Bollywood had its share of big budget movies that turned out to be flops at the box office. Producers who invested huge sums of money in those projects, found the returns depressing. Some of the recent movies, in spite of having popular star cast, badly suffered and could not even make up for the production cost. Here is a list of 15 big budget Bollywood movies, which flopped miserably at the box office: 1) "Bombay Velvet": Directed by Anurag Kashyap, "Bombay Velvet" featured Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in lead roles. The film was expected to do good box office business, considering the star cast and promotions, but it turned out to be one of the biggest flops of all times. The Rs 120 crore movie died away with a box office collection of just Rs 31 crore. 2) "Roy": This is another Ranbir Kapoor-starrer, which also featured Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez. Directed by Vikramjit Singh, "Roy" was made with a budget of Rs 40 crore but could collect only around Rs 44 crore. 3) " Aag ": Initially titled as "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag", it was a remake of the all-time hit "Sholay". Having a huge star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Mohanlal, Sushmita Sen among others, "Aag" was one of the biggest disasters of all time. The film failed to impress both the critics and the audience, turning out to be one of the biggest flops of Bollywood. 4) "Drona": The fantasy film featuring Abhishek Bachchan as a superhero also had Priyanka Chopra and Kay Kay Menon. Produced at a budget of Rs 60 crore, the film could not even collect half of its production cost. 5) "Kites": Directed by Anurag Basu, it featured Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori. Although the film received mixed response from critics, it failed to create any impact at the box office. It had a budget of Rs 60 crore but got a return of Rs 49 crore. 6) "Veer": This is one of Salman Khan's flop movies, featuring Zarine Khan and Mithun Chakraborty. Salman played the role of a warrior but the film lost the box office battle, earning Rs 46 crore, against a budget of Rs 40 crore. 7) "Yuvvraj": Another flop in Salman Khan's kitty was "Yuvvraj". Incurring a cost of Rs 50 crore, the film bombed at the box office with a collection of Rs 16 crore. 8) "Himmatwala": This was one of the biggest flops of Ajay Devgn and director Sajid Khan was highly trolled for making it. Produced at a budget of Rs 70 crore, the film died after doing business worth Rs 47 crore. 9) "Guzaarish": This Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer was made at a cost of Rs 50 crore. But the producers had to settle for Rs 29 crore. 10) " Blue ": Starring Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and Zayad Khan, the film was directed by Anthony D'Souza. It had a whopping budget of Rs 100 crore but is one of Bollywood's biggest flops. 11) "Love Story 2050": Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra starrer "Love Story 2050" was a science fiction love story. It had a budget of Rs 60 crore and made an earning of almost half of the budget. 12) "Saawariya": This happens to be Ranbir Kapoor's debut movie starring Sonam Kapoor and a special appearance by Salman Khan. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "Saawariya" made a box office collection of Rs 36 crore, against a budget of Rs 40 crore. 13) "Chandni Chowk To China": The Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone starrer was made at a big budget of Rs 80 crore but failed to impress the audience, collecting only Rs 55 crore. 14) " Ra One ": The film presented Shah Rukh Khan as a superhero, Kareena Kapoor as his love interest and Arjun Rampal as the villain. It was created at a huge budget of Rs 130 crore but failed to retain the cost as it earned Rs 114 crore at the box office. 15) "Humshakals": This is another disaster by Sajid Khan. It featured Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Tamannaah Bhatia and Esha Gupta. The film was made with a budget of Rs 75 crore and gave a return of Rs 63 crore.

