They began their week in a home matchup against the Troy Trojans. The Trojans were coming off of a stretch where they had won four out of their last five games and were gaining momentum.

 45.
Tech got off to the exact start they needed to have — at the plate. Led by a home run from senior Mallorie Black, the Jackets took a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning. However, the Trojans did not relent.

 46.
After a five-run second inning and a three-run third inning, Troy took control of the game as the Jackets struggled to get batters out
47. and limit baserunners. This team has been one of the best offensive teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) under head coach Aileen Morales and showed they had the firepower needed to mount a comeback. They sent two runs flying over the wall home in the fifth inning and racked up another six runs in the sixth inning. Defensively, the Jackets tightened up and only yielded another run after their initial struggles.

 48.
Tech ended with a 14-9 win.

 49.
In the comeback win, the Jackets hit three home runs marking the 13th time this season they have hit at least three home runs. The trifecta of home runs marked 64 home runs on the year setting a record for the most under Morales and sixth-most in program history. Junior Madison Dobbins led the way on offense, ending the game with 47 runs batted in (RBI). This gave her the highest RBI count in the ACC and the fifth-most in the nation.

 50.
After the win, Tech was looking to keep the wins coming as they headed on the road to take on the Auburn Tigers. For the second time in the week, Black hit a home run in the first inning. Her home run tied her with Dobbins with 13 home runs apiece. The Jackets built a 3-0 lead after the first inning and played a strong defensive game, holding the Tigers scoreless through the first five innings.

 51.
However, facing a three-run deficit, Auburn brought in four runs to take a 4-3 lead after the penultimate inning. Tech could not score any runs in the final inning. After leading for the majority of the game, the Jackets lost 4-3. While it was certainly a disappointing loss, they needed to rebound and take care of business in their upcoming doubleheader.

 52.
The first game of the doubleheader was against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Entering the third inning, Tech was facing a 2-0 deficit. Sophomore Reese Hunter’s home run gave them a 3-2 lead. However, a torrid Louisiana Tech offense piled on 11 runs in the fifth and sixth to take a commanding 13-3 lead. At this point, the game seemed hopelessly out of reach. The Jackets, however, had other ideas. The comeback bid was led by Black as she knocked in a three-run home run in the sixth inning to cut the deficit down to seven. Tech kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the seventh inning. Black hit a grand slam to turn a once 13-3 deficit into a 13-10 game. The comeback attempt fell short as the Jackets lost 13-10.

 53.
After back-to-back heartbreaking losses, Tech matched back up against Auburn for the second game of the doubleheader. In the second inning, the Jackets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. The Tigers did not back down as they combined to score three runs in the second and third innings to make it a 5-3 game. Tech responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning to regain a five-run lead, 8-5. Auburn would go on to combine for three runs again in the fourth and fifth innings and cut the deficit to an 8-6 game. In the sixth inning, senior Sara Beth Allen hit her third home run of the game to put the Jackets up 10-6. Allen’s home run put her in special company as only the fourth player in school history to hit three home runs in a single game.

 54.
Auburn added one run in the sixth inning and made it a three-score game. The Jackets were held scoreless in the seventh and final inning and gave the Tigers the bats back with the score 10-7. Auburn only had one out before making it a 10-8 game. Senior Jin Sileo’s strong defensive plays ended the comeback bid from Auburn and gave Tech a 10-9 win. This is the Jackets’ first win at Auburn since 2002. A powerful offensive hitting day brought Tech’s home run total to 72, the fifth-most in program history. On the defensive side, they had their 21st inning-ending double-play,
55. which leads the ACC.

 56.
Despite the losses to Louisiana Tech and Auburn, this is still one of the most complete teams in the ACC and can make real noise in the conference. Tech looks to take the lessons learned from this week into a game against Alabama State on April 9 before hosting the Louisville Cardinals in a conference series.

 77.
The Jackets looked to continue their success in their first of three games against the Pitt Panthers on April 5 at the Charles L. Cost Field. Tech started the game off strong, scoring five runs before the Panthers could score one. Pitt would attempt to catch up with runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, but Tech would only solidify the lead with senior catcher Matthew Ellis securing an runs-batted-in (RBI) walk in the ninth inning. This was one of three RBIs for Ellis in the game, with the other two runs coming from a two-run home run scored earlier in the game.

