On the afternoon of May 3, in the community of Premruethai, Bang Phli district, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samut_Prakan_province">Samut Prakan </a>province, Phongsak was found unconscious and not breathing by his relatives after collapsing just after getting up from his bed.
The house, made predominantly of zinc sheets, was described as a hotbox with no windows, only a single door for entry and exit. The relatives immediately called emergency services, hoping to save Phongsak’s life.
Volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and local rescue workers rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts to revive him, including CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Phongsak passed away beside his bed, in front of his relatives and grandchildren.
The following day, at 3pm, yesterday, May 4, Thiramanas, 38 year old Phongsak’s sister, went to Rama Hospital to collect her brother’s <a href="https://thethaiger.com/tag/body">body</a>. She prepared for the funeral rites to be held at Sala 5 in Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai, also known as Wat Luang Por To, in Bang Phli district. The cremation was scheduled for tomorrow, May 6 at 4pm. The death certificate listed the cause of death as coronary artery and hepatic sclerosis.
Thiramanas revealed that on the day of the incident, she was informed that her brother was struggling to breathe due to the intense heat. He sought relief by asking a neighbour to spray him with water.
After a brief respite, he returned to his room but soon cried out for help, gasping for breath and feeling like his heart would fail. He instructed her to call for an ambulance, but before it arrived, he uttered his last words.
“When the ambulance gets here, it will be too late for me.”
Moments later, he lost consciousness with foam in his mouth, and his condition rapidly deteriorated. Phongsak had a history of an enlarged heart and pulmonary oedema, reported Sanook.
Phongsak’s dwelling, a single-story house with zinc roofing and walls, lacked any windows. He had lived there for about six to seven years, preferring solitude and often refusing to open the door to cool down, despite his sister’s advice.

He stated that the annual duration of the hottest period in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangkok">Bangkok</a> could potentially escalate from 17 days to 80 days, particularly between March and May.

The man suffered severe lacerations to his left arm and leg, and his left arm was severely deformed by the impact. An advance rescue vehicle from Thung Khru promptly transported the injured man to Taksin Hospital for urgent medical care.

Teams from Burana 294, Chen Long 50, Move Fast Zone 3 with vehicles 7 and 24, D Ward 37, and volunteers from Po Tek Tung stations at Tha Kham, Bukkhalo, and Buppha Ram deserve acknowledgement for their support and prompt response, reported KhaoSod.
The efforts of these teams, coordinated and communicated through Buppha015 zone 3 No.7 and Rescue V.2 notifications, were instrumental in providing the necessary emergency services and ensuring the victim received the medical attention required.

Yesterday, May 4, the investigation led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Prayong Sriwipan, an investigator at the Saensuk Police Station, resulted in the identification and summons of the 26 year old woman involved, Natch. She faced a charge related to public indecency and was given a <a href="https://thethaiger.com/tag/fine">fine</a> of 2,000 baht (US$54).

She broke up with him a few years ago and only recently learned about the videos when her friends came across them on several platforms.
The victim stated that her identity and private parts were clearly visible in the videos, which had ruined her reputation and caused embarrassment. She even thought about suicide when she realised the severity of the issue.
A contacted Apisit to inquire about the videos, and he admitted to sharing them on Twitter.

Although the official report didn’t reveal the exact number of violators caught during the operation, it did include images of plastic chairs being confiscated from the beach. Before this, similar enforcement operations conducted on the preceding May 1 and May 2 resulted in the arrest of a minimum of three illegal vendors, reported The <a href="https://thethaiger.com/news/phuket" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="Phuket">Phuket</a> News.
To aid their efforts in ensuring the beach is free from illegal activities, Patong Police are appealing to the public to report any illegalities observed on the beach by reaching out to the Patong Police Station on 076-342769.

His blood alcohol content (BAC) was recorded at 0.06%, which exceeded the legal limit in Thailand.
At the same time, a 35 year old Russian man, Iskander Sukhayil, was also charged with drink driving, with a BAC reading of 0.096%. A 48 year old Thai national, Chanasibthit, was likewise charged after he returned a BAC of 0.075 at the Patong Hill Intersection, Phra Mettha Road.

