2. Taqwa vs. Sabr

 3.

 4. Game One

 5.

 6. 8PM

 7.
8. And then there were two.
9.
10. The teams fell off one by one. Sabr, first, with a huge group of players having incredibly down years. It was reminiscent of last year's Vancouver Canucks, where really good players like Daniel Sedin and Alex Burrows had just terrible seasons. Well, Yousuf Sowdagar, Yousuf Soliman and Akib Malik all combined for 1 goal all season.
11.
12. Then came Emaan. They seemed to overcome bad seasons of their own for Arif Bijabhai, Furqan Salaam, and Waqar Khan who combined for 1 goal all year. But Umair Awan, newly-acquired Hassan Badreddine and Hisham Ali carried the offensive load for the group and were actually the better team on the floor week in and week out. In the end, it wasn't the slumps that hurt them, it was the lack of discipline. That and weaker special teams. They had trouble converting on the powerplay and ultimately, Taqwa's PP was just too strong for Emaan's PK.
13.
14. So then, there were two.
15.
16. The season series between the two teams were as split as can be at 1-1-2. Other than the last game, which had the feel of a pickup game, the game's between the two teams were tied or decided by a single goal. Clearly the matchups here are tight.
17.
18. The Gameplan:
19.
20. The forward lines for Taqwa will likely be:
21.
22.

 23. LW - C - RW

 24.

 25. Shaukat Khan - Osman Buttar - Muhammad Bilal

 26.

 27. Safi Ahmad - Farooq Khan - Zaid Toorawa/Dani Umar

 28.

 29. Healthy Scratch: Naveed Mohammad.

 30.
31. The defense will likely be a mixed affair as they try to match lines.
32.
33. Ihsan will likely run these lines at forward:
34.
35.

 36. LW - C - RW

 37.

 38. Sajjid Ayubi - Omar Sabri - Usama Mahmood

 39.

 40. Yusuf Ingar - Ali Wadee - Omar Husain

 41.

 42. Qamar Mian (call up) - Junaid Mohammad - Ibrahim Hindy

 43.

 44. Scratched: Rizwan Malik (ACL injury).

 45.
46. Similar to Taqwa, expect the defense to change constantly as they try to matchup against specific forwards.
47.
48. The Matchup:
49.
50. Obviously the top line for Ihsan will be the focus for Sami Choudhry and company. Ihsan will have a tougher time getting the matchups they want considering Taqwa is essentially running two lines, but Ihsan will have to trust that the deeper lineup will wear down on Taqwa. Still, expect extra attention to be given to Shaukat Khan, who scored last week's game winner.
51.
52. Goaltending: Taqwa
53.
54. While Ali Khwaja has had a strong season, his numbers have dipped the past couple of weeks - likely due to absences from Tariq Ayubi and Dilawar Alvi. Still, he has played well but Ibad Khan has a breadth of experience which makes it difficult to bet against him.
55.
56. Defense: Tie
57.
58. Ihsan's defenders are better at well, defending. But Taqwa's group have a high skill level and are capable of making great passes through the neutral zone - not to mention putting up points on the board.
59.
60. I guess it depends what you value more but ultimately both defense groups have their own way of being effective.
61.
62. Forward: Ihsan
63.
64. Both teams have their snipers and scorers, and truthfully Taqwa's forwards were better at scoring this season than Ihsan's. But it's the depth on Ihsan's side that really tips the balance. Depth might not seem like a big deal when looking at a list of players that includes Shaukat Khan, Sajjid Ayubi, Omar Sabri, Safi Ahmed, Usama Mahmood, Osman Buttar, and company but with so many dangerous players on both sides, it's the small things that give you an edge.
65.
66. Special Teams: Taqwa
67.
68. The main reason Taqwa is in the finals is their PP. It's that significant. When I've had the opportunity to coach teams, I've always stressed that playoff games are often - usually - won and lost due to special teams. 5 on 5 hockey tends to even out between good teams so it comes down to special teams execution.
70. Emaan vs. Taqwa

 71.

 72. 11PM

 73.

 74. Let's call it a rematch. Taqwa versus Emaan in the semi-final just last year. And just like last year, Emaan qualifies for the playoffs on a win during the last game of the season.
75.

 76. But Emaan is hoping for a different fate this year. They've beaten or tied Taqwa in every game during the regular season, and certainly seem better prepared for the match-up this year.
77.

