7. Anyone interested?
 8. I'm using Alibre but I can read and write quite a number of other parametric CAD-formats to design this.
 9. Rods and shoulder-pad as well as nuts and bolts will be the only non-printed parts.
 10. If things run well we may also do a follow-focus.

 42.
43. The problem is that the plastic connection which joins and holds the extending arm in place snapped. I don't know a correct term for the piece, or anywhere to find it. If anyone could help me, I'd be grateful... I can be contacted at grikmeer [a.t.) gmail {dot] com

 109.
110. Great project. I am just getting into the RepRap thing ordered a kit to get me started but am more than happy to offer feedback on any of your design elements/bounce ideas off of as this is one of the projects I envisioned from the start.
111. In terms of all the nuts and bolts in the pic one of the things I wanted to try for myself is to create a c-clamp kind of thing using the thread kit off of thingiverse and set it so those would grab the bars etc rather than using metal bits. Not sure if it would grip enough however.
112.
113. The follow focus addon would be good too. How have you found the shoulder mount so far?
114.
115. Anyhow once I get my head around the design software this weekend I'll have a look at the files, great work looks spot on.

 938. > Heh, sorry for not offering any help. Bolts that
939. > go through the rods? That doesn't sound right.
940.
941. Indeed.
942. It was just a quick fix.
943.
944. > I made a variation of this design
945. > (http://vimeo.com/10432755) and found that the
946. > bolts crushed the rods.
947.
948. It works better of you don't press a flat surface to a round
949. rod so that the rod has no where to move but to go flat.
950. With a round connector it works very well.
951.
952. I suggest good quality bicycle handles on the bars.
953. I use rubber+cork ones and they are extremely comfortable.
954.
955. Contrary to your design I tried to stay compatible
956. with 15mmx60mm industry standard rod-systems, so
957. one can combine the design with commercial
958. shoulder-pads, follow focus, bard doors,...
959.
960.
961. > I'll spend some time this
962. > evening going over your work. I try and find some
963. > ways to help.
964.
965. That would be great.
966. The issue is delamination if the rod is not going along the
967. normal axis of the print-plane.
968. If I make it thicker or longer, the leverage increases and it
969. will break even earlier. If I make it thinner, it is too thin to
970. take any torque.
971. For the handles I could have the rod end inside the T-connector.
972. But that does not help with the T-connectors at the front of the main rails.
973.
974. It MAY be an option to have 2 clamps on the problematic rods.
975. I did not evaluate that yet.
976.
977. > That's a really interesting
978. > shoulder mount attachment you've got; what is
979. > that?
980.
981. It's a "Seagull".
982. About 40-60eur plastic shoulder-rig.
983. [www.enjoyyourcamera.com]
984. (Being a 15mmx60mm rig you can of cause use any other means of shoulder-pad or
985. even none at all with the design.)
986. It has the advantage of being a) cheap and b) staying on your shoulder hands free
987. if needed. I find that very comforting from the standpoint of
988. safety (expensive camera and optics) and usability (quickly manipulate something with both hands).
989. The Seagull itself is not good. It's just a shoulder-support. Not a stabilizer at all.
990. If you clamp it down to your chest as it's supposed to be used every breath will shake
991. the camera.
992.
993. You can find all about it on my project page
994. [sourceforge.net]
1096. I haven't yet figured out the optimal distance of of the lower rails from the higher. The design is parameterized, so you can adjust it easily as a global variable (lower_rails_x_offset and lower_rails_y_offset). I won't be able to tweek it until the shoulder strap bracket is fully designed. I have an idea of what I want but I haven't yet committed it to github. I don't think the distance needs to be adjustable in a part, since it's easy to print many different parts and keep them around for different configurations and distances (the parameterized design makes this trivial).
1098. Quick release will probably be added later; using nuts and bolts is easier than worrying about the quick release for now.