Thursday Update: BoxOffice.com's final 4-day prediction for Fifty Shades of Grey is now $95 million. Click here for the full top 10 weekend predictions. Wednesday Update: 2015's already delivered one box office phenomenon, and this Valentine's/President's Day weekend is poised to offer up the next one - as well as a new franchise for Universal and Focus Features. The highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation is eyeing several potential records over the course of its extended four-day opening, not the least of which is Valentine's Day's $63 million reigning benchmark for the double-holiday weekend. A bevy of factors further indicate Grey will post one of the biggest R-rated bows in history - this not long after American Sniper scored the second best mark ever in that category with $89.3 million last month (trailing only The Matrix Reloaded's $92 million record set nearly 12 years ago). Fandango recently reported that Grey had become the fastest-selling R-rated film and the fourth-best advance ticket-seller among all movies in the company's history. Meanwhile, MovieTickets.com notes weekend sales are impressively spread out beyond just Thursday and Friday (in large part due to Valentine's Day landing on Saturday this year). Likely, and understandably, conservative in their expectations, Universal is forecasting an opening "north of $50 million". That would put Grey in the range of the first Sex and the City ($57 million) and ahead of Magic Mike ($39 million), but at the rate buzz continues to build, the benchmarks are rapidly moving higher. What's driving said buzz? Every now and then, a perfect storm of exposure and interest helps a film tap into the cultural zeitgeist. As a book series, the Grey trilogy's 100 million+ in global book sales rival that of where Twilight stood (approximately 120 million) prior to the release of its 2011 penultimate chapter, Breaking Dawn - Part 2. That's fitting given that Grey author E.L. James based her trilogy on a series of Twilight fan fiction stories. That alone has created a large crossover between Twilight's and Grey's target audience. For the record, the former franchise saw three films each bow to $138 million or more in their opening (three-day) weekends. Could Fifty Shades exceed $100 million, or get close to Twilight/Hunger Games/Harry Potter levels? It's looking very possible. Women James is looking to become part of an ever-growing crop of female authors who've seen their work adapted into blockbuster films - Twilight's Stephanie Meyer, Gone Girl's Gillian Flynn, The Hunger Games' Suzanne Collins, and of course, Harry Potter 's J.K. Rowling, to name a few. This is no accident in an evolving movie industry trying to meet the demand for high-profile films aimed at female audiences of varying ages. When that demographic expands to include men as "date night" patrons, or "girls' night out" celebrations, big box office numbers follow. That's definitely a factor for Grey considering Universal's brilliant strategy to open a wildly popular erotic thriller over Valentine's Day weekend. Marketing A keystone for any film hoping to succeed is a killer marketing campaign, and Universal knocked this one out of the park. Fifty Shades' trailer was dubbed the most watched of last year, with some reports claiming it to be among the most-watched trailers of all-time. R&B superstar Beyoncé was even tapped to remix her hit song "Crazy In Love" for the film's soundtrack, becoming a notable success in its own right. The Curiosity Factor Further playing into Fifty Shades' burgeoning interest is the controversy behind its sensitive subject matter. After all, and to be blunt, curiosity and sex sell - even, and perhaps especially, to those who are reluctant but simply want to know what the fuss is all about. Albeit in a very different context, The Da Vinci Code similarly rode a wave of controversy and became a box office smash following years of heated debate over the fictional book's religious implications. Social Media Ultimately, these many elements have combined to drive stellar social media activity. Twitter exploded in recent weeks as Grey's overall tweet volume steadily caught up to that of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 during comparable points before release. As of this week, Grey's approximate 325, 000 mentions were only 11 percent behind that franchise blockbuster's tally (and more than six times that of Gone Girl). On Facebook, Fifty Shades' official page has registered an outstanding 8.3 million fans through February 10 - seven times more than the book's own official page. Record Weekend Ahead Wherever Fifty Shades of Grey lands, the weekend box office as a whole is eyeing records of its own. Fox's Kingsman: The Secret Service has been tracking well following a solid marketing campaign, a counter-programming strategy, and positive critical reviews. Additionally, the film's early overseas release has helped the graphic novel adaptation build encouraging online word of mouth. Kingsman looks set for a strong four-day domestic opening north of $30 million.

