Glitter means that the complexion appears clear and bright from the outside; body means that it is moist and with lustre in the inside.’ ~Shi Pa Nan in Origin of Medicine (1861)</em></p> <p>Spring is here, so it’s time to start brightening up your skin and feel rejuvenated. I love how the light changes now, with brighter mornings and evenings. Have you noticed this time of year how your skin changes too? Even when it’s cold or extremely warm, I’m sure you’d agree it’s always nice to have a moist, glowing complexion.</p> <p>A surprising amount of patients present with all sorts of skin complaints. This is a subject I find very interesting because often, how you nourish your body on the inside shows up on the outside too. A traditional acupuncturist is trained to use subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined for centuries. Part of the diagnosis is to observe a patient’s face, as, believe it or not, a healthy mind and spirit show most of all in the skin. There’s often a definable quality of glow to the skin when a patient is in a reasonably good state of health [1].</p> <p>Many factors, such as poor sleep, stress, a bad diet, hormonal imbalances or undesirable environmental conditions, to name but a few, can lead to skin problems. Much advice is also focused on what you put on your skin. I wanted to share some essential factors that may benefit your complexion by focusing on what you put into your body.</p> <p>I know from my own experience and working with friends that the ‘one size fits all approach is impossible because we are all unique. But there are certain simple things you can do to encourage a healthy, natural glow.</p> <p>I’ve deliberately not mentioned the importance of using good-quality natural oils because this is a complex area, and, unfortunately, it is beyond this blog post’s scope. If you are interested in more information, please visit my other page.</em></p> <ol><li><strong>WATERCRESS SOUP</strong></li></ol> <p>For spring, it’s a good idea to brighten up your complexion by adding plenty of dark green leafy seasonal vegetables to your diet. I love watercress soup this time of year because it’s so quick and easy to make and packed with skin-boosting vitamins. Most of the time, we tend to associate soup with winter or autumnal food, but it’s ideal for warming you up on a cold spring day. Good quality watercress leaves and stems are also really flavourful this time of year.</p> <p>In traditional Chinese medicine, watercress is renowned for its skin-nourishing properties, especially when there are signs of <em>Blood deficiency</em>. To keep it simple, our complexion is commonly related to <em>Blood</em>. If a patient has a healthy glowing complexion with <em>Shen, </em>this often indicates a healthy state of the <em>Blood</em>. Conversely, if a patient’s complexion is lacking in <em>Shen</em> and looks dull, somewhat dry and without lustre, this often indicates <em>Blood deficiency </em>[2]. It’s very common to see these signs on the skin when a woman is menstruating or when a patient is suffering from shock, anxiety or eating a poor diet, along with other factors.</p> <p>Ive seen many of my friends who are ‘running on empty from not eating correctly or overdoing it. I recommend making a delicious <em>Blood-nourishing</em> soup, such as watercress or anything seasonal that’s dark, green and leafy to put some nourishment back into the body.</p> <p>I came across a recipe for James Martin’s watercress soup many years ago, and it has been a favourite of mine ever since. I’ve played around with it, and this is now my version. I hope you find the recipe tasty and that it brings a lovely glow to your cheeks!</p> <p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p> <p>2 tbsp of organic extra virgin olive oil</p> <p>2 shallots bulbs (golden gourmet)</p> <p>1 cup of organic peas</p> <p>2 packets of organic watercress (John Hurd’s)</p> <p>Organic, gluten-free chicken stock or homemade stock (1.5-2 pints)</p> <p>Himalayan salt (to taste)</p> <p>Palm full of flat-leaved parsley</p> <p>Organic, grass-fed butter</p> <p><strong>Method:</strong></p> <ol><li>Start by heating the extra virgin olive oil in a saucepan and cook the shallots with some Himalayan salt slowly for 10 minutes, so they turn translucent.</li></ol> <p>2. Add the peas, and fry for 3 minutes until softened.</p> <p>3. Add the 1.5 litres of chicken stock and the 2 bags of watercress. Then bring the mixture to a boil until the watercress has wilted (avoid overcooking as it will turn a dull green colour).</p> <p>4. Meanwhile, add the flat-leaved parsley and, using a stick blender, start blending the soup, adding the remaining 0.5 litres of chicken stock and a knob of butter.</p> <p>5. Blend the soup until smooth. Lastly, season with salt and pepper.</p> <p><strong>Helpful tip</strong>– Ladle the soup into a large bowl and garnish with some flat-leaved parsley. Serve with a warm crusty roll and some delicious organic butter. Like most soups, it tastes better the next day and freezes well for emergencies.</p> <ol start="2"><li><strong>ROYAL JELLY</strong></li></ol> <p>If you have a soft spot for unadulterated products, then maybe royal jelly is appropriate. Its direct connection with mother nature is anything but difficult to love.</p> <p>Research has shown that royal jelly may help support your natural skin health because the honey-bee product contains proteins, carbohydrates, fats, free amino acids and minerals. One amino acid is thought to have the capacity to stimulate collagen production <a href="http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/jmf.2010.1363" target="_blank" rel="noopener">[3]</a>. Interestingly, in Chinese medicine, royal jelly is considered an effective <em>Blood</em> <em>tonic, </em>meaning it can have a knock-on effect on your complexion due to its moistening properties.</p> <p>Extraordinary lengths are taken by the bees and beekeepers to make any bee-related products, and so if you are going to use royal jelly, please be respectful.</p> <p>I particularly like recommending the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200926084224/https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=https://www.arkopharma.com/&prev=search" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>ARKOPHARMA LABORATORIES royal organic jelly ampoules</em></a>, especially for my menopausal friends, as it can help to rebalance the hormones. Royal jelly is also a firm favourite of mine when the body, mind and spirit align because it can naturally make your skin glow. Along with regular traditional acupuncture treatment, royal jelly is also renowned for boosting your overall energy levels due to its Kidney strengthening properties.</p> <p><em>*There are certain instances where taking royal jelly is not advisable. If you have any bee allergies or other allergies, please discuss this topic with your doctor or traditional acupuncturist before using any bee-related products </em></p> <ol start="3"><li><strong>GREEN PEAR SMOOTHIE</strong></li></ol> <p>The fashion for smoothies keeps growing, but in Chinese medicine, they’re not necessarily suitable for everyone. You might be surprised to hear that many patients’ digestive functions don’t respond well to a deluge of raw fruit or vegetables in their smoothies or as part of a regular diet because it can create a <em>Qi</em> <em>deficiency</em>. So they’re usually best consumed once your digestive system is strong enough to withstand them.