 78.
Junior pitcher Aeden Finateri also had an impressive performance. Having pitched 5.2 innings, he struck out four players, only allowing for three runs in the time he was at the mound. Finateri has been one of the most reliable arms in Tech’s rotation, as evidenced by him having the second lowest earned-run average (ERA) among the team’s starting pitchers. The following day, the Jackets faced off against Pitt again hoping to continue their winning streak; however, the game did not play out as they may have hoped.

 79.
Tech took the lead with a run in the first inning after an RBI walk from Ellis. However, the Panthers were quick to catch up, tying the game 1-1 by the end of the second inning. The game was closely contested from that point forward with the third and fourth inning seeing no runs scored on either side. In the fifth inning, Pitt reclaimed the lead with another run, but by the end of the sixth inning, Tech had tied once more thanks to a RBI walk from freshman infielder Carson Kerce.

 80.
Even with an impressive defensive performance by senior leftfielder Trey Yunger and sophomore outfielder Parker Brosius in the field, the Panthers were able to score a final run in the ninth inning to secure the walk off win, after another two scoreless innings for both sides. With one loss and one win to their name in the series against Pitt, the Jackets had a lot riding on the final game in the series on April 7. The Jackets started strong, going into the third inning 3-0.

 81.
Ellis scored the first run for Tech, and the game, in the first inning. Senior first baseman John Giesler padded the score further with a home run in the second inning, and Yunger furthered the lead with another RBI walk. The Panthers tried to catch up but freshman pitcher Tate McKee was at a career best, and in five innings, he notched nine strikeouts. The Panthers eventually succeeded in getting one run with McKee at the mound, putting the game at 3-1 going into the sixth inning.

 82.
The sixth inning saw no runs on either side, but the seventh inning saw explosive performances from Tech. Within the inning, freshman third baseman Ryan Jaros secured an RBI walk and both Ellis and Yunger scored home runs with Ellis hitting an impressive 484-foot home run. In an impressive play on Pitt’s part, the team mirrored Tech with three points in the next inning, but Tech still managed to get a run — keeping the score still predominantly in Tech’s favor with 7-4.

 83.
Going into the final inning, neither team scored — cementing a Tech victory in not only the game, but the series. Coming off an impressive series of games against both Pitt and Presbyterian, Tech will face Georgia Southern at Mac Nease Baseball Park on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m. before welcoming an ACC opponent with a three-game series against Virginia Tech at home

The men beat Louisville 4-2 and Notre Dame 4-3. The women swept Clemson 4-0. The men were led by No. 104 senior Keshav Chopra who won all of his completed games. The Lady Jackets were led by No. 53 senior Carol Lee.

 104.
The weekend began at home in the Ken Byers Tennis Complex where the No. 22 Lady Jackets took on the Tigers. The match started out with the doubles point. The No. 18 ranked pairing of junior Kate Sharabura and Lee played senior Eleni Louka and junior Jenna Thompson but the game would go unfinished due to Jackets dominating the other two doubles games. Freshman Given Roach and sophomore Alejandra Cruz swept their opponents 6-0 and junior Kylie Bilchev and freshman Scarlett Nicholson breezed through their matchup 6-2 to secure the doubles point for Tech. With the doubles point, the Jackets only needed three singles wins to secure the win. Those wins came quickly — Sharabura eliminated her opponent with a 6-1, 6-3 match win to give Tech the advantage. Nicholson followed up with a win of her own 6-4, 6-0. To finish off the contest, Lee overcame her match 6-0, 7-5.

 105.
The win pushed Tech to 12-7 overall and 8-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). On the road, the men went up to Louisville, Ky. to take on the Cardinals. The match started off well with the No. 19 senior duo of Marcus McDaniel and Chopra defeating their opponent 6-3. The Jackets’ pairings of freshman Krish Arora and senior Andres Martin in conjunction with freshman Richard Biagiotti and junior Rohan Sachdev could not claim victory and put the Jackets at a 1-0 deficit heading into singles’ matches.

 106.
Fortunately, Tech showed new life in the singles’ competition. Sachdev swept his opponent 6-1, 6-3 to tie the match at one. Biagiotti, Sachdev’s doubles partner, gave the Jackets the lead thanks to a 6-4, 6-4 win. McDaniel kept the momentum going with a 6-2, 4-5, 6-3 victory to put Tech within one game of the match win. Louisville would respond with one game win but Chopra clinched the matchup for the Jackets 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. It was the Jackets’ 15th win of the year.

