93.
Suggs, who hails from Flint, Michigan, became a starter for GVSU in 2023 notched 21 tackles (7.5 TFL), 5 sacks, 4 pass deflections, and a forced fumble, leading to second-team all-conference honors.

 122.
 123.
10 Seminoles heard their names called in the 2024 NFL Draft. What’s their future?

The NFL welcomed 10 more Florida State draftees into its family over the last few days, and several more Seminoles have signed as undrafted free agents.

 124.
Those 10 picks, per FSU Sports Info, were tied for the third-highest among all programs nationally in 2024 and were four more than the second-place ACC team. It’s the fourth time in school history that double-digit players have been selected, just one short of the school-record history 11 picks in the 2013 and 2015 NFL Drafts.

 125.
FSU was the only team in the country to have multiple defensive linemen, multiple defensive backs and multiple wide receivers selected.

 126.
After a great weekend for the FSU program, some of the Tomahawk Nation staff got together to reflect and make some predictions.

 127.

 128.
Which player was drafted into the best situation?

 129.
LastNoleOfKrypton: I have to go with Keon Coleman. You get drafted to a team with a top-five-ish quarterback and a desire to throw the ball and if you’re really good you get to hit free agency (or negotiate a huge extension) earlier because of the lack of a fifth-year option. Jordan’s situation is good as well.

 130.
NoleThruandThru: I’d say about half of the guys who were drafted are stepping into really good situations, but I’ve gotta go with Jordan Travis here. Being able to learn from Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor while not having to rush the rehab process? That’s an incredible situation for any rookie QB, and it will allow Jordan to have at least one season to soak up knowledge and focus on getting back to 100%.

 131.
Jon Loesche: I’m going to go with Jared Verse and Braden Fiske. The Rams have a great track record with defensive player development and should get the most out of them early on.

 132.
Tim: I was going to say Verse and Fiske, but since that’s already touched on, let’s go another direction. I think Johnny Wilson to the Eagles could be a sleeper situation. Wilson excelled at times with Jordan Travis and scramble drills. He’ll present a big target for Jalen Hurts and could continue his knack of picking up key first downs.

 133.
Jordan Silversmith: Keon Coleman seems to be the obvious answer as the Bills move on from Stefon Diggs, but how about Trey Benson? He gets to play in an explosive offense with a mobile quarterback and the top wide receiver off the board, which forces defenses to play their safeties deep. James Conner still leads the backfield, but at 28 and a heavy workload last season, how much time does he have left? Being taken with the second pick of the third round also emphasizes the Cardinal’s belief in the former FSU RB, and I think that job could be his in two seasons.

 134.
Perry Kostidakis: I’m going to go with Jarrian Jones — strictly based off the fact that he enters into a secondary situation in Jacksonville where he can have a legitimate shot at seeing the field in his rookie season.

 135.
Which player will have the most successful NFL career?

 136.
LastNoleOfKrypton: Jared Verse; Booger McFarland compares him to Cam Jordan and it feels like a good one. Jared’s ability to set the edge will keep him on the field for a long time, plenty of opportunities to get after the quarterback to a 10+ year career.

 137.
NoleThruandThru: I’m gonna go with Braden Fiske here, assuming he stays healthy. Fiske has an opportunity to help fill the massive void left by Aaron Donald early on but won’t be expected to replicate Donald by himself. Rams fans are going to fall in love with him quickly. Playing a premium position and possessing a motor that doesn’t quit and a space-wrecking presence, Fiske is going to get PAID over the next decade.

 138.
Jon Loesche: I agree on Verse. He has all the tools to be a perennial Pro Bowler and is getting put into a situation to maximize his skills.

 139.
Tim: Fiske. See what David said but also the kid’s motor is off the charts. He doesn’t take plays off and then you add his strength plus skillset— we’ll be seeing Fiske in opposing team’s backfield for a long time.