</p> <p>The ancient Chinese believed that the seasons, and the foods that we eat, can have a profound effect on human health, and so, therefore, we should try to live in harmony with them. If you want to look after your digestion, the critical point is to use seasonal fruit and avoid adding raw vegetables to your smoothies. For example, use a pear or an apple in the spring and stick to the beautiful rainbow of berried fruits in the summer.</p> <p>I have been making this green smoothie recipe for a while and adore it. Many friends used to wince at trying spirulina powder, but now they find the taste quite flavoursome. It takes only a few minutes to make and is packed full of the superfoods spirulina, chlorella and wheatgrass powder, which are alkalising and energising for your body <a href="https://amzn.to/3TPjfMx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">[4]</a>.</p> <p>The nutritional benefits of spirulina have been linked to all sorts of health benefits in Chinese medicine, from moistening the complexion when it’s dull or dry to increasing your energy levels.<em> </em>I also think it’s a good idea for women to have spirulina before, during or after the menstrual cycle and throughout menopause because it can enrich the <em>Blood</em> at a time when the body is biologically in need of extra nutrient support.</p> <p>I firmly believe in the adage ‘less is more, so I usually advise patients to drink the smoothie no more than three times a week. It’s also inadvisable to consume it as a meal replacement.</p> <p>I hope my smoothie becomes your firm favourite and that you enjoy its delicious flavour!</p> <p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p> <p>1 tablespoon of Naturya blends of organic greens</p> <p>1 ripe conference pear or 1 organic apple</p> <p>½ teaspoon metalorganic vanilla powder or 1 teaspoon organic vanilla bean paste</p> <p>1 long glass of organic rice milk or goat’s milk</p> <p><strong>Method: </strong></p> <p>Blend all the ingredients until milky and pour into a long, elegant glass.</p> <p><strong>Helpful tip</strong>– I like to use either goat’s or organic rice milk because, in Chinese medicine they are less <em>Mucous</em> forming. Also, regular milk may not suit your constitution, as it can create lots of <em>Phlegm, </em>so you might want to try the quantity of half goat’s and rice milk. Another tip- if your pear is extra ripe, it seems to concentrate the sweetness so you may not need to add the vanilla powder.</p> <p><em>*Please discuss with your doctor if you are taking any blood-thinning medication or prescribed medicine before using the </em>Naturya <em>organic greens blends.</em></p> <ol start="4"><li><strong>WHITE TEA</strong></li></ol> <p>What’s so special about white tea? Research has shown that one benefit is its ability to produce antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in skin connective tissue. Another advantage is that it contains an effective herbal extract for preventing or reducing oxidative stress <a href="https://journal-inflammation.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1476-9255-8-27" target="_blank" rel="noopener">[5]</a>.</p> <p>White tea is often sourced from China, from immature tea leaves that are picked shortly before the buds have fully opened. Its name is taken from the silver fuzz covering the buds that turn white when the tea is dried. Immediately after harvesting, the leaves are steamed and dried to preserve the high antioxidant content <a href="http://www.pacificcollege.edu/news/blog/2014/07/23/health-benefits-white-tea" target="_blank" rel="noopener">[6]</a>. The result is a beautiful tea with a delicate flavour.</p> <p>If you’re like me and dislike strong builders’ tea, white tea might be up your street. I find it’s light, refreshing flavour makes a beautiful delicate cuppa!</p> <p><strong>Here’s how to make a cup:</strong></p> <ol><li>Always use fresh water in the kettle.</li><li>Boil the water to 80 degrees C (you can get variable temperature kettles that are good for green, white and herbal teas).</li><li>Put 2 teaspoons of the white tea buds into a teapot of boiling water.</li><li>Steep the tea anywhere from 5-10 minutes (the exact time will depend on your preference). The smaller buds generally infuse more quicker than the larger ones.</li><li>You may wish to taste the tea at the 5-minute mark.</li><li>When brewed, white tea can range in colour from pale yellow to a light orange shade.</li></ol> <p><strong>Helpful tip</strong>– I also like to use organic white tea in teabag form for general convenience. To add an extra twist, I pour in some unhomogenised organic milk with a quarter of a teaspoon of raw organic honey, which may sound sacrilegious, but its delicate, caramel flavour tastes rather good.</p> <p><strong>5. TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE</strong></p> <p>Traditional acupuncture can make a difference to your skin, especially if you make other lifestyle changes. I’m also of the opinion that treating someone as a whole person is far better than just addressing symptoms that are likely to come back again if you’ve not tackled the root cause of a complaint.</p> <p>Let me give you an example of a friend I helped with a skin problem.</p> <p><strong>Mini Case study: skin</strong></p> <p>I was asked for help by a lady in her mid-50s experiencing anxiety, palpitations, insomnia and a red, angry rash covering both of her shins. She also had a very dull, pale complexion.</p> <p>We discovered that her anxiety was connected to work, where she was having difficulties. She also had a poor diet, eating very few fresh seasonal vegetables or fruit, and often skipped breakfast. To add to their poor lifestyle habits, she drank two glasses of wine a night.</p> <p>So, we took baby steps, and after several acupuncture treatments, her anxiety started to disappear. Some fundamental changes were made to her diet by introducing breakfast and eating more seasonal fruit and vegetables. Another habit we changed was to gradually reduce her alcohol intake.</p> <p>My acupuncture treatments primarily focused on treating her as a whole person and, secondarily, her other symptoms that were not isolated. When one system or organ is struggling, other organs or systems are likely also struggling. My training taught me that symptoms are nearly always regarded as the branch of the root cause of a complaint <a href="https://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?q=N.+(2009).+Acupuncture+in+dermatology:+an+historical+perspective.+International+Journal+of+Dermatology,+48(6),+pp.648-652.&h" target="_blank" rel="noopener">[7]</a> (Although there are some exceptions to this rule that are way too complex for the breadth of this blog).</p> <p>And slowly but surely, the lady began to feel like her old self again. The nasty rash on both shins disappeared, and she rekindled her natural glow.