44.

Los Angeles Kings centre Anze Kopitar of Jesenice, Slovenia registered his third National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff overtime winner on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-4 Kings win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. With the win, the Kings and Oilers are now tied at one in their best out of seven Western Conference first round playoff series.

 45.
Inside look at the OT winner

 46.
Kopitar received a pass from Quinton Byfield of Newmarket, Ontario. Byfield redirected a long pass from Michael Anderson of Fridley, Minnesota, perfectly, and his pass went on the stick of Kopitar. All of a sudden Kopitar was wide open and all alone in the Oilers zone. Kopitar easily got past a diving Darnell Nurse, and delivered a shot top shelf and beat Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner at 2:07 of the extra period.

 47.
Who else scored for Los Angeles?

 48.
The Kings got two first period goals from left winger Adrian Kempe of Kramfors, Sweden. Ironically, Kopitar picked up the lone assist on the two Kempe goals, which put the Kings up 2-0 at the time. Los Angeles then got a first period goal from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Drew Doughty of London, Ontario, who scored on the breakaway late in the first period. Ironically, it was Doughty’s first Stanley Cup playoff overtime goal in a decade. The last time Doughty scored in the playoffs in 2014, the Kings won the Stanley Cup. Meanwhile, the Kings’s other goal scorer was Kevin Fiala of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

 49.
Kopitar’s two other playoff overtime winners

 50.
Kopitar’s first Stanley Cup playoff winner came on April 17, 2010 in a 3-2 Kings win over the Vancouver Canucks in game two of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Ironically, Doughty picked up the primary assist, and Jack Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana had the other helper at 7:28 on the power-play. Kopitar’s second Stanley Cup playoff winner came on May 30, 2012 in a 2-1 Kings win over the New Jersey Devils. Kopitar scored from Doughty again, and Justin Williams of Cobourg, Ontario in game one of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final.

 68.

The San Jose Sharks have fired head coach David Quinn of Cranston, Rhode Island according to Ryan S. Clark of ESPN on Wednesday. Even though expectations were minimal this season for the San Jose Sharks, not many people would have expected it went as bad as it did for the team. San Jose had the least points in the National Hockey League with 47. They had a record of 19 wins, 54 regulation losses, and nine losses in extra time.

 69.
The Sharks’s 47 points were the least number of points during an 82 game season since the salary cap was instituted for the 2005-06 season. It should be noted that the Detroit Red Wings only had 39 points in 2019-20, but they only played 71 games that season, as their season was cut short 11 games due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

 70.
Awful goals for and against ratio

 71.
San Jose had troubles scoring this past season, and they could not find a way to stop their opponent from scoring either. Their -150 goals for and against differential was the worst ratio in the salary cap era. Their 181 goals were the second fewest in the NHL. Only the Chicago Blackhawks scored less with 179. Meanwhile, the Sharks’ 331 goals against were the most by a wide margin. The Columbus Blue Jackets gave up the second most with 300.

 72.
Two seasons coaching the Sharks

 73.
Quinn was the coach of the Sharks for two seasons. He had a record of 41 wins, 98 regulation losses and 25 losses in extra time for a winning percentage of .326. Quinn came to the Sharks from the New York Rangers, where he spent three seasons coaching there from 2018 to 2021.

 74.
Lofty challenges ahead for Sharks GM Mike Grier

 75.
This was the first time in Mike Grier’s role as Sharks general manager he fired a NHL head coach. There is no doubt that Grier has a lot of work ahead of him in order to make the Sharks competitive.

 96.

 97.

The Detroit Lions have reportedly come to terms on a contract extension with wide receiver, Amon-Ra St. Brown. The deal is reportedly for four years and more than $120 million with $72 million guaranteed. St. Brown has burst onto the scene the last couple of years as a top wideout in today’s NFL. He is considered one of the more underrated players in the league. He was a favorite target of quarterback, Jared Goff, and helped the Lions turn around their fortunes in the past few seasons. St. Brown made his first All-Pro selection this past year to go along with a second Pro-Bowl selection.

 98.
Detroit Lions Agree to Four-Year Extension With Amon-Ra St. Brown

 99.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Solidifying Himself as a Top Wide Receiver in the NFL

 100.
St. Brown has been terrific throughout his young NFL career. Last year, he recorded 119 receptions for 1,515 receiving yards, 10 receiving touchdowns, and 7.4 receptions per game. He also logged a catch percentage of 72.6 percent, 94.7 receiving yards per game, and 12.7 receiving yards per reception.

