140.
What surprised me was I am long waisted and my legs are short. Whenever I made clothes I always added length to the waist and legs. I thought it was because I am tall (tall for my generation). Now I know I carry my height between my chin and waist. I always like wearing high-waisted pants when they were in style. I never liked low-rise pants on me and now I know why. When I weighed less I always liked wearing jacket that hit at my waist and now I know why. I have never liked capris on me and now I know why.

 141.
After looking at myself in the mirror I determine I am a mix between ‘S’ shape and ‘A’ shape. Growing up I always thought I had an ‘A’ shape because my hips were two sizes larger than my waist and I had side saddles (sense I was 12 weighting 105 and 5’7” tall, skin and bones). But really looking in the mirror my hips (minus the side saddles) are pretty even with my shoulders. Even though I’m much older I still have a defined waist. As a result of this evaluation, I have an ‘S’ shape but my side-saddles create a slight ‘A’ shape.

 142.
Now that I have this knowledge I can really pinpoint the styles and shapes of clothes, and accessories I should be wearing. There are two more bits of information you also need to know: face shape and coloring. I will discuss these factors in future blogs.

 143.
In the next two blogs I will discuss placement of horizontal and vertical lines.

 195.

To understand where you put the horizontal and vertical lines, you first determine your height proportion and body shape. The ideal height proportion to your body height equals:

 196.

 197.
8 heads tall

 198.
1 head – top of head to bottom of chin

 201.
2 heads – pelvic bone to knees

 202.
2 heads – knees to feet

 204.
The ideal body for a woman is one where the shoulders and hips appear to be the width of the waist, if they are nine inches smaller than the hips. The ideal body for a man is the shoulders to look wider than the waist and hips. The waist and hips appear to be the same.

 205.
When I say the shoulders and hips appear to be the same width, I do not mean they have the exact same measurements. What I mean is that when you look at the shoulders and hips for a woman and waist and hips for a man you can put a rectangle in front of the body the shoulders/hips and waist/hips are the same.

 206.
Notice I have not talked about actual weight or size of the body. I am just talking about visual appearance. I have no idea where these standards actually started and why. I do know that the model shapes you see down the run ways during fashion week and fashion magazines are used because most any style of clothes looks good on that body. Unfortunately this body type is not that of the average woman. The average women is paired shape and short waist. I am told this shape allows us to carry babies and give birth easily.

 207.
In the following blog entries I will be writing about determining your height proportions and different body shapes and how to fool the eye through horizontal and vertical lines.

 228.

As I described in my last blog, vertical lines can cut the body vertically to make it appear thinner. These lines elongate the body to add length. When placed properly vertical lines can make you look thinner and taller.

 229.
Consider the following rectangles:

 230.

 231.
Which boxes look taller and which look thinner? I love working with vertical lines.

 232.
Vertical lines are my primary tool in designing clothes. I started out designing a shift (www.designwithjoy.com/styles/stylesBasic.html). When designing this dress I placed the princess lines in different positions. I’d make the dress and wear it. The final dress was made out of a flower print so you couldn’t really see the Princess line. I got so many compliments on that dress. Even 10 years later I get compliments when I wear that dress. What is amazing about the dress is you can’t tell I have larger hips because I look well proportioned. The princess lines are fooling the eye.

 233.
You can also create vertical lines in pants by pressing in a crease line up the center of the front and back leg. This crease does two things. First it elongates the leg. So if you have short legs iron in the crease and wear your pant so they cover your shoes. If you have thicker thighs, the crease will also cut your leg to make them appear smaller.

 234.
Now that you know the uses of horizontal and vertical lines, the next series of blog entries will be on how to use them on your body.

 258.

All clothing has horizontal and many have vertical lines. Horizontal lines cut the body to make it appear shorter and wider. These lines also draw the eye to that area. Vertical lines can cut the body vertically to make appear thinner and they elongate the body to add length. When used correctly horizontal and vertical lines can be your friend; but, used incorrectly they are your foe. In this blog entry I will write about horizontal lines. The next entry will be about vertical lines.