</p> <p>This short case study has given you some food for thought in terms of how traditional acupuncture can help to enhance your overall health and well-being and improve your skin from the inside out. It’s easy to get caught up in striving for perfection in every aspect of your wedding, but I was determined to enjoy every part of it. You all know by now, anything hair, makeup or beauty related gets me so excited, and so when it came to my wedding beauty routine, I wanted to make sure I had it DOWN!!</p> <p><strong>Skin – </strong></p> <p>Starting with my skin, I made sure to stick to my strict skincare regime that I know works for me. I have suffered from acne on and off for the last ten years, and stress is generally one of my triggers and hormones. I had been attending Monica Tolan’s salon in Malahide, having regular facials and sticking to Environ skincare. I knew this worked for my skin, so I decided to get serious about it and increase my facials coming up to the big day. I also began a course in micro-needling, which gave me results I couldn’t have even imagined. To have needling done, you had to clear the active acne, so I only started them close to our wedding date. I had 3/4 sessions of this done, and while it is painful to go through, the results were incredible. I have bad acne scarring on my cheeks, which has dramatically reduced since the needling. Suppose you’d like me to go into more depth on micro-needling and how I found it, please let me know. I did my best not to get lazy in the evenings and did my whole skincare routine day and night (well, almost every day!!)</p> <p>I also decided to limit my takeaway consumption, which drastically affected my skin and managed my breakouts. I had 4/5 takeaways a week (I know, not good at all), but once I cut down on them and began eating healthier, it showed in my skin, hair and nails, and energy levels. Also, WATER, WATER, WATER….your skin will thank you for it.</p> <p><strong>Hair – </strong></p> <p>I kept up my regular hair routine, going to Ceira Lambert’s salon in Shankill every few weeks for my colour and extensions. My hair had been very grey/ashy, and I wanted to tone this down slightly for the big day as I felt a more timeless blonde colour would work best for our pictures. They are incredible at minding my fragile hair. My two gorgeous sisters were blessed with big manes of hair, and I got about three strands of wispy fluff!! The stylists always ensure they don’t damage my hair with the extension by applying half bonds on weak areas and not overprocessing my hair. On the day, I had my hair tonged with the Hot Tools 32″ curl bar by the Ceira Lambert team, and it lasted so well. Even though my hair is shorter now, the curl bar still works a treat.</p> <p>In terms of products, I usually stick to Kevin Murphy or Pureology as they are sulphate free so that they won’t damage my extensions. The Blonde Angel range from Kevin Murphy is excellent for getting longer out of your salon colour and keeps any yellow tones at bay. Check them out HERE.</p> <p><strong>Nails – </strong></p> <p>Wedding nails were something I had thought about for a while, and I had lots of pictures saved on my phone from Pinterest and Instagram of what I wanted. I always go for a nude or natural colour on my nails, so I knew that wouldn’t change. I decided to get them shorted, though, and rounded, too, as I felt that this was timeless, and I won’t look back in years to come and say, “What was I thinking?!”</p> <p>I opted for the acrylic nails, which seem to last better on me. I had them done in my usual spot – Nails Inc @ The Brown Thomas Beauty Lounge in Dublin. The colour they applied was Nails inc. Back To Life.</p> <p><strong>Tan – </strong></p> <p>I wear false tan almost every day of my life (thanks to my pasty Irish complexion!), so I knew what I would do for my wedding day. My biggest challenge was finding someone who was the best of the best at spray tans. I always apply my tan with a mitt at home, but I wanted to have a professional spray tan done for my wedding. I asked you guys on Instagram, and within a few minutes, the same name kept popping up – Olivia from Allure salon in Drumcondra. Olivia owns Allure, so I got in touch with her and had some trials done. All I can say is that I have NEVER had a spray tan like hers…the blend around your hands, wrists, feet and knees is perfection and so natural looking. I could see why she had been nominated for so many awards. I couldn’t recommend her enough if you are based in Dublin and looking for the best spray tan of your life. She used Catwalk HQ professional spray tan on me, and I was thrilled with how it turned out. You can contact Olivia HERE</p> <p><strong>Makeup –. </strong></p> <p>A question I was asked so many times – would I be doing my makeup for my wedding day? That answer was a definite NO! I wanted to feel pampered in the morning and not panic so my nerves would get better, and I would have a lopsided liner!! There was only one lady that I had in mind, and that’s Michelle Regazzoli Stone, better known as MRS Makeup. She has done my makeup for shoots and red carpet events, so I knew she was super talented and understood exactly what I liked. I trusted her that I didn’t even have a makeup trial with her. I just let her do her thing in the morning, and of course, she nailed it. I was blown away by my makeup, and it was photographed beautifully, not to mention last through all the tears. Nowadays, the drink is produced in traditional breweries by AG Barr.</p> <p>Generations have fallen in love with its distinctive taste and it has over the years built up a cult following across the globe.</p> <p>The brand was originally launched as ‘Scotland’s other National Drink’ and it is deeply rooted in Scottish culture.</p> <p>Its unique tangy flavor differentiates it from other carbonated drinks available on the market. It also coats brow hairs with colour, rather than changing the natural brow hair colour from within like regular tints do. This gentle process makes henna brows well suited to sensitive skin, while the easy-to-control dye can match almost any skin tone and brow shape.</p> <p>Henna brows have undeniably become one of the biggest trends in the beauty industry over the last few years. This semi-permanent eyebrow beauty treatment is perfect for today’s client – it’s natural, painless and long-lasting alternative to traditional tinting.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="how-long-do-henna-brows-last">HOW LONG DO HENNA Brows LAST?</h2> <p>So Henna eyebrows can last from 2 – 4 weeks, though this does depend on skin type and how well the aftercare process is followed. Brow shades can be personalised by mixing dyes together and adjusting how long the henna is left on the brows for. </p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="why-so-henna">WHY SO HENNA?</h2> <p>So Henna has been formulated to be 100% vegan and free from ammonia, lead and oxidants. More importantly, So Henna also contains Lawsone dye (henna), which stimulates hair growth.</p> <p>So Henna ingredients follow import regulations and contain a low PPD percentage.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="henna-brows-process"><strong>Henna brows process</strong></h2> <p>If you’ve ever had your brows tinted and waxed, then you’ll have an idea of how the process works. The first step for henna brows is all about cleansing and removing any oils from the skin. This is to ensure that your skin is super clean and ready for the henna.