 78. Hisham Ali and Hassan Badreddine have given Emaan a lot of strength down the middle, allowing them to be more than just a team of runners.
79.

 80. Taqwa's individual accomplishments were well-noted. Four of the the top five scorers were from Taqwa with Shaukat Khan edging out teammate Sami Choudhry for the scoring title.
81.

 82. There's another aspect to this matchup: Emaan is the best defensive team in the league, allowing the fewest goals against while Taqwa is the best offensive team, scoring the most goals this season.
83.

 84. Who would you bet on? The best offense or the best defense?
85.

 86. Player to Watch: Sufyaan Shaikh has been heating up lately and seems like the perfect playoff type player with his combination of speed, grit and tenacity.
87.

 88. Who's Hot: Literally all of Taqwa. But it's a new season now, and scoring titles aren't worth much anymore.

Week Eleven - November 28th

 89. Sabr vs. Emaan

 90.

 91. 9PM

 92.

 93. Many of us may have begun writing Sabr's obituary a bit early. After a strong win against the league's best Ihsan (albeit a short-handed Ihsan squad), Sabr is now one win away from a playoff birth and a chance to defend their title.
94.

 95. More importantly, Sabr made some adjustment's that really paid off. For instance, moving Arssal Shahabuddin to forward paid off big time as he seemed to develop instant chemistry with Shuaib Hussain, who had four point game. The move also gave the team 3 formidable lines - something they had been missing all season long.
96.

 97. And it's something they'll definitely need against Emaan, which is the quintessential 3 line team. Emaan uses their full bench to their advantage, allowing them to play an extremely high-tempo game, which Sabr has had difficulty with all season long.
98.

 99. The season series between the two teams is all tied up at 1-1-1, the last game being the most memorable, as Emaan scored a shocking 3 goals in the last 1:40 to win the game 4-3.
100.

 101. This is the game of the week. It the first (unofficial) playoff game. Sabr needs a win to advance while Emaan can move unto the next round with a win or tie.
102.

 103. Player to Watch: Shuaib Hussain needs to step up again. When he's a force, Sabr is a much better team. There's no doubt about that.
104.

 105. Who's Hot: Hisham Ali has 7 points in 8 games and has been the epitome of consistency for Emaan.
106.
107.

 108. Taqwa vs. Ihsan

 109.

 110. 10PM

 111.

 112. This is the dreaded meaningless game. I don't even really want to write this preview, because there's not much to say.
113.

 114. Ihsan will likely continue to rest some of their players for this game, and while I haven't heard the same from Taqwa, you may expect them to do the same. In all likelihood, this game may end up as an opportunity for some players to pad their stats or just get a good run in before the playoffs begin.
115.

 116. It's probable that Taqwa's most intense part of the night will be watching the game beforehand.
117.

 118. Player to Watch: Sami Choudhry and Shaukat Khan are in a race for top spot as points leader. Sami has 15 points and Shaukat has 14 points.
119.

 120. Who's Hot: Mohammad Bilal has 6 points in his last 3 games. A great time to start heating up.

Week Ten - November 21st

 121. Ihsan vs. Sabr

 122.

 123. 11PM

 124.

 125.

 126. As if things couldn't get worse. That might be the tagline to Sabr's 2014 season. Maybe it's just a rebuilding year? Maybe Sabr is tanking, a la the Edmonton Oilers, in a bid to get next year's first round pick.
127.

 128. I'm throwing the excuses up front out here. Last week was another stomach turner in a season gone wrong for Sabr. After looking like a team on the cusp of overtaking 1st place, Sabr have now lost 4 in a row. And to make matters worse, they're having serious trouble holding unto leads. First they surrendered 3 goals in the last 1:40 of their game against Emaan to lose 4-3. Then last week, in what was billed as a must win game, they surrendered 2 goals, one with 57 seconds left in the game and another with 4 seconds left in the game to lose 2-1.
129.

 130. People are asking if Sabr is done. It certainly seems improbable for a playoff team to lose 4 straight and still qualify for the playoffs. And yet, Sabr can still make the playoffs if they win their last two games. In fact, even a tie against Ihsan and a win against Emaan would deliver Sabr to the qualifying round against Taqwa.
131.

 132. Sabr will need to improve on some weaknesses, one of which is a defense corps whom all seem a step slower than they were last year. Another is their league worst 14 goals for. Shuaib Hussain, who was drafted ahead of some other talented forwards, needs to start producing. As does Yousuf Sowdagar, who is still ailing from a shoulder injury, but needs to start providing more offense to this club. Gehad Alhundi and Imran Patel can't shoulder the offensive responsibilities all to themselves.
133.

