20.
After a one-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, it became evident earlier this offseason that Odell Beckham Jr. would not be re-signing with the team. That is now official as he’s found a new home.

 21.
On Friday afternoon, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Adam Schefter reported that Beckham is signing a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins worth up to $8.25 million.

 28.

 29.
Beckham, 31, had a nice bounce-back season last year after missing extended periods of time in 2021 and 2022 due to injury. He appeared in 14 games, his highest mark since 2019, and caught 35 passes for 565 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

 30.
The former first-round pick finished second on the team in receiving yardage behind Zay Flowers, fourth in receptions, and first in yards per catch (16.1). Beckham’s role in the passing game fluctuated throughout the season and ultimately dwindled a bit down the stretch into the postseason.

 31.
However, he some memorable catches and plays, particularly during a stretch in the middle of the season. While he’s no longer the same dynamic athlete and premier wideout that he used to be, Beckham showed he still possesses playmaking ability last season.

 32.
For the Dolphins, he won’t need to be anything more than a complimentary receiving option, as Miami has one of the league’s top wideout duos in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Adding Beckham into the fold gives them arguably the most well-rounded core in the NFL.

 33.
The Dolphins are not on the Ravens’ opponents list for 2024, so the Ravens will not have to face off against Beckham until at least 2025 at the earliest. The Ravens ultimately opted to re-sign Agholor at a cheaper price and draft Devontez Walker in the fourth round to round out their own wide receiver room this offseason.

 53.
The Baltimore Ravens have announced their 2024 rookie class.

No more tracking and scouring social media platforms to find which undrafted players are heading to Baltimore. On Friday, the Baltimore Ravens announced their rookie class including their nine draft picks and 22 undrafted free agents.

 71.
Tea Leaf Takeaways

 72.
After drafting only one interior offensive lineman in the draft, that being a center, it’s an interesting to see only one offensive guard in the mix (Dalcourt). Now, there are three undrafted tackles they could be testing along the interior but the Ravens seem rather content in the currently rostered unit.

 73.
Last year, the Ravens brought in a tall crop of undrafted wideouts, with many of them at or above 6-foot-3. This season, they have only one receiver at 6-foot-2 (Washington).

 74.
Have to think safety is a spot the Ravens are looking at in this mix between Kane and the undrafted players, along with considering a deal after the compensatory pick deadline with a veteran. The Ravens likely want freedom to deploy Hamilton however they see fit.

In a surprisingly early turn of events, they were able to ink five members from their nine-man 2024 draft class to rookie contracts.

 95.
First-round cornerback Nate Wiggins who was selected No. 30 overall out of Clemson was the first to sign on the dotted line.

 109.
 110.

 111.
Only four of the Ravens’ drafted rookies have yet to sign their deals. The shortlist includes third-round outside linebacker Adisa Isaac, fourth-round wide receiver Devontez Walker,, fifth-round running back Rasheen Ali and sixth-round quarterback Devin Leary.

 112.
While it makes sense for the Ravens to not waste any time trying to get these contracts knocked out and out of the way, it is unusual to see so many first-year players agree to terms and sign this early, especially first-rounders.

 113.
Per the league’s official transaction wire, Wiggins is the first 2024 first-round pick to sign a rookie deal which is a far cry from what the Ravens have been accustomed to in recent years when it comes to their top overall selections. With the exception of fourth-year wide receiver Rashod Bateman who signed his first contract just 13 days after getting drafted, the Ravens have had to wait until mid-to-late summer before they could get their first-rounders signed.

 114.
In 2021, outside linebacker Odafe Oweh was taken four picks after Bateman at No. 31 overall and he didn’t sign until June 11. The Ravens doubled up on first-rounders again in 2022 with All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton who went at No. 14 overall and signed on June 7, and Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum who went at No. 25 overall and signed on June 2. Last year’s first-rounder, wide receiver Zay Flowers taken No. 22 overall, was the last member of his draft class to sign and it didn’t happen until June 14, just a few weeks before training camp.

 115.
Perhaps the Ravens’ ace in the hole when it came to negations this time around was the presence of Football Administration/Salary Cap Analyst Sophie Cortese. She is an up-and-coming executive who works closely with Ravens Vice President of Football Administration Nick Matteo and negotiated her first contract during this recent bunch of rookie signings.

 136.
Hayden Sweeney, PressBox

 137.

 138.
Wiggins has the coverage skills and height teams look for in an outside corner, but he weighed just 173 pounds at the Combine, raising concerns about his tackling and his ability to match up with big, physical NFL receivers.

 139.
But Davis doesn’t think Wiggins’ weight will be an issue, especially as he matures and spends every day in an NFL weight room.

 140.
“The weight thing is a big deal in certain situations, certain big people you’re taking on,” Davis said. “Maybe some bigger-sized receivers who might be able to body you off, but there’s a lot of times your quickness is going to win those battles, too.”

 141.
Under John Harbaugh, the Ravens have always played a physical brand of defense with an emphasis on strong tackling. If the Baltimore brass felt that would be an issue with Wiggins, Davis doesn’t think he would be a Raven.

 142.
“Obviously Eric DeCosta and his scouting group said, ‘We believe he will be a willing tackler for us,’” Davis said. “Because you can’t play in Baltimore if that person is not going to do that. The rest of the defensive back room will take issue to that, so he better come ready to go.”