 107.
After clipping the Cardinals’ wings, the Jackets went up to South Bend, Ind. to take on the Fighting Irish. Like the match in Louisville, Tech fell behind early thanks to two swift losses in doubles play to make the score 1-0 Notre Dame. The Jackets came back from the doubles point thanks to a 6-1, 6-4 win by McDaniel. No. 16 Martin gave the Jackets the lead due to a 6-3, 7-5 win. Notre Dame tied the game at two apiece, but Chopra responded immediately with a 7-5, 7-6 win to put the Jackets one win away from clinching the match. Arora stepped up for the Jackets to secure the match win 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. This win gave the men’s team a 16-6 record overall and 6-4 in conference play.

 108.
After a victorious weekend for the Jackets, their next few matchups are all in anticipation of the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C. The Lady Jackets finish off their season at home with two conference matchups against North Carolina rivals. They take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack on April 12 and Wake Forest Demon Deacons on April 14 to conclude their regular season. Currently sitting at the fourth spot in the conference, Tech will look to improve their ranking ahead of the ACC Championship.

 109.
The men also finish off their regular season with ACC matchups, but will take on both of the ACC’s Virginia schools at home. They play the Virginia Tech Hokies on April 11 and the Virginia Cavaliers on April 13. The No. 6 Jackets are looking to capitalize on their momentum and prepare for success in ACC tournament play.

The Jackets sent their usual starting five, senior Christo Lamprecht, grad student Bartley Forrester, sophomore Hiroshi Tai, and freshmen Carson Kim and Kale Fontenot with an additional pair of individuals (sophomore Aidan Tran and senior Aidan Kramer). The field in Lake Oconee, Ga. was highlighted by archrival University of Georgia Bulldogs, ACC foe University of Virginia Cavaliers and the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.

 130.
Right out of the gate, the Crimson Tide blitzed the field by shooting a first round 267 (-21) to open up a nine shot lead on the second place team. While the Jackets played solidly, carding a team score of 280 (-8), they immediately found themselves in a deep hole if they wanted to take home the hardware. Leading the way for Tech was Tai shooting a 68 (-4) that was good enough to tie him for fourth heading into the second round. Shockingly, the score of Lamprecht, who had been the most successful Tech golfer all season, did not count in the opening round.

 131.
Heading to round two, head coach Bruce Heppler and the team knew that another round of 280 (-8) would not be enough to dent an enormous Alabama lead. Unfortunately, the Jackets carded that exact score, and lost eight strokes to the Crimson Tide as they shot a 272 (-2). Despite the mediocre score, Tai continued to contend for the individual title firing another 4-under par round of 68 to move into solo second place. Tai would need a historic final round as he trailed the leader, Alabama’s Jonathan Griz by seven shots.

 132.
Sitting in fifth place as a team and trailing first place by a large margin, Tech was most likely out of the team title, but finishing ahead of rival Georgia was still on the cards. While the Jackets fired their worst team score of the week, a 286 (-2), it was still enough to move them to fourth place, but still behind the Bulldogs. Tai, who had led the team all week, shot a disappointing 75 (+3), while Lamprecht, who had performed poorly to his standards in the first two rounds, tied for the low final round with a 5-under 67. To much surprise, individuals Tran and Kramer finished their tournament at or better than all five of the Tech golfers counting for team score.

 133.
After finishing fourth in the Linger Longer Invitational, the Jackets traveled back out west to play in The Goodwin at TPC Harding Park in the largest field of the year boasting over 30 collegiate teams. TPC Harding Park, located in the Bay Area, showed why it was the host of the 2020 PGA Championship, as the wide majority of collegiate players struggled to string together good rounds. In the first round, coach Heppler decided to keep the lineup identical to Linger Longer and the Jackets found themselves in seventh place, but only four shots behind the leaders. Fontenot was the only Jacket under par shooting a 1-under par 69. With a crowded leaderboard, the Jackets stood well within striking distance of a team title after round one.

 134.
The second round was much of the same for the Jackets. Kim was the only one under par shooting a 69 (-1) and the team shot a 284 (+4), one worse than their performance a day prior. All that being said, despite being in sixth place the distance between them and the leaders only marginally grew and they were only five shots back heading into the final round.

 135.
Both Kim and Lamprecht were tied for 18th heading into the final round. TPC Harding Park played close to two shots easier in the final round and the team scores showed. Four of the top five teams shot under par and with that, the Jackets one-under par round as a team was only just enough to crack into the top five. Forrester shot a 66 (-4) which was good for the round of the day and enough to tie him with Lamprecht for a t-11 finish.