There is no one who is unaware from the name- Mdhuri Dixit famous as Dhak- Dhak girl. She and her songs have a magical impact on the viewers. From the age of 17, she is ruling cinema world. Her beauty, style, dances and gracious acting has taken Bollywood towards magical success. During her time seats of the cinema house used to be full with the sound of clapping and whistle. Undoubtedly she is the best dancer ever in Bollywood. Also, there has been no female leading actress after her who has seen the level of stardom that Madhuri enjoyed. Pandit Birju Maharaj has called her the “best Bollywood dancer due to her versatility”. Saroj Khan has continually stated her as being her favourite protégé while other choreographers from Shiamak Davar to Vaibhavi Merchant to Farah Khan swear her. Her songs, many of them more than two decades old, are still played with uninterrupted frequency in marriages, functions, radio channels and award shows enjoying the same enviable popularity they had all those years ago. Here we bring a list of some of the memorable, evergreen and timeless songs of the longest reigning queen. Take a cool look at her breathtaking beauty, her famed million-dollar smile, the playful shimmer in her lustrous brown eyes, her celebrated acting prowess, unmatchable box-office appeal among other surreal charms. Below is a list of our most favorite dance songs of Madhuri Dixit. After you watch these, tell us a few of yours in the comments which you love and wish we did, but didn’t. 10. Aaja Nachale The title song of Yash Raj film’s Aaja Nachale is a complete treat. Madhuri looks extremely beautiful and elegant in the blue attire and blows you with her dancing. 9. Badi Mushkal Nothing can beat her dancing skills. Madhuri dances so well in this song that it becomes difficult for her fans to take their eyes off her. Manisha Kiorala shares screen space with Madhuri in this song but fails to create the same magic as Madhuri. 8. Maar Daala Madhuri gave one of her best performances ever in this mujra song, which has become a benchmark for such numbers. She doesn’t fail to surprise us in this classical number which was choreographed by Saroj Khan yet again. Madhuri danced so gracefully in this number that her co actress Aishwarya found it difficult to match up. The chemistry between these two actresses looks great. What makes this song even more special is the fact that Dixit was pregnant during the song shoot and she carried a costume weighing around 10 kg with utmost conviction. 7. Choli Ke Peeche Bollywood’s dancing queen did this raunchy item number in her most popular film ‘Khalnayak’. This is one of the most popular songs of Madhuri’s career. The song was involved in controversies due to its lyrics, but the song is so gracefully performed by Madhuri that it has become a cult classic now. Dixit looked divine in her sexy choli in this song choreographed by her fav Saroj Khan yet again. Her perfect Rajasthani moves awed everyone.

Raja Sen looks back at the year 2013, and picks his 10 favourite Hindi movies. Well done, 2013. It’s been a truly solid year, one where we don’t just have 10 movies worth applauding - compared to most years where I have to cobble together lists full of caveats - but, incredibly enough, we now have more films that deserve a special mention. For me, the films that almost made it to the list were Bombay Talkies , D Day , Kai Po Che and Special 26. They each tick intriguing boxes with novelty and vigour, and would certainly have made the cut in a lesser year. But 2013’s been gracious to the moviegoer. This has been a tough list to rank, and what stands out for me is the fact that it is studded with genuinely extraordinary directorial debuts, with almost half the films on this list made by first-timers. Our filmi future seems, then, to be in safe hands. Here, in ascending order, are 2013’s cinematic champions: 10. Fukrey The best thing in Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s uproarious comedy is a stray, unnamed character. Encountered outside a gurudwara, this gentleman speaks exclusively in non-sequiturs, resulting in much befuddlement for eternally hapless Lalli, played by Manjot Singh. It is a deceptively simple gag which provides the greatest laugh out loud moment in our movies this year. The film brings us a bunch of spot-on Delhi deadbeats - with names like Hunny and Choocha - and while it eventually turns into a bit of a muddle and criminally ignores the womenfolk, there is much to yuk at in this very spirited production.