 143.
Originally thought to be a potential first-round selection, Walker was plagued by drops at the Senior Bowl and saw his draft stock slip. But Davis doesn’t see many drops on his college tape and believes Walker’s size and athleticism make him a favorable target for Lamar Jackson.

 144.
“Bigger guys, bigger catch radius, all those things help a quarterback like Lamar who’s constantly on the move,” Davis said. “… I think there’s a big part of that with getting Tez Walker in the fourth round. [He] can run. Big, big target, and probably is better than where he got drafted. I like that pick for Baltimore.”

 145.

 146.
Ravens Questions Answered (And Unanswered) Following the Draft

 148. Ryan Mink, BaltimoreRavens.com
 149.

 150.

 151.
Unanswered: Who will be the Ravens’ starting guards?

 152.
Even though the Ravens have two open starting guard spots, they didn’t draft a guard. Center Nick Samac will get reps at guard, but it would be quite surprising for a seventh-round pick to break into the starting rotation immediately.

 153.
However, the Ravens fed the pipeline of young interior offensive linemen last year, taking Sala Aumavae-Laulu in the sixth round and Andrew Vorhees in the seventh. They join rising fourth-year guard Ben Cleveland as the top contenders to start, with veteran Patrick Mekari always capable of stepping in wherever needed.

 154.
The way the board fell was not favorable for Baltimore to draft a guard on the first two days. Instead of forcing it, the Ravens addressed their more glaring offensive line need by grabbing Roger Rosengarten in Round 2 and showed their faith in their internal guard options. The Ravens still retain the possibility of adding a veteran guard (either via free agency or trade) at some point this summer if they feel there’s a need after watching practice.

 155.
The competition at right tackle will be between Rosengarten and Daniel Faalele. Asked if there’s a chance Rosengarten could start immediately, Head Coach John Harbaugh said, “Oh, yes, absolutely. I mean, we drafted him with that idea – that he’ll compete for that.”

 156.

 157.
Dalton Risner? 161.
News flash: The Ravens don’t have a sure thing at left guard. Andrew Vorhees hasn’t played in a game in 17 months, Sala Aumavae-Laulu hasn’t played since an unimpressive preseason last year, and Josh Jones hasn’t lined up at guard since Week 1.

 162.
Risner, 29, is the best option remaining in a depleted guard class. He finished ninth among interior linemen in ESPN’s pass block win rate in 2023 and has started 73 games over the past five seasons. In 11 starts at left guard for the Minnesota Vikings last year, he graded out poorly as a run blocker on Pro Football Focus. According to Sports Info Solutions, the 6-foot-5, 312-pound Risner fared far better as a blocker on gap runs (1.7% blown-block rate) than zone runs (3.9%).

 163.
He’s used to waiting for a deal, too. Risner didn’t sign his one-year, $3 million deal with Minnesota until mid-September last season. According to PFF, he entered free agency projected to earn a contract worth $5.5 million annually.

 164.
“Just In case anyone was wondering… I’ve started 73 games over 5 years in the league… missing only 4 games due to injury… earning the starting spot amongst 3 different coaching staffs,” Risner wrote in March. “I’ve never asked for a bag, simply just a starting guard contract.”

 170.
If Evans (6-1, 246) stood 2 inches taller or weighed 25 pounds more, a team would have grabbed him by the fourth round. At his pro day, Evans posted a 41.5-inch vertical, and his shuttle and three-cone times were faster than any edge at the combine. He finished his Iowa career with 29 sacks, including four in the Citrus Bowl. 182.
It is a rare year that the Ravens aren’t adding to their draft capital with at least one compensatory pick. In 2025, they’ll load up with the maximum of four selections after losing key members of the roster in 2024, including Queen, Clowney and both starting guards (Zeitler and Simpson). In total, Baltimore said goodbye to a whopping seven qualifying free agents while only signing Henry as a qualifier. Henry’s modest salary canceled out one of their sixth-round qualifiers (Stone or Zeitler).

 202.
 203.
The former first-round and newly extended wideout plans to put it all together and stay on the field starting in 2024.

When the Baltimore Ravens selected former University of Minnesota standout wide receiver Rashod Bateman in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, expectations were high. He was viewed as one of the most complete prospects at the position, capable of being a threat at every level of the defense with inside-outside versatility, elusive run-after-catch ability, crisp route-running, strong hands and field-stretching speed.

 204.
Unfortunately, availability has been his only weakness since entering the league, causing him to miss extended time or be hampered in each of his first three seasons. Despite his struggles with the injury bug that has included core muscle surgery and a Lisfranc foot injury, the Ravens opted to bet on the flashes of explosive playmaking from Bateman, signing him to a two-year extension worth $15.25 million that he officially signed on Monday.

 205.
In an interview with Glenn Clark Radio on Wednesday, Bateman talked about a myriad of topics including the new deal he inked, his desire to reward the Ravens for their faith in him and how he still believes there is a much higher level he can reach.

 206.

 207.
Getting extended despite having only played in 35 of a possible 52 career games including the postseason in three years came as a bit of a surprise to many Ravens fans and even Bateman himself apparently.