 136.
Following The Goodwin, the Jackets will compete in the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla., and then head to Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. for the ACC Championships. Notably, the Jackets will be without their star and number one amateur in the world for the Calusa Cup, as Lamprecht will be competing in The Masters after receiving an invitation from winning The Amateur Championship last summer. Still, despite Lamprechet’s absence, they were able to finish fourth at the Calusa Cup. Three Tech golfers finished among the top-20 with Forrester and Tran tying for 12th place in the individual standings.

 137.
Hopefully, the Jackets can gain some momentum in these events heading into the most important stretch of the year, NCAA Regionals and Nationals. Although their performance at the Linger Longer was not up to their usual standards, they showed signs of bouncing back in the Calusa Cup as they get ready for the critical stretch of the season.

This match wasn’t just any game; it was a confluence of celebrations — Senior Day, Founders Day and a pivotal moment marking 100 years of modern lacrosse in Georgia, established by Dr. JB Crenshaw at Tech.

 160.
In a remarkable confluence of historic milestones, Ken Lovic, the head coach of the Tech Lacrosse Program, achieved his 300th career win, a momentous occasion that coincided with Founders Day. Lovic, at the helm since 1997, has been a cornerstone of the Tech lacrosse program, guiding it through decades of competition, growth and success.

 161.
The stakes were high, with the winner securing second place in the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) North and the privilege of hosting a quarter-final game, while the loser would be faced with playing at the University of Florida. The atmosphere was electric, with fans packed around the field and the presence of the pep band and the iconic Ramblin’ Wreck elevating the energy to new heights.

 162.
The game unfolded with both teams taking cautious strides, but it was Tech that found the net first. Junior midfielder Asher Wagnon broke the deadlock, showcasing his agility and skill to dodge and score, setting the tone for the Jackets. The early lead was fortified by precise teamwork, as junior attacker Brooks Baro connected with fellow junior attacker Pierce Quarles and then sophomore attacker Joseph Rose in quick succession, displaying the Jackets’ fluid offensive play. Sophomore midfielder Matt Seifert and freshman midfielder Andrew Belli’s contributions rounded off a dominant first quarter for the Jackets, giving them a comfortable four-goal lead.

 163.
The Bulldogs, true to the spirit of a rivalry game, showed resilience. They capitalized on an extra-man opportunity early in the second quarter, but Quarles was quick to respond. The back-and-forth continued, with the Bulldogs narrowing the gap to 7-4 by halftime, setting the stage for a tense second half.

 164.
The physicality of the game was another noteworthy element, with both teams displaying a level of intensity typical of a game against Georgia.

 165.
The third quarter saw Georgia mount a comeback, utilizing an extra-man opportunity to score swiftly and add two more to their tally, taking a lead for the first time. Baro’s solo effort was the only respite for the Jackets in a quarter dominated by the Bulldogs.

 166.
Senior goalkeeper Peter Zagrobelny’s ability to deny the Bulldogs, particularly during their surge in the third quarter, kept the Jackets within striking distance and provided the team with the confidence needed to mount their final push for victory.

 167.
Facing adversity, Tech’s defense, led by junior defender Hudson Higgins, sophomore defender George Corbin, and senior short-stick defensive midfielder Carrington Kelsey, held firm in the final quarter, turning away Bulldog advances with determination. Zagrobelny’s outstanding performance, including five crucial saves in the last quarter, was pivotal. Rose’s knack for being in the right place at the right time brought the Jackets within striking distance before the freshman sensation Belli stepped up, scoring twice in quick succession, showcasing the depth and future promise of the Jackets’ squad.

 168.
The climax came with a spectacular sequence that saw sophomore midfielder/face-offer Ben Skopicki win a crucial faceoff, leading to Baro’s decisive shot that extended the Jackets’ lead. Despite a late goal by the Bulldogs, freshman midfielder DJ Louis and Wagnon combined to seal the victory for Tech, sending the fans and team into jubilation.

 169.
The effectiveness of Tech’s extra-man unit, particularly in the crucial stages of the game, was crucial for the Jackets’ victory. The ability to convert these opportunities into goals was a testament to the team’s cohesion and the strategic play designs drawn up by the coaching staff.

