41.

.It’s been a while but I had to share some observations about the state of race relations in the United States of America.

 42.
I just saw the report of a young Black college student who was falsely accused of rape by a White student. What came to mind is the facts about Emmett Till. Emmett was murdered, at the age of 14, because a White woman accused him of whistling at her in 1955.

 43.
The young college student was asked to leave school immediately. He lost his scholarships. He wasn’t allowed to tell his side of the story. For 18 months he remained silent.

 44.
Emmett is dead forever. He will never speak again.

 45.
The young college student is suffering as a result of the trauma, but has decided to put his pain into his passion.

 46.
Emmett wasn’t allowed to live long enough to clear his name. We won’t ever know what he could have become.

 47.
Now that the accuser has told the truth about what happened, the young college student is working on clearing his name and rebuilding his life.

 48.
Emmett’s name is eternally associated with the hatred of Blacks in Jim Crow America.

 49.
The young college student admits to having sex with the white student. They both admit that it was consensual.

 50.
Emmett would NEVER have been able to admit that he even liked a white girl. To have sex with one was as dangerous as playing with a rattle snake.

 51.
Some will likely try to use this more recent incident as an example of how bad racism still is in the United States of America. When they do, you can give them an example of how bad racism really was and ask them to stop trivializing the fate of young men like Emmett Till by comparing today’s racial tensions with what Emmett and many other Black men and women experienced.

 52.
If Emmett’s story doesn’t convince them of the fact that there has been a radical change in the status of Blacks in America, you can tell them about another similar incident that occurred in Greenwood, Oklahoma. In this tragedy, the area of town known as Black Wall Street was destroyed, and hundreds were killed, because a White woman accused a Black man of sexual assault.

 53.
This is not to say that racism no longer exists in the hearts and minds of men and women today. It is to say that even if there are some White men who don’t like to see Black men having sex with White women, it is no longer legal for them to murder them, unlike in the days of Emmett Till or the days of Dick Rowland.

 54.
Get a grip on reality. Look at the ones who have benefited from teaching our children that they are still subject to the murderous outrage of their White neighbors. They can hold on to their power as long as they can continue to plant those seeds of fear. They know that if you don’t fear your neighbor, you won’t be afraid of them either!

 55.
Here’s the story:

 56.

 73.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (AMP)

 74.
For those who are asking themselves,

 75.
“What just happened?”

 76.
I’m here to let you know that God kept His promise. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is an example of a promise from God to His people. There are requirements, as usual, and there is an assurance that comes from knowing that He never breaks His promises. In this election season, His people did their part and He did His part.

 77.
I met some of the prayer warriors that went into action. I actually had the honor of praying with some of them. I joined them because I know from personal experience that when God’s people are in the right position, with the right perspective, and the right attitude, God shows up.

 78.
As we saw on the historic night of the 2016 Presidential Election, He sometimes shows off. He does this in such a way that those who don’t believe in Him are often left without a clue as to the fact that something extraordinary happened. That’s why you won’t hear about this phenomenon in the news. The major news organizations are generally filled with people who don’t even believe there is a God and those who only give Him lip service – mostly on holidays.

 79.
It is hard for some to understand our concerns, but that’s not because there is no evidence of what was truly at stake. There are some who have manufactured the lie that says there was no difference in the candidates running for president. That may be true to the natural eye, but God’s people recognized some stark differences.

 80.
One thing we recognized is that one candidate threatened our God-given right to serve Him with our whole lives. You see, some of us do not believe that we are only called to be Christians within our homes or in our churches. We are commanded by God to serve Him with all of our minds, our souls, our hearts and to do so with all of our strength and to do so consistently.

 81.
Thankfully, that was enough to scare many of His people into action. I watched as one after another, they humbled themselves and prayed. I heard the cries of sorrow as they mourned over their sins. I listened as they asked for God’s forgiveness. There were confessions that included the fact that they had allowed themselves to forget the Great Commission, among other very important instructions found in the Bible.