 134. Ihsan meanwhile has comfortably clinched first place and with two games left on their schedule. Expect them to use this game to fine tune before the playoffs but don't expect Sabr to catch them off-guard. It will be a battle every step of the way.
135.

 136. Player to Watch: Yousuf Sowdagar needs to step it up. We've called him out already but 0 points in 7 games just won't do.
137.

 138. Who's Hot: Omar Husain scored the game-winner last week and now has 8 points in 8 games after a slow start to the season.
139.

Week Nine - November 14th

 140. Ihsan vs. Emaan

 141.

 142. 9PM

 143.

 144.

 145.

 146. The two highest flying teams will meet up this Friday in the battle for 1st place in the standings. Emaan has rung off two top big wins: first, they embarrassed Taqwa with a big 6-2 victory, then they scored 3 unanswered goals with 1:40 left in the game to stun Sabr and emerge with a 4-3 victory. The latter will likely go down as one of the greatest comebacks in I-Slam Hockey history.

 147.

 148.

 149.

 150. But what is undeniable is that Emaan's work ethic and ball-possession domination is starting to pay off in a big way. I've said from the start of the season that it is not reasonable to believe that Emaan will out-shoot their opponents so massively and not start having those shots turn into goals. As with all statistical variables, it will always regress to the mean. In this case, it meant that Emaan's shooting percentage would eventually rise and that their shots will eventually turn into goals (#fancystats, #PDO, #corsi).

 151.

 152.

 153.

 154. So, yeah. Emaan is out-shooting (and therefore out-possessing) their opponents. In fact, the only team that has been close to Emaan in the shot clock was Ihsan in their most previous match-up, where the shots were 24-22 favouring Emaan.

 155.

 156.

 157.

 158. But a lot of things have changed since the last time these two clubs met. Hassan Badreddine has supplied Emaan with a big presence down the middle and has been key in creating their new-found offense. Hisham Ali has continued to produce and with Ahmad Hathout notching his first of the season last week, there's plenty of good news on Emaan's side.

 159.

 160.

 161.

 162. But Ihsan stands undefeated in their last four games, and only three points away from clinching top spot in the standings and a straight trip to the finals. Emaan likely has their sights set on that same goal, even though only a few weeks ago they were trying to stay in the playoff hunt.

 163.

 164.

 165.

 166. Player to Watch: The way Hassan Badreddine has changed the dynamics with Emaan has been huge. Ihsan will need to key in on Badreddine who has 4 points in his last game.

 167.

 168.

 169.

 170. Who's Hot: Usama Mahmood has only played 3 games this season, was scoreless in one of those games (against Emaan, interestingly) but still has 6 points on the season.

 171.

 172.

 173.

 174.

 175.

 176. Taqwa vs. Sabr

 177.

 178. 10PM

 179.

 180.

 181.

 182. Sabr might be wearing Bruins yellow but they made their best impression of the Maple Leafs last Friday when they surrendered a 3-1 lead in the last 1:40 of what was the closest thing to a must-win game for Sabr.

 183.

 184.

 185.

 186. As much as that was a painful moment for Sabr, they need to put it behind them. This is the must win game of the season. If they lose this, you may as well count them out. Taqwa is the team they're chasing and a win would pull them into a tie.

 187.

 188.

 189.

 190. The good news for Sabr - and there isn't much available there - is that they may have found some decent chemistry on a line between Shuaib Hussain, call-up Aazar Zafar and winger Saleem Malik. This is important because Hussain and Malik have both been disappointments for Sabr this season, even though relatively high draft picks were spent on both of them. If Sabr can find a linemate for Yousuf Soliman and Akib Malik, both returning from suspension, they can fix the problems in the bottom of their lineup.

 191.

 192.

 193.

 194. Sabr should have realized that they can't win games by relying heavily on their top five forwards, so solving their line issues will go a long way. In fact, the reason both these teams are at the bottom of the standings is because they haven't found a way to effectively use their benches.

 195.

 196.

 197.

 198. Taqwa meanwhile has some bad news, as it appears that Safi Ahmed has suffered a knee injury. No word yet on whether he will be replaced but considering Ahmed played his most dominant game of the season last week against Ihsan, that is a big loss for Taqwa.

 199.

 200.

 201.

 202. This will definitely be the game to watch this week.

 203.