 170.
The victory was not just a win but a testament to the seniors’ legacy — goalie Seb Cook, short-stick defensive midfielder Kelsey, defender Curran Myers, short-stick defensive midfielder JoJo Banks and short-stick defensive midfielder Andrew Kowblansky and Wagnon — who concluded their final regular season with a memorable victory over the Bulldogs.

 171.
As the team prepares to host the Auburn Tigers in the SELC Tournament quarter-final, they carry forward not just the hopes for a championship but the rich history and tradition of lacrosse at Tech.

 172.
They will face plenty of competition in their playoff bracket as they look to defend their 2023 SELC championship. The team earned their title by beating South Carolina 10-7 in last year’s championship and will look to parlay a SELC win into avenging their loss in last year’s quarterfinals.

With little time between the indoor and outdoor seasons, it can be challenging to transition between the two. The first meet of the semester was at Tech, so this was the teams’ first on the road. Given the rainy conditions of that weekend, the Jackets have not had many chances to shine thus far, but Tech still rose to the occasion with a strong road opener.

 192.
There were many top-10 finishes across every distance, but their strongest performances on the track came in the 800 meters. In the women’s race, the Jackets took third through eighth. They were led by distance runner Gracie Marston who finished with a time of 2:11.21. As a sophomore, she has consistently had great performances throughout cross country, and this shows that the young runner is likely to have a strong outdoor season as well. For the men’s race, distance runner Jeremiah LaDuca finished in fifth (1:53.90). The Jackets did not have as many standout performances in higher distances, but they had many returners such as senior Tristan Autry. He was out for many months, but he still returned with an impressive 1,500 meter run in 4:04.03. Autry is likely to continue to improve throughout the season. The 100-meter dash also saw success with sophomore Eric Singleton Jr., a two-sport athlete in both football and track and field, placing second with a blistering 10.56. Freshman sprinter Jade Ofotan also placed fourth in the women’s race with a time of 11.86. Both athletes are freshmen, showing the bright future of the program with the plethora of young talent. They have been getting better and better throughout the year, and this is one of the best openers they have had in a long time.

 193.
Not only did the Jackets have a strong weekend on the track, but they also performed well in field events. Senior jumper Cameron O’Neal and junior jumper Omar Arnaout finished second and third respectively in the men’s high jump. The height of their jumps were 2.28 m and 2.08 m which sets the standards high for the rest of the season. Senior high jumper Camille Trotman similarly finished second in the women’s high jump with a height of 1.64 m. Tech has always done well in field events and this shows they are likely to continue to maintain these high standards.

 194.
There were many top-10 finishes at the relays. The ACC can be quite a competitive field and they rose to the occasion. This is an important season for the Jackets. Having a facility like the Michael K. Anderson Building, a state-of-the-art home for the track and field team, has been increasing support for track and field at Tech. This has only been augmented by the announcement of ACC Outdoor Relays at the George C. Griffin Track. Their successes have only been cemented by the performances in Tallahassee.

 195.
They are likely to have another great showing in two weeks as they head to Gainesville, Fla. for the Tom Jones Memorial before returning home to Atlanta for the exciting Tech Invitational on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20

The mens’ team faced off against formidable opponents No. 15 Florida State and Miami, while the womens’ team took on Notre Dame and Louisville. Each match was filled with thrilling moments, captivating the audience and showcasing the talent and resilience of the Jackets on both teams.

 216.
On March 28, the No. 35 Jackets womens’ tennis team opened their five-match homestand with a nail-biting 4-3 victory over Notre Dame. The team secured the crucial doubles point early on, with wins on courts two and three. Junior Kylie Bilchev and freshman Scarlett Nicholson dominated court three with a 6-2 victory, setting the tone for the evening. The Jackets then solidified their lead with a win on court two, where sophomore Alejandra Cruz and freshman Given Roach defeated sophomore Jamilah Snells and freshman Berta Miret 6-2, clinching the doubles point and giving Tech an early advantage. The singles matches were a rollercoaster, with Tech winning five first sets but Notre Dame pushing four matches into three sets. Bilchev secured a quick win on court two, but it was junior Kate Sharabura’s remarkable comeback on court six that highlighted the evening, winning a three-set match after being down 5-1 in the final set.

 217.
Tech’s momentum continued into March 30 as they extended their win streak to three matches with a resounding 7-0 victory over Louisville. The team dominated from the start, sweeping the doubles. Wins from senior Carol Lee, senior Mahak Jain, and Sharabura were particularly impressive, with Lee clinching the win at the top position.