 208.
“It feels good. Definitely didn’t see it coming, but it definitely means a lot,” Bateman said. “Just knowing that they want me here and having them in my corner, having the team trust me, having some type of security. It’s kind of like a fresh start for me. I’m definitely excited, looking forward to it. I’ve got a lot to prove.”

 209.
His desire to prove himself right about what he can be and the kind of impact he can have in an offense is much greater than any inclination he might have to want to prove his doubters and skeptics wrong.

 210.
“I want to prove to myself that I can actually be a star,” Bateman said. “Be someone the team can depend on, [be] reliable. I’ve been that, but my career took some hits, some ups and downs, but I’m in a good spot right now. I feel good, I’m healthy, excited, all my chips in the basket. So it should be a good year.”

 211.
Bateman isn’t fueled by his critics of which there have been many both within the media and throughout the fan base. However, he understands where the sometimes overly harsh criticism of him comes from given where he was drafted, what was expected of him and what he has struggled with health-wise since entering the league.

 212.
“I don’t blame anybody for feeling how they feel,” Bateman said. “I was a first-round draft pick and there’s expectations. … Those are the cards I got dealt and it’s tough. I’ve never been through it before, but it definitely made me stronger, made me appreciate the game more than I did before. … I feel like everybody knows what I can do, so I just have to go out and do it now.”

 213.
There have been several reels of Bateman running crisp and sometimes absolutely filthy routes to gain almost instantaneous separation and get wide open numerous times last year all over social media.

 214.

 219.
 220.

 221.
The connection between him and franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson just wasn’t there in 2023 and Bateman took full responsibility for the lack of natural feel he had with the two-time league MVP because of his unavailability prior to the start of the season as a result of his extended recovering from his 2022 foot injury.

 222.
“Lamar trusts me. I’ve trained with Lamar, I’ve worked out with Lamar,” Bateman said. “But last year, we did not have that connection. And that’s due to me, my injury, I wasn’t able to train with him in the offseason. I missed all of training camp. For a quarterback, it’s tough. It’s a feeling thing —you got to feel your receivers.”

 223.
Bateman made franchise history by becoming the first of their six receivers who were taken in the first round to sign a second contract with the Ravens. With the departure of three-time Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency who he began to out-snap and out-play down the stretch starting in Week 15, he is poised to have a bigger role in the passing game moving forward and could form one of the best duos in the league with 2023 first-rounder Zay Flowers who broke several franchise rookie records last year.

 224.
The Ravens coaching staff and front office are extremely high on Bateman and can’t wait to see what he can do with a clean bill of health, a fresh start and playing in an expanded more featured role moving forward.

 225.

 232.
“Rashod is going to get opportunities this year,” head coach John Harbaugh said at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. “He ran routes really well. He worked super hard. He was healthy for the first time – even as the year went on, he got healthier, and you could see it in his play. The ball got to him, [and] when it did, he made some great plays. The ball is going to get to him a lot more next year. He’s going to be ready to go.”

 253.
Here is what the team’s top two decision-makers had to say about the nine-man draft class which they hope will have a profound impact on their outlook for the 2024 season.

 261.
 262.

 263.
DeCosta:

 264.

 265.
“In my opinion, [he’s] the best cover corner in the Draft. [He’s] highly athletic [and has] fantastic feet. Really, in our opinion, [he’s] a guy that can go into being a true shutdown-type corner.”

 266.
“For us, it was always, ‘If Nate [is] there, we [are] going to pick.”

 267.
“He’ll gain weight. If we get him up there with some of the scouts, he’ll pack it on pretty quick. Get him with ‘Manny’ in the [cafeteria]. We have a plan for him.”

 268.
“When I think of Nate [Wiggins], I just think that he is a ridiculous athlete – very, very quick-footed, efficient. He’s fast. He’s tough. He’s competitive. In our division, we play a lot of really good receivers, and you have to get off the field on third downs. And, we were blessed last year to have a lot of depth in the secondary, and it really helped us quite a bit. And this is a guy that can come in here and play meaningful football right away for us. We’re excited about that.”

 269.
“I think we just look at everybody differently. We just study the player for who he is, what he does and what he puts on tape. [We] look at his skillset. We talk to people, which is a very important part of the process. We follow the guy around, and I think at that position – it’s a very hard position to play. A lot of guys can’t do it. The biggest thing is – and John always says it – you’ve got to actually cover people. You’ve got to guard people. It’s a hard thing, and Nate has proven that he can do that very, very well. He’s a young player. We love that about him. He’s 20 years old. [He’s] one of the fastest players at the combine. [He’s] silky smooth, and he will compete. He does tackle very well. People at [Clemson] are high on him. We were getting texts from the head coach. Dabo [Swinney] was texting us during the first round [saying], ‘Please take this guy.’ So, we’re just very excited about him.”

 280.
“You see him as an outside corner, that’s kind of where he’s made his hay, but he plays inside as well, and he did it in college. We’ll just continue to be versatile through those DBs. [We’ll] move them around and let them play in different spots. That gives us another quality starting corner; I’d say we have three legitimate starting corners. He has to come in and prove it and do it and all that, but we expect him to do it. We were excited. We were looking for Nate [Wiggins]. We were in the defensive room, actually Chris Hewitt’s office – [it was] me and about five of the defensive coaches before the Draft started [at] about 7:45 [p.m.], it came up, ‘What if Wiggins falls to us? Wouldn’t that be something?’ We were like, ‘Nah, that’ll never happen. That couldn’t happen, but how good would that look in our defense?’ It worked out, and it came true. So, we’re excited.”

