27.

Get low airfare in the off season, May through October. You can even come over and back on a courier flight, any time and it's very cheap. Book your hotel in advance since the good hotels sometimes fill up quickly. You can always find a good "pension house", to accommodate you in the $35-$50 range. These will have private bath, cable TV, air conditioning and hot water most of the time. Travel by land since it is inexpensive. A ride across a large city like Cebu in an air conditioned taxi is about .40 US and the ride to most airports not much more than that. Most airports are close into town. Jeepney fares, are Peso 6 - 7, about 10 cents us, the main mode of transportation for most people. They are colorful and fun except when it is raining, they do leak. If you want to tour around Manila in a much cheaper and faster long distances destinations, ride the LRT (Manila Light Rail Transit System) and the MRT (Manila Metro Rail Transit System) with fares ranging from 10-15 pesos (25-35 US cents) or a stored-value (multiple-use) ticket ranging from 100 to 200 pesos (2.50-2.80 US dollar). Eat out. American and other international foods are available. Fast food places from Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonald's to their own, Jollibee, abound and prices are cheaper than in almost every country in the world. Visit the nightlife. The Philippines is always voted as best in night life by the expats in Asia, and the prices are the best too. Go shopping. There are many local handicrafts to buy. Do not overlook the silver, handmade in Baguio City, in the north of the main island Luzon, famous for years. Baguio is one of the cooler places to go too, in the mountains, the City of Pines. Don't tip. Tipping is the exception, not the rule. If you want to be given preferred treatment, even without making a reservation, give a hefty tip immediately and discreetly. With that, you can almost expect to be treated like a king. Filipinos are avid practitioners of The Golden Rule. Get sporty. Golf and other entertainments abound. Japanese tourists fly from Japan stay two nights at a first class hotel, play two rounds of golf on the weekend, have a caddie and umbrella girl and a nice room and food for the price of one round of golf in Japan. 10 See the movies. First run movies are about 3.00USD or less and sometimes are in the cinemas before they hit larger countries(just make sure you get there early enough Philippine theaters have been known to have standing room only)

 63.

The flag of the Philippines (Photo: philippines flag icon. (with clipping path) image by Andrey Zyk from Fotolia.com ) Related Articles The Philippines comprise more than 7, 000 islands, 79 provinces and 117 charted cities. As a vacation destination, the archipelago-the second largest in the world-draws divers and surfers, beach-goers and eco-tourists, spa-seekers and chic shoppers alike. The abundant coral reefs surrounding the islands make the beaches and coastal areas prime destinations for divers. If you have an interest in the nation’s storied history, don’t miss the sights of the Philippines' ancient cities. Cebu Cebu is the name of both a city and an island-province. It is a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers, loved for its long white beaches, clear waters and lush mountainous interior. Cebu City provides all the amenities of a major metropolis within these stunning surroundings. Bustling beach resorts abound throughout the province, so if you’re looking for plentiful tourist services and amenities Cebu is an excellent choice. Luzon Province The most famous sites in Luzon Province are the Banaue Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Rice Terraces are a marvel of both engineering and nature, constructed by hand by the Ifugao people over 2, 000 years ago. Passed down through generations, the rice and vegetable paddies covering over 4, 000 square miles of mountainsides are maintained by the whole community and naturally irrigated by rain forests, streams and springs. Hiking trails allow tourists to explore the landscape. On a hot day, head for the Tappiya Waterfalls which provide a large pool for swimming. Vigan Vigan was at one time a royal city and the oldest Spanish settlement in the Philippines. Here you have the opportunity to sleep in World Heritage-listed stone houses in the historic heart of Vigan, some of which have been converted into inns. The city’s many 18th century colonial buildings are well-preserved. Stroll around the streets and plazas of Vigan and you’ll see architectural styles reminiscent of both China and Europe. Batangas The major attraction in Batangas is Taal Volcano, the smallest active volcano in the world according to the Philippines Department of Tourism. A remarkable landmark, Taal Volcano is an island in Lake Taal, a body of water collected within an ancient volcanic caldera. Because of this, Taal Volcano is often referred to as “a volcano within a volcano.” Take a boat trip across the lake to the island, then hike or take a horseback ride to the summit and back. Be aware that the volcano is active. Palawan Palawan, an island-province, is an ideal destination in the Philippines for nature lovers and diving enthusiasts. Palawan Island and the smaller islands that make up the province boast over 1, 000 miles of coastline with protected coral reefs teeming with tropical wildlife. The waters are one of the few places on earth where you can see the endangered dugong, or sea cow. Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is home to marine turtles, tiger and hammerhead sharks, dolphins, manta rays and almost 500 fish species. On land, native species like the bearcat and mousedeer mingle with zebras, giraffes and other animals introduced from Africa at Calauit Island Wildlife Sanctuary. Don't miss a trip to Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. 81.