The subject of homosexuality in India, let alone Bollywood, has for long remained taboo. However, things have starting changing and Bollywood’s attempt to grapple with the concept of same-sex love could be the cause or effect of the slow acceptance of homosexuality in our country. On the occasion of International Day Against Homophobia, we dissect how our film industry is dealing with this theme in its creations. The Raw Start The path breaker was Deepa Mehta, when she made her first installment of her elements trilogy, ‘Fire’ (1996). A movie well ahead of its time – if the protests and controversy are anything to go by – it was loosely based on Ismat Chugtai’s 1941 story, ‘Lihaf’. The story of the love and passion that grows between two married women in a stifling and controlling household came under huge criticism from right-wing groups when it was first released. The Covert It was the same year that the little known short film ‘Bomgay’ was made and released (albeit, not in India). Based on the works of poet R. Raj Rao, gay director Riyad Vinci Wadia got Rahul Bose to star in this film. Touted as the first Indian gay movie, this film explores the gay culture in Bombay. Humor as Defense Mechanism 6 years later, Sahitya Akademi awardee Mahesh Dattani gave us the arthouse movie ‘Mango Soufflé’ (2002). A movie that explores the coming-out of a lonely gay fashion designer in a comic way – it did not create as much furore as ‘Fire’, heralding the slow acceptance of gay movies among Indian public. Homophobic Humor After that came a spate of mainstream Bollywood movies which dealt with homosexuality as a secondary concern; and there were some others that outright smacked of homophobia. Cases in point are Karan Johar’s movies, for instance - ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ (2003) – where the character Kanta Ben is horrified at the seemingly gay relationship between Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Johar squeezes as much humor as he can out of this comedy of errors – as he does in his 2008 movie ‘Dostana’. Mainstream Mention Some other movies in the first decade of the new century which have dealt with homosexuality as one of its themes have been ‘Turning 30!!!’ (2011) and ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’ (2007), which depicts the emotions of a newly wedded man when he realizes he is gay, while at the same time, another newly-wed couple makes peace with the husband being gay so as to have a amiable marriage. In the same way, the character of Samir Soni who is a gay fashion designer in ‘Fashion’ (2008) marries model Mugdha Godse to make peace with his family. These, more than KJo’s depictions, have been realistic in that they are common in conventional Indian middle-class families. Deserves Mention: Onir Onir, one of the few openly gay directors in Bollywood, has also dealt with the stigma of being gay in India in his movies ‘My Brother Nikhil’ (2005) and ‘I Am’ (2010). ‘My Brother Nikhil’, especially, was path-breaking for dealing with the theme of gay relationships and HIV/AIDS. Soulless Stereotypes And then there are those movies which jump on the bandwagon with no soul and all sensationalization. We are talking about ‘Girlfriend’ (2004), which played up the stereotypes of a lesbian relationship without actually moving the audience.