 281.
“When you watch the tape; he comes up and smacks people. That’s what he does. He’s not afraid of the physical part of it at all. He’s a complete corner. First of all, he’s rangy, and he can run. He’s got very good feet, he changes direction, he puts his hands on people in press, and he runs up and tackles people with some physicality. The weight doesn’t impede him at all, and he’s going to put on weight; he’s over 180 [pounds] now. He’s a young guy. He’s 20 years old”

 282.
“[Nate Wiggins] is coming out for a reason, [and] he’s a first-round pick for a reason. He’s very talented. He’s ready. He thinks he’s ready, [and] his head coach [Dabo Swinney] felt like he was ready [to come] out. And he’s a young guy, but that’s opportunity – the way we look at it – and he’s determined. He’s a motivated guy. He’s talking about that he has a lot to prove. We both got on the phone with him and talked to him, and he’s talking about what he has to prove, so our response was, ‘Alright, let’s come in here next week, and let’s get to work. Let’s get started on it.’ He’s planning on being a hard worker, and if he does that, we’ve got a path for him. We’ve kind of got a plan for him, and we’ll have him ready to go.”

 310.

 311.
“Roger Rosengarten [is] a tackle that we’ve really have been following since the Senior Bowl. We were fortunate – as an underclassman – with the rule changes, [that] he was able to be down there this year, and we watched him at length and followed him and saw him at the [NFL] Combine, [and] we interviewed him at the Combine. He was a player that we had kind of had our sights on today. He was one of our top players in the entire [second] round today, and I think [we are] fortunate that we got him when we did. There was a trend, as you guys saw; all those offensive linemen [got] picked after him. I think there were like 10 or 11 guys in a span of, like, maybe 20 picks, so we were fortunate.”

 312.
“[Roger Rosengarten] is young. He’s a young player. You guys will see him; I mean, he’s young. He’s going to get stronger, [and] we’ll get him in the weight room. He’s a very gifted athlete. He’s played some left tackle. He played left tackle at the Senior Bowl. [He has] very good feet, body mechanics, change of direction, agility. He’s just got to get physically stronger, as a lot of guys do, and so, he will. He’ll fill out and get stronger. We have a great strength program, and he’ll see quick results, I think.”

 313.
“Pass protection-wise, the guys that really kind of flourish at our level are the guys that have enough strength and the guys that can really move their feet, and that’s great. In our offense, we do a lot of things out in space. Guys have to be able to pull, and our screen game was good this year. And we get these guys out there, and we have fast players, and our quarterback, obviously, is a tremendous athlete, so you want guys that are mobile. We want big, strong guys, but we want these guys to be mobile, too.”

 314.
“We went to the national championship, John [Harbaugh] and I. We were blessed to be able to go to that game, and it was a great result – as John would say – and a fun night. I’ll be honest, I did scout a little bit, but I was really kind of just taking in the atmosphere of the game at that point. I didn’t know a lot about Roger [Rosengarten] at that point. My first real exposure was at the Senior Bowl, and I was very impressed by him. [I] came back, and before the draft meetings, watched his tape [and] was more impressed. Then he went to the NFL Combine, [we] interviewed him, super impressive guy, great background, great makeup. So, that’s kind of what happened with that.”

 315.

 316.
Harbaugh:

 317.

 318.
“Roger Rosengarten] came in there, and he just ... We try to focus on football. Our scouts do a great job of uncovering all the other stuff, and if something needs to be asked, [executive vice president & general manager] Eric [DeCosta] will do a great of asking questions. But we try to get in there with football [questions], and he was just so on point. He was on point, he knew his technique, he knew his assignments, he was very self-aware with the things he needed to get better at, and he just seemed like a motivated guy. He seemed like a Raven.”

 319.
“We drafted [Roger Rosengarten] with that idea – that he’ll compete for that. That’s the idea; [that] all these guys will be competing for playing time and opportunities to start. And in his case, right and ... We’re going to look at him everywhere. He can play guard, if we needed him to, and he can play left tackle, if we need him to. We’re just going to roll the offensive line out there and let them compete.”

 320.
“He’s just an athletic guy when you watch the tape like Eric [DeCosta] had mentioned. He’s young, but he can move his feet – [the reporter] was kind of talking about that, the athleticism part of it. He can move, so it’s not going to be a challenge for him to go either way. He’s young; we’ll bring him in. All of these guys we look at, especially early on. He’ll be in [rookie] minicamp in here next weekend – he’ll be playing both sides, and [we’ll] just see what they look like and kind of see how it shakes out over the course of minicamp, training camp and all of that. The fact that he was with a left-handed quarterback on the right side is kind of part of that.”

 332.

 333.
“Adisa [Isaac], my first school visit this year was the Penn State-West Virginia game. I have a daughter there, at Penn State, [and] I scouted Adisa. They had a lot of players on defense this year. I love his body, I love his frame, his upside. He’s a very explosive player, very physical. [He] can be used in a lot of different ways. He’s got a great story. [Northeast area scout] Patrick McDonough, one of our scouts, did a phenomenal job scouting him. He was his “Red Star” player this year, which is kind of cool, and we just feel like he’s a Raven-type of guy, [who] fits us in many different ways – his mentality and with his physical style of play. So, we’re excited to get him.”

