59.
The 55th Annual World Series of Poker wasted little time tossing the fireworks in 2024, starting the festivities with a new event alongside a longtime tournament. The new event, the $5000 Champions’ Reunion, has now reached its final ten players, while the longtime tournament, the $500 Casino Employees’ Event, has only four survivors left. Those two tournaments will look to crown their champions and award the first bracelets of the 2024 WSOP.

60.
61.
62.
63.
Terry Fleischer, Halil Tasyurek Head Champions’ Reunion

64.
65.
66.
67.
99 players returned for Day Two of the $5000 Champions’ Reunion on Wednesday, looking to grind that number down to the official WSOP final table of nine. Leading the way at the start of this inaugural event, which provided free entry to every living Championship Event winner and offered bounties of 2024 WSOP Championship Event entries on these men, was one of those former World Champions, Qui Nguyen. However, the lead was tenuous for Nguyen as Xiaohu Liu was only two thousand chips behind Nguyen’s 663K stack and Asher Coniff lurked in third with 641K in chips.

68.
69.
70.
71.
At the start of Day Two, there was some unfinished business to take care of. With only 74 players taking down a cash from the 493 entries, 25 players would be leaving with squadoosh. Etching their name under the “squadoosh” line were notables like former World Champions Joseph McKeehen and Huck Seed, Dan Shak, and Roland Israelashvili. That bubble would pop in a clash between the most recent inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame, Brian Rast, and one of the hottest players of late, Ren Lin.

72.
73.
74.
75.
Lin would move his remaining 90K to the center from under the gun and Rast made the call from the pack. The rest of the table, including the cutoff, button, and blinds, decided not to get in the middle of the Titans, and the cards went to their backs:

76.
77.
78.
79.
Lin: A-Q off suit
Rast: pocket tens

Rast led pre-flop and, save for the flush potential from the monochrome 7♣ J♣ 3♣ flop (Lin held a dominant Q♣ over Rast’s 10♣), was never challenged. Two diamonds, a seven and a six, came on the turn and river, keeping Rast in the lead, Lin to the rail, and the 74 remaining players to the money.

80.
81.
82.
83.
After Lin’s departure, the cashout cage became the place to be. Greg Merson, David Williams, defending World Champion Daniel Weinman, Robert Mizrachi, Cherish Andrews, Daniel Negreanu, and Maria Ho were all a part of the parade to the cage. At the same time, notables such as Michael Acevedo, Aram Zobian, David Coleman, and Coniff made it to the final ten players. These ten men are going to play two-table poker to start Day Three action, chasing Terry Fleischer on the leaderboard:

1. Terry Fleischer (USA), 5.61 million
2. Halil Tasyurek (Turkey), 3.995 million
3. Yuzhou Yin (China), 3.6 million
4. Nenad Dukic (Serbia), 2.7 million
5. Asher Conniff (USA), 2.04 million
6. Michael Acevedo (Costa Rica), 1.885 million
7. Jonathan Pastore (France), 1.465 million
8. Aram Zobian (USA), 1.37 million
9. David Coleman (USA), 1.315 million
10. Bryce Welker (USA), 660,000

A champion will be crowned in this tournament this evening, with that champion earning the coveted WSOP bracelet and $408,468. The action begins at 1 PM (Pacific Time) and will be a part of the streaming offerings of PokerGO.

84.
85.
86.
87.
Four Remain in Casino Employees’ Event

Four men will determine the champion in Event #2, the $500 Casino Employees’ Event, this afternoon at 1 PM in the hallowed halls of Paris Las Vegas. Jose Garcia dominated the action during final table play and holds a sizeable lead over the three competitors arranged against him. Every player is guaranteed $26,698 from the nearly $500K prize pool (generated by an 1189-entry field), but the drive is to capture the top prize of $79,134 and the prestigious WSOP bracelet.

