  66. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/5/1/2238143/-9-of-Trump-s-most-disturbing-responses-from-his-terrible-Time-interview?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  67. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The best way to&#x26;nbsp;interview&#x26;nbsp;Donald Trump is to &#x2026;&#x26;nbsp;not interview him.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  68.
  69. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Unless you&#x2019;re a particularly ardent supporter of vicious, kindergarten-level lies&#x2014;such as &#x201C;I won the election&#x26;nbsp;because I was ahead on election night&#x201D; or &#x201C;immigrants ate my health care plan&#x201D;&#x2014;there&#x2019;s really no reason to listen to, much less solicit, any of his so-called opinions.&#x26;nbsp;But Time magazine did just that.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  70.
  71. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Since&#x26;nbsp;his latest fibs are just&#x26;nbsp;fragrant fish heads in a whopping seafood &#x2018;n&#x2019; BS paella, it&#x2019;s important to at least take a taste if we want a full picture of his depravity. Or a sniff. Or, if possible, a six-month-long nap until this is all over and Joe Biden is reelected.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  72.
  73. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Ah, but there&#x2019;s no sleeping on Trump and his march to Putin-style autocracy, so we have to stay awake. And&#x2014;hoo-boy&#x2014;did he ever just give an eye-opening interview.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  93.
  94. &#x3C;p&#x3E;The Arizona Supreme Court won&#x2019;t reconsider its decision to revive a near-total abortion ban from 1864 that threatens doctors with prison time.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  95.
  96. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Earlier this month, the high court ruled in a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://azmirror.com/2024/04/09/abortions-are-banned-in-arizona-after-the-supreme-court-upholds-an-1864-law/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;4-2 majority opinion that the 160-year-old law trumps a 15-week gestational ban passed in 2022&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, effectively outlawing all abortions in the state. Less than two weeks after that ruling was released, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://azmirror.com/2024/04/23/mayes-az-supreme-court-abortion-ban-ruling-is-wrong-and-should-be-reconsidered/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes filed a motion to reconsider&#x3C;/a&#x3E; with the high court.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  97.
  98. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Late Friday, the justices shot down that request in a two-sentence court order, but did not give any explanation for the rejection.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  200. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;text-align:left&#x22;&#x3E;Only a few weeks ago, the world was aghast at Israel&#x27;s killing of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in three separate vehicles, and an investigation revealed the IDF&#x27;s AI targeting system that led to enormous numbers of civilian casualties. It&#x27;s no mystery why students are protesting. &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;text-align:left&#x22;&#x3E;By all accounts, the tent encampment at Columbia University was peaceful, yet cops were called in to break it up and the students were suspended. 221.
  222. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.stopthepresses.news/p/why-headlines-matter-and-news-outlets&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;Mark&#x26;nbsp;Jacob&#x3C;/a&#x3E;/&#x201D;Stop the Presses&#x201D; on Substack:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  223.
  224. &#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
  225. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Why headlines matter and news outlets fail at them&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  226.
  227. &#x3C;p style=&#x22;text-align:start&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;Out of laziness or fear, some media think small with the big type&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  228.
  229. &#x3C;p&#x3E;David Pecker, the opening witness in Donald Trump&#x2019;s first criminal trial, explained his top priority when he ran the National Enquirer:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  230.
  231. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/live-updates-opening-arguments-expected-in-trump-hush-money-trial/ar-AA1nrUCa&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x201C;The only thing that is important is the cover of the magazine.&#x201D;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  232.
  233. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Which means the most prominent headlines and photos.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  234.
  235. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Pecker understands the importance of headlines. Donald Trump does too. That&#x2019;s why Trump arranged for Pecker&#x2019;s slimy rag to write headlines during the 2016 campaign such as:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  236.
  237. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x201C;CRUZ&#x2019;S 5 SECRET MISTRESSES!&#x201D;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  238.
  239. &#x3C;p&#x3E;(with a subhead reading &#x201C;IT&#x2019;S OVER FOR PERVY TED&#x201D;)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  240.
  241. &#x3C;p&#x3E;and&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  242.
  243. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x201C;HILLARY: 6 MONTHS TO LIVE!&#x201D;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  244.
  245. &#x3C;p&#x3E;The dubious claims behind the headlines didn&#x2019;t matter. The headlines mattered.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  246. &#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

  341. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Donald Trump can&#x27;t stop the abortion policy fallout&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/13/2234915/-Donald-Trump-s-no-good-very-bad-week-talking-about-abortion&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;he kicked into high gear&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;earlier this month when he&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/8/2234084/-Trump-reveals-his-true-abortion-position-Lying-to-win-elections&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;declared&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; states should be the ultimate arbiters on reproductive freedom and the bodily autonomy of pregnant Americans.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  342.
  343. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;In&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://time.com/6972021/donald-trump-2024-election-interview/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;a new interview&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; with Time magazine&#x27;s Eric Cortellessa, Trump dodged questions about whether he would sign a national abortion ban, okayed the idea of monitoring pregnant women, and revisited the possibility of prosecuting anyone who gets abortion care.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  344.
  345. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Asked specifically about the prospect of state governments monitoring women&#x2019;s pregnancies, Trump was indifferent.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  346.
  347. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x22;I think they might do that,&#x201D; he said. &#x201C;Again, you&#x2019;ll have to speak to the individual states.&#x201D;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  348.