 259.
Horizontal Lines

 260.
Horizontal lines can occur anywhere through hems on blouses/jackets, skirts and pants. Style lines (sewn seams) can also create horizontal lines, such as the seam under the bust of an empire waist dress or horizontal pockets on jackets. Finally, accessories can create horizontal lines like necklaces close to the neck, belts and shoes with ankle straps.

 261.
As I stated above horizontal lines cut the body to make it look shorter, wider and draw the eye to that area. Consider the following rectangles:

 262.

 263.
These rectangles illustrate how horizontal lines shorten and widen the body. Which rectangle looks the longest? Which rectangle looks the shortest? Which is the widest? All four rectangles are the same size. It’s the horizontal lines that trick the eye.

 264.
Now consider where your eye stops. In Figure 1 your eyes don’t stop, while in Figures 2, 3 and 4 your eye stops at the horizontal line. Now consider your body. Where do you want the eye to stop and where do you not want it to stop?

 265.
Before turning 50 I had a real small waist, flat tummy, and larger hips. My hips were larger because I have side saddles. I have had them since I was twelve years old and weighing 105 pounds and 5’7’’. I had a combination of a figure 8 and pear shaped body. I liked to put emphasis on my waist, so I would wear belts, tuck my shirt in, and wear jackets that stopped just below my waist. The one area where I try not to have a horizontal line is at my hips emphasizing my side saddles so I look for clothes that hide them like long jackets and dresses.

 266.
Now that I am in my 50’s and post-menopausal I have developed a pouch on my stomach area, lost my waist and gained weight. The horizontal lines on my clothes have changed. I now have the horizontal lines hit half way between my waist and hips and/or a couple of inches below my hips.

 267.
I challenge you look at your clothes and look at the horizontal lines. Are you emphasizing the right areas or the areas you don’t want emphasized? Are they cutting you in the wrong spot and make you look shorter? Don’t just look at top length but also pant and skirt length. Capri pants make your legs look shorter, so if you already have short legs they will look even shorter.

 268.
The next blog entry we will talk about vertical lines.

 296.

In my last blog I wrote about pesky thoughts I worked to let go of, but found I was still having. This blog I will write about what I did to decrease the frequency and incorporate thoughts that support you.

 297.
Even though I had done a lot of work to get rid of fears and negative thoughts, my life still was not going in the direction I wanted it to go in. Then I started to notice two thoughts that kept reoccurring: “nothing works for me” and “I will never have enough money”.

 298.
Now these thoughts were not as negatively charged as they had once been. But they were still there bringing what I didn’t want: ideas that did not work and not havimg enough money. This time I did something different. I decided to embrace them.

 299.
I thanked them for keeping me safe from disappointment. I gave them an emotional love. By doing just that I felt lighter.

 300.
I also told them that I will consult with them when I get a new idea to determine if they are needed. They agreed. I know this sounds hokey but it is the act of embracing all of me. I got this idea after rereading Debbie Ford’s book, ‘The Dark Side of the Light Chasers’.

 301.
Every trait, thought, belief has good qualities and not so good qualities. The key is to know when to use it. For example, I tend to be shy and introverted. These qualities can be good because I can sit back and see the lay of the land and see things others don’t. However they get in my way when I need to socialize and get to know new people like at networking events.

 302.
I challenge you to embrace those thoughts, beliefs and fears which seem to stay around no matter what.

 303.
As a side note I don’t think I could have done this when the thoughts were heavily charged with negative energy. I recommend to tap (blog dated 8/15/11, 8/18/11, and 8/20/11) before you embrace them. It’s much easier to embrace when neutrally charged, and it might disappear by just tapping.

 304.
I am done writing about thoughts, beliefs and fears for a while. I thought it was important because you are broadcasting (even if you don’t know it) because of quantum physics properties. The next several blog entries will be about determining what style of clothes looks best on your body.

 325.

In a previous blog entry I talked about monitoring your thoughts to determine if they support your goals and dreams. In a following blog I wrote about releasing the negative energy that is around the thoughts, beliefs and fears. In most cases this is all you need to do start incorporating thoughts and beliefs systems that support you. This blog entry is about incorporating new thoughts and beliefs that support you.