 140.
Perry Kostidakis: Mark me down for Verse as well — he’s built for the modern NFL, from cerebral to physical tools, and seeing as he’s still just two years removed from Albany, still has a next level to take that he is more than capable of reaching.

 141.
Jordan Silversmith: These questions are hard because the draft is an inexact science. If NFL teams knew that Tom Brady would be the best quarterback ever, all 32 teams would not have passed on him six times in a row. With that being said, and taking a different direction than the Los Angeles Rams’ draft picks, Jarrian Jones could survive the longest in the league. His cover skills are top-notch, and his ability to play nickel at a high level makes him likely to play 8-10 years in the league. With more teams playing five or six corners on third down, corners will be in popular demand for years to come, and Jones seems to continue to have plenty of runway remaining to reach his potential.

 142.
Which FSU player’s draft situation was the biggest surprise to you?

 143.
LastNoleOfKrypton: I’m surprised by Johnny lasting until the sixth; I thought with how well he tested (particularly in the agility drills) that he would be in the third to fourth range.

 144.
NoleThruandThru: No shade intended, but Renardo Green (2nd round) and Jarrian Jones (3rd round) going as early as they did surprised me. The run on cornerbacks was real this draft but a lot of the reactions I’ve read so far say both guys went a couple rounds earlier than they should have. I’d love to see both guys prove the haters wrong.

 145.
Jon Loesche: Fabien Lovett going undrafted. He’s not the flashiest player but a big run stuffer in the middle should always be a draftable commodity.

 146.
Perry Kostidakis: I really thought we’d see Kalen DeLoach or Fabien Lovett drafted — I understand once you get to the later rounds that you almost prefer an undrafted free agent situation, but those two have potential to at the very least be depth pieces on an NFL roster.

 147.
Which undrafted Seminole is most likely to make a roster?

 148.
LastNoleOfKrypton: Fabien Lovett; he’s a true-nose tackle with grown man strength and with all teams playing two-high a lot of teams are starting to run the ball more.

 149.
NoleThruandThru: If Akeem Dent can enter training camp and keep playing like he was at the back half of last season, he’ll find a spot on someone’s roster if not the Chargers. Dent finally putting it all together last year was so satisfying to watch and he can help a team if he maintains that level.

 150.
Jon Loesche: Fabien Lovett. He landed in a good situation with the Chiefs and provides good value as a rotational guy in the middle.

 151.
Jordan Silversmith: Even if the Chargers boast a deep secondary, Akeem Dent could break the roster. ‘Do it all Dent’, as his Twitter name says, gives him a chance to be a part of the 53-man team. His speed allows him to become a high-level special teams contributor, and his intangibles should carry him the rest of the way. He mentioned at his Pro-Day availability that not being invited to the combine gave him extra motivation, and I expect not being drafted will do the same.

 152.
Perry Kostidakis: I’m going with DeLoach here. The Buccaneers are in need of some depth at the linebacker position, and the Savannah product has the talent and work ethic needed to stand out as rosters get trimmed.

 153.
What was your favorite FSU moment in the draft this year?

 154.
LastNoleOfKrypton: Keon’s press conference was spectacular but the emotion of Braden Fiske and Jared Verse on that phone call is something you never forget.

 155.
NoleThruandThru: LNK wins this question with Fiske and Verse, but a close second was seeing Jordan Travis have his name called in the fifth round. I don’t know whether or not he’ll become a successful starting quarterback in the NFL, but I won’t bet against Jordan in anything he sets his mind to. It was awesome seeing JT13 get drafted by a team that believes in him.

 156.
Jon Loesche: The Jaguars drafting their first FSU player since Jalen Ramsey in 2016.

 157.
Tim: Have you seen the Keon Coleman interviews? They’re fantastic. The Bills Mafia will fall in love with Coleman if he can stand out on the field.

 158.
Jordan Silversmith: Jarrian Jones had an emotional call with the Jaguars brass, which I thought was one of the best weekends of the weekend. His emotion and scream when his name was announced with his family celebrating behind him exemplified his journey to reach that point, and it was apparent how much he cares about football.