 334.
“Most of these guys need some development when they get to this level, as pass rushers. But what I like about [Adisa Isaac] is [that] he’s got great length, which is a critical factor. He’s got heavy hands, he’s got some different moves, he’s got speed and quickness, and I think he’s tenacious. And so, I think [that] all of those things ... When you think about our best pass rushers, I think [that] those are a lot of the traits that those guys have, so we’re very excited. I’ve watched a lot of offensive linemen this year in the Big Ten. Obviously, we have a need at that position, and so I watched a lot of these guys, and Adisa is a guy that kind of wreaked havoc in the Big Ten this year.”

 335.

 336.
Harbaugh:

 337.

“I saw a guy on tape that makes a lot of plays, and he does it in a real athletic way. He’s a very athletic guy; very explosive starter, can cover ground, he can get to the edge of a tackle and beat them on the edge with quickness or beat them underneath with quickness, and then, long-arm power, he’s got that, too. He’s got some real pass rush ability – he’s heavy-handed against the run. So for us, he’s going to be in the rotation.”

 348.

“With ‘Tez,’ you get really a vertical receiver, size and speed. In some ways, [he] reminds me of a Torrey Smith-type of player – an outside, take-the-top-off, vertical threat with good size, and phenomenal kid, excellent jumping ability.”

 349.
Director of College Scouting David Blackburn:

 350.

“He just has vertical explosiveness [and] the ability to get behind coverage, take the top off the defense, make big plays. He is a threat, and he also does it at his size. He’s not a small guy, and he doesn’t play small downfield. He can put pressure on the defense, and he’s able to make some contested catches downfield. I think that bodes well for our offense and our quarterback. He didn’t really have the week that he wanted in Mobile at the Senior Bowl, but [his] pro day was great, his Combine was great. The thing that I really like most about him is that he’s encountered some athletic adversity in his life, and he’s overcome. And, he’s a really mentally tough kid, as well as physically tough. He works at his craft, and he’s a great teammate. So, outside of those physical traits that he has, he has a lot of intangibles as well.”

 361.

 362.
“T.J. [Tampa] is a guy that, quite honestly, we would’ve taken in the second day of the Draft. [He] is a press corner; [he’s] long [and] just a guy that we think really fits what we do very, very well.”

 363.
“We really liked [T.J. Tampa], and honestly, we’ve doubled up on positions before – probably four or five times – and it’s worked out well for us. Honestly, we would have taken him a lot higher had we not taken Nate [Wiggins in the first round], I would have to say. So, he didn’t necessarily have a great 40 [-yard dash] time. He had a Big 12 Pro Day, and he did not run at the Combine, so that might have hurt him a little bit, but for us, we see the length, we see the size, we see the leaping ability [and] his ability to play the football. He’s a tough guy. He tackles well. We’re excited. We think he’s going to have a chip on his shoulder and play well.”

 364.

 365.
Director of College Scouting David Blackburn:

 366.

“[T.J. Tampa’s] athleticism at his size [stands out]. He’s long. He can flip his hips. He can change directions well. [He’s a] former wideout, so I think there is some built-in upside to him, as a player. He just kind of plays the game smoothly; he doesn’t look too stressed. He tackles well. He’s a guy that’s going to compete. He’ll run down on kicks and be a special teams guy for us. [He’s got] good makeup, good mentality. [He’s] a smart football player. They speak highly of him at [Iowa State]. So, again, any time you have [well]-sized corner, you’re always intrigued, but I think he’s got the necessary movement skills at that size, along with his length, to give us something as a coverage player and then also be able to support the run.”

 379.
“[Rasheen Ali]’s an explosive guy. I think he runs hard. He finishes his runs. He catches the ball well; he can run routes; he’s a good pass protector. Like I said, at the Senior Bowl, he was a guy that I noticed very quickly. He got hurt, but during the week at practice, he was very, very explosive, and I think we all took note. We had him visit a few weeks ago. He’s an interesting kid. He’s got a great background – other than the fact that he’s from Cleveland, of course – but he’s got a great background, and I think he’s going to be a good player for us.”

 380.
“When we evaluate running backs, we’re looking for specific things. Certainly, ball security is one of those things, but this is an explosive guy, very shifty, good vision, [and] he runs hard – all those different things.”

 392.

 393.
“Devin [Leary] is a quarterback that we see as a viable backup over time. [Quarterbacks coach] Tee Martin – we gave him a project to basically come back to us and tell us who he thought his favorite backup-type of quarterbacks in this year’s draft class – and he came back with Devin as one of his very top guys, so that was exciting for us to take a quarterback; it’s been a few years since we’ve done that.”

 394.
“I think [quarterbacks coach] Tee Martin does an excellent job evaluating, and he thinks he’s a natural thrower. He thinks he’s an accurate passer. He loves the kid. He thinks he’s got the right mentality to come in and compete and improve. For me, it’s similar to how I feel about kickers. Who better to evaluate quarterbacks than a quarterbacks coach who played in the League? Who better to evaluate kickers than a kicking coach? So, I think Tee did a phenomenal job. He’s very, very excited about Devin, and so are we.”