  349. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Ankle monitors for pregnant women? Sure, why not? It&#x27;s open season at the state level.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  350.
  351. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x22;The states are going to make those decisions,&#x22; Trump said.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  352.
  353. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Except, of course, when a draconian law generates really bad press that could kill Trump&#x27;s presidential bid, like in Arizona. &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  376.
  377. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Residents of St. George &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/10/14/1892401/-Louisiana-suburb-votes-to-form-its-own-city-and-a-mostly-white-school-district&#x22;&#x3E;had voted for incorporation&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; by a 54-46 margin in a 2019 referendum, but lower courts had blocked it from going forward because of its potentially adverse effects on the finances of both Baton Rouge and St. George. &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.lasc.org/opinions/2024/23-1108.C_23-1118.C.OPN.pdf&#x22;&#x3E;By a 4-3 margin&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, however, the Supreme Court reversed those previous decisions and allowed incorporation to proceed.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

By contrast, St. George&#x27;s 81,000 residents are 67% white and just 18% Black, and the new municipality would be solidly Republican.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  399. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;It would be hard to find an organization more &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.thetrace.org/2024/01/nra-trial-new-york-opening-statements/?gad_source=1&#x26;amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwir2xBhC_ARIsAMTXk86if777h7WXOk_kf1soliGy3wpVRx_u77_WdyYy95VMFJyImrDQs4EaAmzYEALw_wcB&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;corrupt&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; and &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/4/23/1852541/-Sentencing-documents-for-Marina-Butina-hide-a-clue-about-the-scope-of-counterintelligence-operations&#x22;&#x3E;incompetent&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; than the NRA, though a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/04/18/clarence-thomas-scandal-corruption-00092335&#x22;&#x3E;few&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://prospect.org/justice/2024-03-05-corrupt-supreme-court-bails-out-trump/&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;individuals&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; on a certain court sure come to mind. In January, chief executive Wayne LaPierre ended three decades of control when &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://apnews.com/article/nra-national-rifle-association-wayne-lapierre-resigns-a7cfcd45fc5406c86f186f403da83849&#x22;&#x3E;he resigned&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; ahead of a trial over tapping organization funds to treat himself to yacht trips, African safaris, and regular use of a private jet. In February, &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.thetrace.org/2024/01/nra-trial-new-york-opening-statements/?gad_source=1&#x26;amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwir2xBhC_ARIsAMTXk86if777h7WXOk_kf1soliGy3wpVRx_u77_WdyYy95VMFJyImrDQs4EaAmzYEALw_wcB&#x22;&#x3E;that trial&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; ended with LaPierre being ordered to &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://apnews.com/article/nra-wayne-lapierre-trial-ruling-d4d9b950ee2cbd63380826eb2bf210e6&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;pay back almost $4.4 million&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  400.
  401. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;In the wake of LaPierre&#x2019;s resignation, the organization has reportedly &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/the-nra-is-weaker-than-ever-how-much-does-that-matter.html&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;descended into infighting&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;. Finding a new leader has proven so difficult that not even &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://talkingpointsmemo.com/the-weekender/even-the-biggest-gun-bro-doesnt-wanna-touch-the-nra-right-now&#x22;&#x3E;Donald Trump Jr&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;., who spent years talking himself up as the &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.everytown.org/criteria-for-running-the-nra-donald-trump-jr-wayne-lapierre/&#x22;&#x3E;NRA&#x2019;s next leader&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, is willing to take the job. Or at least, he says he wouldn&#x2019;t, though no one has actually asked him to step in.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  402.
  403. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Leadership aside, the NRA now has only a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/the-nra-is-weaker-than-ever-how-much-does-that-matter.html&#x22;&#x3E;fraction of the funds&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; they had to sling around in past election seasons. They&#x2019;ve declined from the $50 million they put into races in 2016 to only $11 million in their PAC and SuperPAC combined as of the last filing. Membership is also down by over a million, to around five million, which is&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.newsweek.com/national-rifle-association-nra-gun-rights-group-membership-finances-issues-1842678&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;half the goal&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; LaPierre set for 2023 a decade ago.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  404.
  405. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;And that&#x2019;s not all that&#x2019;s declined. So have gun sales. So what does that mean for the gun lobby?&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  469. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/30/2238103/-Live-coverage-Donald-Trump-s-first-criminal-trial-kicks-off-third-week?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  470. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Donald Trump&#x2019;s trial on &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://manhattanda.org/district-attorney-bragg-announces-34-count-felony-indictment-of-former-president-donald-j-trump/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;34 counts of falsifying business records&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to disguise payments made to adult film actor Stormy Daniels kicks off its third week on Tuesday. Prosecutors are expected to resume questioning former managing director of First Republic Bank &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/gary-farro-testimony-trump-hush-money-trial-rcna149837&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Gary Farro&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  471.
  472. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Farro served as a banker for Trump attorney Michael Cohen. His testimony so far has largely focused on laying out the sequence of actions by which Cohen created a shell company to pay Daniels, opened bank accounts for that shell company, and moved funds into those accounts. Through his testimony, prosecutors have entered a series of bank records into evidence.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  473.
  474. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Farro&#x2019;s testimony may not be as colorful as that of former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, but the payments to Daniels are at the heart of the charges against Trump, and prosecutors need to obtain information from Farro in a way that makes Trump&#x2019;s crimes obvious. Based on where things stood with Farro on Friday, his time remaining on the stand may be relatively brief.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  475.