1. Jose Garcia (USA), 13.795 million
2. Richard Rothmeier (USA), 8.705 million
3. Lang Anderson (USA), 4.015 million
4. Alexander Green (USA), 2.99 million

Two other events have completed their Day One action at the 2024 WSOP. Event #3, the $500 WSOP Kickoff No Limit Freezeout, drew a 3485-entrant field and will see 523 players return on Thursday for play. Event #4, the $1500 Eight-Handed Omaha Hi/Lo Eight or Better tournament, sees James Chen and Upeshka de Silva heading a 928-entry field (of which 275 players remain) coming back to hold court over the Day Two festivities. It is just a hint of the action to come as the 2024 World Series of Poker opens for its first weekend of business.

110.
New York State Senator Jessica Ramos has effectively blocked a proposal from New York Mets owner Steven Cohen to build a casino to build a casino next to the Mets’ stadium, Citi Field. On Tuesday, Ramos issued a statement saying that she will not introduce legislation to allow for the rezoning of parkland to make way for the $8 billion casino project in conjunction with Hard Rock.

111.
112.
113.
114.
“We want investment and opportunity, we are desperate for green space, and recreation for the whole family,” Ramos said in her statement. “We disagree on the premise that we have to accept a casino in our backyard as the trade-off. I resent the conditions and generations of neglect that made many of us so desperate that we would be willing to settle.”

115.
116.
117.
118.

119.

After much careful consideration, I have made a decision regarding parkland alienation in Corona for the purposes of a casino.

My full statement: pic.twitter.com/wQEidzhrJs
— Jessica Ramos (@jessicaramosqns) May 28, 2024

120.

121.
122.
123.
124.
Ramos added that she has drafted an alternative bill to give Cohen and his partners another option to build a convention center and hotel “and more than double the proposed open green space.”

125.
126.
127.
128.
“The parcel in question is in strategic proximity to LaGuardia Airport, and allows for visitors and tourists to feed into our vibrant food scene while addressing the consequence of climate change in the area. Mr. Cohen and Hard Rock would still make a profit, albeit less.”

129.
130.
131.
132.
Senator Ramos is not the only lawmaker that can introduce a bill to change the area’s zoning, but it is customary in New York to defer to local lawmakers when specific issues affect their districts. According to The New York Times, it is unlikely that anyone would break with convention and introduce their own bill to satisfy Cohen.

133.
134.
135.
136.
This continues the lengthy quest for up to three casino licenses in the New York City area. Around a dozen developers are expected to throw their hats in the ring; Cohen is one of the highest profile candidates, spending more money lobbying for his proposal than anyone else so far. With the cutthroat competition, there is no guarantee that Cohen’s plan would be one of casinos chosen, even if he got the state legislature to approve rezoning for the land next to Citi Field.

137.
138.
139.
140.
One competing casino proposal is a $12 billion casino complex from Wynn Resorts and Related Companies (that’s the name of the company, not a group of companies related to Wynn) at Hudson Yards which includes a public school and a daycare center. Among the other rivals, Bally’s took over Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point and wants to buy the land for a $2.5 billion casino.

141.
142.
143.
144.
It is believed that, in reality, there will be just one casino license available, as MGM and Genting already have slots parlors and are thought to have a leg up on the competition, as it would be cheaper and faster for them to convert them into full-fledged retail casino resorts.

169.
Just three weeks before it was set to begin, WPT Macau has been canceled. In a short statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the World Poker Tour said, in part, “WPT, Wynn Macau, and Allied Gaming and Entertainment regret any inconvenience or disappointment for players from around the world who were planning to travel to Macau and play in the event.”

170.
171.
172.
173.
“WPT remains committed to working with Wynn Macau and AGAE in the future to bring world class poker tournaments back to the region,” the Tour added.

179.

180.
181.
182.
183.
The WPT did not provide any reason for the last-minute cancellation. The highly-anticipated series in Asia’s gambling hub was just announced in April.

184.
185.
186.
187.
Despite Macau’s reputation as a high stakes poker hot spot, there had been no tournament poker from 2018 until this past March, as China was cracking down on online poker. Macau is a special administrative unit that has been under Chinese control since 1999. That drought was broken by The Venetian Macao, which hosted the four-day Macau Masters, after the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau gave the event official approval.

