling rapid assembly of information needed from a succession of years for genealogical, historical, sociological or demographic analysis. A unique combination of features, encompassed within a single, very useable and thoughtful layout, providing many facilities for the reader and ultimately resulting in a highly efficient tool that equally yields the maximum utility and quantity of information for the holder of this scholarly work, whether he/she be a genealogist, historian, antiquarian, sociologist or demographer.
649. Written by a genealogist, historian and Virginia native, this book represents a needed and valuable addition to the transcribed records for the county and is sure to help many to further trace their family history and more fully understand the social, economic and political structure of the lives of these early Virginians of Buckingham County. This book will be a valuable addition to every reference library.