  476. &#x3C;p&#x3E;When prosecution and defense wrap up with Farro, it&#x2019;s not clear which witness will testify next. Prosecutors have been reluctant to announce an order of witnesses to help protect those appearing from social media attacks by Trump.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  540. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Donald Trump, who believes he&#x2019;s the only Republican who knows how to talk about abortion, just gave President Joe Biden and Democrats all the ammunition they need on the issue. In a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://time.com/6972022/donald-trump-transcript-2024-election/&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;lengthy interview with TIME&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, Trump refused to say he would veto a federal abortion ban &#x2026; three times.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  541.
  542. &#x3C;p&#x3E;The question wasn&#x2019;t hard the first time; a simple &#x201C;yes&#x201D; or &#x201C;no&#x201D; would have done the trick. &#x201C;Will you veto any bill that imposes any federal restrictions on abortions?&#x201D;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  543.
  544. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201C;You don&#x2019;t need a federal ban. We just got out of the federal. You know, if you go back on &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;Roe v. Wade&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;Roe v. Wade&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; was all about&#x2014;it wasn&#x2019;t about abortion so much as bringing it back to the states,&#x201D; Trump replied.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  586. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Donald Trump was held in contempt of court Tuesday and fined $9,000 for repeatedly violating a gag order that barred him from making public statements about witnesses, jurors and some others connected to his New York hush money case.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  587.
  588. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Prosecutors had alleged 10 violations, but New York Judge Juan M. Merchan found there were nine. Still, the ruling was a stinging rebuke for the Republican former president, who had insisted he was exercising his free speech rights.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  589.
  590. &#x3C;p&#x3E;The ruling came at the start of the second week of testimony in the historic case. Manhattan prosecutors say Trump and his associates took part in an illegal scheme to influence the 2016 presidential campaign by burying negative stories. He has pleaded not guilty.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  591.
  592. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Trump was joined in the courtroom by his son Eric, the first time a family member has attended his criminal trial.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  608. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The Arizona GOP has tapped state Sen. Jake Hoffman, a prominent Freedom Caucus member of&#x26;nbsp;the legislature, for a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://twitter.com/AZGOP/status/1785003240054198333&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;position with the Republican National Committee&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;. This comes less than a week after Hoffman&#x2019;s indictment on multiple felony charges for his part in a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://azmirror.com/2024/04/24/grand-jury-indicts-11-fake-electors-including-two-az-state-senators/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201C;fake elector&#x201D; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;scheme connected to the 2020 election.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  609.
  610. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;An Arizona grand jury indicted Hoffman and 17 others for their part in the massive &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://azmirror.com/2022/06/29/updated-trumps-fake-electors-heres-the-full-list/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;scheme&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; that sent lists of &#x201C;alternate electors&#x201D; from seven states to the National Archives after the 2020 election, according to the Arizona Mirror. The plan was to use those fraudulent documents to shift the states&#x2019; Electoral College votes from Joe Biden to Donald Trump.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  611.
  612. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The Arizona GOP did not respond to a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/29/politics/jake-hoffman-indicted-fake-elector-arizona-gop-rnc/index.html&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;CNN inquiry&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; about why they chose one of two state senators charged in this scheme to represent the party at the national level. Maybe it&#x2019;s because of Hoffman&#x2019;s important efforts on behalf of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, like trying to &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/2/9/2222281/-Arizona-Freedom-Caucus-member-has-a-new-bill-to-keep-Satan-off-public-property&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;keep Satan off of public property&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  741. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/tags/AbbreviatedPunditRoundUp&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Abbreviated Pundit Roundup&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E; is a long-running series published every morning that collects essential political discussion and analysis around the internet.&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  742.
  743. &#x3C;p&#x3E;We begin today with&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/29/opinion/trump-economics.html?unlocked_article_code=1.oE0.UstW.O-qq3WkteHKl&#x26;amp;smid=url-share&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;Paul Krugman&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;of The New York Times taking a look at what Donald Trump&#x2019;s&#x26;nbsp;&#x201C;quack&#x201D;&#x26;nbsp;economic policies may be&#x26;nbsp;like should he win the&#x26;nbsp;2024 presidential election.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  744.
  745. &#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
  746. &#x3C;p&#x3E;I wish people would stop calling Donald Trump a populist. He has, after all, never demonstrated any inclination to help working Americans, and his economic policies really didn&#x2019;t help &#x2014; his 2017 tax cut, in particular, was a giveaway to the wealthy. But his behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic showed that he&#x2019;s as addicted to magical thinking and denial of reality as any petty strongman or dictator, which makes it all too likely that he might preside over the type of problems that result when policies are based on quack economics.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  747.
  748. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Now, destructive economic policy isn&#x2019;t the thing that alarms me the most about Trump&#x2019;s potential return to power. Prospects for retaliation against his political opponents, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/11/us/politics/trump-2025-immigration-agenda.html&#x22;&#x3E;huge detention camps&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;for undocumented immigrants and more loom much larger in my mind. Still, it does seem worth noting that even as Republicans denounce President Biden for the inflation that occurred on his watch, Trump&#x2019;s advisers have been floating policy ideas that could be far more inflationary than anything that has happened so far.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  749.