</p> <p>After your eyebrows are clean, they are then measured and shaped which also allows you to have some input before the process goes ahead. The next step is crucial and can make or break your eyebrow shape. A white paste is applied around your eyebrows that acts as a barrier and is what gives you the sharp, defined lines of your new eyebrow shape.</p> <p>After the paste has been applied, it’s time for the henna! This part of the process is delicate and very carefully applied. The henna has to be pushed onto the skin to ensure it sits in between the hairs to give you that fuller effect. Once it is evenly applied and super sharp, it will sit there for about 10 – 20 minutes. When it’s done developing, it is wiped away and your eyebrows are then waxed, threaded, or tweezed to complete a high definition effect. </p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-s-the-difference-between-regular-tint-and-henna-brows"><strong>What’s the difference between regular tint and henna brows?</strong></h2> <p>Regular eyebrow tint will only tint the hairs and lasts anywhere from 2-4 weeks. It is great for those that are happy with their eyebrow shape and don’t require any other shaping.</p> <p>Henna brows produce longer lasting results. Lasting up to 6 weeks on the hairs, it also tints the skin which is great if you would like a better shape to your brows. It fills in anywhere you have gaps. </p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="do-i-need-a-patch-test"><strong>Do I need a patch test?</strong></h2> <p>Yes, absolutely! The patch test needs to be done at least 48 hours before treatment, but the good news is, it can be posted to your house so you can do it in the comfort of your own home.</p> <p>If you’d like to know anything else about henna brows, get in touch or schedule a patch test and I’ll be more than happy to answer any of your questions.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="guide-to-henna-brow">GUIDE TO HENNA BROW</h2> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="step-1-pre-treatment-cleansing-scrubbing">STEP 1: PRE-TREATMENT: CLEANSING & SCRUBBING </h3> <p>Using Foam Cleanser and a soft brush, spread the foam across the eyebrows and cleanse them gently, making sure there is no make-up on or around the brows. Wipe away the excess foam cleanser from the eyebrows with a damp cotton pad and pat dry with a tissue.</p> <p>Using a gentle face scrub, remove the layer of dead skin (dry, white flakes) to prepare the skin for the tint. Remove leftover scrub with a wet cotton pad.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="step-2-colour-selection-and-mixing">STEP 2: COLOUR SELECTION AND MIXING</h3> <p>Choose the ideal shade to suit your client – remember that you can mix shades to personalise the colour for each individual client. Once you have both agreed on a suitable shade, mix distilled water and So Henna powder in a 1:1 ratio. The amount of the powder depends on the shade you want to achieve – the more powder, the more intense the colour will be.</p> <p>Mix it thoroughly to create an even consistency – the perfect ready-to-use henna brow consistency ranges from honey-like in texture to whipped cream.</p> <p>A thicker consistency creates a darker look and longer lasting colour, whereas a thinner consistency looks lighter and may fade more quickly depending on the client’s skin type.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="step-3-application">STEP 3: APPLICATION</h3> <p>Using So Henna angled brush number 3, apply a thick, even layer across the brows.Press/tap the henna tint into the eyebrow until all skin is covered, starting from the tale of the eyebrow. To achieve straight even lines, or correct small mistakes, use a cotton swab/correction stick. </p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="step-4-drying">STEP 4: DRYING</h3> <p>Fixing time is between 10-20 minutes from application depending on the desired staining results. </p> <p>A light stain can be achieved within minutes, but the longer the paste is left on the skin, the darker and longer lasting the stain will be, therefore ensure you know exactly the look your client wishes to achieve and leave the tint to develop accordingly.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="step-5-removal"> STEP 5: REMOVAL</h3> <p>Once the waiting time is up, remove the henna starting from the head of the eyebrow. You can remove henna eyebrow tint with a cotton pad soaked in water or So Henna oil. Remember to do it gently without rubbing the skin too much.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="aftercare">AFTERCARE</h3> <p>Now that the treatment is complete, give your client the following instructions to help maintain their beautiful new eyebrow look. For 24hrs after treatment, clients should be advised to avoid:</p> <ol><li>Touching the area (as the pores are open and it may lead to infection)</li><li>Using saunas, hot tubs or steam rooms</li><li>Swimming, perfumed products, and sun beds</li><li>Applying makeup to the area, as this may cause infection – to cover any redness as a result of hair removal, suggest mineral powder rather than heavy liquid concealers.</li></ol> <p>Being a brow artist is much more than just tinting and waxing eyebrows – providing a professional quality treatment is the key to a happy and returning client. People with very little brow hair would not see as long lasting results</p> <p>I have gotten henna brows myself and I have combination skin. My forehead gets shiny but I wouldn’t say I’m oily. I’m on day 6 and the stain from the henna is still going strong! </p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="faqs">FAQs</h2> <h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="is-henna-a-natural-alternative">IS HENNA A NATURAL ALTERNATIVE?</h4> <p>The henna plant is native to the middle east and has been used since ancient times to dye the skin and hair. Although henna itself is a natural dye, many henna dyes on the market do include synthetic ingredients similar to those used in traditional eyebrow tints. This isn’t always clearly labelled on the packaging, meaning you’re not always getting what you pay for when you opt for a ‘natural’ alternative.</p> <h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="is-henna-free-from-ppd">IS HENNA FREE FROM PPD?</h4> <p>Para-phenylenediamine, more commonly known as PPD, is used in hair and eyebrow dyes to colour the hair. Although many people can safely use these dyes, some people can experience allergic reactions to PPD.</p> <p>Many people opt for henna as a PPD-free alternative, but it’s important to note that some henna dyes do actually contain PPD. Black henna is the term commonly used for henna that contains PPD or other members of the PPD family. Other members of the PPD family may have different names but will carry the same risks, so always be sure to be patch tested even if the tint is labelled as PPD-free.</p> <p>Even if the product is labelled as natural, you should also check with your technician or the brand for clarification on the ingredients list if you have experienced a reaction to PPD.</p> <h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="which-is-safer-eyebrow-tint-or-henna">WHICH IS SAFER: EYEBROW TINT OR HENNA?