The unfortunate incident took place at 9.30am on Bypass Road 36 (Krating Lai – Rayong) in the Nong Pla Lai sub-district, Banglamung district, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chonburi_province">Chon Buri province</a>. The exact location was marked as kilometre 1+400 on the said road.
Officials from the Banglamung <a href="https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="8" title="Crime">Police</a> Station were immediately dispatched to the accident scene, along with rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon. They were met with the grim sight of a wrecked black Yamaha XMAX motorcycle on the roadside. Its rider, identified as Boonchanit Phrachan, was found lifeless in close proximity.
His body bore severe limb and neck fractures. His employee ID card revealed his profession as an e-commerce department employee and website administrator.
Upon investigating, police noted that the speedometer of the deceased’s motorbike was frozen at a reading of over 160 kilometres.
Near the scene was a white Toyota Fortuner with significant damage to its rear end. The impact was so intense that its spare tyre, which had been attached to the back, was dislodged. The 33 year old driver of the Fortuner, Thawachai Wiseschan, informed the police that he had parked his vehicle at the site for a while after visiting a doctor with his sister.
Recalling the incident, Thawachai mentioned hearing a loud noise from the back of his vehicle. Upon investigation, he found the victim’s lifeless body on the ground. Thawachai expressed that he did not hear any sound of brakes before the <a href="https://thethaiger.com/tag/collision">collision</a>.
Based on initial findings, Banglamung police stated that the victim might have tried to overtake another vehicle at an extremely high speed and failed to notice the stationary Toyota Fortuner on the roadside, reported The <a href="https://thethaiger.com/news/pattaya" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="5" title="Pattaya">Pattaya</a> News.
The police are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the body of the victim has been moved to a nearby hospital for subsequent religious rites.

The incident began at 3.30am when a report reached Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaowalit Suwanmanee, about a man behaving erratically in front of a rice porridge shop on Pattaya Central Road in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chonburi_province">Chon Buri province</a>. Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaowalit and his team were quick to arrive on the scene.
The officers found a 30 year old Thai man, wearing a red and white T-shirt and black jeans, sitting in the middle of the road in a state of agitation. On the arrival of the police, the man, who was shouting incoherently, took off on a run.
His attempt to enter the rice porridge shop caused a wave of panic among the Thai and foreign customers, prompting them to flee the scene. However, police officers, with the aid of civilians nearby, managed to subdue and capture him.
The man, who identified himself by the nickname Ton, confessed to consuming methamphetamine before his public display of agitation. Following his <a href="https://thethaiger.com/tag/arrest">arrest</a>, Ton was transported to Pattaya Police Station, where drug tests were conducted, and legal proceedings were initiated.
Detailing the incident, 51 year old Prawit Chanhong, who works as a security guard at the rice porridge shop, shared that the man emerged out of nowhere and began to act out in a strange manner right in front of the shop. Concerned for the safety of the customers, he wasted no time in alerting the police to apprehend the man.
Fortunately, despite the commotion, there were no reported injuries from the incident, reported Pattaya News.
“I saw this man appearing from nowhere and acting weirdly in front of the shop. I was concerned about the safety of the customers, so I immediately called the police to take care of the situation. I am glad that no one got hurt in the incident,” Prawit said.

Panthong Loykulnan, the spokesperson for the department, announced yesterday that importers of e-cigarettes, barakus, shishas, and e-barakus will be mandated to pay a fine equivalent to twice the cost of the product, customs tax, and VAT. All confiscated items will be treated similarly to other goods with import restrictions, such as liquor, cigarettes, garlic, onions, shallots, and goods that infringe copyright laws.
According to Panthong, this stringent measure is a response to the swift proliferation of<a href="https://thethaiger.com/tag/e-cigarettes"> e-cigarettes</a> among teenagers and students.
This week, two e-cigarette related cases were reported in Sisaket and Rayong. In Sisaket, district chief Kom Sangwong led a team to raid a city municipality shop, Monkey Tattoo, following a tip-off about illegal e-cigarette sales. As a result, the <a href="https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="8" title="Crime">police</a> seized 4,300 pieces of e-cigarette paraphernalia, such as liquids and mouthpieces, and 8,595 baht (US$234) in cash.
The shop’s employees, 27 year old Jakkririt, and 35 year old Arthikom, were arrested for selling e-cigarettes and possessing unlicensed cigarettes. They are now liable to pay quadruple the price of the confiscated items, roughly around 2 million baht (US$54,000), revealed Kom, reported <a href="https://www.bangkokpost.com/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="19" title="Bangkok Post">Bangkok Post</a>.
In a separate incident in Rayong, local police apprehended two suspects, 31 year old Watcharin Sicharoenpramong, and 22 year old Natchayanon Wongnoen, for allegedly selling e-cigarettes and e-barakus at their shops in the Mueang district. Along with the arrest, e-cigarette and e-barakus equipment, along with a list of orders, were seized, as stated by Traipob Wongrat, the governor of the province.