 326.
The first step of incorporating new thoughts is understanding what you truly want. It can be very general or specific. I want to own a business and design business clothes for women.

 327.
Next determine what thoughts go with your wants. Your thoughts can be general or specific: I’m an entrepreneur or I’m a successful clothes designer.

 328.
Think these thoughts as often as you can remember to. Many people put them on index cards. Bring them up into conversations. Over time these new thoughts become a part of you.

 329.
Once these thoughts become a part of you, then you can become bolder, i.e.: I have so many business ideas I can’t count them all, or I’m number one designer for business clothing for women Portland.

 330.
The key is to start at a place which stretches you and at the same time you can get your head around.

 331.
I would also start out with one or two new thoughts in one area of your life. As they are incorporated and that part of your life starts moving in the direction you want to go, then change thought patterns in other parts of your life.

 332.
After the turn in the economy in 2007, the bottom of my business fell out. It has been very difficult getting any momentum again. I started to work on myself: my fears (I had many), negative beliefs, and thoughts. People would ask me what I do. I used to say a clothing designer. It sounded like a lie to me because I had no clients.

 333.
Then one day I decided to tell people I was an entrepreneur, because I do get many ideas and getting a “JOB” did not sound fun to me. The response from the universe was unbelievable. I started to get more and more excellent ideas which were doable for me.

 334.
One of these ideas is to start this blog. For many years I had talked about it but it did not seem doable for me because I am not a natural writer. But here I am doing it because I started telling people I’m an entrepreneur. I have also started a mastermind group, and in the process of starting a podcast interviewing different people to help others to find jobs, get ahead in their chosen career, or start a business.

 335.
Now just because you have done all the work talked about in prior blog entries does not mean you are home free. Therefore you still need to monitor your thoughts. I have two pesky thoughts patterns: nothing will work for me and I will never have enough money.

 336.
Before I did the work of eliminating the negative emotion around these thought, I would become paralyzed. But now I notice I still have the thoughts without negative energy.

 337.
In the next blog I will write about transforming these thoughts into ones that serve you.

 361.

My final step is incorporating the life I want to live. I decided my life is full of joy, love and abundance and I put it into an affirmation form.

 362.
So what do these words really mean: Joy, Love and Abundance?

 363.
Joy is seeing the lighter side of everything I do and every situation I’m in. I am learning to find the Joy in mundane things like cleaning my house and pulling weeds. I’m learning to find Joy in the darker side of myself.

 364.
In writing this blog I got writers block and I asked the universe for help. What happened was a roller coaster ride. I fell in to the depths of anger and self-pity. I started cleaning my office and getting rid of unwanted paper and filing away the rest. After a while I started to think about the book ‘The Dark Side of the Light Chasers’ by Debbie Ford. I have it so I started to read it and became inspired to write this blog. I look back and see a method in the universes madness and I decided I will trust the madness and in the process find the Joy.

 365.
Love is seeing every aspect of life, accepting it and seeing perfection in it. In the book ‘Conversations with God’ written by Neale Donald Walsch, God told him, “Perfect love is to feeling what perfect white is to color. Many think that white is the absence of color. It is not. It is the inclusion of all color. White is every other color that exists combined. So, too, is love not the absence of emotion (hatred, anger, lust, jealousy, covertness), but the summation of all feeling? It is the sum total. The aggregate amount. The everything.”

 366.
In Debbie Ford’s book, ‘The Dark Side of the Light Chasers’, she says ‘Love is inclusive: it accepts the full range of human emotion – the emotions we hide, the emotions we fear.”

 367.
My quest is to except and love all of myself and others. To know the shadow sides in all of us mixed in with the light makes us perfect.

 368.
There is Abundance in all of our lives. Most of the time, we just don’t see it. We see what we don’t have: the house, car, vacations, clothes…fill in the blank. Look in a different direction. What Abundance do you have in your life? I have air to breath, food to eat, water to drink and bathe, love from my husband and son, ideas to create products and businesses, freedom to create the life I in vision to name a few. As you concentrate on what is Abundant in your life right now, Abundance spreads into other places. It also brings more Joy and Love in to your life.