188.
189.
190.
191.
The World Poker Tour has had two successful stops in Asia this year: WPT Cambodia and WPT Korea. WPT Macau, though, is now the second straight Asia WPT stop that has been called off.

192.
193.
194.
195.
Earlier this month, the “WPT Vietnam 2024 – Passport to the World Championship” was nixed. The setback was unexpected; Dua Tin, a Hanoi media outlet, published an article saying that the event had not been authorized by the Department of Culture and Sports. In that article, government officials confirmed that the Crown Poker Club had not, in fact, collected the required approvals.

196.
197.
198.
199.
The cancelation came only days before the WPT Vietnam event was to start. The World Poker Tour said it was refunding buy-ins, but many players had already shelled out for travel and it seems that they were still on the hook for those expenses.

200.
201.
202.
203.
The World Poker Tour does have some events that will directly compete with the 2024 World Series of Poker, which started yesterday. The $25,000 WPT Alpha8 Trifecta events will all be held at Wynn Las Vegas on June 25, July 3 (the day the WSOP Main Event begins), and July 10.

204.
205.
206.
207.
The next WPT Main Tour stop in the United States is the WPT bestbet Scramble in November.

208.
The post World Poker Tour Abruptly Cancels WPT Macau appeared first on Poker News Daily.

All former WSOP Main Event champions received a free seat in the tournament, but with that gift comes a cost: a bounty on their heads. It’s not a cash bounty, though. Anyone who eliminates a former Main Event champ from the tournament receives a free entry into this year’s Main Event.

324.
Leading the 99 players who survived from the original field of 493 is none other than 2016 WSOP Main Event champ Qui Nguyen, with 663,000 chips. It’s a tight race at the top of the leaderboard, though, as Xiaohu Liu is just 2,000 chips behind and Asher Conniff looms in third place with 641,000 chips.

326.

329.
330.
331.
332.
There was some champ-on-champ violence, as well. In a battle of the blinds, Chris Moneymaker (2003 champion) put his last 45,000 chips at risk pre-flop with pocket Kings. The legend Johnny Chan (1987, 1988, lost to Mike McDermott heads-up at the Taj) made the call with A-K and took the lead on a 7-Q-A flop. The turn and river were of no help to Moneymaker and he was resigned to hit the rail.

343.
344.
345.
346.
The opening event ended Day 1 close to the money – 74 players will cash. The min-cash is $9,141 and the winner will bank $408,468. Of course, there are also several Main Event bounties out there, juicing the prize pool. The 99 remaining players will return at noon local time to play another ten levels.

347.
348.
349.
350.
In addition to the Reunion event, three more tournaments will be in action on Wednesday: Day 2 of the $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em event, and Day 1 of both the $500 WSOP Kickoff No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout and $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better.

377.
378.
379.
380.
A woman has been arrested for allegedly colluding with a table game dealer at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in 2023. According to KLAS, Yuk Wong faces five felony counts of cheating at a gambling game and one felony count of conspiring to cheat at a gambling game.

381.
382.
383.
384.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board issued a warrant for her arrest last year, but it wasn’t until May 15 – two weeks ago – that she was apprehended. It was, perhaps ironically, unlucky for Wong, as she was pulled over by a police officer for driving with an expired registration. He ran her information, saw she had a warrant out for her arrest, and took her into custody.

385.
386.
387.
388.
Wong allegedly conspired with the dealer in the game “I Luv Suits Poker.” Both of their Facebook statuses were set as “in a relationship” with the other. Wong told investigators that she “she had seen [the dealer] previously before and likes to gamble at games he is dealing because he helps her understand the game and helps her win.”

389.
390.
391.
392.
According to security footage, the dealer was helping her win by paying off her losing hands.

393.
394.
395.
396.
Standard table game

397.
398.
399.
400.
In I Luv Suits Poker (what a name, right?), the player(s) and the dealer are dealt seven cards face down from a standard 52-card deck. Players must initiate the betting before the deal with an ante, similar to blackjack. The goal is to make a flush with as many of the seven cards as possible and beat the dealer’s best flush.