 204.

 205.

 206. Player to Watch: Shaukat Khan makes another appearance here. He's just to darn dangerous, especially on the PP. Be prewarned.

 207.

 208.

 209.

 210. Who's Hot: Sami Choudhry leads the league with 13 points and is on a 4 game point streak.

 211.

 217. An altercation during the Ihsan vs. Sabr game in which 4 players were issued Game Misconducts. After the OC reviewed the incident, the following individuals were suspended:

 218.

 219.

 220.

 221. - Ali Wadee (Ihsan) - 3 games

 222.

 223. - Yousuf Soliman (Sabr) - 2 games

 224.

 225. - Tariq Ayubi (Ihsan) - 1 game

 226.

 227. - Akib Malik (Sabr) - 1 game

 228.

 229.

 230.

 231. All parties appealed their suspensions and the OC reduced the suspensions issued to Ali Wadee (reduced to 2 game suspension) and Yousuf Soliman (reduced to 1 game suspension). The rest of the suspensions stand.

 232.

 233.

 234.

 235. This is a reminder to all players that we will continue to take these incidents seriously.

 236.

 237.

 238.

 239. We would also like to warn players on all teams to never leave their bench during an altercation - even if they were in the midst of a line change. Leaving the bench during an altercation is an automatic 5 game suspension, as doing so endangers the safety of the officials.

 240.

 241.

 242.

 243. Sabr vs. Emaan

 244.

 245. 10PM

 246.

 247.

 248.

 249. We said that Emaan would be desperate coming into last week's game and they responded with a 6 goal explosion over Ibad Khan and the Taqwa brigades. Emaan GM Salman Khalid explained it as such: "all the bounces we weren't getting in all the other games, we got today".

 250.

 251.

 252.

 253. While there might be some truth to Khalid's analysis, he may have been too modest. It looks as though Hassan Badreddine has really begun to mesh with his team and was pivotal in the creation of a few of their goals. But perhaps the most important factor in the game was that more and more of Emaan's players were showing confidence, with Umair Awan breaking out with a 3 goal night. Imagine how good Emaan will look when Arif Bijabhai and Ahmad Hathout break out of their slumps.

 254.

 255.

 256.

 257. The night was completely reversed for Sabr. While Emaan forced the mercy rule on their opponents, Sabr had to fight back from a 5-0 deficit to keep the clock from running out. Sabr captain Gehad Alhundi scored a couple of goals in the waning moments of the game but there's no question that his team did not come out to play.

 258.

 259.

 260.

 261. Sabr has completed a trade sending injured player Umar Muhammad to Taqwa for Saqib Ali (Taqwa will replace Umar via waivers). Meanwhile, Sabr is also hoping to see the debut of Nayu Akbar as well. Unfortunately, with the loss of Yousuf Soliman and Akib Malik for the game, Sabr will be under the gun to keep up with Emaan's legs.

 262.

 263.

 264.

 265. Sabr best chance at success will be with playing tough defense, limiting the opponents chances and besting them at special teams. Meanwhile, Emaan will need to try to run Sabr through the ground with their run game.

 266.

 267.

 268.

 269. Player to Watch: Zayd Agjee has the worst save percentage in the league but some of that is because he's not seeing a lot of shots. It's tough for a goalie to be sharp when he isn't seeing action for long portions of the game, but ultimately it's on Zayd to be better. His team does depend heavily on him.

 270.

 271.

 272.

 273. Who's Hot: Gehad Alhundi scored twice last week and will need to continue to produce as his team depends on him, now more than ever.

 274.

 275.

 276.

 277. Taqwa vs. Ihsan

 278.

 279. 11PM

 280.

 281.

 282.

 283. Just like Sabr's expected manpower loss, Ihsan is expecting to miss Omar Sabri and Usama Mahmood along with Tariq Ayubi and Ali Wadee (due to suspensions). That's four of Ihsan's top players missing while Taqwa is reeling off a bad loss last week against Emaan. That's what people might call a perfect storm.

 284.

 285.

 286.

 287. Taqwa is also expected to add Belal Hafeez after trading Saqib Ali to Sabr for injured player Umar Muhammad. Muhammad's injury is suspected to be more emotional than physical (week to week with a bruised ego).

 288.

 289.

 290.

 291. Nevertheless, the addition of Hafeez should give Taqwa some interested options, allowing them to dress Farooq Khan or Sami Choudhry at forward if they want to. That might give Taqwa some interesting looks for the opposition to deal with.

