13.
I am a model engineer and am toying with the idea of building a 3D printer?
14.
15. I am currently converting my milling machine to CNC and have built all the electronics, and am making the hardware
16. to fit the stepper motors to my mill (and doing a working demo of progress so far on 9 Sep in Exeter for my local
17. engineering club if anyone is interested in coming along...)
18.
19. ...back to the original subject, having gone through a learning curve to do the above I started looking
20. again at the RepRap site - also partly because my office has a temporary loan of a 3D printer (CubeX, which
21. does not seem to be particularly well regarded?) and I thought I could use this to print the parts for a Huxley
22. perhaps, I can make up the stainless/threaded rods easily enough and perhaps build or buy the controller/stepper
23. drives?
24.
25. Seems to be fairly small scale compared to my CNC project (which uses NEMA 34 stepper motors) so I thought might
26. be a lot cheaper - I am not really wanting to spend 500-600 UKP on one
27.
28. Any thoughts? Looks like the RepRap store is closed now, but I have the build details and STL files etc and am wondering
29. about things like the heated bed etc? Can you get plans for this, or is there a supplier anywhere? There seems to be
30. a bewildering array of offerings but I prefer the DIY approach!
31.
32. Regards
43.
Hi all I find all the above post very interesting as I have been using sanguinololu for about 2 years now without any problems on four home made printers and found it great. I have now got a bee in my bonnet about adding a second extruder to my printer, and after a lot of searching I stumbled accross an eagle design for a sanguinololu add on known as "Slum 1.0.1" this is a reasonable simple to construct board plugging onto the sanguinololu expansion pins, and so I thought that I would give it a try, my problem is how to amend the marlin configuration.h and other marlin files to address the expansion pins and therefore the second extruder. Can anyone help or better still has anyone made and used this design who can provide answers to problems they found.

 90.
Hi
91. I bought a Prusa Mendel kit from Stewart last year and have just replaced the chip to be able to run Marlin. I'm having difficulty configuring it without access to the numbers Stewart downloaded on the old chip. Did anyone else buy a kit from Stewart, and if so, do you know how it was programmed? He may have put a file online for us to refer to, but I've searched Github and can't find one there. Alternatively, does anyone know how to contact Stewart? The details he gave me for email, phone and website no longer work.
92. Thanks
128.
Couple of vaguely-related questions before we go any further - whereabouts in the country are you? There may be someone local who could help as hands-on is much better than at-a-distance! Secondly, do you have a simple meter to check voltages and so on? A cheap digital multimeter from Maplin or similar is pretty much a necessity for any sensible fault-finding (Maplin are listing a "domestic multimeter" for about £9 at the moment that would do everything you are likely to need at this stage). Also, are you using Pronterface to drive the board? Is it showing information coming back from the Sanguinololu when you first connect?
129.
130. Assuming you have access to a meter, the first step could be to start looking around the board and checking that correct voltages appear in the right places. In the first instance, I would check that there is 12V on each Pololu - or even that the 12V supply is delivering that to the board. Really simple checks that can turn up silly faults. However, you also need to be confident that the Gcode is getting to the board, so there are a number of lines of approach.
131.
132. Start with answers to my first few questions, and we can see what we can do.
143.
I know this is a long dead thread on the forum, but I believe my issue directly relates to your large original response to Charlie.
144.
145. I am running the Sanguinololu and got over the hurdle of getting firmware onto the board. As of right now, I cannot move X,Y,Z or the E motor. You mentioned needing the 12v power hookup to make them move, which I understand. I have the power plugged in as well as the USB (of course, otherwise it would never connect to Pronterface)
146.
147. I figure I have a problem with the board (bought it as part of the Eventorbot kit), or the wire terminals, or the wires themselves, or my solder points, or the wire order (which I was told to modify as part of the installation of everything as it came as a DIY kit). I doubt it is a problem with every motor, wire, solder point though, as it is an issue that stops them all from working.
148.
149. Which makes me come back to the board or the way the board distributes power to the motors. I have Sangunololu v1.3
150.
151. Again, sorry to revive a long dead thread :/

 282. However, Jan, I am only in Harbertonford, a few miles south of you, and I have a Prusa in the garage. I'm currently investigating why it isn't printing properly (extruder problem), but I would be happy to talk over the build process with you. I also have a moderately well-equipped workshop so might be able to help if you decide to build one in due course.
283.
284. PM me for contact details if you are interested - happy to help spread the reprap word!
297. I'm going to say at this point it's probably a better idea to not worry about coming to Exeter tomorrow. As nobody else is able to attend, and I have some pretty urgent matters to deal with, I'm afraid I simply won't be able to be at the workshop long enough to make it worthwhile.
298.
299. If you are able to, then visiting at some point during the week would be a better idea. I can then spend a good few hours going over everything with you.
381.
Greetings Devon RepRappers.
382.
383. I think a few of you already know me, but for those that don't I run a small business selling repraps and providing support for them.
384.
385. I'm interested in running some workshops on a semi-regular basis - free of charge - to anyone that is either having problems getting their printer working (regardless of where you got it from) or just want to come and have a look at what this whole 3d printing stuff is all about.
386.
387. would that interest anyone here? These would take place from my workshop in Exeter, most likely on Saturdays.
388.
389. I did host an event a few months ago for the West of England group, and that went pretty well. There was even cake!
390.
391. What are your thoughts on that?
