19.
A huge honor for two Bluegrass legends.

A pair of Kentucky Wildcats legends have been named to the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame!

 20.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Tony Delk and Oscar Combs were part of the 2024 KSHOF class. They joined former Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and Kentucky Wesleyan SID Roy Pickerill in this year’s class.

 21.
Ranking fifth in Kentucky Basketball scoring history, Delk earned First-Team All-American and NCAA Final Four MVP honors while leading the Wildcats to the 1996 NCAA Championship, the program’s first title in nearly two decades.

 22.
Combs founded The Cats’ Pause in 1976, the first independent publication fully devoted to covering the athletics program at one university.

 23.
“The KSHOF Class of 2024 recognizes four outstanding individuals who represent a broad spectrum of sports and occupations – individuals who had a major impact on sports in the Commonwealth and on the national stage,” said Louisville Sports Commission President and CEO Greg Fante in a press release. “This year’s inductees have worked diligently to make a difference in their specific areas. And we are thrilled to honor them and their accomplishments in Freedom Hall, the KSHOF’s official enshrinement gallery.”

 24.
“It is with immense pride that we at Kentucky Venues, along with the passionate crowds at Churchill Downs and our colleagues at the Louisville Sports Commission, applaud the induction of four distinguished sports legends into the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame. Their legacies will be enshrined within Freedom Hall, serving as a place of inspiration for generations of Kentuckians who will walk these grounds,” said David S. Beck, President & CEO of Kentucky Venues.

 25.
A well-deserved congratulations to all four gentlemen!

 26.
Below are bios for all four of this year’s selections.

 27.
KSHOF Class of 2024

 28.
Oscar Combs. Hazard native Oscar Combs started covering UK athletics at the Hazard Herald in 1965 and became an innovator in the coverage of major college athletics. In 1976, Combs founded The Cats’ Pause, the first independent publication to cover a major athletic program (UK) in the U.S., marking the start of a nationwide industry. For 20 years starting in 1998, he was co-host on the UK radio network pre-game coverage and helped to build and expand the Wildcats’ fan base in football and basketball. Combs has won numerous awards from the Kentucky Press Association and in 1977 won the U.S. Basketball Writers Association feature of the year. Combs was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in 2000.

 30.
Tony Delk. Brownsville, Tenn., native Tony Delk was an All-American and NCAA Final Four MVP at the University of Kentucky (UK) who went on to a 10-year career in the NBA. A sharpshooting guard, Delk led UK in scoring three seasons (1994-95-96), scored 1,890 points and still owns the school record for three-pointers (283) and is second in steals (201). During his time at UK, the Wildcats were 119-18, won three SEC Championships, went to two Final Fours and won the 1996 championship. Delk earned SEC Player of the Year in 1996 and was the 16th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft by Charlotte. Delk played for eight teams, played in 545 games, averaging 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in his career, and went to the playoffs seven times.

 31.

 32.
Roy Pickerill. Louisville native Roy Pickerill has been associated with the sports information office at Kentucky Wesleyan College for 53 years, starting as a student assistant, serving as the sports information director (SID) for nearly 30 years and currently serving in an emeritus role. Pickerill was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall-of-Fame in 1999, inducted into the Great Lakes Valley Conference Hall of Fame in 2008, earned CoSIDA’s lifetime achievement award in 2016 and his Kentucky Wesleyan publications earned 30 national awards, including 20 “Best in the Nation” awards. In 2022, the CoSIDA Division II SIDs created a distinguished service award in Pickerill’s name.

 33.
Teddy Bridgewater. Miami native Teddy Bridgewater was a dominant quarterback at the University of Louisville (UofL) who played nine seasons in the NFL. A three-year starter at UofL who threw for 9,817 career yards and 83 touchdowns, Bridgewater earned MVP honors leading the Cardinals to a 33-22 win over no. 2 Florida in the 2013 BCS Orange Bowl. The next season, he passed for 447 yards and three touchdowns in UofL’s Russell Athletic Bowl win over Miami. He was drafted in the first round by Minnesota and played nine seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, Panthers, Broncos, Dolphins and Lions. Bridgewater was named to the Pro Bowl in 2015; his career passing numbers are 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns and 1,114 rushing yards.

 53.
Kriisa battled the Slovenian superstar in a FIBA World Cup qualifiers friendly.

The Kentucky Wildcats are bringing in Kerr Kriisa from West Virginia, a transfer guard who is poised to be among the best shooters on the roster.