</h4> <p>As long as your technician has carried out a patch test and asked the correct questions to determine if you’re suitable for the treatment, both versions of eyebrow tinting are perfectly safe.</p> <p>It is worth noting that traditional eyebrow tints are regulated by EU law, meaning that the levels of synthetic dyeing agents used are controlled and kept at safe levels. However, some black henna products that claim to be ‘PPD-free’ pose a risk of not being controlled and could potentially increase the risk of a reaction.</p> <h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="can-i-have-a-reaction-to-henna-brow-dye">CAN I HAVE A REACTION TO HENNA BROW DYE?</h4> <p>If you opt for PPD-free henna, there is still a chance of a reaction due to lawsone, the orange-red pigment found in the leaves of the henna plant. It’s undeniably the single most difficult makeup item to choose – get it wrong, and it does just about the complete of opposite of what we want it to do (ie. make our skin look better!) How many times have you thought it looked fine in the department store when someone else applied it on to you only to find it look nothing like that the next day when you were left to your own devices? And how many times did a quick swatch on the back of your hand under the fluorescent lighting of Boots mean the next day you realised you were about 7 shades out? Having spent many hours listening to the foundation woes of literally thousands of women both whilst I was a Makeup Counter gal and as a freelancer I thought I’d attempt to help you by offering you my thoughts on improving the foundation purchasing process.</p> <p>Ok, so let’s begin at the beginning ~</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="1-establish-and-subsequently-articulate-what-it-is-you-actually-want">1. <em>Establish and subsequently articulate what it is you actually want.</em></h2> <p>This is the part that involves a little thinking before you beginning shopping – deciding what it is you want. Yes, a foundation, but there are about 50 million of them out there, and every single one is different. The question I get asked the most is “What foundation is best?”. I can’t ever answer this, because it depends entirely on your personal preference. You’ll need to know three things –</p> <p><strong>Coverage</strong> – Do you want light, medium or full? (And for those of you that don’t know, coverage is how much a foundation will cover your skin – so a tinted moisturiser will offer a light coverage, because it’s sheer and you’ll still see your own skin through it. A full coverage foundation will be usually heavier but will cover skin entirely, leaving very little of your own skin on show) Do you like to see your own skin, freckles and all? Or cover absolutely everything up for a mega flawless look? Or something in between the two (medium coverage)?</p> <p><strong>Finish</strong> – Do you like Dewy or Matte? Something with a sheen or a flatter finish? If your skin is dry or dull you may prefer something a little dewier as matte has a tendency to show dry patches and larger pores a little more. If your skin is oily you might like to go for a more matte, oil free foundation to keep shine at bay, and to not add any more glow to your already glow prone skin!</p> <p><strong>Formula </strong> – Do you like a cream (thicker in texture), a fluid (runnier in texture) or a powder? A cream compact or cream in a bottle or tube? A pressed powder or a loose powder (loose foundation would usually be mineral based)?</p> <p>I promise you, if you can walk up to your chosen makeup counter armed with these three pieces of information it will cut your foundation shopping time (and purchase errors) in half. If you walk up to a sales assistant and ask for a foundation without being able to answer any of these questions, you will walk away with what she suggests and not necessarily what you wanted – which may, as it turns out, be bang on the money, but which may not. If you are the kind of girl who enjoys trying the latest innovations and formulas and has no strong preference, and wardrobes your foundation in the same way you do your shoes. then fine – keep your full coverage formulas for winter, bad skin days or nights out, and your glowy foundations for holiday or similar, no problem. But if you just want one product, which you can rely on no matter what then make sure you know what you are in the market for. Being able to visit three counters to try a full coverage matte compact powder will give you a much simpler choice than standing amongst the masses of products feeling full of despair when you don’t even know where to start!</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="2-do-a-little-research"><em>2. Do a little research</em></h2> <p>The internet is a wealth of information now, teeming with reviews, vlogs and blogs from industry experts, makeup artists, bloggers and beauty editors who will all offer you opinions on products. I’d suggest maybe attempting a shortlist of a few products in order to again, narrow down the options and make life easier. When I begin to choose new products for my kit (and for myself) I tend to fold down pages in magazines, or take screengrabs on my phone of potentially interesting products which I can take a look at when I’m next shopping or google when I get a little more time.</p> <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><a href="http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/foundation-1.jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img alt='foundation-1-740x987-7868159' src='https://emmysbeautycave.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/foundation-1-740x987-7868159.jpg' alt="foundation 1" class="wp-image-56443"/></a></figure></div> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="3-try-not-to-make-impulse-purchases"><em>3. Try not to make impulse purchases</em></h2> <p>Now I know what it’s like – once you’ve decided you need a foundation, you just want to get in, buy it and get out. However, I’d strongly suggest taking time and care over this to get it right. At most makeup counters you will be able to get a colour match at the least, to try on the foundation (if you can bear to sit makeup free in public – I know it fills some women with horror, although I promise you, no one else is really looking!) and often a sample to take home. Ask for advice with colour matching – when you stand on a counter for 35 plus hours a week you do get to the point where you can tell what colour someone is upon first seeing them (well, I could anyway!) but do check your match in daylight as well as synthetic light, and do wear it for a few hours to check it doesn’t oxidise (become darker over time upon contact with oxygen). Remember too – foundation isn’t there to add colour to the skin, it’s just there to cover imperfections and even skin tone. It should be skin coloured – as in the most exact match you can get to your own skin tone. Blusher and bronzer add colour, not base, or expect tide mark central. Just saying.</p> <p>And when it comes to samples – I promise makeup counter sales assistants don’t really mind giving you a sample of something you are actually interested in buying – but yelling “got any samples of ANYTHING?” at them as you run past to the next counter is probably going to be received with a little less enthusiasm (and that happens All. The. Time.) Obviously these things aren’t possible with a self selection product from a drugstore, so in this instance I’d say use a tester to pop a couple of stripes on your jawline then take a look in daylight to test colours. Again, check reviews, and ensure you check with your own skin type in mind.