401.
402.
403.
404.
The greatest number of cards a player has of a suit is called their “maximum flush.” The maximum flush is the first ranking method, so if a player has four clubs, they beat the dealer’s three hearts. The second ranking, if both the player and the dealer have the same size maximum flush, is by value, just like in poker. Thus, A-9-8 beats K-J-4.

405.
406.
407.
408.
After looking at their cards, players can decide if they want to fold or raise. If they fold, they lose the ante bet. Raise values are based on a player’s maximum flush. After all betting decisions have been made, the dealer flips over their cards and compares them to the players’ hands. The dealer must have at least a nine-high, three-card flush to qualify. If the dealer does not qualify, everyone wins their antes and the raises push.

409.
410.
411.
412.
Not subtle about it

413.
414.
415.
416.
Back to the Mandalay Bay case, investigators allege 17 total instances of cheating between Wong and the unnamed dealer. In court documents, investigators wrote, “It should be noted, during all hands that Wong fraudulently concealed a faulty flush, she fraudulently placed the card so that it is hidden in the middle of her hand.”

417.
418.
419.
420.
It sounds like the dealer paid Wong’s losing hands, but they felt that she couldn’t just lay her seven cards on the table, as it would be obvious to observers and security cameras that the hand didn’t win. Thus, Wong would hide a card among the others, which would still make it look like a losing hand, but would also cause anyone who noticed to doubt themselves, thinking that maybe they just didn’t see the hand correctly. Basically, it’s harder to prove a negative.

421.
422.
423.
424.
Of course, once the alleged cheating was reported and Nevada Gaming Control Board agents took a close look at video, they could see what was going on.

446.
At long last, the 2024 World Series of Poker is upon us, with Tuesday marking the first of over a month and a half of wall-to-wall poker action in Las Vegas. Just like last year – and for the foreseeable future – the WSOP is being held on the Strip at both Horseshoe and Paris.

447.
448.
449.
450.
There are two events on Tuesday: $5,000 Champions Reunion No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout (8-Handed) and the traditional first day tournament, $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em.

451.
452.
453.
454.
Event #1 should be a good time. The brand new event is a normal $5,000 freezeout (wow, look at that…an actual freezeout), with one twist. Anyone who eliminates a former WSOP Main Event winner gets a free ticket into this summer’s Main Event.

455.
456.
457.
458.

460.

461.
462.
463.
464.
Those tourneys are slated to run three and two days, respectively, so things will be even busier tomorrow when they are in their second days and two more tournaments begin. The pair are Event #3: $500 WSOP Kickoff No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout and Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better (8-Handed).

465.
466.
467.
468.
All told, there are 99 live bracelet events and another 30 online for players in Nevada, New Jersey, and Michigan on the newly-formed WSOP Online platform.

469.
470.
471.
472.
The 2024 WSOP Main Event begins July 3 with the first of four starting flights, one each day for four days. There are also four Day 2 flights, but Days 2A, 2B, and 2C will all run on July 7, while Day 2D, always the largest, will be by itself on July 8. After that, the field unifies on Day 3 and the tournament runs all the way through July 17 with just a single day off before the final table.

473.
474.
475.
476.
And for those of you who are planning to try to grind to the top of the WSOP Player of the Year leaderboard, remember that the rules have changed this year. No longer is it about playing as many tournaments as possible to gather as many cashes as possible in hopes of accumulating enough points.

477.
478.
479.
480.
Now, at least in the WSOP’s mind, it’s quality over quantity. Of course, players can still grind dozens of tournaments to chase the POY trophy, but now, only a player’s top ten points results count toward the leaderboard standings. And perhaps most significantly, only one of those results can be from an online event.

509.
The 2024 World Series of Poker starts tomorrow and with it, so does the chase for the WSOP Player of the Year title. But before you plan out your 50-event POY grind schedule, the WSOP announced on Sunday that it has changed the rules for the series-end award.