 292.

 293.

 294.

 295. Ihsan, playing without their full compliment of talent, will need to outwork their opponents if they want a chance to pull some points out of this match-up. If the game turns into a grind, it'll favour Ihsan. This is a big test for Ihsan, and they'll get a good look at what their depth really looks like.

 296.

 297.

 298.

 299. Player to Watch: Forward or defense, Sami Choudhry is always capable of burning the other teams. He roams all over the floor, regardless of position, and only needs one look to score.

 300.

 301.

 302.

 303. Who's Hot: Omar Husain has 5 points in his last two games and is starting to really settle in. He'll need to keep stepping up, especially with so many teammates missing this week.

 304.

 305.

 306.

 307.

 311. Ihsan vs Sabr

 312.

 313. 9PM-10PM

 314.

 315. After last week, there seems like a massive distance between Sabr and Ihsan in the standings but on second look, it's only 2 points.
316.

 317. Still, Sabr suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Taqwa last week and seems to have run through a mess of injury issues. First it was Hani Soliman, who scored in his first two games and appeared to be a great fit on the second line, to succumb to the injury bug with a broken ankle.
318.

 319. Last week, Yousuf Sowdagar dislocated his shoulder (for the umpteenth time) but looks like he's out for a bit. Absences have played another part but Sabr has played largely with less than 3 lines and sometimes only 2. Playing without depth is a losing strategy in a league where each team plays an uptempo game.
320.

 321. The team has commenced the waiver process to replace Hani with Nayu Akbar. There's hope that Nayu with his strong slapshot, can fill the void left by Hani on the second line as Shuaib Hussein and Saleem Malik have been unable to fit on that line.
322.

 323. While Sabr fell 2-0 last week, Ihsan pulled out a 2-0 win against Emaan. For a team that has allowed the most shots against per game, it was encouraging to see that Ihsan had finally taken as many shots as they had allowed last game.
324.

 325. Another massively encouraging sign for Ihsan was that the second line finally found the back of the net. With Yusuf Ingar scoring twice, the combination of Ingar, Ali Wadee and Omar Husain will be critical for the team to find continual success and out-possessing their opponents.
326.

 327. Player To Watch: Kaz Akbar has a league leading GAA and has generally given his team a chance to win, game in and game out.
328.

 329. Who's Hot: Omar Sabri has 8 points on the second, topping both teams in scoring.
330.

 331.
332.

 333. Taqwa vs Emaan

 334.

 335. 10PM - 11PM

 336.
337. With their backs against the walls and sitting at the bottom of the standings, Taqwa pulled out a gritty win against Sabr. It was the type of tight checking game they don't typically like to play as it limits their offensive weapons. But by sitting back and playing a more defensive style, Taqwa was able to score on the PP and eek out an important victory.
338.

 339. But the urgency that Taqwa felt last week will be felt completely by Emaan who now sit on the bottom of the standings and are in desperate need of points. It's unclear whether Waqar Khan will be back in the lineup. While he doesn't wear the C, it's clear that Khan plays a major leadership role on the team. And Khan will need to spur some production out of his teammates, as 1 goal in 6 games out of both Arif Bijabhai and Ahmed Hathout combined is not going to cut it.
340.

 341. While Emaan players have been upset that their games are never considered an I-Slam Hockey Rivalry Game. Well, that's because no one hates them (which is a good thing, right?). But the Taqwa - Emaan matchups are becoming something of a rivalry, as the games between the two teams are always highly contested. The last game was an intense, back and forth, and entertaining 4-4 tie.
342.

 343. Player To Watch: Shaukat Khan came through with a major goal on the PP last week which stood as the game winner. He has that clutch ability.
344.

 347. Emaan vs. Ihsan

 348.

 349. 10PM

 350.

 351.

 352.

 353. Emaan is fresh off a spirited game against Taqwa in which they battled back from 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 deficits and brought the game to a tie with 1:42 left in the game.

 354.

 355.

 356.

 357. Umair Awan and Arif Bijabhai finally came alive and contributed some big goals, along with Hisham Ali who has been the most consistent producer for Emaan. And in more Emaan related news, Emaan has replaced Haseeb Syed (knee injury) with big center Hassan Badreddine who is expected to make his I-Slam Hockey debut this Friday.

 358.

 359.

 360.