Police Major General Wittaya Sriprasert, CPPD chief, stressed the need for educators, school personnel, parents, and relatives of young children to collaborate in imparting knowledge about the health hazards linked with vaping.

Four surgery and internal medical wards experienced shattered windows, resulting in an unconfirmed number of injuries due to broken glass. In addition, the roof of a laboratory partially collapsed.
Somsak confirmed the damage assessment was completed. Building repairs are in progress and anticipated to be concluded within a week.
“All is back to normal now. Soldiers and officials from the Interior Ministry provided an emergency response, completed within two hours of arriving at the scene.”
Despite the storm, the hospital’s operations remained unaffected.
Summer storm
Somsak issued orders for hospitals and medical facilities located in storm-prone provinces to remain vigilant. They were instructed to bolster the strength of windows and doors and liaise with the military, the Interior Ministry and the Provincial Electricity Authority to ensure immediate assistance is available if a storm strikes.
Over in Phrae, the provincial public health office experienced a leaking roof due to storm damage to the control and dentistry rooms. The intense winds also tore off the roof of a nearby Thai traditional medicine station. Song Hospital in Song District is currently evaluating the storm damage and formulating a repair plan.
The storms that swept the northeastern provinces on May 3 had deadly consequences. Three construction workers died in Bung Kan, and another individual perished in Khon Kaen.
In Bung Kan, the workers were taking shelter from the storm near a crane at the construction site of the Friendship 5 project, which connects Bung Kan with Laos. The crane tipped over during the intense storm, crushing the workers. Rescuers spent over an hour retrieving the bodies from beneath the crane.
A hailstorm in Nong Bua Lam Phu uprooted trees, ripped off roofs, and caused widespread power outages in four districts, damaging at least 750 homes. The storm brought down a wall on a resident in Khon Kaen, resulting in instant death.
Elsewhere in the province, downed power lines and a water production station damaged by heavy rain resulted in hours of water supply disruption, reported <a href="https://www.bangkokpost.com/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="19" title="Bangkok Post">Bangkok Post</a>.
The Office of the National Water Resources predicts that the extreme heat and <a href="https://thethaiger.com/tag/summer-storms">summer storms</a> will persist over the upper north and upper northeast until May 9. The weather bureau forecasts the rainy season will start in the third or fourth week of May.

Theerachai Chaloemwanpen was apprehended by the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) alongside Metropolitan Police Division 1. Upon interrogation at the Din Daeng station, he confessed to his affiliation with the criminal syndicate that was responsible for the abduction of five Chinese nationals from a hotel room in Soi Pracha Songkroh 2, also known as Soi Sutthiporn.
Interestingly, Theerachai’s employment was facilitated by Weerayut Phetcharat, a traffic constable stationed at Phaya Thai. He was tasked with the role of an interpreter for the abducted Chinese nationals, earning a weekly wage of 15,000 baht (US$410).
The victims, all businessmen, were kidnapped from the hotel, with the abductors demanding a ransom of 2.5 million baht (US$68,000) to be paid in digital currency. Surveillance footage revealed an 11-member gang, composed of current and former police personnel, carrying out the abduction using four vehicles.
The victims reported the incident to the police at Din Daeng station on April 29, four days later. This led to an investigation that resulted in five arrest warrants being issued against the suspects, including Theerachai, Weerayut, and Atthawut Sumonrattanakul, a former senior sergeant major at Kannayao station.
Atthawut, who had been suspended from his position a few years earlier, was also apprehended on May 3. However, he declined to provide any evidence to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Thai_Police">police</a>, stating that he would only testify in court. Weerayut, on the other hand, managed to evade his arrest warrant, reported <a href="https://www.bangkokpost.com/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="19" title="Bangkok Post">Bangkok Post</a>.
Deputy Commissioner Noppasin stated that the police are presently on the hunt for the remaining six members of the criminal syndicate.