510.
511.
512.
513.
In years past, those who wanted to compete for Player of the Year would load up their WSOP calendars with as many tournaments as possible, believing that gave them the best chance to earn enough points to finish atop the leaderboard. That strategy still might work just fine, but with the new rules, it looks like the WSOP is trying to go for quality of wins over quantity.

514.

523.
Now, rather than counting every score, the World Series of Poker will only tally a player’s top ten points results, with a minimum of five needed to qualify for the POY award. Thus, playing tons of events could still benefit someone who wants to win the crown, but sheer volume will no longer give a player as big of an advantage as it once did.

524.
525.
526.
527.
This may prove controversial: many poker players look at a leaderboard competition as a grind, which means those who are willing to put in the time and effort to play as much as possible should be rewarded for it (provided they also produce results). Limiting leaderboard totals to ten results hurts the players who enjoyed that day in, day out push to play dozens of tournaments.

528.
529.
530.
531.
The flip side of it is that there are certainly those who don’t feel like someone should be able to win Player of the Year just because they have the time and financial means to enter more tournaments than everyone else. Again, someone does need to achieve excellent results, but to many, this is a welcome “quality over quantity” fix.

532.
533.
534.
535.
Get to Vegas

536.
537.
538.
539.
The rule change that is sure to be debated the most, though, is that players can only have one result from an online bracelet event count toward their POY leaderboard total. Online bracelets are considered real bracelets just like the ones awarded for live events, but apparently for POY purposes, they are not equal.

540.
541.
542.
543.
Poker pro and host of “The Chip Race” poker podcast David Lappin believes the timing of the rule change is incredibly convenient because Ian Matakis won it last year after cashing 22 times – including one bracelet win – with nine of those cashes coming online.

544.
545.
546.
547.
Poker purists still don’t love online bracelet events, so seeing someone win POY with such an online-heavy resume (even though he had more live cashes than online), didn’t necessarily sit well. Lappin said he isn’t necessarily against the new rule, but rather that, “I just don’t think that we would be seeing this rule change if Shaun Deeb or Negreanu won last year with the same results.”

548.
549.
550.
551.
All open events during this summer’s World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, as well as the Nevada/New Jersey (and we would assume Michigan) online bracelet events, count toward the Player of Year leaderboard.

593.
Later this week, the 55th Annual World Series of Poker will begin its play. The Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas will be abuzz as both professional and the greenest amateur players look to claim poker’s biggest prize. There is also another prize on the line for these players – ranking points on the two major Player of the Year races, which normally set up for the fall run towards crowning poker’s best.

594.
595.
596.
597.
In these races, it is a surprisingly diverse field. Adrian Mateos has used his dominance in international play to take the edge on one of the countdowns, while Jesse Lonis has made his bones in “High Roller” play. Whether either of these men will be atop the standings following the 2024 WSOP is a huge question.

598.
599.
600.
601.
Mateos Leads International Contingent

602.
603.
604.
605.
On the CardPlayer Magazine Player of the Year Race, Mateos has used an outstanding month of May to surge to the top of the standings. Some of the work came during the European Poker Tour stop in Monte Carlo, where the Spaniard made the final table of the €25,000 High Roller event and came up just short of the final table in the €5,000 Main Event. But it was Mateos’ trip to Montenegro for the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series where he separated himself from the pack.

606.
607.
608.
609.
Mateos would earn five cashes during the run of the Triton series. Four of those tournaments would earn him points toward the POY, including a victory in a $50,000 tournament and a runner-up finish in a $200,000 tournament. In those two tournaments alone, Mateos racked up over 2100 points and pushed his name into contention for the CardPlayer POY.

610.
611.
612.
613.
Here are the current Top Five on the CardPlayer Magazine Player of the Year rankings before the start of the 2024 WSOP:

1. Adrian Mateos, 5764 points
2. Michael Watson, 4584
3. Stephen Chidwick, 4308
4. Punnat Punsri, 4157
5. David Coleman, 4134

Of the Top Ten players on the CardPlayer list, eight of those players are from outside of the U.S.