 361. While Tier-1 defensemen are relieved that they will no longer have to deal with Syed bearing down on them at full speed, Hassan represents the big center with a lethal shot that Emaan has been missing all season. This replacement might make them contenders as it gives them an element they were sorely missing.

 362.

 363.

 364.

 365. Ihsan is coming off a bye week and playing the high flying Emaan is going to be a struggle. The first 5 minutes are going to be critical as Ihsan will have to find a way to weather the storm.

 366.

 367.

 368.

 369. Player to Watch: Hassan Badreddine's debut will certainly draw attention. He likely has the best wrist/snap shot in Tier-1 and can be deadly if left unattended.

 370.

 371.

 372.

 373. Who's Hot: Sajjid Ayubi has a league leading 5 goals this season and will need to be watched closely by his opposition.

 374.

 375.

 376.

 377. Sabr vs. Taqwa

 378.

 379. 11PM

 380.

 381.

 382.

 383. For a team that loaded up on a tremendous amount of talent, Taqwa likely didn't envision themselves at the bottom of the standings after 5 games. And here they face their bitter rivals Sabr, who hold a game in hand on them. Not to get ahead of myself, but if Sabr wins, Taqwa will be in a dogfight just to make the playoffs.

 384.

 385.

 386.

 387. Taqwa kept putting up the goals against Emaan last week but it never seemed enough. Taqwa might need to reach the realization that no matter who their goalie is, there is no substitute for good team defense.

 388.

 389.

 390.

 391. Meanwhile, Sabr's last game was hardly a masterpiece. They were thoroughly outplayed and outpossessed by Emaan and yet pulled out the win on the back of Imran Patel who once again registered a huge goal. In my opinion, this has been Patel's most dominant performance in I-Slam Hockey - and that's saying a lot. His contributions can't be fully appreciated looking at the stats sheet, but he's been impactful in every game and Taqwa will certainly need to stay close to him.

 392.

 393.

 394.

 395. Taqwa has also lost center Camran Baig to a wrist injury and have replaced him with youngster Dani Umar.

 396.

 397.

 398.

 399. Player to Watch: I wouldn't say Ibad Khan has played badly, but he also hasn't stolen a game yet. I'm interested to see his performance in this critical match.

 400.

 401.

 402.

 403. Who's Hot: Sami Choudhry is fresh off a 4 point performance and has 8 on the season already (tied for league lead).

 404.

 405.

 407.

 408. Emaan vs. Taqwa

 409.

 410.

 411.

 412. 11PM

 413.

 414.

 415.

 416.

 417.

 418.

 419. We've reached what I call the Tier-1 split, where two teams sit out with a bye week. It might seem inconsequential but it always skews the standings where teams end up ahead on points but with fewer games in hand.

 420.

 421.

 422.

 423. And so the intensity turns up a notch. Taqwa appeared to be walking away with a win last week, or at least a tie, only to see it dissipate with 40 seconds left after a point shot from Dilawar Alvi handed them a 4-3 loss.

 424.

 425.

 426.

 427. Emaan completely outplayed, out-shot and out-chanced Sabr only to end up on a losing end of a 2-1 game. The inability to convert on chances and perhaps a weak goal surrendered by their goaltender was all the difference in the match

 428.

 429.

 430.

 431. This game might be just what Emaan needs to get on track. Taqwa has a terrible time keeping up with Emaan's fast paced and crash and bang style of hockey. Taqwa's skilled players prefer to slow the game down and to create their high skill opportunities.

 432.

 433.

 434.

 435. But Taqwa, who clearly have done the most to up the talent on their club, have swung a late Thursday night trade to move veteran Junaid Mohammad for Ihsan speedster Erfan Bhanapatel. Their talent pools keeps building but eventually Taqwa will need to show what's on paper on the floor.

 436.

 437.

 438.

 439. Player to Watch: Hisham Ali has stood out on Emaan as one of the few guys converting on his offensive chances. He'll need to keep scoring until the other shooters on his squad decide to join him.

 440.

 441.

 442.

 443. Who's Hot: Shaukat Khan has points in all his games and 6 altogether this season.

 450. Both teams suffered their first loss of the season prior
 451. to the Eid break, after allowing a brief chance to take sole leadership of
 452. first place slip through their fingers.

 453.

 454.

 455.