 54.
Kriisa spent three seasons at Arizona prior to that, averaging over nine points per game in each of his last two seasons.

 55.
Now, bringing his talents to Lexington, the Cats have added a weapon to their backcourt; however, they are also getting a player who isn’t shy and won’t back down.

 56.
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic knows that as well from when Slovenia played Estonia in a FIBA World Cup quarterlies friendly. While Estonia was rolled by Slovenia, Kriisa did have a somewhat heated interaction with Doncic.

 63.

 64.
After the game, Kriisa made it clear he wasn’t backing down to the NBA All-Star.

 65.
“We don’t let people just step on us,” Kriisa told BasketNews.com. “Otherwise, we could have just stayed in Estonia and not even come here. If somebody says something to us, we talk back. He showed a reaction, so it means it’s pretty easy to get into his head, too.”

 66.
Kriisa getting in the head of his opponents is something he’s done frequently during his days at Arizona and West Virginia, so expect to see him continue to bring that fire in Lexington.

 67.
The 6-foot-3 Kriisa has improved every season at the collegiate level, shooting over 42% from deep this past season with the Mountaineers.

 68.
On a roster that will need his scoring and grit, BBN should be pleased with the type of player they’re getting.

 90.
Kentucky’s roster is taking shape.

The Kentucky Wildcats have been adding to their roster after the exodus of John Calipari gutted the team, as no players from last season will return to Lexington.

 91.
Kentucky also lost all of its class of 2024 recruits outside of in-state star Travis Perry, leaving it with just a handful of players before the last two weeks.

 92.
Mark Pope now has a real roster to work with.

 93.
The Wildcats added two major players Wednesday: Point guard Kerr Kriisa from West Virginia and shooting guard Koby Brea from Dayton. Both are strong shooters and should add some major court spacing to the program. They’ll join Perry, Collin Chandler, Amari Williams, Lamont Butler, Otega Oweh, Andrew Carr, and Brandon Garrison on the 2024-25 Kentucky Basketball roster, which will likely add a few more players before it’s all said and done.

 94.
The only thing really left for Kentucky to get is a go-to scorer who can round out the roster of ultra-talented shooters and defenders.

 267.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound native of Estonia was a class of 2020 international recruit ranked 69th overall and 12th among point guards via 247 Sports. He spent three seasons with the Arizona Wildcats, then transferred to West Virginia this past year but wasn’t eligible until the season half of the season. He averaged 11 points (42.9% shooting and 42.4% on 3s), 2.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in 33.5 minutes per game in 23 starts.

 268.

Kriisa entered the portal once the offseason began, and he’s now joining Mark Pope’s bunch. Pope actually pursued Kriisa twice, first out of high school, then in the transfer portal last offseason.

 269.
It was Kriisa’s time in Arizona that he became one of the better point guards in college basketball. After playing the 1 and 2 spots as a true freshman, Kriisa primarily ran the point over the next two seasons while helping the Wildcats win a combined 61 games.

 270.
In the 2021-22 season, Kriisa averaged 9.7 points on 34.8% shooting from the field and 33.6% from deep, 4.7 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game.

 271.
In the 2022-23 campaign, Kriisa averaged 9.9 points (37.2% shooting and 36.6% on 3s), 5.1 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game.

 272.
Kriisa now gives Kentucky some security at the point guard position, though he’ll probably be more of a limited role player and not someone who plays 30+ a game every night. Lamont Butler is also capable of running the point, so perhaps we’ll see Kriisa run the second unit off the bench.

 295.
 296.
Is Kadary Richmond still in play?

The Kentucky Wildcats are officially out for Deivon Smith.

 297.
When Smith first entered the transfer portal, Kentucky was quick to make contact and set up a visit, and the buzz grew that Smith was Kentucky’s to lose. However, things fell through, and Smith is no longer considering Mark Pope’s bunch.

 298.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander, Smith has set a final three of St. John’s, Washington, and West Virginia.

 299.

 300.

 301.
Another transfer update here—Utah transfer combo guard Deivon Smith is down to three: St. John's, Washington & West Virginia, sources say. No decision imminent. He'll visit SJU this weekend. Smith (13.3 ppg/7.1 apg/6.3 rpg) ranks among the better remaining players in the portal.
— Matt Norlander (@MattNorlander) May 1, 2024

 304.
 305.

 306.
Now, there’s actually some good news in this.

 307.
First, there was growing buzz that Louisville was pushing for Smith. I think we can all agree that having Smith fall through Kentucky’s fingers and into the waiting arms of the Cards would be a brutal gut punch, so that appears off the table.