Bollywood actors are very particular about the role they play and can go to any extent to get into the skin of the character. There are actors and actresses in Bollywood who lose weight for a character or work hard to stay fit. However, a few beautiful bombshells of Bollywood have gained oodles of weight to fit into their character. Let's take a look at some of them... Kareena Kapoor Khan The size zero actress agreed to gain some weight for Rajkumar Kumar Hirani's 3 Idiots, where she played the 'girl-next-door.' Since Kareena plays a doctor in the film, she needed to look healthy. Hence, Kareena racked up a few kilos. Well, the effort seemed to have paid off as the film was a huge success. 01 There have been a lot of speculations about Rajkumar Hirani's biopic on Sanjay Dutt. The latest is that actor Ranbir Kapoor, who will be essaying the role of Sanju baba, will need to hit the gym and beef up. The film is scheduled to go on floors by mid-2016. It will be an interesting watch to see the young actor all bulked up for this role. This hot Bollywood actress had to put on weight for her movie. Find out who... Ranbir Kapoor bulking up for upcoming Sanjay Dutt biopic? 02 Bollywood actors are very particular about the role they play and can go to any extent to get into the skin of the character. There are actors and actresses in Bollywood who lose weight for a character or work hard to stay fit. Hence, Kareena racked up a few kilos. Well, the effort seemed to have paid off as the film was a huge success. 03 Priyanka Chopra Priyanka Chopra gave her heart and soul for the characters that she played in the film, Saath Khoon Maaf. And it seems that apart from that she also had to gain weight for some of the characters from the film. In order to look older for certain portions in Saat Khoon Maaf, PeeCee had to gain a few kilos. The film’s director, Vishal Bhardwaj, had apparently asked Priyanka to put on some weight for a few portions of the film and the committed actress was all game. Priyanka did justice to the role she played and received accolades from every quarter. However, for Mary Kom , Priyanka had to do the opposite and lose weight to look like an athlete. 04 Kangana Ranaut One of Bollywood’s highest paid actresses, Kangana Ranaut, is currently at the top of her game. Her recent hits, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Queen cemented her position in the industry. For Tanu Weds Manu, the slim actress had to put on a whopping seven kilos to look convincing as the married woman. It seems like Kangana, too, is a perfectionist when it comes to films. 05 Vidya Balan Vidya Balan, too, had to gain weight for one of her most-applauded roles. While The Dirty Picture changed the manner in which Vidya’s career was progressing, she had to put in a lot of efforts for the film. She had apparently gained 12 kilos to resemble yesteryear siren, Silk Smitha. Throughout the film, Vidya carried herself gracefully without any inhibitions despite the extra pounds of flab that she was carrying on her frame. 06 Jacqueline Fernandez In order to play Dr Shaina Mehra opposite Salman Khan in Kick, this svelte Sri Lankan babe had to tilt the weighing scale to the heavier side. The weight gain indeed paid off as the film proved to be the gamechanger for the actress. However, the actress is back in shape and is rocking the Bollywood industry. After winning the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, Jacqueline featured in her first commercial music video a year later. Jacqueline was seen in the ‘O sathi’ music video by Sri Lankan duo Bathiya and Santhush which brought her into the limelight. The diva was seen in a figure-hugging red gown alongside the two singers in the music video. Two years later, Jacqueline made her Bollywood debut opposite Riteish Deshmukh in Aladin. The lucky girl also shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt in the film.

Sigh…are we still having these types of conversations in 2014?!? C’mon people! Bollywood beauty Deepika Padukone has recently made headlines, and she is pissed. In a country like India where the majority of news stories lately are about the horrific rapes, murders and hangings of young women, it’s no surprise that the actress would be outraged when a major Indian media outlet decided perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes was “newsworthy”. The Time of India, supposedly one of the most respected and widely known news sources in India, tweeted a video compilation of boob shots from a variety of Deepika’s films. Deepika saw it and shocked that she was the subject of blatant sexism, and decided to tweet her anger: Supposedly India’s ‘LEADING’ newspaper and this is ‘NEWS’!!?? — Deepika Padukone (@deepikapadukone) The Times of India then responded to her outrage claiming it was a “compliment” and that they wanted everyone to know how great she looks. Ummmm, ok… The biggest problem with that idiotic response is that they weren’t complimenting Deepika as a whole person, but focusing on one specific part of her body, sexualizing it for entertainment’s sake, and effectively dismembering her worth down to just a body part. Let’s be clear, telling a woman how great her boobs are and talking about them on her behalf is NOT a compliment. Talking about her intelligent, her success, her creativity, her ability to care for others, the way she deals with difficultly and how she advocates for other people is a compliment. How embarrassing that a major media outlet doesn’t even know the difference! But simply tweeting her disgust at the TOI and having many of her fans support her wasn’t enough. In the name of true female empowerment, Deepika decided to write titled ‘My Point Of View’ about the inherent problem with this situation. And let’s be clear, it wasn’t just that they were talking about her body and calling her sexy: There is only ONE sign that a woman wants to have sex and that is that she says “YES”. The reason I write the above line is because we all know that in India we are so desperately trying to make a change in the way sections of our society think in order to move towards a happier world devoid of inequality, rape, fear and pain.