 159.
Perry Kostidakis: There were so many great moments — legit tears when watching that Fiske video even though everybody said to get ready for things to get dusty — but I have to go with Jordan Travis getting selected by the Jets. When he went down in November, there were so many terrible thoughts that flew through the brain including what if the poor kid just lost out on his NFL future? Thankfully, he healed up well and continues to progress in his rehabilitation, and even more thankfully, the Jets recognized his talent and intangibles. As a player (and person) who has done everything right and has been given the short end of the stick on more than one occasion, him getting that moment was amazing to see.

 213.
 214.
Florida State went 3-1 this week.

With less than a month until the NCAA reveals the baseball bracket, Florida State put itself on the inside track to host a regional and receive a national seed.

 215.
The ‘Noles needed a series victory on the road against a ranked opponent to improve its resume, and they did just that, taking two out of three against Duke after dropping a road series last week. The Seminoles are still jockeying for position regarding the ACC standings, and a big series next weekend against NC State gives them a great chance to improve their spot. But this week is about the two wins on Friday and Saturday that solidified their place among the nation’s best and proved that this team could win at the highest level when June rolls around.

 216.
The winning week started with a bounce-back win against Mercer on Tuesday. After FSU dropped their first non-conference game last week and the bullpen recovering from throwing 18 innings last Saturday, the freshman arms stepped up and gave Link Jarrett valuable length and outs. Matt Sauser and John Abraham combined for five innings, giving up just one run, and Marco Dinges put the ‘Noles up early with a grand slam in the third as FSU cruised to a 10-2 victory.

 217.
Jamie Arnold started on Friday night as he continues to be the only healthy weekend arm as Cam Leiter and Conner Whittaker missed another week, and he added to his All-American case. The lefty went five innings and racked up nine strikeouts as he battled through a difficult Duke lineup and questionable calls behind the plate. The Seminoles scored all four of their runs in the first, carried by a Jamie Ferrer three-run HR, and Connor Hults shut the door in the ninth as Florida State took game one 4-2.

 218.
Saturday ended up being a completely different game than Friday night, as the game started as a pitcher’s duel before exploding later. Carson Dorsey took the ball and pitched beautifully for the second week in a row. He went six innings and allowed just two runs, a two-run HR in the fourth, as he keeps the rotation afloat. The Seminoles scored their first five runs via the long ball and led 7-2 going into the eighth. The bullpen almost threw the game away as they allowed four runs in two innings, but freshman John Abraham recorded the final two outs in the ninth, and the Seminoles clinched the series.

 219.
Sunday, well, there's no need to talk about it. Florida State looked like a team ready to fly home for finals week, but they took their worst loss of the season, 16-4, when they were run-ruled.

 220.
3 Up

 221.
Home runs: It feels like the Seminole offense goes as the long ball goes. Of course, that makes sense as it is instant offense, but Florida State receives most of its runs from hitting dingers. The Seminoles hit seven home runs in four games this week, and Florida State’s strong record followed. Marco Dinges started the trend with a grand slam in the bottom of the third against Mercer, which set a program record of nine grand slams in a season. James Tibbs hit his first of two this week with a two-run shot that gave FSU a 9-1 lead and put the game out of reach.

 222.
Jamie Ferrer continued the trend on Friday with a three-run shot that got out of the park quickly as Florida State raced out to a 4-0 advantage in the first and rode that wave to a 4-2 victory. The most impressive display of power commenced on Saturday, where FSU hit three long balls and jumped out 5-2 over the Blue Devils. Cal Fisher and Jamie Ferrer hit solo shots before Marco Dinges came up with two on and two out and deposited a ball over the wall. Link Jarrett’s team would win 7-6, as five of their seven runs came from homers. James Tibbs’ blast on Sunday might have been the only Seminole bright spot, as he hit his 18th of the year, giving him a new career high.