  750. &#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x2019;s true that inflation surged in 2021 and 2022 before &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=1lfcd&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;subsiding&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, and there&#x2019;s a vigorous debate about how much of a role Biden&#x2019;s economic policies played. I&#x2019;m skeptical, among other things because inflation in the United States since the beginning of the Covid pandemic has &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=1lfs4&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;closely tracked with&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that of other advanced economies. What&#x2019;s notable, however, is what the Biden administration &#x3C;em&#x3E;didn&#x2019;t&#x3C;/em&#x3E; do when the Federal Reserve began &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DFEDTARU&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;raising interest rates&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to fight inflation. There was a clear risk that rate hikes would cause a politically disastrous recession, although this hasn&#x2019;t happened so far. But Biden and company&#x26;nbsp;didn&#x2019;t pressure the Fed to hold off; they respected the Fed&#x2019;s independence, letting it do what it thought was necessary to bring inflation under control.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  837. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Supporters of Donald Trump who are most likely to reconsider their support if he is convicted in his Manhattan hush money trial have very Joe Biden-friendly profiles, according to a &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/25/politics/cnn-poll-trump-trial/index.html?utm_source=substack&#x26;amp;utm_medium=email&#x22;&#x3E;CNN poll&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; on Americans&#x2019; views of the criminal proceedings.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  838.
  839. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;While&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24610236/cnn-poll-trump-trial.pdf&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;three-quarters&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; of current Trump supporters said a criminal conviction would be immaterial to them, 24% said they &#x22;might reconsider&#x22; their support. In other words, of all the voters supporting Trump in the survey, 76% were MAGA diehards, while roughly a quarter were more malleable.&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  840.
  841. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;So let&#x27;s take a look at a profile of these squishier Trump supporters, according to the survey:&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  842.
  843. &#x3C;ul&#x3E;
  844. &#x3C;li&#x3E;
  845. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;They are younger: 64% who said they might reconsider were under 50.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  846. &#x3C;/li&#x3E;
  847. &#x3C;li&#x3E;
  848. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;They are less likely to be white: 49% who said a conviction could matter were people of color, while just 17% of whites said the same.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  849. &#x3C;/li&#x3E;
  850. &#x3C;li&#x3E;
  851. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;63% said Biden legitimately won 2020.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  852. &#x3C;/li&#x3E;
  853. &#x3C;li&#x3E;
  854. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;20% said they backed Biden in 2020.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  855. &#x3C;/li&#x3E;
  856. &#x3C;li&#x3E;
  857. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;49% are independents.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  858. &#x3C;/li&#x3E;
  859. &#x3C;li&#x3E;
  860. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;50% are ideological moderates.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  882. <title>If you love dogs, Joe Biden is the only choice in 2024</title>
  883. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2237930/-If-you-love-dogs-Joe-Biden-is-the-only-choice-in-2024?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  884. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;If you&#x2019;re a dog lover (or a cat lover), there&#x2019;s really only one choice on the ballot this November:&#x26;nbsp;Joe Biden. How owners treat their pets reveals much about their character. Joe Biden passes the test with flying colors, while&#x26;nbsp;Donald Trump gets an incomplete at best.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  885.
  886. &#x3C;p&#x3E;In recent days we&#x2019;ve been deluged with stories about how South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a potential Trump VP pick,&#x26;nbsp;wrote in her soon-to-be-published book that she shot&#x26;nbsp;her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer pup Cricket. Cricket&#x2019;s apparent sins were being&#x26;nbsp;overly enthusiastic, spoiling&#x26;nbsp;a pheasant hunt, and killing&#x26;nbsp;a neighbor&#x2019;s chickens.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  887.
  888. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Noem said she &#x201C;hated&#x201D; Cricket because the pup was &#x201C;untrainable,&#x201D; &#x201C;dangerous to anyone she came in contact with,&#x201D; and &#x201C;less than worthless &#x2026;&#x26;nbsp;as a hunting dog.&#x201D;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  889.
  890. &#x3C;p&#x3E;In the face of a growing backlash &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/04/27/kristi-noem-dog-shooting/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;from Democrats and Republicans alike&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, Noem doubled down on Sunday &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://twitter.com/KristiNoem/status/1784631108207849781&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;in a post on X&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, formerly known as Twitter, writing that &#x201C;&#x3C;span&#x3E;people are looking for leaders who are authentic, willing to learn from the past, and don&#x2019;t shy away from tough challenges,&#x22; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  891.
  892. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The Democratic National Committee&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://democrats.org/news/dnc-statement-on-kristi-noems-new-book/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E; issued a statement &#x3C;/a&#x3E;on behalf of &#x201C;the dogs of the DNC, aka the Dogmocratic Party,&#x201D; that read,&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x201D;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;text-align:start&#x22;&#x3E;As DNC&#x2019;s canine companions, we&#x2019;ve heard a lot from our owners about just how extreme and dangerous Donald Trump and his far-right MAGA allies are&#x2014;but nothing could prepare us for the truly disturbing and horrifying passages Kristi Noem willingly chose to put in her new book. Our message is plain and simple: If you want elected officials who&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;don&#x2019;t&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;text-align:start&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;brag about brutally killing their pets as part of their self-promotional book tour, then listen to our owners&#x2014;and vote Democrat.&#x201D;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  893.