614.
615.
616.
617.
Lonis Uses WPT Stop to Amass His Points

618.
619.
620.
621.
Lonis would take a much different route to assuming the lead on the Global Poker Index Player of the Year table. Lonis won the 2024 World Poker Tour stop at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL, to snare over 400 points for one of his thirteen-point-earning finishes. Along with his work earlier in April at the U. S. Poker Open, Lonis was able to squeak past Stephen Chidwick for the top slot on the board.

622.
623.
624.
625.
What is most interesting about these rankings is how they reach different conclusions. As you see with the CardPlayer rankings, Lonis is not in the Top Five there, but Mateos is not in the Top Five of the GPI POY. It is a quirk in how the two systems tabulate points for the players, but it does give poker fans something to discuss.

626.
627.
628.
629.
Here are the current Top Five on the Global Poker Index Player of the Year rankings prior to the start of the 2024 WSOP:

1. Jesse Lonis, 3535.03 points
2. Stephen Chidwick, 3401.74
3. Michael Watson, 3339.26
4. David Coleman, 3254.59
5. Daniel Dvoress, 3196.01

630.
631.
632.
633.
Kristen Foxen Leads Ladies’ POY Race

634.
635.
636.
637.
Perhaps the more entertaining race for a Player of the Year will come from the women. Kristen Foxen has been able to slip out to an early lead in the GPT Ladies’ Player of the Year race, in part because of early season success in some High Roller tournaments. Foxen has amassed 2937.44 points (good for #67 overall) but a host of players, including former POYs and a Women in Poker Hall of Famer, are on her heels to force her to work for the title:

1. Kristen Foxen, 2937.44 points
2. Cherish Andrews, 2739.79
3. Victoria Livschitz, 2425.78
4. Nadya Magnus, 2207.14
5. Maria Ho, 2016.34

638.
639.
640.
641.
The 2024 WSOP could very well wreak havoc on these rankings. At the 2023 WSOP, four players earned two bracelets (Ryan Miller, Chris Brewer, Chad Eveslage, and Josh Arieh) which put their names in the mix for not only the WSOP Player of the Year but also the overall race. Can one of the players in the current rankings go on a big run during the WSOP and seize control of the race? We will see by the midpoint of July how everything shakes out.

670.
Ahead of the start of the 2024 World Series of Poker, Caesars Digital and WSOP officials have announced a revamp of their online poker site, WSOP.com. Under the new moniker WSOP Online, the new site will allow the three states that allow online poker play – Nevada, New Jersey, and Michigan – to take part in a compacted action for the first time. The timing of the announcement is perfect for poker players as a massive schedule of online WSOP bracelet events was also announced.

671.
672.
673.
674.
“Long Overdue”

675.
676.
677.
678.
“This platform upgrade is long overdue and is a big win for our players,” said Danielle Barille, Vice President of Online Poker at Caesars Digital. “The best is yet to come for WSOP Online tournaments, and we’re thrilled to bring Michigan players into the fold with Nevada and New Jersey, resulting in a better experience, more value, and the biggest prize pools of the year.”

679.
680.
681.
682.
WSOP Online is encouraging players in the three states to immediately update their software to ensure they can take advantage of the new offerings. In New Jersey and Nevada, players will have to reregister under the new software and a new username will be required, but all existing balances, tournament tickets, and rewards will be transferred over to the new software within 72 hours of the launch of the new platform. That is expected on May 27, with the start of the WSOP coming the next day.

683.
684.
685.
686.
There will be plenty of events for the new WSOP Online. Satellites will be available for all land-based events, some with buy-ins of only $1, and daily single-table satellites will be a primary feature.

687.
688.
689.
690.
Massive Schedule of Official WSOP Bracelet Tournaments

691.
692.
693.
694.
The schedule of online bracelet events is the biggest in the history of the WSOP. Thirty different bracelet events will be contested beginning on June 1, with Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays being the days that bracelet tournaments will be held. The tournaments will include a $333 “Triple Treys” tournament celebrating the National Basketball Association Finals and bring a $10,000 WSOP Online Championship (to be contested on July 11) to the online arena.