 457. Both teams are also hoping for a full lineup for the first time this season.
 458. For Taqwa, they hope to have all of Osman
 459. Buttar, Camran Baig and the newly acquired Nomi Chaudhry all in the lineup at the same time. Meanwhile, Ihsan
 460. is hoping to finally see Usama Mahmood’s
 461. debut this season. Rumours were abound that Mahmood held a retirement
 462. celebration a couple of weeks ago but close friend and co-GM Sajjid Ayubi
 463. insisted that was not the case. “I’d kill him if he walked away from the game
 464. right now” Ayubi is reported to have said. Mahmood can certainly be a
 465. difference maker, so his presence would be a huge boost for the team.

 466.

 467.

 468.

 469. Player
 470. to Watch: Yusuf Ingar
 471. was a solid contributor for Taqwa last season but he has yet to make his
 472. presence felt with Ihsan. He needs to make an impact, and soon, or his stock
 473. might start falling around the league.

 474.

 475.

 476.

 477. Who’s
 478. Hot:
 479. Shaukat Khan and Sajjid Ayubi are tied at the top of the
 480. league with 5 points and have both been carrying the mail for their respective
 481. teams.

 482.

 483.

 484.

 485. Emaan
 486. vs Sabr

 487.

 488. 11PM

 489.

 490.

 491.

 492. I think we can call this Friday “even Steven”. Firstly,
 493. all the teams are tied in points in the standings. Secondly, all the teams
 494. playing this Friday have tied each other in their previous matchups. Emaan and
 495. Sabr played to a tie the last time they played and so did Ihsan and Taqwa.

 496.

 497.

 498.

 499. So everything is as tied up as it could be.

 500.

 501.

 502.

 503. Based on my expert scouting, I’d say the following were
 504. true from the previous Sabr-Emaan showdown:

 505.

 506.

 507.

 508.
 Sabr
 509. had a lot of trouble with Emaan’s speed through the neutral zone. Speed is what
 510. breaks the trap and Sabr’s system couldn’t withstand Emaan’s runners.

 511.
Emaan
 512. ran out of gas near the end of the game and Sabr took over.

 513.

 514.

 515. Emaan also left a number of quality chances on the table,
 516. though this seems to be a theme in all of their games. They create many chances
 517. but have far too much trouble in the finishing department. If they start
 518. finishing, they’ll keep winning.

 519.

 520.

 521.

 522. Player to Watch: Umair
 523. Awan has 2 goals already this season but could have had 5. He’s got the
 524. shot of a sniper and can really lift this team up.

 525.
526.

 527.

 528.

 529. Who’s Hot: Imran Patel’s
 530. goal last week was all kinds of nasty. Patel embarrassed the Ihsan defender and
 531. goaltender as he undressed them both and powered towards the net. You can’t
 532. ignore that kind of talent.

 534. Emaan vs Taqwa

 535.

 536. 10PM

 537.

 538. Emaan will face the monster they helped create due to the major trade the two teams consummated during the draft. By lending Taqwa the 2nd overall pick, Emaan allowed the Black Squad to grab Farooq Khan and Ibad Khan to their already star arsenal.
539.

 540. Last year, Emaan found a good deal of success against Taqwa. Taqwa, a team that loves to create high-level skill plays, can get extremely frustrated with Emaan's high-intensity and relentless fore-check game.
541.

 542. They'll need to hope it works again this year as Emaan tries to register their first win.
543.

 544. Player To Watch: Razi Ahmed is emerging as a top defender who is extremely dangerous on the rush. He scored a great short-handed goal last week...look for him to build on that.
545.

 546. Who's Hot: Shaukat Khan has 4 points in the first two game and only really played half of the last game. He turned the game on it's head the moment he arrived.
547.

 548.
549.

 550. Sabr vs Ihsan

 551.

 552. 11PM

 553.

 554.

 555.

 556. The defending champions certainly didn't expect this coming into this season: Searching for their first win of the season in Week 3. Enter Ihsan, a team that Sabr has shown thinly veiled enmity towards.

 557.

 558.

 559.

 560. After losing their last game of the season last year to Emaan, Sabr GM Yousuf Sowdagar noted his pleasure that the loss contributed to Ihsan's elimination from the playoffs. There's no love lost between these two teams and expect a battle up and down the floor.

 561.

 562.

 563.

 564. One subtext for this game: Sabr felt extremely paranoid that Ihsan would draft goaltender Kaz Akbar and also felt that Akbar was far superior player to Ali Khwaja, so much so that they passed on some high-skill forwards to draft Akbar 4th overall. Expect Khwaja to try to prove his naysayers wrong.

 565.