  894. &#x3C;p&#x3E;And if you want to find a couple that are&#x26;nbsp;true blue dog lovers, then look no further than President&#x26;nbsp;Biden and first lady&#x26;nbsp;Jill Biden.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  927. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Colin Jost, co-anchor of Saturday Night Live&#x2019;s Weekend Update segment and husband to actress Scarlett Johansson, was an entertainer at the White House Correspondents&#x2019; Association dinner on Saturday. His 20-minute set was filled with jokes made at the expense of President Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and the journalists in attendance.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  928.
  929. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Jost began by saying he &#x201C;was excited to be up here on stage with President Biden tonight, mostly to see if I could figure out where Obama was pulling the strings from.&#x201D; He then joked that it was &#x201C;not easy following President Biden. I mean, it&#x27;s not always easy following what he&#x27;s saying.&#x201D;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  930.
  931. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Jost then took a jab at twice-impeached Trump, saying it was &#x201C;refreshing to see a president of the United States at an event that doesn&#x27;t begin with a bailiff saying, &#x27;All rise.&#x27;&#x22;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  932.
  933. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201C;We are all here tonight at nerd prom,&#x201D; he said. &#x201C;Well, Matt Gaetz is at regular prom.&#x201D;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  950. <title>Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing to regain Senate majority</title>
  951. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2237954/-Mitch-McConnell-will-stop-at-nothing-to-regain-Senate-majority?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  952. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the Sunday airwaves to pat himself on the back for getting Ukraine aid passed, and promptly reverted back to his old ways. Bipartisanship is in the rear view mirror now and McConnell is still intent on the GOP winning at all costs, no matter what damage is done to the country.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  953.
  954. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;In lengthy interviews on NBC&#x2019;s &#x201C;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meet-press-april-28-2024-n1309641&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Meet the Press&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201D; and CBS&#x2019;s &#x201C;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.cbsnews.com/news/transcript-senate-minority-leader-mitch-mcconnell-face-the-nation-april-28-2024/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Face the Nation,&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201D; McConnell dodged the most critical issues of the day in furtherance of his primary goal.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  955.
  956. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201C;I think the single most important thing I can do is make sure my successor is the majority leader, no matter how the presidential election comes out,&#x201D; he told CBS&#x2019;s Margaret Brennan. &#x22;What I want to do and what I&#x27;m focused on is not the presidential race, but getting the Senate back. I&#x27;ve been the majority leader, I&#x27;ve been the minority leader. Majority is better.&#x22;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  957.
  958. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;McConnell said he intends to &#x22;get ready for the challenges that we have ahead of us, rather than just looking backward.&#x22; The nation&#x2019;s biggest challenge ahead is Donald Trump and his threat to democracy, and that&#x2019;s what McConnell is refusing to look back on.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  973. <title>Watch Biden ding Trump at White House correspondents&#x27; dinner</title>
  974. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2237956/-Watch-Biden-ding-Trump-at-White-House-correspondents-dinner?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  975. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The annual White House Correspondents&#x2019; Association dinner was&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://whca.press/dinners/2024-dinner/&#x22;&#x3E; held on Saturday&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;. The origins of the event &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://whca.press/about/history/&#x22;&#x3E;go back more than 100 years&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, and is supposed to be a time where the often combative worlds of politics and journalism can relax and play nice with one another&#x2014;if only for one night.&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  976.
  977. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Saturday&#x2019;s dinner was a black-tie affair with some celebrities and a whole bunch of media folks sitting around tables, listening to &#x201C;Saturday Night Live&#x201D; comedian Colin Jost and President Joe Biden give mostly lighthearted remarks about the current state of the news and politics.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  978.
  979. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Biden offered some self-deprecating humor, joking that when he told his wife that doing a humorous speech at the dinner would be as easy as &#x201C;riding a bike,&#x201D; she replied, &#x201C;That&#x2019;s what I&#x2019;m worried about.&#x201D;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  980.
  981. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The president also took some solid jabs at his presidential opponent. Calling Donald Trump &#x201C;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/15/2235384/-A-tale-of-two-candidates-A-criminal-trial-vs-actually-being-a-president&#x22;&#x3E;Sleepy Don,&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x201D; Biden smiled and said, &#x201C;I kind of like that. I may use that again.&#x201D;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  982.
  983. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;He also referenced Trump&#x2019;s bizarre &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/15/2235328/-Donald-Trump-s-Gettysburg-Address&#x22;&#x3E;retelling of the Battle of Gettysburg&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, joking that &#x201C;Trump&#x27;s speech was so embarrassing the statue of Robert E Lee surrendered &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;again&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;.&#x201D;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1019. <title>Kristi Noem&#x27;s story of murdering her dog keeps getting worse</title>
  1020. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2237931/-Kristi-Noem-s-story-of-murdering-her-dog-keeps-getting-worse?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  1021. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Kristi Noem has done plenty of terrible things as governor of South Dakota. That includes disregarding COVID-19 safety rules and being among the first to &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/12/8/2000677/-South-Dakota-hospitals-are-full-its-people-are-dying-and-its-governor-is-busy-raising-her-profile&#x22;&#x3E;treat the whole pandemic as a political opportunity&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;. No pencil-pushing scientist was going to tell her what to do, even if that meant citizens in South Dakota had to be &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://rapidcityjournal.com/news/state-and-regional/more-covid-19-patients-being-flown-out-of-state/article_86288eff-f41b-56e1-bcf8-159bbdbb74cc.html&#x22;&#x3E;airlifted out of state&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; for treatment due to overcrowding.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1022.
