After getting shut down by my webhost for "insane server load spikes", I took a shot in the dark and upgraded the forum software. This took about 5 days (long story). 
 
Just 2 hours after being back on line I see that there are already 1023 users, 999 of which are guests, and still climbing. Someone suggested throttling newbies and guests. Does such a thing exist?

Does anyone know what it would take to make this thing functional again? I changed the url in inc/settings.php and it loads the index page but can't login or load any other pages!

I like the curveui 1.9 theme, but the postbit display is lacking user info that I know my forum members will moan about!! 
 
Is there a way to get the user info (posts, threads, joined, location) to display under the avatar or the usual place such as in the default mybb theme? 
 
I have post layout set to classic layout in admin.

I've been away from administrating forums for almost 20 years so I have a lot to catch up on. But here we are, back again giving it another shot. 
 
My main site with be running on Wordpress and I will be running myBB alongside, in separate directory. I want to export the last ten posts to homepage of the Wordpress base site. I only want to export the post titles, date, member name but not the content. 
 
I'm not wanting to integrate the two in anyway. 
 
What options do I have to make this happen?

<description><![CDATA[The latest in my ongoing attempts to upgrade from 1.6.13 to 1.8.38: 
 
After days of trying to update on the webserver, I finally gave up and took the backup and read it into a local linux machine and loaded myBB 1.8.38 and performed the update. Then I dumped the resulting SQL DB and reloaded it back into the web server. At first glance this seemed to work pretty good. 
 
(I do recall being alarmed when I saw a message "Adding index files to attachment directories" but hoped for the best, because I think it was too late anyway.) 
 
However, in the upgraded 1.8.38 version: 
 
mycodes in posts don't work. ie: posts that used to be properly formatted are now displayed with [b][/size][/font] etc. showing. 
 
Attachments seem gone - there are no indicators in the forum, and I see mycode-style text instead like: 
[attachment=14398][attachment=14399][attachment=14400][attachment=14401][attachment=14402]