 566.

 567.

 568. Player to Watch: Mustafa Alam is another player who feels slighted with the Sabr brass, after being traded from the squad last season. Expect him to bring a high level of energy to the match.

 569.

 570.

 571.

 572. Who's Hot: Omar Sabri's 4 assists (all primary) in his first 2 games is tough to ignore.

 574. Taqwa V Ihsan - 8PM

 575.

 576. Last week's winners will come together for an early chance to claim sole spot of the top spot in the standings for the season. Surprisingly, despite the radical turnover on both teams, the teams ultimately remained loyal to the style of hockey they played last season.
577.

 578. Taqwa remains a high-octane offensive force with a large number of offensively threatening players with little interest in defense. However, with Ibad Khan in goal, that hardly seems a pressing issue any longer.
579.

 580. Ihsan remained a gritty defense-first team which prefers a grinding style of hockey. With a shortened bench last week, it looked like Ihsan ran out of gas at some point and spent the rest of the game stuck in their own zone. Still, the team bent and didn't break as they continued to grind and battle until the clock ran out.
581.

 582. Due to week one absenses, a few players will look to make their debut this week. This include, Usama Mahmood and Yusuf Ingar from Ihsan as well as Safi Ahmed and Muhammad Bilal from Taqwa.
583.

 584. Player To Watch: Omar Husain has some silky, smooth hands. While the youngster will likely take time to fully adapt to Tier-1 hockey, he showed flashes of brilliance in week one.
585.

 588. Emaan V Sabr - 10PM

 589.

 590.

 591.

 592. Both teams came out of the losing end last week and will be highly motivated to shake off last Friday's disappointment.

 593.

 594.

 595.

 596. Emaan's defeat came in a game which was far closer than the score indicated. We all hate hockey cliche's about "the bounces" but a ball literally bounced on the goal-line for Emaan was likely in the net but was quickly batted out before a referee could confirm a goal. Add that to hitting the post and running into a hot goaltender in general, Emaan certainly believes that the game could have turned their way if they had gotten the right bounces.

 597.

 598.

 599.

 600. Sabr seemed stunned out of the gate against Taqwa but soon after began competing at a higher level. Unfortunately, that was only after surrendering some game deciding goals. Otherwise the team did seem out of sync on the power-play and in other situations. Players like Shuaib Hussain will need to find ways to ingrain himself with the team instead going their own way on the floor.

 601.

 602.

 603.

 604. Player To Watch: Haseeb Syed is nothing short of a handful for his opponents with his unrelenting aggressiveness on the floor. He can single-handedly lift his team with a great play or sink them with a bad penalty. In either case, he's a game-changer.

 606.
Re-match already. The two teams that endured an epic battle in the finals in which Sabr overcame 3-0 and 4-1 deficit's to win the championship in sudden death fashion. None months later and things have changed. Farooq Khan, who registered a hat-trick in that fateful game for Sabr, is now property of Taqwa via the draft. Taqwa's aggressiveness on draft day also allowed them to land star goaltender Ibad Khan. These two moves represent massive upgrades for Taqwa, despite losing some offensive depth in Ali Wadee and Yusuf Ingar to Ihsan. Sabr on the other hand has largely maintained their roster and is looking to repeat their success with a similar recipe of implementing hockey systems that give them neutral zone dominance and an advantage in possession.
607.
608.
Player to Watch: The player who drew the ire and wrath of Taqwa last season, Luqman Arshad, is now donning the Black jersey himself. Awkward. We aren't expecting him to throw up a bunch of goals, but he'll definitely be a player to watch!

609.
Ihsan vs Emaan
610.
There's some bad blood here as Emaan's brass believe that Ihsan's group coerced Omar Sabri to drop into the draft using some less than fair tactics. Emaan ferociously contested Ihsan at the draft and will do the same on the floor. These teams are counter opposite of each other. Emaan uses the depth on their bench and tries to wear down opponents with their relentless speed and hustle. Ihsan throws playing time at their star players, and this year they have more than a few stars to throw at the opponents. Omar Sabri, Sajjid Ayubi, Usama Mahmood and Tariq Ayubi are a formidable group. Throw in Dilawar Alvi, Omar Husain, and Ali Wadee and there’s some depth to back that up.
611.
612. Player to Watch: We'll use two players for this one; Zayd Agjee and Ali Khwaja. The fates of both teams will likely lay with both goaltenders and this will be the first chance to see what they'll bring this season.