</p> <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><a href="http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/foundation-3.jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img alt='foundation-3-740x555-6298430' src='https://emmysbeautycave.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/foundation-3-740x555-6298430.jpg' alt="foundation 3" class="wp-image-56444"/></a></figure></div> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="4-know-how-to-apply-the-product"><em>4. Know how to apply the product.</em></h2> <p>Ask the sales advisors recommendations on primers, finishing products and application techniques – these elements make all the difference to wear and longevity, and are probably the reason why it looks different when you do it to when you’ve had it applied for you. If you’ve been cleansed, primed, and then had foundation buffed onto your skin for 15 minutes with a great quality brush, then been dusted with a blush, bronzer and finishing powder, it’s unlikely that three and half minutes of slapping foundation on with reckless abandon before you run out of the door to work the next morning is going to look the same! If you want mega quick and easy using only fingers that’s fine, but don’t expect Kim K levels of perfection in a heartbeat because it’s not going to happen I’m afraid (unless there’s something I don’t know about!) and don’t expect it to last impeccably through a 17 hour day – it’s not a miracle I’m afraid! The more care in application – the better it will last.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="5-don-t-give-up-on-a-product-after-a-week">5. <em>Don’t give up on a product after a week…..</em></h2> <p>That initial burst of enthusiasm, that new “I’ve found it and it looks amazing” feeling- well, it may not last. Often people find after 6 months to a year, they might be ready to try something new, feeling the once holy grail foundation just isn’t cutting it anymore. By all means change if you wish, but remember we tend to lapse into bad habits after a while – when we first buy a new product, we apply primer, carefully apply a small amount using our brand new brush, we take time on our new routine, just as our new department store BFF has advised us. 3 months in and we are back to slapping it on with fingers and then wondering why it doesn’t look the same. When you go to rebuy, go through a little application refresh if you like – make sure you are still putting it on in the way that is advised and you may find the love returns!</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="6-but-if-you-need-to-change-do">6. …<em>But if you need to change, do</em></h2> <p>Remember you may very well need a summer colour and a winter colour – your tan won’t last all year long (and if it does, what’s your secret?) and you may find in a cold snap your skin becomes drier, needing maybe a more hydrating formula. If in doubt, ask for a colour match and chat about your needs again to see if what you have still best suits.</p> <p>So there you have it, 7 years of foundation related knowledge condensed into one post, which I hope helps you. And to finish, because I know someone will ask, I wear the following (but clearly not all at once!) – Estee Lauder Double Wear, Charlotte Tilbury and Lancôme Teint Idole 24h Ultra for full coverage work days, skin disaster days and nights out, and Bare Minerals Original Foundation or Complexion Rescue for days off. As someone who does it on clients at least twenty times a week, every week, I promise you you can do it – you just need to know what lashes to choose, how to apply them and how to fit them to your eye shape. Other than seasoned lash wearers, most women I talk to try once or twice, get in a complete muddle and then give up forever more. I put them on almost all my freelance clients for wedding, from Mums to brides, to day makeup, to evening makeups and they can look natural and appropriate for all occasions.</p> <figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://web.archive.org/web/20210128125100im_/http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/eyeball-740x447.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-79049"/></figure> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="1-go-fluffy"><strong>1. Go Fluffy</strong></h2> <p>If you want hardcore, full TOWIE glam and you love big ol’ spiky lashes, be my guest – this is just not my personal taste, but there is nothing wrong with it! If you like soft and natural, ensure you pick fluffy, feathered, tapered lashes with that aren’t too dense. Not only will massive thick lashes be a b*tch to apply because they tend to sit on a much stiffer seam / band which won’t bend to the shape of your eye as easily, too thick, dark and long will often make your eyes look darker and smaller, and “close” them up, rather than opening them. They make look less inspiring in the pack (and I know the tendency is, ooh I never wear lashes, let’s go for it!) but I promise, if you don’t usually wear them, shorter and sparser will be more than enough. I tend to like lashes where the ends are longer to give length and uplift to the eyes, but if you prefer a rounder, less cat-eye shape, go for rounded (i.e. longest lash is in the middle not on the end).</p> <p><strong>My Faves</strong> – Ardell Demi Wispies, Kiss Ritzy, Kiss Blooming Lashes, Ardell 110, (pretty much anything with Wispie in the title is a good bet!) Individual Cluster/Flare Lashes (I usually use short, occasionally medium – never long), Trio clusters are super easy to apply on yourself too.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="2-go-for-volume-over-length"><strong>2. Go for volume over length</strong></h2> <p>Generally, I match the length of the lashes to the client’s lashes as all I really want to do is add volume, not loads of length. Particularly if you have small or hooded eyes, I find really long lashes just draw attention to that and make eyes look more closed whereas a teeny bit of length but plenty of density really opens the eyes up. I also like lashes to look like they aren’t false – really long ones never look super natural as noone’s lashes are up to their eyebrows!</p> <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" src="https://web.archive.org/web/20210128125100im_/http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/SAM_6212-740x493.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-79046"/></figure></div> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="3-measure-and-trim"><strong>3. Measure and trim!