Hercules Tires and WAC student-athletes will partner during the month of May for Mental Health Awareness Month to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in the lives of student-athletes.<br>&nbsp;<br>As part of the campaign, WAC student-athletes will highlight their own thoughts on mental health and how mental health motivates them as athletes on the WAC social media platforms.<br>&nbsp;<br>"Today, we proudly announce Hercules Tires' groundbreaking partnership with the Western Athletic Conference, marking a historic milestone for both organizations," said Nakia Medlin, Sr. Director of Marketing Hercules Tires. Arriving on campus in 1964, he established himself as a talented football student-athlete, earning recognition as team MVP in both 1965 and 1966. Matthews' exceptional skills on the field also led to his selection to the preseason All-American Team in 1967. Following graduation, he returned to his hometown of Houston, where he pursued a distinguished career in law, working more than three decades as a successful corporate lawyer before retiring at the age of 59.&nbsp;</p> <p>Matthews' generous gift is a testament to his unwavering commitment to supporting the next generation of Mavericks by ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to excel both athletically and academically.&nbsp;</p> <p>"We are immensely grateful to Raymond&nbsp;"Wings"&nbsp;Matthews for his extraordinary generosity and dedication to UTA Athletics," said Jon Fagg, UTA athletics director.