 308.
But the real news here is that St. John’s is a finalist.

 309.
If you recall, the Johnnies are also in the mix for Seton Hall transfer Kadary Richmond, widely viewed as a top-10 transfer in this cycle. When Richmond first went portaling, St. John’s was viewed as the favorite.

 310.
The fact that Rick Pitino’s bunch is strongly in the mix for another point guard suggests that Richmond, who Kentucky has made contact with, is not a done deal for the Johnnies.

 311.
I also don’t think West Virginia is the choice, as they’re now the heavy favorites for Oklahoma State’s Javon Small and just got a prediction from Travis Branham to land the point guard. That potentially leaves this as a Washington - St. John’s battle for Smith, so root for Pitino there if you want to see Richmond land elsewhere.

 312.
Kentucky is now expected to land West Virginia guard Kerr Kriisa, but he’s probably more of a bench piece than a full-time point guard like Richmond would be. And I don’t think a potential commitment from Kriisa would prevent Richmond from coming to Kentucky.

 313.
Of course, this is all contingent on Kentucky even being a real threat to land Richmond, which isn’t clear at this time. Mark Pope and his staff have been great about not letting stuff leak out until the deal is done, so we’re still in wait-and-see mode when it comes to figuring out who Kentucky’s No. 1 point guard will be next season.

 314.
In other words...

 315.

 339.
Dayton Flyers transfer Koby Brea has committed to the Wildcats, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

 340.
This comes following an official visit Brea took to Lexington.

 343.
NEWS: Dayton transfer Koby Brea, the best shooter in college basketball, has committed to Kentucky, he told ESPN.

"God put me in a position to play for my dream school in my last year of college."

STORY: https://t.co/TMCPs5HWp8 pic.twitter.com/TOFQEeuZ0T
— Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) May 1, 2024

 346.
 347.

 348.
“Growing up, I was told I was dreaming too big whenever I’d say my dream was to play for the University of Kentucky,” Brea told ESPN. “I feel like God does everything for a reason, and He has put me in a position where I’m able to play for my dream school in my last year of college while playing for something bigger than myself.”

 349.
Brea was originally believed to be down to Duke and UConn entering last weekend, but in the game of recruiting, things can change quickly.

 350.
Duke pulled out of the race, and their visit was canceled, putting Kentucky back in contention and taking the place of that visit.

 351.
The Huskies added another transfer guard, Aidan Mahaney, on Monday, just after Brea’s visit ended on Sunday, resulting in them pulling out of the race. Mahaney was also strongly considering Kentucky and took a visit to Lexington over the weekend.

 352.
When Brea arrived in Lexington on Monday night, the Wildcats were the clear leader, and they locked it down.

 353.

 354.

 355.
Koby Brea:

958 D1 players shot 100 or more 3-pointers last year. Brea had the highest true shooting percentage out of all of them at a smoking 72.2 TS%. pic.twitter.com/gkRQedgkPT
— Alex Weber (@AlexWeberOn3) May 1, 2024
 356.

 357.
 358.
 359.

 360.
Brea is ranked as the 40th-best transfer on ESPN and the 100th-best transfer on 247 Sports. According to EvanMiya, which has more of an analytical look at things, Brea is the 79th-best transfer.

 361.
Coming out of Monsignor Scanlan High School in Bronx, New York, Brea was an unranked class of 2020 recruit. While he wasn’t a player exploding on the Grassroots scene, both of his parents come from the Dominican Republic, making him eligible to represent the Dominican National Team in the U-17 FIBA Centrobasket Championships.

 362.
There, Brea got to play against some of the best talent in the world. Ultimately, Brea committed to Dayton over a small list of other schools, such as Massachusetts, Manhattan, Iona, and Robert Morris.

 363.
As a freshman, Brea played in 16 games for Dayton but missed much of the preseason and all of the non-conference schedule due to an injury. He never really got comfortable and, because of this, received a redshirt.

 364.
As a redshirt freshman, Brea had a breakout season, earning A-10 Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player awards, notably leading the team in 3-pointers made, attempts, and percentage (42%).

 365.
After learning he had stress fractures in both tibias, Brea saw his play drop in the 2022-23 season. At that point, surgery had to be completed. “I had to learn how to walk again slowly,” Brea told the Dayton Daily News.

 366.
Fully healed in 2023-24, Brea had the best season of his college career. Playing the sixth-man role he became so comfortable in, Brea averaged career highs in points (11.1 ppg), rebounds (3.8 rpg), field goal percentage (51.2%), and 3-point percentage (49.8%). In doing so, he won his second Sixth Man of the Year award and helped lead Dayton to a Top 25 ranking and their first NCAA Tournament win appearance since 2015.