</strong></h2> <p>Unless you have huge eyes (lucky you), it is unlikely strip lashes will fit you without trimming as they are pretty long (length ways). They shouldn’t be hanging over the edge of your natural lash – not only does this look clumsy but it also makes your eyes look sleepy and downturned instead of wide and awake. For strips I always lay the lash on first before glueing and see how much I want to remove to ensure it fits. Always trim the longest end (outer corner) – you don’t want to remove the graduation at the other end as that gives a natural taper like your own lashes. Depending on the type of lash, they do not have to sit exactly where the very first lash starts – if your lashes are teeny there there won’t be much hair to support them and for the glue to grab onto. I usually start where the lashes thicken up, although sometimes for a super easy natural look, I just cut to a half lash and use on the outer half of the eye only (good to do if you struggle – much easier!)</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="4-go-for-human-hair"><strong>4. Go for human hair</strong></h2> <p>I do usually work with human hair lashes – they are so much more comfortable and the hair is much finer than synthetic. I don’t mind Mink, but again I don’t find them as easy to apply as real hair plus they are expensive.<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" src="https://web.archive.org/web/20210128125100im_/http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/lash-740x493.jpg" alt="" width="740" height="493" srcset="https://web.archive.org/web/20210128125100im_/http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/lash-740x493.jpg 740w, http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/lash-600x400.jpg 600w"></p> <p>This is as much glue as you need!</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="5-use-a-decent-glue"><strong>5. Use a decent glue</strong></h2> <p>I wouldn’t want to live in a world without Duo – I have clear but prefer black as it’s absolutely seamless, especially on individual flares. It always doesn’t dry instantly, so you can push the lash around if you need to to get it in the right place before it sets. This is latex based, but if you’re allergic there is a latex free. Pop a tiny bit on the back of your hand, wait until it’s slightly tacky, then using tweezers run the seam through the glue – you only need the tiniest bit. If you stick your eyes together it’s because you are applying far too much glue! Use tweezers to drop onto the lashes with your eyes open – just look down into the mirror as it will be easier to see the base of your lashes.</p> <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" src="https://web.archive.org/web/20210128125100im_/http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/SAM_6215-740x382.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-79050"/></figure></div> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="6-apply-lashes-after-makeup"><strong>6. Apply lashes after makeup </strong></h2> <p>This is a preference, and not everyone does this, but I’ve always applied lashes after all top lid makeup is on, including mascara. I find if I put mascara on after lashes it tends to look clumpy and heavy, but some people put on before and after to ‘blend’ lashes with your own lashes. Regardless, don’t put them on first before eyeshadow etc, as you’ll end up with loads of fall out and makeup sitting on the eyelashes (pet peeve!).</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="7-stick-to-the-lashes-not-the-skin"><strong>7. Stick to the lashes, not the skin</strong></h2> <p>A simple one, but what a revelation! This will make them feel much more comfortable, look more natural and avoids a gap between your lashes and false lashes.</p> <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img decoding="async" src="https://web.archive.org/web/20210128125100im_/http://www.soyouregettingmarried.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/image6-1-740x493.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-79051"/></figure></div> <p>I know that sounds like a lot, but honestly – this corrects most mistakes people make which make them difficult, uncomfortable, likely to fall off or too heavy looking. How exactly do you know how to coordinate all your suppliers & wedding party – hair, makeup, photographer, videographer, bridesmaids, Mums et al so you have a stress free, relaxed morning? </p> <p>As we have only been to a few wedding mornings as a guest, we thought we ask an expert, so we spoke to the amazingly talented Nicola M from <a href="http://honeyandviolet.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Honey & Violet</a> about her experience. </p> <p>Having been at a lot of prep as a Wedding makeup artist, here’s my top tips for a successful smooth running morning. You’ve likely never had a wedding morning before, so you rely on your suppliers to guide you {and so they should – scheduling is part of the job!} but it would be nice to get an idea in advance yes? Well, now comes the time to impart the wisdom of having been present for over 350 wedding mornings – my guide on how to boss your wedding prep to have the easiest, most stress free morning possible. Most of this is only applicable if you are having professional Hair and Makeup, as if you are doing your own some of this won’t be applicable, but it’s still worth a read through as some of this will be relevant to you.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="1-be-prepared-to-start-early"><strong><em>1. Be prepared to start early</em></strong></h2> <p>So, you have 6 bridesmaids, you and Mum to get ready and a 12pm ceremony which is 30 minutes away from your prep location? In case you hadn’t figured it out, you are probably going to have to start hair and makeup pretty early! 50% of my clients are fully prepared when I tell them it’s to be a 6am start {for example}, however, for some there is a sharp intake of breath! The earlier the ceremony and the more people you have to hair/makeup, the earlier you’ll need to start. My average start time is around 7/7.30am for weddings, and my average party size is around 4/5 people for weddings but this does vary with each wedding I do.</p> <p>My advice – if you have a lot of Bridesmaids, go for a later ceremony – it really does make for a much more stress free, less complicated morning. If you don’t want an early start, you can ask your MUA or hair if they can bring a second assistant (some will, some won’t), or go for a smaller party size. Make sure you also check if there is a certain time you are allowed into a venue if you are getting ready there but not staying – sometimes if there’s another wedding the day before it might not be until 9 or 10am {this little bombshell 4 weeks before the day causes me all kinds of problems!}</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="2-leave-buffer-time"><strong><em>2. Leave buffer time</em></strong></h2> <p>I cannot stress enough how important it is to factor in some “buffer time”. If you assume 30 minutes to get dressed for example (we will come to that later) and you don’t factor in some extra time, if the morning runs over you will be left stressed and rushed in putting it on, which is not conducive to feeling your best. If you factor in an hour and your morning runs over, you have much more breathing space. Make sure your suppliers are generous with their timings too – it works pretty much across the board that an extra 10 minutes here or there (particular for travelling, driving from venue to church etc) really can make all the difference to the day.