This list, however, is a subjective exercise that may be liked by some and disliked by many or vice-versa. Here are my favourites of the year. 1. TALVAR ‘Talvar’ is gritty, realistic and most uncomfortable film to have come out of Bollywood this year. Meghna Gulzar’s pitch-perfect direction coupled with Vishal Bhardwaj’s watertight screenplay and Gulzar’s heart-rending lyrics made ‘Talvar’ a breakthrough affair. Grade: A+ 2. PIKU The simplicity and charm of director Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ spoke to me even hours after I left the theatre. It is a beautifully written and brilliantly realised film that leaves the audience spellbound. On the other hand, it also proved to be a path-breaking movie for Deepika Padukone - as an actor. Grade: A 3. MASAAN ‘Masaan’ was the toughest film to watch this year. It made me uncomfortable. Director Neeraj Ghaywan used the best of his capabilities to delineate the mind-boggling study of societal degradation in this film. On the other hand, Richa Chadha has established herself as one of the most facially expressive actress after giving this ‘ballsy’ performance. Grade: A 4. BOMBAY VELVET In this film, Anurag Kashyap has brilliantly wrapped the critique of capitalism vs. communism in the bygone era. The main hero of this film is Anushka Sharma - her emotional outbursts, her flirtatious outings and her stage performances are all finely calibrated and perfectly executed. Sharma’s performance took ‘Bombay Velvet’ a notch higher than it could’ve been without her. Grade: A- 5. MARGARITA, WITH A STRAW This heart-meltingly profound story of a differently abled teenage girl left the critics in awe and admiration. The performance of Kalki Koechlin is at par with industry’s best actresses this year. No woman this year gave a better performance than Koechlin's. Grade: B+

And the award for the fiercest response to offensive Internet trolls goes to... Vishakha Singh! Over the weekend, Singh posted a picture of herself in a simple t-shirt with a quote. Soon after, one fan commented on the quote across her chest, saying, “thought is worth but position generally regard us tharki…miss.” (In case you were wondering, “tharki” loosely translates to lascivious or lustful.) At first, Singh was confused by the comment (he seems to be referring to the positioning of the text across her chest), but as soon as she understood it, she expertly tore it apart, pointing out the commenter’s immaturity. “Well, Vikas Singh. You look educated, ” Singh responded. “Where do you think a quote on a Tshirt be? Shoulders? Arms? Stop making such juvenile comments. If you derive childish pleasure out of the fact that it’s on the chest area, then God help women and women safety issues.” As if that wasn’t enough, Singh faced yet another troll when a second commenter wrote, “Nice looking & nice boobs.” Unfazed, Singh fired back at troll number two with another perfect reply. Here’s what she said: “Mr MD Mustakim Saifi, 1) remove that innocent child’s picture as your dp. 2) have the guts to put your own profile picture . And then comment. 3) Nice boobs. I know i am a woman.” She then continued by giving him a little anatomy lesson before sending him on his way. “And for your general knowledge, Yes, All women have breasts, ” she wrote. “Your mother, sister, wife, grandmother, aunts, daughter, friends. All of them included. Do you walk up to them and say ‘nice boobs’? Feel sorry for you. Have the guts to say it on my face?? Else, get off my page.” Excuse us, we’re still recovering from the sheer awesomeness of Singh’s response. But the actress wasn't done yet. Next, Singh took to Twitter to sound off, showing her resilience. — Vishakha J Singh (@vishakhasingh55) — Trisha Krishnan (@trishtrashers) — Vidyu (@VidyuRaman) Thank you for your feedback. The girl is always to blame, isn't it. — Vishakha J Singh (@vishakhasingh55)