  1023. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;She&#x2019;s &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/22/2236061/-7-stories-to-know-Trump-s-immunity-AI-girlfriends-and-the-GOP-loves-child-labor&#x22;&#x3E;banned from visiting 10% of the land in her own state&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; because of her continuous disrespect for Native Americans. She insists on &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation/feds-once-again-nix-noems-mount-rushmore-fireworks-event/&#x22;&#x3E;staging fireworks displays&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; in the middle of a drought. And she&#x2019;s &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/kristi-noem-faces-lawsuit-promoting-texas-dentist-social-media-rcna143325&#x22;&#x3E;currently being sued&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; after doing a commercial for a cosmetic dentist in Texas to pay for her new set of teeth.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1024.
  1025. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;With all that, Noem had still barely made a dent in the national news until she told a grisly story of how &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/4/26/2237432/-Trump-VP-hopeful-Kristi-Noem-is-very-proud-of-that-time-she-murdered-her-dog&#x22;&#x3E;she shot a family dog and tossed its body in a gravel pit&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; when it failed to perform to her satisfaction. But just because she&#x2019;s been revealed as an empathy-deprived monster, don&#x2019;t assume that she&#x2019;s not at the top of Donald Trump&#x2019;s shortlist for vice president.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1037. <title>Biden needs to win big with women in November. Here&#x2019;s how he can do it</title>
  1038. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2237541/-Biden-needs-to-win-big-with-women-in-November-Here-s-how-he-can-do-it?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  1039. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;If gender politics is your jam, The New York Times absolutely&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/24/us/politics/trump-women-men.html&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;nailed this headline&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; last week: &#x22;Trump respects women, most men say.&#x22;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1040.
  1041. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The story cited&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/04/14/us/elections/times-siena-poll-registered-voter-crosstabs.html&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; &#x3C;/span&#x3E;Siena polling&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; for The New York Times showing that while a 54% majority of men say Trump respects women, either &#x22;a lot&#x22; or &#x22;some&#x22;&#x2014;just 31% of women&#x2014;hold the same view.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1042.
  1043. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;In the survey, President Joe Biden is winning women&#x2019;s votes, but not by as much as one might hope given the lopsided result of the &#x22;respect&#x22; question.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1044.
  1045. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Biden had a 16-point lead among women, with 53% to 37%, but the advantage was more than offset by Donald Trump&#x27;s 20-point lead among men, 57% to 37%.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1098. <title>Climate change is scary now. It will be terrifying under Trump</title>
  1099. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2236708/-Climate-change-is-scary-now-It-will-be-terrifying-under-Trump?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  1100. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The intrusion of Donald Trump into this nation&#x2019;s political bloodstream and his&#x26;nbsp;refusal to depart the field after eight long years has provided him ample opportunity to reveal his nature to the American public.&#x26;nbsp;His grotesque mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic and his callous disregard of the lives of American citizens was probably&#x26;nbsp;the worst example of his stunning lack of&#x26;nbsp;human conscience or empathy.&#x26;nbsp;That was almost certainly the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/poor-handling-of-virus-cost-trump-his-reelection-campaign-autopsy-finds/2021/02/01/92d60002-650b-11eb-886d-5264d4ceb46d_story.html&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;primary reason&#x3C;/a&#x3E; Americans decided to dispose of him after one term&#x26;nbsp;by a margin of &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/politics/elections/2021/01/06/trumps-failed-efforts-overturn-election-numbers/4130307001/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;about 7 million &#x3C;/a&#x3E;votes.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1101.
  1102. &#x3C;p&#x3E;But since&#x26;nbsp;his failed coup of Jan. 6, 2021, Trump has&#x26;nbsp;even more radically altered&#x26;nbsp;his presentation, transforming himself into a full-blown would-be tyrant, vengeful toward&#x26;nbsp;anyone that might oppose his return to power.&#x26;nbsp;The very idea that he might (somehow) have any real interest in&#x26;nbsp;serving the needs of the U.S. public has completely vanished, buried under a constant litany of attacks and&#x26;nbsp;contrived grievances. And though his &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.reuters.com/world/us/takeaways-trump-hush-money-trial-what-weve-learned-so-far-2024-04-24/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;temporary, latest incarnation&#x3C;/a&#x3E; is that of&#x26;nbsp;a small, angry man seething with resentment as he&#x2019;s forced to face the consequences of hiding his sexual dalliances, it is&#x26;nbsp;his plans should he be elected again that&#x26;nbsp;Americans really ought to be paying&#x26;nbsp;attention to.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1103.
  1104. &#x3C;p&#x3E;That a reanimated&#x26;nbsp;Trump administration would pose a worse, more virulent&#x26;nbsp;threat&#x26;nbsp;to the country than he already does seems to beggar&#x26;nbsp;belief. But anyone who bothers to wade through&#x26;nbsp;the fanatical right-wing 920-page manifesto&#x26;nbsp;known as &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.project2025.org/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Project 2025&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x2014;the conservative&#x26;nbsp;template prepared&#x26;nbsp;specifically for Trump&#x2019;s implementation when and if he regains power&#x2014;will find that threat spelled out in clear, plain language.&#x26;nbsp;It meticulously lays out the dismantling and refashioning of our&#x26;nbsp;federal government into a vehicle solely dedicated to&#x26;nbsp;serving right-wing and Trump&#x2019;s personal interests and the goals of those&#x26;nbsp;now attempting to put him back into office.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1105.