 223.
Freshman: To survive the attrition of a grueling baseball season, unlikely heroes need to step up to keep the year on track. Often in college sports, that comes from freshmen, and Florida State’s first-year players delivered this week.

 224.
As mentioned, the young arms shined on Tuesday night against Mercer. Link Jarrett needed to preserve Brennen Oxford, Andrew Armstrong, and Joe Charles for the weekend, so he rolled out three straight newbies to start the game. Matt Sauser, John Abraham, and Hudson Rowan combined to go 6.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, and 7 Ks as Florida State blew out their non-conference opponent. John Abraham pitched the strongest of the three, and his renewed confidence shone as he clinched the FSU victory on Saturday. The freshman came up with two on and one out in a one-run game and induced a pop-out in foul territory and a lineout to Cal Fisher to escape the jam. Speaking of Fisher, the freshman made some impressive defensive plays as he drew in for Drew Faurot and went 2-3 with a home run.

 225.
Another stout freshman performance came from Connor Hults on Friday night. Brennen Oxford went out for the ninth in a 4-2 ball game and instantly found trouble. Hults spun his breaking ball to victory as he got out of the jam and recorded a strikeout for the win.

 226.
At this point of the year, depth is being tested throughout the roster, but especially in the bullpen, making the performance of the young guns all the more crucial.

 227.
Response: Most baseball games are played above the shoulders, and Florida State continues to impress with its maturity throughout the season. The Seminoles faced their roughest week of the season last time out with a brutal non-conference loss and a series loss where they led in all three games. Again, questions came about whether this relatively inexperienced group punched above their weight to start the season but began falling back to Earth as it wore on.

 228.
Instead, Florida State responded in the same way that they always do. The Seminoles wasted no time putting away Mercer Tuesday night and took their winning ways to Durham. Florida State took on #6 Duke on the road for their second straight series away from Tallahassee and looked energized and refreshed for the first two games. They played solid baseball and did not let the emotional swings of a game get them away from the task at hand. FSU could have rolled over when they found trouble in the ninth on Friday and Saturday with slender leads of 4-2 and 7-6, but instead, they rose to the occasion, put the contests away, and clinched the series.

 229.
3 Down

 230.
Bullpen: Besides the names mentioned, the Seminole bullpen struggled for a second straight week. While the young arms pitched well on Tuesday night, Link Jarrett did not use any of his high-leverage players, and the game was put out of reach within the first three innings.

 231.
Brennen Oxford pitched well for his first three innings of work on Friday, but questionable bullpen decisions again made the ending to the game more complicated than it needed to be. Conner Hults ended up putting out the fire on the bases, but he probably should have started the frame, as Ox had a high pitch count before starting the ninth. Speaking of flames, what happened to Fireman Joe Charles? He has been demoted from his place among Link Jarrett’s trusted arms as he did not get called in on Friday for the save, and when he took the ball on Saturday, he did not look like his usual self. To start the eighth inning, the righty loaded the bases before Jarrett turned the ball over to Conner Hults, who did his best to get out of the jam, but Charles still finished the day being charged with three earned runs. Surprisingly, he may have been better than Andrew Armstrong, who started the ninth and allowed a home run, a single, and a walk while recording just one out before the head coach made a pitching change.

 232.
The entire unit melted down Sunday as they allowed ten runs in the second inning in their only true bullpen game of the weekend. The only positive came from Ben Barrett, who received his first action in over a month but only threw two pitches, recording one out before his day ended.

 233.
Strikeouts: Throughout a season, uncompetitive at-bats will happen, and Florida State had plenty of them this weekend. The Seminoles combined for 32 punchouts in four games this week, averaging eight per game. Of course, FSU took on some lively arms, including Duke Friday night starter Jonathan Santucci, who should go in the first round of the MLB draft, but there were a few worrying trends. Max Williams, Alex Lodise, and Daniel Cantu each were sat down on strikes multiple times in multiple games during the games they started this week. Moreover, the home runs carried the offense, as the Seminoles did not generate much from small ball or activity around the bases. While they got away with it this week, expecting to rely on home runs is not a recipe for success.