 218.
However, singles play was intense as neither Tech or Notre Dame could really pull away. Tech took the first sets, but Notre Dame fought hard, pushing four matches to a third set. Despite the Fighting Irish’s resilience, highlighted by wins from senior Julia Andreach, junior Nibi Ghosh and senior Yashna Yellayi in three-set battles, the Jackets won on courts two, three and six. Cruz’s win on court three was particularly notable since she clinched the match for Tech in a tight battle. The victory improved Tech’s record to 11-7 overall and 7-3 in ACC play.

 219.
The Jackets mens’ team had a challenging start to their week, facing No. 15 Florida State on March 28. Despite a strong effort in doubles, Tech fell just short in a thrilling 4-3 match. A bright spot for the Jackets happened when senior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc of Florida State, who had been unbeaten in singles play since last season, was finally bested by Tech senior Andres Martin in a straight-sets victory.

 220.
One standout moment came from when Seminole freshman Azariah Rusher, stepped in at the last moment on court six. After winning a tense first-set tiebreaker, Rusher dominated the second set 6-2, capturing a crucial point for Florida State and demonstrating the depth of talent within the Seminoles’ squad.

 221.
However, the Jackets bounced back on March 30 against the University of Miami, securing a 4-1 victory. The team started strong by winning the doubles point, with the the No. 48 ranked pair of senior Marcus McDaniel and senior Keshav Chopra securing a key win on court one. In singles, Tech took control with wins from junior Rohan Sachdev and freshman Krish Arora putting the Jackets in the lead. Martin secured a victory with a hard-fought win on the top court. The match clincher came from freshman Richard Biagiotti stepping up on court four to secure the win for Tech over Miami senior Adrian Burdet.

 222.
Tech’s tennis teams continue to show why they cannot be underestimated in the ACC. With strategic play in doubles and resilience in singles, both teams have displayed exceptional skill and teamwork. As the season progresses, the Jackets look to maintain their momentum and aim for higher achievements in the conference standings and beyond.

 223.
The women’s team is set to continue their homestand against Clemson on April 5, looking to extend their winning streak and solidify their ACC standing. The men’s team aims to build on their victory against Miami and continue their pursuit of success in a highly competitive ACC that will show fans the true mettle of this team in competitive sets and matches as they look to make noise at the conference championships in two weeks in Cary, N.C.

Thus far, the Jackets have had a historic season — their 60 home runs tie the most in head coach Aileen Morales’ tenure with 19 games left to play, and Tech has posted their best start in the ACC since 2012 with a 9-4 conference record. Syracuse is seeking to improve their play in the ACC, struggling this season with a 2-7 conference record.

 244.
The Skytop Softball Stadium hosted Syracuse’s first home ACC series of the year as Tech stepped up to the plate on Thursday, March 28. Junior right-handed pitcher (RHP) Sophia Voyles got her 11th start of the season and held the circle for four innings while collecting two strikeouts.

 245.
After being walked, freshman right-fielder Gracie Hillman stole second in the third inning to put a runner in scoring position for junior left-fielder Madison Dobbins. Dobbins delivered to send Hillman home with a single. Senior third-baseman Mallorie Black singled to send Dobbins home and give the Jackets a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third. The fourth saw senior shortstop Jin Sileo glide to first off a bunt. A stolen base had Sileo on second before senior first-baseman Abby Hughes scored her on a crack to left field. Syracuse responded in the bottom alongside a single to right field by freshman second-basemen Makenzie Foster to score junior left-fielder Taylor Posner to cut Tech’s lead to 3-1.

 246.
Sophomore catcher Reese Hunter closed the inning after throwing out Foster on a stealing attempt. The Jackets extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth via junior center-fielder Ella Edgmon taking home on a passed ball. Voyles handed the circle to freshman left-handed pitcher Makayla Coffield. In the longest outing of her debut season, Coffield shut out and only allowed a single hit against the Orange. The Jackets continued the momentum of the last three innings by putting another run on the board. Sophomore Brionna Condon stepped to second base as the pinch runner for Hunter following a double.

 247.
With Condon in scoring position, Sileo struck a ball up the middle for a single and an RBI. The defense held strong behind Coffield’s closing three innings to give the Jackets the first victory of the series 5-1. This victory puts Tech at 9-4 in the ACC. This is the Jackets’ best record in the first 13 ACC games
248. during the Morales era.