  1106. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Whole swaths of the U.S. public&#x26;nbsp;are individually targeted&#x26;nbsp;for institutionalized policies of oppression&#x2014;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://msmagazine.com/2024/02/08/project-2025-conservative-right-wing-trump-woke/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;women, &#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/how-a-second-trump-presidency-could-impact-the-lgbtq-community&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;LGBTQ+ people&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.niskanencenter.org/project-2025-unveiling-the-far-rights-plan-to-demolish-immigration-in-a-second-trump-term/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;immigrants&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;among them. But&#x26;nbsp;on an even larger scale, the entire&#x26;nbsp;notion&#x26;nbsp;of government designed to serve Americans&#x2019; interests is discarded.&#x26;nbsp;Nowhere is that proposed transformation more evident&#x26;nbsp;than in its plans to gut the nation&#x2019;s environmental protections.&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1134. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells wants Crystal Mason&#x2019;s illegal voting conviction reinstated, his office announced Thursday.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1135.
  1136. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Mason, a Tarrant County resident, was acquitted of an illegal voting charge last month. Sorrells&#x2019; office is now asking the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to overturn the ruling that cleared her.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1137.
  1138. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Mason was convicted of illegal voting in March 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison for casting a provisional ballot in the 2016 election while on supervised release for federal tax evasion.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1155. <title>Trump immunity case shows why we need to reform the Supreme Court</title>
  1156. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/29/2237479/-Trump-immunity-case-shows-why-we-need-to-reform-the-Supreme-Court?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  1157. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The U.S. Supreme Court heard Donald Trump&#x2019;s immunity claim in his federal criminal trial for trying to overturn the 2020 election Thursday, and the conservative majority&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.vox.com/scotus/24140309/supreme-court-donald-trump-immunity-jack-smith&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; is likely going to give Donald Trump what he wants&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;: a delay of the trial until after the election. If Trump wins again, the conservatives have essentially signaled that they would be open to blanket immunity for him against any future criminal charges.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1158.
  1159. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;The fact that Supreme Court justices are suggesting that the president is above the law proves why the court must be reformed.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1180. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x201C;7 stories to know&#x201D; is &#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/tags/7stories&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;a new Monday series&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E; showcasing stories that may have been ignored in the crush of news over the past few weeks, and stories that have continued to evolve over the weekend. Expect to read coverage about health, science, and climate that frequently take second chair to what&#x2019;s happening at the top of the page, plus information from local sources that the national media may have overlooked.&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1181.
  1182. &#x3C;h3&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;1. Secretary Pete Buttigieg announces big changes to protect airline travelers&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/h3&#x3E;
  1183.
  1184. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The Department of Transportation &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/biden-harris-administration-announces-final-rule-protect-consumers-surprise-airline#:~:text=In%20addition%20to%20finalizing%20the,extra%20charge%20when%20they%20fly.&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;u&#x3E;issued new rules last week&#x3C;/u&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; that address many of the fees, delays, and indignities that make airline travel so unpleasant.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1193.
  1194. &#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1195.
  1196. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Passengers should expect cash payments for cancellations, long flight delays, flights diverted to another airport, added connections, being bumped down a service class, luggage that doesn&#x2019;t show up when it should, services like in-flight WiFi that don&#x2019;t work, or finding that flights don&#x2019;t meet standards for accessibility.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1197.
  1198. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;If airlines have to hand over cash for these things, maybe they&#x2019;ll stop doing them as a matter of awful routine.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1199.
  1200. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;In addition to making airlines pay for these common mistakes, consumers are also now protected from several junk fees, mostly by forcing airlines to be honest about their pricing, rather than advertising a low ticket price while hiding a list of mandatory fees. The Biden administration expects these new rules to result in consumer savings of $500 million a year.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1201.
  1202. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;And maybe they&#x2019;ll make it less likely that your next flight to Boston ends up being diverted to Newark, or that rolling away from the jetway isn&#x2019;t followed by six hours of staring through the window at the tarmac.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1203.
  1204. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The new transportation policies fit in with President Joe Biden&#x2019;s bigger fight &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/10/11/biden-harris-administration-announces-broad-new-actions-to-protect-consumers-from-billions-in-junk-fees/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;against junk fees&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; that plague consumers. Whether its banks imposing unreasonable fees on day-to-day actions, or cable and phone providers tacking on whole lists of fees that were not part of the advertised price, Biden has been on a tear when it comes to saving consumers money and giving them more honest information.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1205.