 234.
Looking ahead

 235.
Florida State will only play three games this week as they do not play a mid-week because of finals. The Seminoles will begin a three-game set with NC State on Friday as they return home for their first ACC series in Tallahassee in three weeks.

 264.
From FSU Sports Info:

 265.

 266.
The 10 draft picks tied for the third-highest among all programs nationally in 2024 and were four more than the second-place ACC team. FSU was one of six teams nationally with three top-40 selections, was the only team in the country to have multiple defensive linemen, multiple defensive backs and multiple wide receivers selected. and its six top-100 picks tied for the third-highest total among all collegiate programs. The Seminoles extended their streak of having at least one former player taken to 41 straight years, the eighth-longest active streak in the country.

 267.
Showcasing the balance of last year’s squad, Florida State had five offensive players and five defensive players selected. It was the fifth time in program history with five offensive players taken in the same year and first time since 2015. The last time Florida State had five defensive players off the board in the same year was 2013, and 2024 marked the ninth time with at least five FSU defenders taken. FSU had multiple defensive linemen drafted for the 14th time in program history. The Seminoles also had their 14th year with multiple defensive backs taken in the same draft and have produced 37 defensive back picks in the last 37 NFL Drafts. Florida State had multiple wide receivers selected in the same draft for the sixth time and first since 2003.

 316.

Due to the string of injuries to the Florida State rotation, the woes of searching for the third starter of the weekend continued against Duke as the Seminoles tried eight pitchers in Sunday’s 16-4 loss to the Duke Blue Devils. In the second inning alone, FSU needed five different arms to get out of the 10-run inning.

 375.
Seminoles close out regular season at home with a ACC sweep

Florida State softball is coming off three straight run rule games, dating back to their win over No. 12 Florida in the midweek. On Sunday, they looked to close out their ACC series with the North Carolina Tar Heels.

 376.
Allison Royalty got the start on her senior weekend, and quickly had motion on the bases after a single and hit by pitch. Royalty was able to get two outs before a stolen base put two runners in scoring position. A little PFP action got the senior out of the jam.

 382.
 383.

 384.
For UNC, Kenna Raye Dark got her second start of the weekend, and was able to shut down the Seminoles offense early in the game. Through two innings, Royalty and Dark kept it scoreless, despite putting runners on base. In the 3rd inning, a lead off single stole second with one out, and a fly out to right field kept Royalty from facing another batter.

 391.

 392.
In the bottom of the inning, Amaya Ross came up with a one out single. A stolen base put Ross in scoring position for a deep fly out that advanced her to third. An error by the UNC defense allowed Ross to score, breaking the tie, and giving FSU a 1-0 lead.

 393.

 398.
 399.

 400.
In the 4th inning, Ashtyn Danley came in to relieve Royalty, after she put the lead off batter on base. Danley added a hit by pitch, but otherwise kept the Tar Heels scoreless. In the bottom of the frame, Kalei Harding led off with a single. Two ground outs moved Harding all the way to third base, and in an attempt to score, she was called safe on obstruction.

 401.

 402.

 403.
Why, thank you

Noles get a gift on the bad throw back to the pitcher to extend the lead to 2-0

ACCNX#ALL4ONE pic.twitter.com/hXayIFVa13
— Florida State Softball (@FSU_Softball) April 28, 2024

 406.
 407.

 408.
FSU held on to a 2-0 lead going into the 6th inning, when Danley found herself in some trouble. A one out single followed by a fielder’s choice, error, and walk had bases loaded with two outs. A defensive play by Devyn Flaherty refused UNC of a run, keeping the Seminoles lead.

 409.

 410.

 411.
Show out, Dev

She makes a great play to prevent any runs with the bases loaded

ACCNX#ALL4ONE pic.twitter.com/gFb06KDcWZ
— Florida State Softball (@FSU_Softball) April 28, 2024

 414.
 415.