 82.
Here’s the deal – once we are born again, we receive the Spirit of God. The Bible actually tells us that the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us. He also leads us and guides us as we seek to know the truth. We also have His words of instruction, correction and reproof in the Bible. Because of this, those who have truly surrendered themselves and transferred their right to control their own lives to God, have the inside scoop.

 83.
People like to lump us all together, but even the strongest critics of Christians and Christianity can tell you who is real and who is not. They are okay with the fakes. It’s the sold out ones that they want isolated – however that needs to happen. Their number one goal is to silence any semblance of sincere commitment to the Bible or to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

 84.
While we are alive and active, we will have access to the best that God has to offer. I’m excited about what this means for our nation and for the world as He is allowed to use those who have been called to action. God is love and He still wants the best for His creation. We will continue to pray.

 85.
For some, what happened in the 2016 Presidential election was a surprise. For committed Christians, it was a miracle! The only thing I can guarantee is that it will not be the last one!

 103.

The Great Commission

 104.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
105. Matthew 28:18–20 (NKJV)

 106.
This is one of many instructions from Jesus. Like a lot of His instructions, this one is generally truncated or ignored by the modern day church. There is a willingness to share and participate in the command to spread the gospel, and we have a whole denomination dedicated to the act of baptizing, but very little time is devoted to making disciples.

 107.
Sometimes this oversight is due to the fact that people don’t seem to understand what the word disciple means. Let’s look at some definitions of “disciple”.

 108.

To disciple is: To teach; to train, or bring up.
109. A disciple is: A follower; an adherent to the doctrines of another. Hence the constant attendants of Christ were called his disciples; and hence all Christians are called his disciples, as they profess to learn and receive his doctrines and precepts.

 110.
According to Webster, we should have an action by one or more that leads to actions or behaviors in others. Unfortunately, we have created a “have it your way” form of Christianity. We are under grace, so we are quick to argue that we are not bound by laws that would obligate us to act or behave in any particular way.

 111.
And unfortunately, this attitude is found in the teachers as well as those they are called to teach. In fact, there is a great deal more teaching of this “have it your way” brand of Christianity, than there is actually any making of disciples of Christ. There are even a lot of people getting baptized, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit who have never been discipled! I was baptized at least 3 times before I had any idea about the significance of being baptized, but I was never discipled to follow Christ.

 112.
The good news is that God has given us His Spirit. I believe that He understood that teachers of the pure and sincere gospel would become few and far between. Jesus said:

 113.

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
114. ~John 16:12-14 ESV

 115.
In the commentary titled Expositions of Holy Scripture, Alexander MacLaren says this about making disciples:

 116.

“He is to be the ‘Spirit of truth’ to all the ages, who in simple verity will help true hearts to know and love the truth. There are three things in the words before us-first, the avowed incompleteness of Christ’s own teaching; second, the completeness of the truth into which the Spirit of truth guides; and, last, the unity of these two.”

 117.
This commentary has a lot to say, but to keep this message short; we need to simply understand that we cannot use the inadequacies of our church leaders as an excuse for not becoming disciples of Christ. If we are sincere in our desire to follow Christ, and if we cannot find the necessary instruction in the natural, we need to remember and accept the fact that Jesus promised to disciple us by His Spirit!
Here’s our Freedom theme verse:

 135.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
136. ~John 8:31-32 ESV

 137.
Now let’s look at some definitions while we explore what it means to abide.

 138.
Abide
139. ABI’DE, v. i. pert. and part. abode.

 140.
abada, to be, or exist, to continue; W. bod, to be; to dwell, rest, continue, stand firm, or be stationary for anytime indefinitely. Class Bd. No 7.]

 141.