695.
696.
697.
698.
Five ‘High Roller’ tournaments will also be a part of the roster of events. These tournaments will be in a hybrid format, with opening action on the five dates (June 18, June 29, July 10, July 11, and July 13) playing out online. Once those tournaments reach the final six players, they then will be paused to allow players to come to Las Vegas to play for the bracelet (on July 14 (June 10 & June 29), July 15 (July 10-11), and July 17 (July 13).

699.
700.
701.
702.
There will be other bracelet events held that are state-specific, including the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania was not added to the new WSOP Online because, at this time, Pennsylvania has not joined the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) that would allow it to pool players with the other states. Without their participation in the MSIGA, Pennsylvania is still off in the wilderness of the fractured U. S. online poker market.

703.
704.
705.
706.
A full slate of events for each state can be found for Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania by visiting WSOP.com. When WSOP Online goes live, however, it will usher in a new era of online poker for those in the states affected.

733.

734.
Fans of Mike ‘The Mouth’ Matusow have been waiting for a treatment of his life for quite some time. A ghost-written autobiography in 2012 told the story from Matusow’s perspective, but it seemed that the four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner was still hiding some things. Fast forward a decade later and a documentary will attempt to tell the full story, warts and all, of the polarizing Matusow.

735.
736.
737.
738.
Documentary Premieres Sunday at South Point

739.
740.
741.
742.
The South Point Casino in Las Vegas will be the place to be to check out the documentary on ‘The Mouth,’ simply called Matusow. A red carpet walk and drinks will be served from 3 PM to 4:30 PM at the Grandview Bar in the casino. Seating for the screening will begin at 4:30 PM and run until 5 PM at Theater #13 on the grounds of the casino.

743.
744.
745.
746.
The documentary looks to be a lengthy one. The screening time of the film will be from 5 PM until 7:30 PM, presumably because there will be a Q&A (with the subject matter?) following the film. After the screening and any extras, there will be a celebrity poker game held that has been organized by the founder of the Charity Series of Poker, Matt Stout.

747.
748.
749.
750.
Plenty of Subject Matter

751.
752.
753.
754.
Many could think that there are more entertaining subjects for a documentary treatment (Phil Hellmuth? Phil Ivey? The Full Tilt fiasco?), but Matusow’s life provides plenty of subject matter that would fuel a doc.

755.
756.
757.
758.
After demonstrating his desire to gamble at an early age (he was in Gamblers’ Anonymous meetings while in high school), Matusow struggled as a gambler until he helped to back Scotty Nguyen at the 1998 World Series of Poker. After Nguyen won that year’s World Championship, Nguyen cut Matusow some of the winnings that gave ‘The Mouth’ a bankroll. That bank would be critical for Matusow, as it funded his first WSOP bracelet win in 1999.

759.
760.
761.
762.
The next 25 years would be a mix of highs and lows. In 2001, Matusow would make the final table of the WSOP Championship Event and win his second bracelet in 2002. 2005 would bring another final table trip for Matusow and a victory in the Tournament of Champions, making Matusow the first person to win two million-dollar paydays from poker tournaments in the same year.

763.
764.
765.
766.
At the same time, however, Matusow’s personal life was off the rails. He did six months in jail for selling drugs to an undercover Las Vegas police officer and, along with his treatment for gambling addictions, has also had several incidences where he became addicted to prescription painkillers. Bankroll management also has not been his friend – there have been several periods in his life where Matusow has admitted he was broke.

767.
768.
769.
770.
There is also the polarizing nature of his personality that comes into play. His acerbic style, needling his opposition by berating them both personally and for their card play, has worked for and against him (remember Matusow’s devastation after needling eventual World Champion Greg Raymer in the 2004 WSOP). He has also been a divisive personality on social media, embracing right-wing and conspiratorial thinking that has alienated him from much of the community.

771.