 416.
Now in the final inning, Emma Wilson changed places with Danley after two outs and a double. Inheriting a runner in scoring position, Wilson gave up a run on a single that cut into the lead by one run. A fly out for out number three solidified the Seminoles win, sweeping the Tar Heels.

 417.
The 2-1 win now brings FSU to 40-10 overall heading into their last ACC series

 418.
Up next

 419.
FSU will face Florida one final time, at home, on Wednesday May 1st at 7 pm. The game will be broadcast on ACCN, as well as 96.5 FM The Spear.

 438.
 439.
FSU pitching injuries catch up to Seminoles in finale loss to Duke

Due to the string of injuries to the Florida State rotation, the woes of searching for the third starter of the weekend continued against Duke as the Seminoles tried eight pitchers in Sunday’s 16-4 loss to the Duke Blue Devils. In the second inning alone, FSU needed five different arms to get out of the 10-run inning.

 440.
Florida State’s offense started off hot with a Cam Smith single and James Tibbs double. Smith scored on a subsequent wild pitch and Marco Dinges plated Tibbs with a sacrifice fly. Seminole starter Brady Louck allowed Duke to tie the game in the bottom of the frame as the Blue Devils collected a pair of runs on three hits and a walk. The game went off the rails in the bottom of the second as Louck allowed the first three batters to reach, leading to Duke’s third run of the game. Andrew Armstrong entered and struck out the first batter he faced before allowing an RBI single, hit batter, wild pitch, and double to extend Duke’s lead to 5-2. Next up was Hudson Rowan, who walked the only batter he faced. Noah Short then took the mound and punched out the first batter he faced before allowing back-to-back-to-back home runs which gave the Blue Devils a 12-2 lead. Ben Barrett, making his first appearance since March 2nd, was next and weakly induced a groundball to end the inning.

 441.
In the third, FSU attempted to cut into the lead as James Tibbs connected for a two-run blast to right center.

 442.

 443.

 444.
James Tibbs goes 437' for his 18th of the year pic.twitter.com/yd41DAnHWA
— FSU Baseball (@FSUBaseball) April 28, 2024
 445.

 446.
 447.
 448.

 449.
Ryan Denison tossed a clean third for Florida State but did not fare as well in the fourth. Duke had their first three batters each and FSU again hit the pen. Yoel Tejada picked up out number one with a K and then out two with a sacrifice fly. Unfortunately, he allowed a double to the next batter and Duke extended their lead to 15-4. In the fifth, Tejada struck out the side but allowed another Duke run in the sixth. In the seventh, the Seminoles could not pull within 10 and the game was called for run rule. Overall a successful series despite the poor Sunday showing.

 450.
Saturday: Carson Dorsey and the long ball were the difference as FSU locks up the series

 451.
Did Carson Dorsey save the Seminole season?

 452.
After two of the three starters in the FSU rotation went down a month ago, Link Jarrett did not know where to look for length or outs. He turned to Carson Dorsey, a transfer who had been coming out of the bullpen to start his Florida State tenure, to help lessen the blow of Cam Leiter and Conner Whittaker. After a couple of rocky starts, he has been nails the last few weeks. He carried the Seminoles to a win against Wake Forest last week, and he did it again for a series-clinching victory against Duke on Saturday.

 453.
The game started as a pitcher’s duel, a different start to last night's ball game. Florida State recorded just one hit through two innings, a two-out Daniel Cantu single that got through the shift on the right side. Carson Dorsey matched his Duke counterpart as he sat down three Blue Devil batters on strikes, half of the first six outs of the game.

 454.
The game's first run came courtesy of freshman Cal Fisher, who drew in for Drew Faurot. He smashed a lead-off HR to start the third for an early 1-0 advantage for Florida State. In the following inning, the Seminoles doubled their advantage as Jamie Ferrer made no mistake with a 2-0 fastball as he deposited his second HR in two days into the stands. Link Jarrett mentioned on Tuesday that he needed a night off, but his injuries would not linger. They certainly have not.