 142.
To rest, or dwell. Gen 29:19.

 143.
To tarry or stay for a short time. Gen 24:55.

 144.
To continue permanently or in the same state; to be firm and immovable. Psa 119:90.

 145.
To remain, to continue. Acts 27:31. Eccl 8:15.

 146.

 147.
ABI’DE, v.t.

 148.
1. To wait for; to be prepared for; to await.

 149.
Bonds and afflictions abide me. Acts 20:23.

 150.
[For is here understood.]

 151.
2. To endure or sustain.

 152.
To abide the indignation of the Lord. Joel 10.

 153.
3. To bear or endure; to bear patiently. “I cannot abide his impertinence.”

 154.

…In general, abide by signifies to adhere to, maintain defend, or stand to, as to abide by a promise, or by a friend; or to suffer the consequences, as to abide by the event, that is, to be fixed or permanent in a particular condition..

 155.
~Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

 156.
By this definition from Websters 1828 Dictionary, we get a clarification of what Jesus meant. In the Western world, when we abide it is related to how and/or where we live. However, in the Western world, living is something that we do almost unintentionally. The term “hang loose” is what many strive for. They are afraid of looking like they “meant to” do something because of the ridicule that comes if they are not successful at it.

 157.
Jesus requires much more than a “hang loose” attitude toward His word. The Greek word translated “abide” is a verb that indicates a lot more than a “loose” relationship with God’s word.

 158.
G3306
159. μένω
160. menō
161. Thayer Definition:

 162.
1) to remain, abide

 163.
1a) in reference to place

 164.
1) to sojourn, tarry

 165.
2) not to depart

 166.
2a) to continue to be present

 167.
2b) to be held, kept, continually

 168.
1b) in reference to time

 169.
1) to continue to be, not to perish, to last, endure

 170.
1a) of persons, to survive, live

 171.
1c) in reference to state or condition

 172.
1) to remain as one, not to become another or different

 173.
2) to wait for, await one
174. Part of Speech: verb

 175.
Now, let’s put all the parts into our picture. To be disciples of Jesus that know and are set free by the truth, we need to abide in His word. That means we need to tarry in it, not to depart from it, but to continue to be present in it. His words need to be held on to and kept, continually. Our commitment to His word should not perish, but it needs to last and endure. Our focus should not waiver.

 176.
Imagine what the church would look like if we were to adhere to, maintain and properly defend His words? What if we were fixed on it in such a way that it became a permanent part of our lives?

 177.
Looking at this, is it any wonder that there are so many of us that are not walking in freedom?

 178.
Know truth, Know freedom….
179. No truth, no freedom!

 195.

In today’s society there is a lot of talk about freedom. Some people believe that once they reach a certain age they have the freedom to do whatever they want. Some people think that just because they are alive they can do the same. When we examine the things that people do based on the fact that they believe they have the freedom to do them, we find some of the best and the worst that man has to offer.

 196.
I often hear a quote from Jesus that says “the truth will set you free!” That is one of those bottom lines that everyone can agree with. Truth will, at the very least, set us free from believing what is not true. That’s a kind of freedom. What I seldom hear is what Jesus was referring to as “truth”. Here’s the whole statement:

 197.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
198. ~John 8:31-32 ESV

 199.
According to Jesus, there are some pretty definite prerequisites to being set free by the truth. First we have to acquire the truth. Jesus said we can acquire the truth when we “abide in” His “word”. When we do this, He says we will truly become His disciples. This implies that we don’t know what it is that Jesus defines as the truth that will “set you free” unless we are His disciples!

 200.
So the freedom to make a fool of ourselves or to pursue things that are of no value are not likely what Jesus would call being free. Of course, God has given us the free will to do whatever we want to do, but Jesus seems to have something specific in mind when He defines what it is to be free.

 201.
Later, we can look at what it is to “abide” in Him and then we can look for some definitions of what a “disciple” is in scripture and even in the dictionary.

 202.
The bottom line is that free is not equal to fool, but I know from personal experience that it will keep you full.