 249.
The runs piled on quickly for the Jackets and Syracuse in their second matchup of the series. A walk put Dobbins on first and a single shot to left field by Black allowed Dobbins to advance to third. Black stole second to put two runners in scoring position for senior designated player Sara Beth Allen. Allen scored Dobbins and allowed Black to reach third after hitting a sacrifice fly to left field.

 250.
Black got home after graduate student second-baseman Tiffany Domingue took the ball to the depths of right field. The Orange retaliated by hanging a five-run first on junior RHP Kinsey Norton before Tech could grab a single out. With the bases loaded, a single to left field sent one runner home and another to right field sent two home to clinch a 3-2 Syracuse lead early.

 251.
Coffield took the circle for her second time this series but the Orange immediately took advantage of the three outs left as a sacrifice fly to right field scored another. A fifth run scored off a single to left field before a double play retired the inning for the Jackets.

 252.
Tech was unable to respond until the fourth inning behind Domingue’s eighth homer of the season. Domingue struck again in the fifth to collect two more RBIs off an oppo single to tie the game 5-5.

 253.
The Jackets’ defensive prowess was put on display as they held the Orange to five runs until the seventh. Fifth-year RHP Chandler Dennis relieved Coffield in the fifth.

 254.
Nearing the end of the seventh inning, extra innings seemed to be on the horizon. Syracuse put one on first base and hit a walk-off double to end the game 6-5 in upsetting fashion. The Orange rode the high of victory into Saturday’s game, collecting five runs in the first two innings. Another two runs in the fifth was too much for Tech who fell 1-7 in six innings to Syracuse.

 255.
After hosting the Troy University Trojans, the Jackets travel to Alabama to challenge the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Auburn University Tigers in a series of interesting matchups.

It has been a tumultuous season for the Jackets with a 16-10 overall record and a 3-6 conference record, respectively. Big wins against North Carolina State University (NC State), Cornell and Georgia State are interspersed with heartbreaking losses to the University of North Carolina (UNC) and Georgia. To kick off the ACC matchup, game one took place on Thursday, March 28 with the Eagles defeating the Jackets 10-3. The Eagles hit the ground running to put up the first points but the Jackets came back blazing on their tails.

 276.
It was a slow start for the Jackets despite the sunny and warm conditions, with the first points of the game put up in the fifth inning. The Eagles put up two runs in four of the first five innings to start the game, giving them an early advantage. The Jackets came alive in the fifth inning, with sophomore outfielder Parker Brosius reeling in the first points of the evening and senior first baseman Cam Jones sealing the deal for freshman outfielder Drew Burress with an RBI single. Jones and senior outfielder Trey Yunger finished the evening with two hits each.

 277.
Redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher (RHP) Carson Ballard allowed three runs in the first and early second inning, with junior RHP Mason Patel allowing four runs. Senior RHP Dawson Brown, freshman RHP Michal Kovala, junior LHP Camron Hill, juniorRHP Terry Busse, and sophomore RHP Demitri Diamant regained control of the mound, only letting one run during their combined time in the game.

 278.
The series continued in a Friday evening night game that the Jackets lost in the clutch by a score of 5-3. Tech and Boston College took a 2-2 tie into extra innings, but the Eagles mounted a final surge with two late runs in the 10th inning. This time, Tech took early control of the game with two runs in the second inning. Freshman catcher Vahn Lackey and Yunger put up the first two points before Brosius scored the third and final run. RHP Aeden Finateri went five innings, allowing one home run and inducing six strikeouts.

 279.
Finateri has emerged as one of Tech’s most reliable arms and used his command to great effect against a hapless Eagles lineup. Senior RHP Ben King picked up where Finateri finished, allowing only two runners on base. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not cover the game in extra innings as the Eagles offense figured out Tech’s pitching in the clutch.

 280.
With a series loss already in the cards, the Jackets could not avoid the sweep in the series finale on Saturday, March 30. The final score of 16-7 encapsulated the story of this series — moments of brilliance punctuated by ultimately falling short due to errors.

 281.
The Eagles scored five runs in the first inning, giving them an early advantage to begin the game. As a result, the bullpen needed to cover eight innings of work after starting pitcher Logan McGuire allowed four runs in the inning. Nine of the Jackets had hits in this game. At the plate, junior shortstop Payton Green led the Jackets with a double and a triple as Burress and Brosius brought hits of their own to a largely successful performance from the offense.