 455.
Carson Dorsey would find his most difficulty of the evening in the fourth. The lefty gave up a lead-off single, and then two batters later, the game was tied with a two-run HR. Dorsey would hit the next batter, leading to early action in the Seminole bullpen, but after Micah Posey came out to calm him down, he sat down the next two hitters to end the threat.

 456.
Florida State would respond instantly in the fifth. After Lodise struck out as the leadoff batter, Max Williams doubled, and Cam Smith walked to put two on the base paths for the first time in the game. Marco Dinges came up with two outs, and his clutch at-bats throughout the year continued as he smashed a three-run blast as FSU retook the lead 5-2. The first five Florida State runs came from the long ball as the ‘Noles displayed their physicality.

 457.

 458.

 459.
Got that lead back thanks to Marco Dinges!

His 11th HR of the year!

B5 | FSU 5, Duke 2 pic.twitter.com/ZFlM6WPYbd
— FSU Baseball (@FSUBaseball) April 27, 2024
 460.

 461.
 462.
 463.

 464.
Link Jarrett’s team would continue to add on as they scored in four straight innings. In the sixth, the bottom of the order came through once again as Fisher walked, and Lodise brought him with a double to deep center. Cam Smith would single later in the frame, and the ‘Noles would jump out to a 7-2 lead.

 465.
The seventh inning would mark the end of Dorsey’s day. He finished with a line of 6.0 IP, 8 K, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, and 102 pitches as he did everything Link Jarrett needed. Joe Charles came in for relief and pitched a 1-2-3 inning as it seemed like the ‘Noles would cruise to victory. Instead, it can never be easy, and a frame later, the game almost got away.

 466.
Joe Charles came out for the eighth but did not look like his usual fireman. He loaded the bases with no outs with a walk, forcing Link Jarrett into a change. Freshman Connor Hults faced a mess but did not do a great job limiting the damage. A fielder’s choice, a couple of walks and wild pitches, and a single brought home two Duke runs and cut the Seminole advantage in half.

 467.
Andrew Armstrong came in for the ninth and did not make it easy. He gave up a lead-off home run that made it a 7-6 game and a single after that to bring the winning run to the plate. Abraham would allow a single and a hit batter after that, and with two on and one out, Link Jarrett turned the game over to freshman John Abraham. He shut the door as he induced a pop-out in foul territory against the first batter he faced, and fellow first-year player Cal Fisher made an impressive defensive play at short to shut the door, and the ‘Noles took the series. The bullpen gave up four runs in two innings and never made the endings of games easy. But, the Seminoles came to Durham with one goal in mind, which was accomplished with a series win.

 468.

 469.
Friday: First inning offense and timely pitching wins game one for the Seminoles.

 470.
FSU scored four in the first and the combination of Jamie Arnold and Brennen Oxford handled the rest in FSU’s game one win over Duke, 4-2.

 471.
The Seminoles jumped out to an early lead thanks to the combination of small ball and power. With one out, Cam Smith reached with a single and then James Tibbs was hit by a pitch. Marco Dinges drove in Cam with a single and then Jaime Ferrer crushed a three-run shot to left center.

 477.
 478.

 479.
Duke struck right back in the bottom of the first thanks to an error by Smith. The Blue Devils led off the frame with a double before placing runners on the corners thanks to the errant throw. A single brought in Duke’s first run, Arnold struck out three in the inning. In the second, neither team scored, and Arnold added to his punch out total with two more. The Seminoles were again stymied in the third while Duke cut further into FSU’s lead with a sacrifice fly. Arnold had an off inning, as he only recorded one strike out in the third.

