47.
Australia Day. The day where we slack off with our only worries being the cricket and the Triple J Hottest 100. Admittedly, we all knew who was going to win, Gotye, “Somebody I Used to Know”. Playing it was much like a formality, the final victory march of a great song, even though we had all gotten a bit sick of it. So the real question was, who was going to make up the top ten. Silly people starting shouting, “Pumped Up Kicks!!!!!” But what they didn’t realise was that it was released as a single in 2010 so it was in that countdown.

 48.
But the real issues caused, were suffered later in the night. I’m so tired right now because I couldn’t sleep. Endless playing of songs prevented me from sleeping and now I have what can be called a music hangover.

 49.
All in all, a great day of music and fun. And it was good to see 7 of the top 10 were Australian. Although the Belgians would disagree.

 95.
As kids, we’re told to eat our veggies, listen to what adults say, and never, ever speak to strangers. But most of us, when we become older, will naturally speak to strangers more openly and realise, sometimes these are conversations worth remembering. Whether the other person had a great story to tell, or you are just happy because you fancied the person you were talking to, it doesn’t matter, we all share something.

 96.
Australia, being a tourist country, we find ourselves talking to people from all over the world. Sometimes, they speak limited English and we use things other than words. There are so many ways to get a message across without words; your expression, your movements and just your general vibe. Throwing away words gives us a chance to share things in a new way. Thrupence has done away with lyrics (whether that is because he likes to stay instrumental or simply can’t sing, I don’t know) and explored a way of communicating through just sounds and pretty melodies.

 135.
I don’t know why when I was six years old I felt that was worth writing about, I mean, what am I supposed to feel when I look back and read it now? Should I be proud that I could eat four weet-bix at the age of six? Should feel ashamed that I didn’t get changed before I went to eat breakfast? Should I realise that I’ve been brushing my teeth before eating breakfast for most of my life? Or should I not give a rat’s ass? Why are you still here anyway? 169.
If you’ve been in Sydney, you would’ve realised that the our weather has gone through a rough patch. He’s gotten dumped by his girlfriend and has been depressed at best. Buuuut, as we know, Summer isn’t just about the heat, its about the vibe. Summer is a relaxed time where nothing wrong can possibly happen, we smash India in cricket and there is a lifetime’s supply of ice cream in the freezer. So don’t let the weather get you down, you can still feel the summerness if you try. First, no matter what the temperature is, wear a singlet, boardies and thongs. Get some zinc on your nose, some mates in the car and head down to the beach. And to top it off, put on some Australian Hip Hop, and there you have a summer. It doesn’t matter if you’re freezing your ass off its still Summer.

 170.
Thundamentals have that smooth, chill attitude which is a characteristic of OzHop. Hip Hop in Australia is unlike any other in the world. Americans always seem angry at something, whereas we’re just cruising along the beach. That’s why I love it, it has Summer written all over it.

As Jim Carey’s memory is erased, he runs from the disappearing memories as they melt away. That’s the kind of thing that Rainbow Chan‘s music brings to my mind. There’s a great story told in her music and sometimes it seems as if your trapped in the electronic kaleidoscope that weaves itself around you. The mix of electronics was daunting at first but if you can give in to it, it’ll take you somewhere wonderful.

 246.
Sometimes, even when you are staring down what you think is the biggest whole you’ve ever seen, you can see a sparkle. In this case, I was having a peep into Adelaide, the city of 2 minute tours; take ten steps and you’ve seen it all. To be fair, however, Adelaide does play host to some of the biggest music festivals. It is also home to electronic group, Mammoth Logic. With a fat bass and retro synths bringing out the sparkly pants and shutter glasses, these guys are golden! So golden, in fact, that they won Triple J Unearthed‘s competition to play at Parklife back in 2010. They’re more 70’s than That 70s Show and more 80s than Acceptable in the 80s with Craig Schuftan. If you like Cut Copy, these guys will definitely be in your ooo-I-just-love-that category.

 284.
Sydney is boring. I would list all the reasons now but I’ve already done that on my about page. So I’ll do what all authors do when they are asked to write in a magazine or something and tell you, “If you want to know more, go buy my book.” (Or just click on the ‘about’ link, its free!). As I was saying, Sydney is boring, just accept it and go with me. And when you’re bored, you want to go somewhere else. Your English teacher will tell to read a book. But that takes work. It means getting up and off your ass and going to find some book at the library with yellowed pages and mysterious looking blodges and patches which you would rather not touch.

 285.
The band, Playwrite offers another option. their music really does take you somewhere else; deep into the dark jungle. The layering of vocals give a tribal feel which takes you far and beyond your front door. But before you head out into the wide world, you must dress for the occasion. And sometimes you just need to dance in a lion suit.

 560.
The Little Stevies come flying out for the heart of indie music that is Melbourne, Victoria. They say that their music is “a breath of fresh nonsense”. I love this description! They are a young group and it shows in their music, they have an energy and enthusiasm only someone who is having fun can produce. Their music has a country touch to their youthful pop which makes it great for those long road trips on the highways while shouting, “COW!” and seeing how many cows respond.