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="3-start-dressing-an-hour-before-you-need-to-leave-the-ceremony"><em><strong>3. Start dressing an hour before you need to leave / the ceremony</strong></em></h2> <p>“My dress has a zip – it only takes me ten minutes!” If I had a £1 for every time I’d heard this at a trial, I could’ve bought a Mulberry Bayswater by now. Maybe (MAYBE *sceptically*) in the Bridal Boutique it took ten minutes to get you into your wedding dress – but you didn’t have a veil to put on, a Mum whose hands were shaking as she used a crochet hook to fasten a million buttons rather than a seasoned expert, a hoop to step into, shoes to try to fasten whilst in a dress you can barely bend down in, a photographer staging a perfume spraying shot, a Dad to reveal yourself to, 4 bridesmaids who suddenly seem incapable of finding their dress, shoes, jewellery etc, Bouquets which need drying…..trust me, the list goes on. Even if each one of those extra things takes 3 minutes – factor in 10 of them and there’s half an hour.</p> <p>The hour before you leave/the ceremony? Welcome to “Power Hour” (as one hairstylist I worked with referred to it as). It flies by in a heart beat – the whole morning will but no time more so than the last bit! All anyone ever says toward the end of prep is “where did the morning go?” I promise, promise, promise you will not be left sitting around dressed waiting for the ceremony (as everyone worries they will) if you start dressing an hour before – I always aim to finish makeup an hour before, and this always works.</p> <p>Plus remember – if you are at a venue, the registrar comes to see you up to 20 mins before the ceremony – do you want this to be whilst you are in your underwear, stressing about not being ready, or when you are fully dressed, had a glass of champagne with the girls, had photos with Mum and are in control of the morning and your emotions? The choice is yours!</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="4-speak-to-your-photographer"><strong><em>4. Speak to your photographer</em></strong></h2> <p>Sometimes you might want to get dressed even earlier than an hour before- that’s usually if you are getting ready somewhere different from where you ceremony will be. Photographers will sometimes leave way before you do to arrive at the church / venue to capture your guests arriving, so if you want a getting into your dress shot, or any group shots, or Dad seeing you ready, you’ll need this to be before they leave you to head to the ceremony. This is usually not an issue if everything is in one place, but if you are going to Church/changing location, make sure you check.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="5-bride-never-last-for-hair-or-makeup"><strong><em>5. Bride – never last for Hair or Makeup</em></strong></h2> <p>I made this mistake in my early days – I allowed brides to tell me that they should be last to ensure their makeup is as fresh as possible. This is all fine in theory, but the longer the morning runs on the more time becomes precious and the narrower the buffer time gets. Obviously you want everyone else to look gorgeous, but you never want your hair or makeup stylists to feel rushed with your makeup or hair – you are, of course, the most important that day! I’d always rather have more than enough time to do the best job I possibly can – the more stretched you are the less you feel you can do that. If the Bride is third last for hair, and second last for makeup, this gives you breathing space – plus a lot of suppliers arrive later in the morning (flowers, photographer) so it can be hard to keep a bride sitting still as things start to reach a crescendo of excitement!</p> <p>Make sure as well whoever plans on dressing you {it’s definitely at least a two woman job} is ready and dressed in good time when they get you ready too – it’s less of a rush for them and looks better in your pictures than their PJs!</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="6-plan-plan-plan"><strong><em>6. Plan, Plan, Plan!</em></strong></h2> <p>Make sure you having timings from all of your suppliers. Don’t accept a hairstylist telling you they’ll “be with you around XX o’clock” with no plan or schedule – make sure everyone that morning knows where they need to be, and whats happening to them at what time. I always make a schedule with the bride at the trial, and where necessary I liase with her other suppliers to ensure her morning is planned, I have enough time to do my job properly and efficiently, and I’m working around and alongside her Hairstylist.</p> <p>The amount of time a hair or makeup artist takes per person may vary greatly, so I can only speak for myself and how I work. I arrive 15 minutes before start to set up and then allow in total around 50 mins per person, and an hour and 15 for the bride, plus 10 minutes buffer times between each client for brush cleaning, getting bums on makeup chairs, etc. This also allows time when the Bride wants to quickly see her florist, greet her photographer, give Maids their presents etc. As I’ve said, I finish an hour before she either leaves the house, or before the ceremony to allow plenty of time to get dressed.</p> <p><strong>The more you plan in advance, however arduous it may be, the more you can sit down, relax and let it all unfold on the morning. </strong></p> <p>Thank you to Nic for speaking with us. Great for a pre wedding routine, or anyone 30 plus (once natural collagen levels begin to drop) this contains Marine Collagen, soy isoflavones, vitamins C and E, Hyaluronic Acid and lycopene. I did have the beautiful Rose Gold last year, but I dropped it (I eventually drop and break most things *sad face*) and broke it, so I was long overdue a replacement. I’ve been popping it on eyelids, cheekbones, cupids bow, brow bones – pretty much everywhere I can! The quality & packaging of the Artis brush is outstanding – it feels so sturdy and well made, which is obviously reflected in the price. If you aren’t a brush connoisseur, are on a budget or you just want to get a feel for this type of brush before you invest in Artis, the Iconic London are an excellent alternative, although at the price they are, are obviously not of the same quality of the Artis. I’m enjoying trying the face brushes, but whether I would ever use anything like this for eyeshadow or liner I don’t know – it’s something I’m not sure I can see working for me but if you’ve used these let me know!</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="nars-lipgloss"><strong>Nars Lipgloss</strong></h2> <p>Rather late to the party, but I’ve discovered Nars glosses this month and I’m hooked! I’ve been using them a lot on my clients, as they are glossy without being sticky, aren’t fragranced at all (I hate overly perfumed gloss) – you barely know they are on- and give a full opaque colour without being too dense or heavy. So far I’ve bought Instant Crash, Dolce Vita (which is the perfect bridal deep-without-being-too-deep rose), Chelsea Girl and Vida Loca. You can use them under eyeshadow as a primer to increase wear and depth of colour, or wear alone as a single colour, or blend together either straight from the stick or with a brush. The colours are all wearable from rose gold through to smoky glittery black – perfect for an undone smoky eye. This illustrates them well, and there are swatches above.</p> <p>Have you tried any of these?