  1206. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;The next time someone calculates inflation, they need to work that in. Because if the real cost of living includes hidden fees, there&#x2019;s less money left for everything else.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1241. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Posey, who &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://dos.elections.myflorida.com/campaign-docs/?account=83728&#x22;&#x3E;filed to run again on April 9&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;, said he was ending his campaign after it was too late for anyone else to run because of unspecified &#x22;circumstances beyond my control.&#x22; He also acknowledged he&#x27;d previously discussed his decision with Haridopolos, who filed to run only an hour before the deadline, claiming the &#x22;stars aligned during the past week and Mike decided he was ready for Congress.&#x22;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

His latest tirade comes just days after Trump claimed&#x26;nbsp;RFK the Lesser could hurt both major party candidates but &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.politico.com/news/2024/04/22/republicans-are-starting-to-worry-about-rfk-jr-00153763&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;&#x201C;&#x3C;span style=&#x22;text-align:left&#x22;&#x3E;he might hurt Biden a little bit more.&#x201D;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

And not because RFK Jr. would be forced to attend state dinners in a giant acrylic hamster ball to avoid infecting other world leaders with smallpox.&#x26;nbsp;No, it&#x2019;s because Trump&#x2014;and Republicans as a whole&#x2014;are suddenly very nervous that Kennedy will loosen&#x26;nbsp;Trump&#x2019;s once-reliable hold on the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.thedailybeast.com/stella-immanuel-trumps-new-covid-doctor-believes-in-alien-dna-demon-sperm-and-hydroxychloroquine#:~:text=Stella%20Immanuel%2C%20Trump&#x27;s%20New%20COVID,DNA%2C%20Demon%20Sperm%2C%20and%20Hydroxychloroquine&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;demon sperm&#x3C;/a&#x3E; vote.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

If we occupy an air transport with a patient who could completely receive the totality of her care right here, safely, it&#x2019;s potentially dangerous for other patients,&#x201D; Souza said.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1436. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here&#x27;s one way to avoid dealing with election results you don&#x27;t like: just wipe them from the record books. It&#x27;s not Orwell&#x2014;it&#x27;s Arizona, and we&#x27;re talking all about it on this week&#x27;s episode of &#x22;The Downballot.&#x22; This fall, voters have the chance to deny new terms to two conservative Supreme Court justices, but a Republican amendment would retroactively declare those elections null and void&#x2014;and all but eliminate the system Arizona has used to evaluate judges for 50 years. We&#x27;re going to guess voters won&#x27;t like this one bit &#x2026; if it even makes it to the ballot in the first place.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1458. <link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2024/4/28/2236883/--Unapologetically-loud-How-student-journalists-fought-a-Kansas-district-over-spyware-and-won?pm_campaign=blog&#x26;pm_medium=rss&#x26;pm_source=</link>
  1459. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;By Sherman smith, Kansas Reflector&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1460.
  1461. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;This article was originally published on &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://kansasreflector.com/2024/04/22/unapologetically-loud-how-student-journalists-fought-a-kansas-district-over-spyware-and-won/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Kansas Reflector&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1462.
  1463. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;When Lawrence Public Schools deployed spyware last fall, district officials said it would help them respond to a growing mental health crisis by monitoring students&#x2019; correspondence, photos, classwork and files.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1464.
  1465. &#x3C;p&#x3E;But student journalists were alarmed by the First Amendment problems inherent with the district&#x2019;s implementation of the surveillance program, made by &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.gaggle.net/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Gaggle&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. As district officials dismissed the students&#x2019; concerns, they gathered evidence that Gaggle was failing in its core mission to protect students while violating their privacy and free speech rights.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1466.
  1467. &#x3C;p&#x3E;And the four seniors who led the charge &#x2014; Morgan Salisbury, Maya Smith, Jack Tell and Natasha Torkzaban &#x2014; refused to be quiet about it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1468.
  1469. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x201C;I think all four of us are unapologetically loud when it comes to situations like this,&#x201D; Torkzaban said.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1509. <description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Few issues have vexed the Biden administration like student loan forgiveness. Given that more than 40 million Americans &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/17/biden-administration-releases-new-student-loan-forgiveness-proposal.html&#x22;&#x3E;owe&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; money on their student loans, for a total of $1.6 trillion, few issues have such a large impact on so many.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1510.
  1511. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;Democrats and progressives have long &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/21/what-the-2020-candidates-are-proposing-to-do-about-student-debt.html&#x22;&#x3E;prioritized&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; this matter, and President Joe Biden promised to fight for significant debt relief before taking office. Even though his ambitious proposal to use his executive authority to forgive $400 billion in student loan debt was ultimately &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/6/30/2178548/-Supreme-Court-rejects-Biden-s-plan-to-wipe-away-400-billion-in-student-loans&#x22;&#x3E;blocked&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; by the Supreme Court, this White House has nontheless made significant progress with targeted relief, and has taken &#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/17/biden-administration-releases-new-student-loan-forgiveness-proposal.html&#x22;&#x3E;another shot&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E; at an across-the-board relief proposal. Nevertheless, many middle- and lower-income borrowers in particular continue to suffer under the burden of student debt, ensuring that this issue will remain front of mind for voters come&#x26;nbsp;November.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

  1539. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;This story was originally published by &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://19thnews.org/2024/04/hipaa-medical-records-out-of-state-abortions/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;The 19th&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1540.
  1541. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Health care providers aren&#x2019;t allowed to tell law enforcement about a patient&#x2019;s abortion if they received the procedure in a state where it is legal, it is protected by federal law, or it is permitted by state law, the Biden administration said Monday.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1542.
  1543. &#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/hipaa-privacy-rule-support-reproductive-health-care-privacy.pdf&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;The new rule i&#x3C;/a&#x3E;s based on the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA. It could shield patients&#x2019; medical information if they live in a state with an abortion ban and travel elsewhere to seek care. Those are details that could show up in their health records if they seek subsequent medical care in their home state.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
  1544.
  1545. &#x3C;p&#x3E;But it&#x2019;s unclear whether it will protect medical data for people who self-manage their abortions &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://19thnews.org/2024/03/telehealth-abortion-pill-access-supreme-court/&#x22;&#x3E;by receiving medication in the mail&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, often from a prescribing physician in a state with laws protecting reproductive rights.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