 395.

 396.
Harbaugh:

 397.

“Josh [Johnson] will be the backup quarterback, and I think Devin will develop. He’ll probably be the third quarterback this year in some way or fashion and grow into the job as we go.”

 398.

 399.
IOL Nick Samac, Michigan State (Round 7: No. 228 overall)

 400.
DeCosta:

 401.

“Nick Samac is just a gritty Big Ten offensive lineman. [He’s] a very good center, a very athletic guy, stays on his blocks, good sustainability, very, very intelligent, and we think a guy that can back up Tyler [Linberbaum] and also hopefully work in as a guard and develop and be a swing guy for us.”

 402.

 403.
DB Sanoussi Kane, Purdue (Round 7: No. 250 overall)

 404.
DeCosta:

 405.

“Sanoussi [Kane], [a] non-Combine guy; typically we don’t draft a lot of non-Combine players, but with Sanoussi, it kind of harkens back to Haruki Nakamura who we drafted, who was a non-Combine guy back in the day. Sanoussi is a guy that does a lot of things well; [he’s] a tough player, I think he’s got good ball skills, [he] should play on special teams. He’s a guy that [director of college scouting] David [Blackburn] can talk more about – some of the scouts really liked him, and [defensives back coach] Doug Mallory really liked him as well and had a chance to come here to Baltimore and visit with us.”

 406.
Harbaugh:

 407.

“Sanoussi [Kane] is a guy that we were talking about right at the end – it’s so much love between the scouts and the coaches. In some ways, he’s kind of similar to that guy from Iowa whose name will not be mentioned because he’s playing in the division here. But, we appreciate Geno [Stone] and all he did for us. But, [it’s] kind of a similar kind of pick – a really heady player, a really productive player. He’s going to have every opportunity there, then whoever else Eric [DeCosta] finds for us, we’ll coach them up. So, we’ll see what happens.”

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad bet.

 428.
Jonas Shaffer, The Baltimore Banner

 429.

 430.
The Ravens’ bet on Oweh, though, has always been based on his potential. On Tuesday, general manager Eric DeCosta doubled down, exercising Oweh’s $13.3 million option. There is obvious risk in the move, but also, maybe, great reward. In an exploding market for pass rushers, Oweh’s fully guaranteed deal could become a bargain by next year.

 431.
Oweh, 25, arrived in Baltimore four years ago defined as much by what he could do as what he hadn’t done. He could run the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds at 6 foot 5, 257 pounds. He could broad-jump over 11 feet. He could complete the three-cone drill faster than wide receiver Rashod Bateman, taken four spots before him in the first round. What Oweh couldn’t do was reliably get to the quarterback; he had just seven sacks over 20 games at Penn State, including none in a coronavirus-shortened 2020 season.

 432.
In Baltimore, though, Oweh’s pass rush improvement has been swift and steady. According to Pro Football Focus, his pass rush win rate on “true pass sets” — a sample that excludes plays with play-action passes, screens, short drop-backs, a time to throw of less than two seconds or fewer than four pass rushers — has jumped 12 percentage points since his rookie year. According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, his quarterback pressure rate rebounded from a dip in 2022 to a career high last season. Oweh ranked near the top of the league in both metrics in 2023.

 438.
This was a tough call, since the Ravens were able to get a lot of big board value out of Adisa Isaac, Tez Walker and Tampa, relative to where they were picked. But the Tampa selection had the widest gap in terms of where he was picked (130) and where he was on my board (51). I also really liked the selection because Baltimore already has Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins on the team. That allows them to potentially use Tampa as a versatile safety when needed. His preference for off-coverage lends itself to some backend work.

 443.
Baltimore Ravens

 444.
OT Roger Rosengarten (Round 2, No. 62)

 445.
Honorable mention: OL Nick Samac

 446.
Rosengarten is ready for battle on the edge. And what I mean by that is — he wants to quick set defensive linemen (be the aggressor) on passing plays, and he’s one of the rare cats at offensive tackle with the athletic twitch and hand work to do it. At nearly 6-foot-6 and 308 pounds, Rosengarten ran 4.92 in the 40-yard dash (96th percentile at the position) at the combine and starred in pass protection. And that’s vital now in Baltimore, right? The Ravens are a passing team under Todd Monken. Remember, Lamar Jackson set a career high in passing attempts in 2023. Rosengarten is plug and play at right tackle.

 456.
When he agreed to a contract alteration this offseason, which included a significant pay cut, Stanley ensured he’d be playing for his future in Baltimore this year. At right tackle, the Ravens aren’t in the business of handing rookies starting jobs. Rosengarten, a second-round pick, will likely have to beat out Faalele. Mekari could also enter that mix. However, the veteran is so valuable to the Ravens as the sixth offensive lineman who can come in and play all five positions up front.

Board, one of the league’s better special teams linebackers in the NFL, will likely be the top reserve. Whether the Ravens add another veteran here probably depends on their confidence level in Ross and whether they keep Harrison outside or move him back inside. He can play both. At the very least, they’ll need a few more bodies to get through training camp.