 480.
Despite Arnold’s success, his pitching count climbed quickly as the home plate umpire was inconsistent, to put it lightly. Both teams were scoreless in the fourth. Arnold with his seventh strikeout of the game. In the fifth, FSU looked to be back in business when Drew Faurot reached second on an error but he was quickly wiped out in a fielder’s choice right back to the pitcher. In the sixth, Arnold passed 100 pitches but picked up strike outs number eight and nine. FSU’s offense continued struggling through the sixth as batters went 1-2-3. The Seminoles went without a hit from the second through the sixth innings. Brennen Oxford took the mound in the sixth. Arnold’s final line: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K.

 481.
Lodise finally broke the hitless steak in the seventh with a leadoff single. He’d advanced to second on a wild pitch but FSU would have three straight retired to end the threat. Oxford was fantastic from the sixth through the eighth, allowing just two hits and fanning four. In the ninth, FSU loaded the bases but Smith’s home run attempt died against the wall. Coach Link Jarrett chose to stick with Link in the ninth and Duke took advantage. A lead off double and a single surrounded one strike out. The Seminoles called to the pen for Connor Hults to try and preserve the game. Hults picked up the first out almost immediately with a line drive to third. Smith made an incredible play on the diving stop. Hults then picked up the 15th punch out of the night for FSU pitching to clinch game one, 4-2.

 565.

 738.

 739.
Beachum is the first Seminole to win the award this season and is the first true freshman from Florida State to be named ACC Player of the Week since Sydney Sherrill on April 10, 2018.

 740.
Beachum has had one of the best freshmen seasons in school history and this past week was no different. Beachum hit four home runs in five games and tallied eight RBI to bring her season total to 50. Beachum hit .467 on the week with seven hits and was also walked four times to end the week with a .550 on base percentage. Beachum also posted a 1.333 slugging percentage.

 741.
Beachum is not only one of the best freshmen hitters in the country but one of the best overall hitters in the country. Beachum’s .447 batting average ranks 12th in the country. Beachum also ranks in the top 25 nationally in hits, RBI and slugging percentage.

 742.
Beachum is on pace to break the FSU freshman record for batting average, hits, RBI, slugging percentage and on base percentage. She needs just nine RBI to break Sherrill’s freshman record of 58 RBI which would also put her seventh all-time on FSU’s top 10 list for most single season RBI.

 802.
Here’s what Coach Hamilton had to say about Ewin, quoted in an article by SID Chuck Walsh on Seminoles.com:

 803.
“He’s versatile, will help us both offensively and defensively, and plays hard all of the time. Malique is a true all-around player, who makes big time plays on offense and defense.”

 804.
This adds to a tumultuous last week for FSU that has seen the loss of Watkins and starting point guard Jalen Warley, but the addition on Ewin and wing transfer Jerry Deng. Counting three high school signees, there are currently 7 players on the Seminoles’ roster, so it’s safe to say Hamilton and Co. aren’t done yet.

 844.
In this episode, Minnick and Rogner reflect on Florida State’s 2023-2024 basketball season — an inconsistent and frustrating year from the Seminoles that the duo attributes to a lack of competitiveness and defensive issues.

 845.
The two also talk about the ACC’s performance in the tournament, noting the conference’s overachievement relative to seeding and discussing reasons behind this trend, such as the ACC being undervalued by metrics and poor conference scheduling: a reflection of ACC leadership’s strategies and the conference’s overall management, especially in comparison to other conferences.

 846.
They also discuss FSU’s roster, from the impact of departing players (De’Ante Green, Baba Miller and Primo Spears) to potential transfers and recruits for Florida State, emphasizing the need for experienced players from winning programs to improve the team’s competitiveness and toughness.

 1013.
“We’re pleased and excited to enter into this partnership with Brandr,” said Michael Alford, FSU Vice President and Director of Athletics. “This agreement is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that we are helping our student-athletes have access to the types of services necessary for maximizing their value as they pursue NIL opportunities that allow them to both earn money and garner practical work experience....”

 1019.
The project, funded by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), is a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional collaboration that aims to improve patients’ ability to understand their test results and participate in shared decision-making with their doctors.