Overview of Philippines Weather Most important! - Be aware of any typhoons affecting the Philippines by looking daily at the typhoon warning satellite image below. The image is live from the US Navy website. The Philippines is in the tropics and therefore does not experience 4 seasons - Filipinos generally have no concept of spring or autumn Near sea level, the temperature is somewhere between warm and very hot, 365 days a year, day and night - note though that some buildings and public transport can have airconditioners set to very cold. It is very hot when the sun is out, and less so when it is overcast. It is always humid, but reduces with altitude. e.g. your skin can get quite dry in Sagada. It can get quite cold at night in the mountains - under 10 degrees in January - so pack a light jacket. December, January and February are the coolest months. March, April and May are the hottest months. The typhoon season is June to November, but occasionally typhoons occur outside of the typhoon season. Monsoonal rains and thunderstorms can occur randomly during the typhoon season and are usually very localized and therefore are not very predictable. Look at a satellite weather image and check on the amount of cloud cover or water vapor over your area. Even if a typhoon is not going to hit directly, it can bring rain to areas a thousand-plus KM away. Typhoons and heavy rain frequently cause landslides, causing roads to be cut. Local busses and jeepneys operate between landslides to ferry people around, but it can be a big problem if you have a private car. If you want to travel in the mountains during the wet season, it is best to do so at the beginning of your holidays - delays will then not cause you to miss your flight out of the Philippines. Typhoons, heavy downpours, and long continuous rain can cause severe flooding in Manila. Because much of Manila is at sea level, or below, flood waters can stay for a very long time. Only when the ocean tides are low will the water drain away. Typhoon Awareness It is important to be typhoon aware when travelling in the Philippines. "Typhoon" is the local name for a tropical cyclone. You need to know if a typhoon is coming, and, if so, where is it going and what is its severity. Don't just rely on local news or the advice of local people. Below is an up-to-date image from the US Naval Maritime Forecast Center / Joint Typhoon Warning Center (NMFC/JTWC). It which will give you the earliest warning of a typhoon. You can see it from this page or go directly to the Navy website and see it from there. "Poor" tag means that the weather at a point they are tracking looks ominous but has a poor chance of developing into a typhoon. "Fair" means there is a fair chance of it developing into a typhoon. "TD" means tropical depression. "TS" means tropical storm. "TY" means Typhoon. Once a weather system develops into a tropical depression or beyond, you can get get predictions about its path and intensity by following this link Weather Links. WIth this tropical cyclone information, you can now better plan your holidays. Note that even a tropical depression can bring a tremendous amount of rain resulting in massive flooding or landslides. Early Tropical Cyclone Warning - US Naval Maritime Forecast Center / Joint Typhoon Warning Center The US Navy and Japanese weather website gives valuable typhoon information and forecasts. There are others also, so familiarize yourself with one before you commence your Philippines holiday, especially if you intend to travel during the typhoon season. These sites will usually give several to many days notice of a typhoon and its path so you can plan around it. This is what I do ...Always! The Philippines weather service provided by PAGASA is useful for checking day to day weather conditions around the Philippines but it is not particularly good for advanced information. Due to the sinking of a large passenger ferry in 2008, there are now tighter restrictions on passenger ships leaving in bad weather conditions. Expect that you will not be able to travel by sea several days before a typhoon hits and a day or so after it leaves.

 90.

The board was first established in 1964 and was called the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (Abbreviation: STPB ; Chinese: 新加坡旅游促进局). In that year, there were 91, 000 visitors. The primary task of STPB was to coordinate the efforts of hotels, airlines and travel agents to develop the fledgling tourism industry of the country. Later, STPB began to initiate new marketing ideas to promote Singapore's image aboard. The board created the Merlion, a symbol based on a Singapore mythical legend, that became an icon of the Singapore destination. The board has also been providing travel agent licensing and tourist guide training. STPB actively promoted the development of infrastructure, including the building of hotels and tourist attractions such as the Jurong Bird Park and Sentosa which is now a popular resort island for both tourists and local visitors. The board also markets the city as a convention venue and organises events to attract visitors. In the 1980s, several historic and culturally significant areas such as Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam were earmarked for preservation. These places express Singapore's cultural diversity and became popular tourist destinations. The Singapore River underwent a major cleanup program and the areas along the river were developed for restaurants and other tourist amenities. The board was renamed as Singapore Tourism Board in 1997. Mission [edit] The board now oversees all aspects of tourism, including resource allocation and long-term strategic planning. It establishes offices around the globe to actively market the Singapore destination. In the short term, the Singapore government has allocated S$905 million to STB for tourism developments until 2017. A third of this amount will be used to assist the industry to build manpower competencies through education and skills-upgrading initiatives, particularly in key areas such as conference management. Singapore tourism industry has grown rapidly since STPB was set up. In 2004, there were 8 million visitors. On 11 January 2005, Minister for Trade and Industry unveiled the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) bold targets to doubling visitor arrivals to 17 million by 2015, see details here Tourism 2015. In March 2010, the STB projected a 20-30% increase in visitor arrivals for the year. 2010 would see the much awaited opening of both the Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa. This coincided with other key events such as the FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX and the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. These offerings were expected to enhance Singapore’s status as a dynamic global city and increase visitor arrivals. The changes in Singapore's landscape would also continue beyond 2010. New developments such as the International Cruise Terminal, Gardens by the Bay and Changi Motor Sports Hub are expected to be unveiled in the coming years. Branding [edit] The STB also announced that it will be adopting a new destination branding strategy. In line with the emphasis on redesigning the tourism experience, the STB launched the evolved destination brand, YourSingapore. YourSingapore is centered on the concentration of experiences available in Singapore and seeks to enable travellers to personalize their visit according to their preferences. The YourSingapore website is an "innovative and intelligent platform" that invites visitors to make their virtual experience in Singapore a reality. The user-friendly website allows users to easily conceptualize and plan their individual itineraries.