 101.
For St. Brown’s career, he has logged 315 catches, 3,588 receiving yards, 11.4 receiving yards per reception, 73.2 receiving yards per game, and 21 receiving touchdowns. Considering Amon-Ra St. Brown is entering his fourth season in the NFL, one could argue he has yet to reach his ceiling. He is already a top-10 wide receiver but could eventually be in the conversation for top-five. The Detroit Lions recognize this and were smart to secure their top receiving target long-term.

 102.
Detroit’s Projection

 103.
The Detroit Lions were the feel-good story of the NFL this past year. After years of rebuilding, the team seems to be on a solid path. Head coach, Dan Campbell, deserves a ton of credit for turning around the culture in the locker room and the young talent seems to be blooming at the right time. The rebuild seems to be over.

 104.
Aside from their secondary, the Lions had a decent defense this past year and were one game short of appearing in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they ran into a talented San Francisco 49ers squad. Offensively, they have plenty of young talent that will continue to give opposing defenses fits. Jared Goff is an underrated quarterback and guys like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, and David Montgomery make this offensive unit deadly. Despite the disappointing end in the NFC Championship, expect the Detroit Lions to be in the thick of contention again this coming season.

 122.

 123.

The greatness of Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Shohei Ohtani of Oshu, Japan is continuing. Two days after setting the record for the most home runs hit by a Japanese baseball player of all-time, Ohtani hit a home run of significance in a 4-1 Dodgers win over the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, District of Columbia. Ohtani’s ninth inning home run off of Nationals relief pitcher Matt Barnes not only went 450 feet, but travelled 118.7 miles per hour. That, according to Dayn Perry of CBS Sports, was the hardest hit of the season, and the hardest hit home run of Ohtani’s career.

 124.
What were the previous hardest hits in 2024?

 125.
Two hits have travelled 116.7 miles per hour. Remarkably, San Diego Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hit a 116.7 mile per hour single on March 21 in the Padres’s 15-11 win over the Dodgers in Seoul, South Korea. Then, New York Yankees right fielder Giancarlo Stanton also hit a 116.7 mile per hour single on April 6 in a 9-8 Yankees win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium.

 126.
Only hit for Ohtani in the game

 127.
Ohtani waited for his fifth plate appearance, and fourth at bat, before collecting his first and only hit of the game. In his previous four plate appearances, he had a ground out to second base, two flyball outs, and a walk. For those like me who chose Ohtani in Major League Baseball’s Beat the Streak, I felt your stress level last night.

 128.
Ohtani in 2024

 129.
This season, Ohtani leads MLB with a .364 batting average, 36 hits, 11 doubles, 67 total bases, and a .677 slugging percentage. Ohtani also has scored 20 runs, and had one triple, six home runs, 14 runs batted in, five stolen bases, 13 walks, two sacrifice flies, and an on base percentage of .430. The Dodgers meanwhile lead the National League West with a record of 13 wins and 11 losses. They lead the San Diego Padres by a game and a half.

 152.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued on Tuesday with more game twos. There was an excellent game in south Florida as the Florida Panthers played the Tampa Bay Lightning. In the end, the Panthers won 3-2 in overtime on a game-winning goal by Panthers left winger Carter Verhaeghe of Hamilton, Ontario. With the win, the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoff Series.

 153.
However, the highlight of the game was a save made by Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky of Novokuznetsk, Russia. You could make the argument that it was the best save Bobrovsky has ever made, and one of the best saves ever made in National Hockey League history by a goaltender without his hockey stick.

 154.
In Depth Look at the Save

 155.
Lightning forward Anthony Cirelli shot the puck off the boards. Lightning star Steven Stamkos got the rebound. Bobrovsky went to face Stamkos, however, Stamkos did not shoot, but passed the puck over to Lightning defenseman Mathew Dumba. In order to make the save, Bobrovsky used quick instincts. Without his stick, and he slid backwards, and with his back facing Dumba, made the remarkable save with his wrist. Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press called Bobrovsky’s achievement as “perhaps the save of the year.” You could go one step further, and call it the greatest save in recent memory.

 156.
Paul Maurice’s Reaction

 157.
When commenting on if he saw the save, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice had a classic response. He admitted he did not see what happened because he was yelling at a Panthers player on the bench with “straight profanity.”

 158.
X Response

 159.
Here is some of the reaction from the X World (formerly Twitter).

 197.

Malik Monk had a solid individual campaign with the Sacramento Kings this season. As a result, he will command some attention this offseason during free agency. However, there is mutual interest between Monk and the Kings staying together. The cap situation for the Kings is where details get a bit murky. They are expected to be one of the over-the-cap teams this summer which will limit their ability to re-sign the Sixth Man of the Year candidate. At most, Sacramento can offer a deal that caps out at $78 million over four years. However, Malik Monk expressed heavy interest in returning to Sacramento next year. This is a promising sign for the Kings, but as we have seen so many times in this league, money also talks.

