By measuring the co-ordinates of laser pulses on the Moon surface the 3D model of Moon can be produced. With 0.5mrad half divergence angle the laser pulse will have a footprint of 100m diameter on the surface of Moon from an altitude of 100km. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And also ISRO, Indian Space Research Organisation, is planning to send a robot for its mission to moon. It is probably going to be made by students and profs of IIT-Kanpur The two-legged robot, fitted with sophisticated sensors and high-resolution cameras, is capable of recording information and images using laser beams. It can also detect the distance of a hindrance, enter a small crater, bring surface samples and return high resolution images to the lunar vehicle. When we send the spacecraft to the moon, the gravitational field will have a strong influence on its [the spacecraft&#39;s] orbit. We have some inputs available on this based on past missions. But when the spacecraft orbits the moon we will get some data on this. Using these, we will try to define a trajectory for the impactor. That will be one of our major experiments. As the impactor descends, it will take closer pictures of the lunar surface and when it impacts, it will kick up some dust. Using the mass spectrometer, we will be able to get the signature related to the composition of the material that covers the lunar surface.