Kane is a seventh-round rookie and Ar’Darius Washington, while he played safety in college, is probably better suited for a nickel corner role. If the Ravens are going to move Hamilton around like they did last year, they’ll need a trusted No. 3 safety. Marcus Williams has also dealt with some injuries, so quality depth here is imperative.

 474.
This came down to edge rusher and guard, neither of which the Baltimore Ravens addressed during the draft. But we’re going with guard, as steady offensive line play is critical when Lamar Jackson is your quarterback.

 475.
The Ravens lost left guard John Simpson and right guard Kevin Zeitler in free agency. Are their internal replacements enough? We’ll find out.

 482.
1. Baltimore Ravens VS. Pittsburgh Steelers

 483.
Provided he’s the starter for Pittsburgh at the time, Russell Wilson’s return to Denver will get plenty of press, but as far as pure watchability, his introduction to this AFC North rivalry in the first of the Steelers’ and Ravens’ annual showdowns offers a much higher rate of return. Both clubs have gone through a bit of a metamorphosis after flaming out last season. The new quarterback duo in Pittsburgh — Wilson and Justin Fields — is clearly the top storyline. Whoever winds up as the QB1 gives the Steelers more upside than they had last season. Pittsburgh added beef on the offensive line in the draft after getting pushed around the past few years. With King Henry pounding the rock for Baltimore alongside Lamar Jackson, we could get an old-school Ravens-Steelers matchup with much more physicality than we’ve seen lately. Given that their division plays teams from the NFC East this season, both these squads will have plenty of prime affairs against the likes of the Cowboys and Eagles. But for me, nothing gets the juices flowing like a hard-hitting Steelers-Ravens slobber knocker.

 484.
5. Baltimore Ravens AT Los Angeles Chargers

 485.
Jim Harbaugh’s return to the NFL provides a brotherly matchup between the Chargers and Ravens. John Harbaugh brings Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and a re-imagined defense across the continent to face off against Justin Herbert and a reworked Chargers receiver corps. Jim is 0-2 in his NFL career versus his older brother, including in Super Bowl XLVII, when John’s Ravens defeated Jim’s 49ers. Not only will Jim be attempting to avenge those losses, but he’ll be doing so with several of John’s former assistants and players, including offensive coordinator Greg Roman and DC Jesse Minter. L.A. also swiped former Ravens backs Gus Edwards and JK Dobbins in free agency. The familiar nature of the clubs offers an enticing matchup of power on power. And count me in any time Jackson and Herbert take the same field.

 506.
Breaking down all nine of the Ravens selections and assigning letter grades.

The 2024 NFL Draft came and went and the Baltimore Ravens had themselves quite an impressive three days of work. General manager Eric DeCosta exhibited a lot of patience, didn’t make a single trade and the decision to stick and pick worked as well as he and the rest of the front office could’ve imagined as they had one great value pick after another fall to them with five of their first nine picks in total.

 522.
Analysis: At No. 30 overall in the first round, the Ravens were one of the many beneficiaries of the early run on offensive linemen and skill players as they had who many believe and proclaimed “the best pure cover corner” in the entire draft fall to them in a pleasantly surprising turn of events. Wiggins absolutely dominated his final two seasons in college especially in 2023 when the only pass of 20 or more yards he allowed was to one of his fellow rookies and new teammates. He has the potential to be a future shutdown corner at the next level but won’t have the pressure of having to prove it right away as a rookie because he’ll be playing alongside and rotation with one of the better corner tandems in the league in Baltimore with Marlon Humphrey and Brandon Stephens.

 523.

 524.

 525.
Ravens fans, this is what @WigginNathaniel is bringing to Baltimore

: NFL Draft ABC/ESPN/NFL Net pic.twitter.com/u3MpEbdLqQ
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) April 26, 2024

 528.
 529.

 530.
Wiggins will essentially assume the role veteran Ronald Darby served in last season as the Ravens’ No. 3 cornerback who regularly rotates with the starters and can fill in on a full-time basis in the event of an injury to either the three-time Pro Bowler or 2023 breakout stud. Humphrey played a similar role during his first two years in the league before emerging as an All-Pro in 2019. The Ravens could put Wiggins on a similar development plan but with Stephens heading into the final year of his deal, he will only have to wait half as long.

 537.
Grade: A

 538.
Analysis: At No. 62 overall in the second round, the Ravens got one of the most ready-to-plug-and-play tackle prospects in this year’s class especially among the ones who weren’t taken on Day 1. Rosengarten was being viewed as a potential fringe first-rounder as the pre-draft process went on and for good reason. He is a technically sound pass blocker with the agility and athleticism to be a weapon in space as part of a convoy on screens and pulls. The former Huskie is a blindside protector by nature who didn’t surrender a single sack in over 1,000 pass-blocking snaps while in college, will compete for the starting right tackle spot as a rookie and could be the left tackle of the future with former All-Pro veteran Ronnie Stanley heading into the final year of his reworked contract.

 553.
Analysis: At No. 93 overall in the third round, the Ravens went back to the former Nittany Lions den to pick up another talented edge defender who can contribute right away as a situational pass rusher during his rookie season. While he came off the board in a range many top analysts predicted, it wouldn’t have been surprising in the slightest if had been picked in the mid to late second round but instead, he fell all the way into the Ravens’ lap late on Day 2. Isaac is a prospect whose tape shows off more of his impressive athleticism than his solid but not eye-popping testing numbers suggest especially in relation to two of his former college teammates in Chop Robinson who was taken in the first round and Odafe Oweh who is already on the Ravens roster who blew up their respective Combines.