 198.
Malik Monk Would Like to Stay With Kings

 199.
His Sixth Man of the Year Campaign

 200.
Monk solidified himself as a solid scorer and playmaker off the bench this season. He is a Sixth Man of the Year finalist and revitalized his career in Sacramento. This season, he tallied 15.4 points, 5.1 assists per game, and shot 35.0 percent from three-point range. Monk also had career-highs in assist percentage (28.9 percent), block percentage (1.9 percent), and defensive win-share (1.6).

 201.
He also averaged a true shooting percentage of 56.4 percent, an offensive rating of 113, and a box plus/minus rating of 0.6. While the Sacramento Kings failed the make the playoffs this year, Malik Monk was at least a bright spot for them on their second unit. Losing him would be a big blow to their bench. Considering all of this, he will garner plenty of interest this offseason and many teams could his firepower coming off the bench.

 202.
Teams Who Could Use Malik Monk

 203.
Reliable sixth men who can pack a scoring punch are more sought after than ever in today’s NBA. Malik Monk fits that bill, especially after the season he had with Sacramento. One team who could his firepower coming off the bench is the Detroit Pistons. Detroit was the worst team in the league this past season and could use all the help they can get, and Monk would be nice veteran presence in their locker room.

 204.
Another team who could target the Sixth Man of the Year candidate is the Orlando Magic. Orlando could use an offensive weapon in their backcourt. Their current personnel consists of scrappy, glue guys like Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony who are solid, but limited offensively. As a result, Monk would be a solid fit for Orlando. All in all, expect Malik Monk to potentially receive a pay raise this coming summer, especially if he wins Sixth Man of the Year honors.

 222.

 223.

San Francisco 49ers general manager, John Lynch, recently shared an update on the contract talks with wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk.

 224.

“I’ve communicated on many occasions: our wish is that he’s here and part of the Niners for the rest of his career,” Lynch said. “We’re working through that … I can say we’re having good talks, and I’m just going to leave it at that.”

 225.
Aiyuk is coming off a terrific year where he solidified himself as quarterback, Brock Purdy’s favorite target. A season that saw him record 75 catches for 1,342 yards, and seven touchdowns.

 226.
Talks Progressing Between Brandon Aiyuk and San Francisco 49ers

 227.
Brandon Aiyuk’s Career Numbers

 228.
Aiyuk has been one of the most underrated receivers in the entire league. Throughout his career, he has logged 25 receiving touchdowns, 3,931 receiving yards, 14.6 receiving yards per reception, 4.3 receptions per game, and 63.4 receiving yards per game. On top of this, Brandon Aiyuk also possesses a career catch percentage of 67.4 percent, has caught 269 career passes on 399 targets, and a receiving success rate of 62.2 percent. It is only a matter of time before Aiyuk breaks onto the scene as a top receiver in today’s NFL and makes a Pro Bowl. It makes sense why the San Francisco 49ers are adamant about getting him a new deal. Especially when one considers the other All-Pro players on their roster they are paying or will eventually have to pay or let walk in free agency.

 229.
Can the 49ers Eventually Break Through and Win the Super Bowl?

 230.
The 49ers arguably have the most talented roster in the entire league. There is a reason they have made it to the Super Bowl twice in the past four years. However, they always seem to fall just short of the end goal. Many have criticized head coach, Kyle Shanahan, for his coaching in the biggest stages of huge games.

 231.
However, the 49ers have also had plenty of talent in the past few seasons to overcome certain disadvantages. Needless to say, they have underachieved. However, if the San Francisco 49ers can retain most of their offensive core along with their talented defense, they may have one more chance at a title before their Super Bowl window officially closes. That starts with retaining Brandon Aiyuk, a receiver who is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. After the update shared by John Lynch, it seems as if this is close to becoming a reality.

 261.

Entering Turn 4 on the final lap of Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR Cup Series champion Michael McDowell led the field after receiving pushes from fellow Ford drivers Brad Keselowski and Noah Gragson.

 262.
Within view of the start/finish line, McDowell, who started on the pole, attempted to block Keselowski and he lost control of his machine, crashing out and placing P31. Tyler Reddick took advantage of the mele and earned the checkered flag.

 263.
McDowell, who has just two wins in 475 career Cup starts, suffered another setback.

 264.
“Heartbroken, man,” McDowell said, as reported by NASCAR.com. “It’s super unfortunate. So disappointed. Yeah, you just want to get to the finish line there, and we had an opportunity to win the race. And I haven’t seen the replay and I’m just going off of what I felt and saw. I’ve moved up to block Brad’s run, and when I pulled back down, I just, just wasn’t clear, you know? Barely got my bumper and turned me, you know, but just unfortunate because we had a good chance of getting the Dark Horse Mustang in Victory Lane.”