 282.
Late in the game, true freshman infielder Ryan Jaros hit his first career home run — a two-run shot — before sophomore outfielder Jett Lovett launched two doubles in the eighth inning. Ultimately, the offense could not make up for an overtaxed bullpen that was already reeling from the previous day’s extra-innings game. Fortunately, the Jackets also hosted the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Tuesday, April 2, with a 9-8 win in 10 innings to break their losing streak. After Presbyterian took a 5-1 lead, it looked like another rough outing for Tech’s pitching staff. Fortunately, Green launched a runs-batted-in (RBI) double before true freshman infielder Carson Kerce sent a RBI-double of his own two innings later to make it a 7-3 game. Although Presbyterian scored another run, their pitchers struggled with command, and the Jackets capitalized. Brosius, Jaros and Yunger all had quality at-bats and recorded hits that cut the lead to one before Burress drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the ninth. On the mound, Brown mowed through the Blue Hose’s hitters to the tune of five straight strikeouts, setting up Brosius for the game-winning bunt to drive the last run home and pull out the clutch victory.

 283.
The next ACC faceoff for the Jackets will be on the road against the Pittsburgh Panthers, with a three-game series starting on Friday, April 5 and continuing
284. through the weekend.

 285.
Though the Jackets have faced some challenges with pitching, the offense has continued to produce this season. Burress, Jones, Green and Ellis all have more than 90 at-bats this season alone and the Jackets have the second-highest batting average in the ACC.

 286.
The ACC playoffs begin May 21, with just under two months left in the regular season. With games against ACC rivals Virginia Tech, Virginia, Miami, Clemson, Duke and Florida State on the horizon, the Jackets are hoping to shake things up in the conference and prove to be a challenging opponent
287. across nine innings.

The women’s team sent two people to the Championships hosted in Athens, Ga. The men sent a record-tying nine to Indianapolis for the men’s championships. Mens’ and womens teams were represented in both the swimming and diving contests. The nine participants on the men’s side were senior Batur Ünlü in the 200 free, junior Mert Kilavuz in the 1650 free, junior Leandro Odorici in the 100 breast, junior Berke Saka in the 200 individual medley (IM), freshman Max Fowler in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, freshman Ricky Baluccini in both the 400 free relay and 800 free relay, junior David Gapinski in the 400 free relay, freshman Vitor Sega in the 800 free relay and freshman Robin Yeboah in the 400 free relay. The two representatives on the women’s side were freshman Sabyne Brisson in the 100 and 200 breast and senior Anna Bradescu in platform and 1-meter dive. Tech headed into the NCAA Championships coming off one of their better ACC championship performances in recent years. Both the men’s and women’s teams placed ninth while breaking many school records. The Women’s Championship began in Athens on March 21 where Bradescu dove in the women’s one-meter dive scoring 198.85 to finish in the top-50. The next day Brisson, who has school records in both the 100 and 200 breast, competed in the 100 breast, clocking just under one minute (59.70) and finishing 27th. On the last day of the Women’s NCAA Championship, both Brisson and Bradescu participated in their final events of the season.

 308.
Heading north to Indianapolis, the men hoped to put the icing on top of a successful season. On the first day, the 800 free relay team of Baluccini, Sega, Saka and Ünlü closed with a time of 6:21.60 that had them finishing in last place (21st). Going into the second day, Tech hoped to be more competitive than in the preliminary rounds. Kilavuz swam in the 500 free finishing 38th with a time of 4:18.45 and Odorici finished 38th as well in the 50 free with a time of 19.49. On the third day of the NCAA Championships, Tech had their best day with two top-20 finishers. Odorici swam a time of 51.97 in the 100 breast to finish 20th in the preliminaries and Fowler tallied 350.70 points in the 3-meter dive for a 19th place finish. In the fourth and final day of the men’s national competition, Kilavuz outlasted much of his competition in the 1650 free finishing 18th with a time of 14:48.88.

 309.
Tech finished the 2023-2024 season with multiple top-20 finishers in national competition. Looking back at the season, the Jackets won multiple meets, most notably over the University of Miami and East Carolina University. Top individual performances included a bronze medal for Fowler in the men’s 1M during the ACC championships and a fifth place finish for Bradescu in the ACC Championships to qualify her for Athens. The Jackets will have a young foundation to build on in the coming years and they are primed for future success in the water after a strong season. They should make noise next year in the ACC.