 369.
Most mornings I wake up and tap “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you”, and “I choose to live in Joy, Love, and Abundance”. I also tap the same thing most evenings. When I do my days are better and I sleep better at night because I’m learning how to except and love life’s up and downs.

 393.

In my second tapping pass I state ‘I love you’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘Please forgive me’, ‘Thank you’. This process is known as Ho’oponopono. I first learned about this process when I read Joe Vitale’s book ‘Zero Limits’.

 394.
Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice for mental cleansing. In his book Joe Vitale writes about Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len being the head psychologist at a hospital for the criminally insane. Dr. Hew Len did not work with the patients in the usual manner.

 395.
He believes we are 100% responsible for our lives. If a problem comes into our awareness and even if it is someone else’s problem, it means we have shared memories which cause this problem to come to our attention. It is our responsibility to clear the memories in us. As we clear the memory in us, it clears the memory in others.

 396.
Dr. Hew Len believes since these patients problems came to his attentions this meant he had shared memories with these patients. To help these patients, he had to clear himself of these memories.

 397.
So at this hospital he did not work with the patients but on himself by repeating the words “I love you’, I’m sorry’, ‘Please forgive me’, ‘Thank you’.

 398.
When Dr. Hew Len arrived at the hospital, he found prisoners shackled and heavily sedated. There was a high turnover rate of staff and sick leave, and everyone was very stressed out.

 399.
By just saying ‘I love you’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘Please forgive me’, ‘Thank you’ prisoner medication was reduced dramatically, and they were not shackled anymore. Staff turnover and sick leave decreased. The hospital became a much better place to be.

 400.
Within three years the unit was closed because there were no more patients. Unbelievable don’t you think?

 401.
I hope I have piqued your curiosity to read Joe Vitale’s book or at least go on the internet to find out more. The implications of using this method are mind blowing to me.

 402.
I had never thought of saying ‘I love you” while tapping EFT. Then on YouTube I saw Brad Yates has incorporated it into tapping. You can go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nebxoNl5iKI to see how he incorporated it.

 403.
You might ask why I don’t use Ho’oponopono exclusively. I found for myself I still have much residual fear and negative talk. I’m not in a place where I can fully benefit from using it alone. But using it as a part of my taping I can benefit from it because it keeps my mind focused on love, forgiveness and gratitude. Think what this world would be like if everyone focused on love, forgiveness and gratitude.

 404.
My next blog will discuss by last tap ‘I choose to live in joy, love, abundance.’

 428.
The first step is releasing fears and negative emotions. There are many modalities out there and I have most likely tried then all. (In another blog entry I will outline all that I have tried and you can pick the ones that work for you the best.) The one I am discussing today is EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique. There are many websites and YouTube videos explaining EFT. The ones I like the best are Brad Yates and Carol Look.

 429.
EFT uses the same principals as acupuncture except no needles are used. Instead of needles you use your fingers and tap on specific point. If you go to Brad Yates website http://www.bradyates.net/eft.html you can get the basic tapping points and process.

 430.
In my process, I tap three different ways which incorporates ideas I have taken from many practitioners.

 431.

 432.
Determine on a scale from 0 to 10 the intensity of the fear/negative emotion with 10 being the most severe.

 433.
State the fear and/or emotion to be released and tap down the right side of my body and then the left side.

 434.
Say the phrases ‘I love you’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘Please forgive me’, and ‘Thank you’ while tapping down the right side of my body and then the left side.

 435.
Say ‘I choose to live my life’, ‘in joy’, ‘love’ ‘and abundance’ tapping down the right side of my body and then the left side.

 436.
Determine on a scale from 0 to 10 the intensity of the fear/negative emotion.

 437.
Go back to the first step until the intensity is 0 or 1.

 438.

 439.
Brad Yates really explains the overall process and the first tapping pass very well. So I won’t go in to it any further. In the next three blog entries I will explain my reasoning behind the second and third tapping passes and the extraordinary result I received by doing this process.

 440.
I know this is a little ‘out there’ but if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired I urge you to look into it further.