 554.

 555.

 556.
Yeah, @A1Isaac1 plays like a Raven alright

: NFL Draft on ABC/ESPN/NFL Net pic.twitter.com/hm8tk1RRCm
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) April 27, 2024

 559.
 560.

 561.
Over the past decade and a half, the Ravens have had edge rushers taken after the first round who recorded four or more sacks as rookies playing in a rotational role and Isaac could very be poised to be next in line, joining the likes of Pernell McPhee, Za’Darius Smith and Matt Judon.

 569.
Analysis: At No. 113 overall in the fourth round, the Ravens picked up a dangerous vertical threat capable of making big plays in the passing game with both speed and strong contested catch ability. Walker would’ve easily been an early-to-mid Day 2 pick in most years but due to the incredible depth of the 2024 class, he just so happened to be there early in Day 3 as one of the best available prospects. He adds diversity and depth to a Ravens’ receiver room highlighted by a trio of former first-rounders in Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor but saw multi-time Pro Bowlers Odell Beckham Jr. and Devin Duvernay depart in free agency.

 577.
DeCosta compared Walker to retired Ravens wideout Torrey Smith who was a potent depth threat for the offense in the early 2010s out of Maryland and was key to the team’s Super Bowl run in 2012. The rookie speedster brings a lot of the same appealing attributes to the table although he is prone to the occasional concentration drop. An up-and-down performance at the Senior Bowl probably hurt his stock in the eyes of a lot of teams but he bounced back with an impressive display of athleticism at the Combine. Improving the deep passing game will be an emphasis for the Ravens this offseason and Walker has an opportunity to be a big part of the maturation process.

 585.
Analysis: At No. 130 overall in the fourth round, the Ravens got perhaps one of the biggest steals of the entire draft in relation to not only where the consensus had him projected to go but what his talent shows on tape. He is a physical press-man corner with the length and athleticism the Ravens covet at the position. Many pundits believe he would hear his name called no later than Day 2 and some even speculated that he could be a surprise late first-round pick. However, his decision not to attend the Senior Bowl combined with his slower-than-expected 40-yard dash time of 4.58 attributed to his fall but he was yet another tremendous value nonetheless.

 593.
While some questioned his speed and explosiveness during the pre-draft process, his tape told an entirely different story. A prime example of both his long speed and relentless effort in Week 2 of his senior season in a rivalry game against Iowa. Tampa was clocked reaching a top speed of 21.3 miles per hour on a play where he caught Hawkeye running back Jaziun Patterson from behind after he ripped off what looked like a house call short of the goal line. The acceleration and tenacity he shows on plays such as that will serve him well on special teams at the next level as well as on defense if an injury were to occur to one of the top three corners on the depth chart in his rookie year and beyond 2024.

 609.
Analysis: At No. 165 overall in the fifth round, the Ravens added another dynamic weapon to round out their backfield and more depth. Ali will complement four-time Pro Bowl starter Derrick Henry and help offset the absence of 2023 undrafted gem Keaton Mitchell who will likely miss some time to begin the 2024 season after tearing his ACL this past December. In college, he showcased an explosive playmaking ability both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield who could also contribute in special teams as a kick returner if needed especially with the new rules making it more like a traditional run play. A bicep injury he suffered at the Senior Bowl forced him to sit out the rest of the week and prevented him from participating in the Combine or his Pro Day which may have caused him to fall a round later than he might have gone had been able to boost his stock with some impressive testing numbers.

 624.
Analysis: At No. 218 overall in the sixth round, the Ravens took a shot on a developmental prospect they hope can develop into the primary backup to Jackson in time. Leary was a personal favorite of quarterback coach Tee Martin who he pounded the table for in the war room after being very impressed by him during an interview at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. His physical tools and intangibles include having a very strong arm, supreme confidence in his ability to spin it with the best of them and leadership as he was a team captain at two different programs. He struggled with turnovers in a pro-style offense last year in his lone season with the Wildcats but still managed to throw 25 touchdowns in his first year back from a right pectoral injury and should be a fun watch in the preseason as he learns and develops on the job.

 639.
Analysis: At the No. 228 overall in the seventh round, the Ravens got an experienced interior offensive lineman who started 32 games at center in college and is an ideal backup for 2023 Pro Bowler Tyler Linderbaum. He is a road grader in the run game with good hand placement who is agile and nimble in space on pulls and screens, making him a great fit for Monken’s scheme. A leg injury he suffered late in his final college season prevented him from participating in the pre-drat process outside of interviews so he wasn’t able to boost his stock and fell to late Day 3 where DeCosta scooped him up. Although he played center exclusively in college, the Ravens plan to cross-train him at guard, a position he hasn’t played since high school but has familiarity with.

 654.
Analysis: At No. 250 overall in the seventh round, the Ravens took a swing on a prospect with high character as a former team captain who is a strong tackler and will compete to be a core special teams contributor as a rookie. As a defender, he offers upside as a dime linebacker in sub packages where he plays near the line of scrimmage to provide run support and covers whatever comes underneath in zone coverage or if a tight end or running back goes out for a route in man coverage.