 265.
Below, we’ll preview the top storylines heading into Sunday’s Würth 400, go over the odds, and give our best bets for the 11th race on the 2024 NASCAR schedule.

 480.
Würth 400 Predictions and Picks

 481.
Here are our best NASCAR bets for the Würth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway:

 482.
Kyle Larson (+450)

 483.
The regular-season points leader started from the rear at Talladega because of a qualifying snafu. With one win and 11 top-10s in 15 career outings at Dover, it’s a good place for Larson, the odds-on favorite, to rebound.

 484.
Tyler Reddick (+1800)

 485.
Reddick has proven he can win on road course and now superspeedways. With five consecutive top-10s, his team looks primed to conquer the Monster Mile.

 486.
Brad Keselowski (+2200)

 487.
With back-to-back P2s, Keselowski appears close to ending his prolonged winless skid. Ford, which has yet to record a win in its newly designed Mustang Dark Horse, needs the owner/driver to come through – fast.

 509.

The Chicago White Sox are having all sorts of problems scoring runs at the moment. When they were shutout 7-0 by the Minnesota Twins on Monday, the White Sox set a record that they would simply not want. Chicago became the first team in Major League Baseball history to be shutout eight times in their first 22 games.

 510.
Monday’s shutout loss

 511.
The White Sox had eight hits (all singles) against Twins pitching, but were unable to bring a single base runner home. Twins starting pitcher Chris Paddack of Austin, Texas struck out 10 White Sox batters and saw his earned run average drop from 8.36 to 5.57.

 512.
When were the other seven shutouts?

 513.
The White Sox were shutout the first time this season on March 28 in a 1-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers. That was followed by a 9-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on April 1, 3-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals on April 6, 4-0 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on April 8, 5-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on April 13, 2-0 loss to the Royals on April 15, and 7-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on April 19.

 514.
Individual Statistics

 515.
Yoan Moncada of Abreus, Cuba is leading the White Sox with a .282 batting average this season. However, he is on the 60-day injury list with a leg injury suffered running the bases. In the White Sox batting order on Monday, there were three starting White Sox batters who were hitting below the Mendoza Line to start the 2024 MLB regular season. Robbie Grossman was at .182, designated hitter Eloy Jimenez was at .176, and first baseman Andrew Vaughn was at .158.

 516.
Worst in the Major Leagues

 517.
The White Sox have a record of three wins and 19 losses for a winning percentage of .136. They are already 13 games back of the American League Central Division leading Guardians. The White Sox have a Major League least 45 runs this year. That is an average of just over two runs per game.

 534.

One night after the Vancouver Canucks made franchise history by scoring the fastest two goals in playoff history, the Carolina Hurricanes did the same. However, what we saw from Sebastian Aho of Rauma, Finland, and Jordan Martinook of Brandon, Manitoba of the Hurricanes on Monday was marginally more spectacular than what Pius Suter of Zurich, Switzerland and Dakota Joshua of Dearborn, Michigan achieved for the Canucks on Sunday. See, Aho and Martinook scored nine seconds apart in a 5-3 Carolina win over the New York Islanders, while Suter and Joshua scored a dozen seconds apart in a 4-2 Vancouver win over Nashville.

 535.
In-depth look at the two Hurricane goals

 536.
With the Islanders leading 3-2, Aho scored a dramatic game-tying goal with two minutes and 15 seconds left in the third period to tie the game at three. Andrei Svechnikov of Barnaul, Russia, and Seth Jarvis of Winnipeg, Manitoba picked up the assists. Then with two minutes and six seconds left in the game, Martinook scored the game-winning goal from Jack Drury of New York, New York. The Hurricanes went up 4-3, and would get an empty-netter from Jake Guentzel of Omaha, Nebraska to close out the scoring. Guentzel scored from Aho and Svechnikov with 56 seconds left. When Guentzel scored, the Hurricanes also set a franchise record for the fastest three goals in playoff franchise history of one minute and 19 seconds. With the win, the Hurricanes took a two games to none lead in the best out of seven series.

 537.
Who had the old records?

 538.
The previous Hurricanes record for the two fastest playoff goals came on May 19, 2021. That is when Aho and Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario scored 25 seconds apart in a 3-0 Carolina win over the Nashville Predators in game two of the first round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

 539.
The previous Hurricanes record for the fastest three playoff goals came on May 9, 2023. That is when defenseman Brett Pesce of Tarrytown, New York, Jesper Fast of Nassjo, Sweden, and Brent Burns of Barrie, Ontario scored two minutes and 55 seconds apart in a 6-1 Hurricanes win over the New Jersey Devils in game four of the second round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