 367.
49.8% from 3 last season. That is the statistic that is going to jump off the page. The fifth-best 3-point percentage in the country, Brea did so on 201 attempts, making him one of the most efficient shooters in the country. That number isn’t an outlier as he shot 42.3% in 2022-23, his only other season he did not miss time due to injuries.

 368.
That shooting ability isn’t just limited to catch-and-shoot opportunities, as he is excellent at shooting off movement, whether that is coming off screens or creating for himself. To have the shooting efficiency and versatility he does in a 6-foot-6 frame is very rare.

 369.
No player comes without weakness, though. Brea’s two biggest are his unproven ability to get to the rim and his defense.

 370.
Shooting as well as he does, Brea doesn’t look to go inside often, with only 9% of his attempts coming at the rim. At 6-foot-6, he has the size, but he lacks some athleticism and quickness to get by more athletic defenders. That also hurts him on the defensive end, ranking 135th in EvanMiya’s defensive rating amongst all transfers. Interestingly, Kentucky transfer target Jaxon Robinson is just below him at 136th.

 371.
In Brea, Kentucky is getting a proven shooter with a good frame and four years of college experience. If you were hoping to see Kentucky land a replacement for All-American Antonio Reeves, Brea is probably the closest thing there was to getting for next season.

 372.
Take a look at the newest Wildcat below.

 395.
Williams is a 6-foot-10, 265-pound senior, and in his last season at Drexel, he averaged 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.9 assists per game.

 398.
“Yeah, even on my visit, it was crazy just thinking like, ‘I am actually at Kentucky.’ Because it is like one of those schools you see on TV, and seeing all of the guys that came through the ranks of that school, so it is definitely a surreal feeling, and even when they posted when I signed, it didn’t feel quite real and just seeing it in my bio all the time, so I don’t know when it really will hit me, but it is definitely a surreal feeling,” Williams says on the podcast.

 399.
Kentucky is starting to build out its roster. It has guard Travis Perry, guard Collin Chandler, guard Lamont Butler, forward Andrew Carr, and center Brandon Garrison.

 428.
A tough loss for the Cats.

As it turns out, Kentucky is no longer in the mix for Great Osobor.

 429.
Adam Zagoria and Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman have confirmed the Wildcats are no longer in the mix for Osobor, who just finished his official visit to Kentucky and will now visit the Louisville Cardinals.

 430.
Osobor is also testing the NBA Draft waters but is expected to play in college next season.

 431.

 432.
Is the Kentucky Wildcats’ frontcourt set for next season?

 433.
On Tuesday, Kentucky landed a pledge from Oklahoma State center Brandon Garrison. He joins Drexel center Amari Williams and Wake Forest forward Andrew Carr in what’s suddenly a crowded frontcourt. Garrison committed to Kentucky without even taking a visit to Lexington.

 434.
Those three are going to command a heavy dose of minutes, making it hard for Kentucky to land another high-impact big man...

 435.
So, what does this mean with Utah State forward Great Osobor, who’s wrapping up an official visit to Lexington?

 436.
According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Kentucky is out for Osobor.

 437.
However, Cats Pause’s Aaron Gershon says not so fast my friend.

 438.

 439.

 440.
From what I'm hearing this morning, UK is not 'out' on Great Osobor.

Are they the favorites like many assumed? Not sure.

Always seemed like he wanted to take all of his visits.

Remember, he's played his whole career with Danny Sprinkle who is at Washington where he'll visit.
— Aaron Gershon (@agershon99) April 30, 2024
 441.

 442.
 443.
 444.

 445.
As Gershon alluded to, Osobor is set to visit three more schools: Louisville (May 1st – 3rd), Texas Tech (May 4 – 6th), and Washington (May 7-9th). So for now, it appears we’re still at least a week and a half away from a possible decision from Osobor.

 446.
This past season, the 6-foot-8, 250-pound Mountain West Player of the Year averaged 17.7 points on 57.7% shooting, 9.0 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.3 steals, and 2.8 assists in 33.7 minutes per game. He’s widely regarded as a top-25 transfer this year.

 447.
However, Osobor has just one year of eligibility remaining, whereas Garrison has three, so that’s a factor to consider when debating if Kentucky should have taken Garrison now or pushed all its chips on Osobor.

 448.
Let’s see where things stand at the end of next week.
