There are two ways to charge — in your car's cigarette lighter or in any standard outlet — and there are two ports so you can charge two USB devices at the same time. Your charging options are twice as nice! Two USB ports are located on the top of the charger. A 2.1A port is available to power all generations of iPad. A second 1.0A port will power standard USB devices, including smartphones, cameras and MP3 players. You can charge two devices at the same time, making this charger a time-saving companion for trips, at the office, or right at home. A blue light will let you know when your device is charging. And it's not just time-saving: it's space-saving. The car charger and plug fold in to make a small square for transport and storage. Store it in the glove box or stash it in your purse, luggage, laptop bag, or even your pocket. The charger's ready to go whenever and wherever you need it.

 27.

As electric cars push their way into the mainstream, carmakers have begun planting the necessary charging stations around the United States in an attempt to make using the battery-powered cars as easy as possible. Most of these, like Tesla's Supercharger network and VW's upcoming "Electrify America" plan, center around placing these chargers on heavily-traveled thoroughfares. One German luxury car maker, however, is going off the beaten path with its EV infrastructure installations. On Wednesday, BMW announced plans to install as many as 100 electric car charging stations across America's network of national parks. The arrangement is part of a partnership between the Bavarian automaker, the National Park Service, the National Park Foundation, and the Department of Energy. The first of BMW's new EV chargers was revealed alongside the announcement, at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park—the site of Edison's laboratory and home—in West Orange, New Jersey. (We're sure the fact that it's roughly half an hour's drive from BMW's American headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., is entirely coincidental.) The company will consider factors such as proximity to major EV markets and the distance from available existing chargers, among other factors, when trying to decide which national icons are worthy of BMW-sourced chargers. “Electric vehicles have come a long way since Thomas Edison plugged his first electric car into a charging station in his own garage, " acting National Park Service Director Michael Reynolds said. (The famed inventor dallied with electric cars for decades in the early days of automobiles.) "Today’s EVs are clean, quiet, energy efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions which help to reduce air pollution in parks and local communities. That benefits the visitor experience and helps us preserve parks for future generations to enjoy.” The National Park Service is responsible for the custodianship of 417 physical properties around the United States. 59 of those are considered "national parks" under the traditional definition, distinguished by factors such as unusual biospheres or natural beauty; these include well-known properties like Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Everglades. The other 358 sites include national monuments (such as the Statue of Liberty), battlefields (such as Gettysburg), and other places of historic interest, like Edison's home.

 54.

Sheer raw power. Those are the words that best describe Samuel Hubinette’s new Dodge Charger, built by MOPAR and SRT (Street and Racing Technologies). Weight After two successful seasons with a Dodge Viper, the two-time Formula D champion returns in 2007 with this radical new Charger to achieve his third championship title in the series. But as great as the car looks sideways, getting it prepared for it was no easy task. The first issue the MOPAR research and development team found was the weight. The Viper, although with a V-10 motor, it was still considerably lighter than the Charger by being a sports car mostly consisting of carbon fiber. Led by Shaun Carlson, the MOPAR technicians stripped the car down to bare metal and began by replacing most body panels with carbon fiber and fiberglass replacements. The windows have been replaced with lexan. To show Carlson’s determination to shed pounds, the first prototype was fit with huge wheels and brakes, along with crazy fenders and a wing. The finished product had none of that. It had brakes big enough to get the job done, the wheels were changed with lighter replacements, and the massive brakes were downsized to something considered less-than complete overkill. Believe it or not, the car weighs around 3300lbs, over 900lbs lighter than stock. Suspension/Brakes By now it sounds like you have seen leftover cars at the junkyard with more parts than Hubinette’s Charger, but all that was left is top of the line, straight out of the shelves from MOPAR’s best. The suspension has been completely revamped with coilovers on all four corners, a custom design by powerhouse KW. These coilovers are held by four 19x10-inch Racing Hart light-weight wheels that are wrapped with tires as big as 295/35/19s in the back. Those massive tires provide for enough contact patch with the floor to yield massive amounts of smoke, which is always a crowd pleaser. The brakes are Brembo’s finest, providing all the stopping power the Charger could need. But you would not need the top of the line Brembo brakes unless you had something so massive residing under the hood. Performance And "massive" it is. MOPAR has introduced the Charger with an adaptation of their biggest motor currently available: a 392 (cubic inch) HEMI crate engine. The engine has been built by Gary Stanton, who apparently found ways to even better the motor with a higher compression, a higher redline and add-ons. Technicians claim that the motor puts out 650hp and that the motor runs on 104 octane gas only. Impressive numbers for a naturally aspirated motor. However, recent sources have shown pictures of the Dodge Charger carrying a turbocharged motor. There has been no official word yet of any modification of the kind, but the pictures are there to prove the change. The car’s debut occurred in December of 2006 during the D1 Grand Prix championship at Irwindale, CA where Samuel Hubinette managed to qualify for Top 16 in his brand new Charger. In 2007, Hubinette managed to achieve his first victory in Formula D in West Virginia, at Summit Point, proving that the new (and possibly already improved) Dodge Charger is up to the task of providing the crazy swede with his third Formula D championship victory.

 63.

Despite the environmental and economical pressures placed upon automakers these days, there are a few stubborn engineers out there (mostly at General Motors) who have stuck to their principles and have kept superchargers in the fold of modern forced-induction. Quickly following high-powered naturally-aspirated engines, it seems that the era of the supercharger is soon to come to a close, with these cars doing their best to preserve the whining, belt-driven compressors. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat A lunchbreak top trumps dream, it seems as if Dodge built the Hellcat just to pulverise the rest of the muscle car community with its stratospheric list of numbers. Starting at just over $60, 000 and producing 697bhp, the SRT leviathan might just be the greatest bang-for-your-buck car of all time. As if 6.2-litres of displacement wasn’t enough, Dodge added a supercharger into the mix, making it the most powerful stock muscle car ever produced. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 The Z06 has developed into one of the most well respected sports cars on sale today, combining seriously aggressive design with bone-shattering performance. Starting at around , 000, the hardcore Corvette is the heartthrob of the American car community, only being surpassed in performance by the track-focussed Viper ACR. Sporting a – you’ve guessed it – 6.2-litre supercharged V8, the Z06 has been timed at three seconds to 60mph thanks to its 650bhp output. Although they are prone to the occasional overheating incident due to a poorly-designed cooling system, Chevy has used its recent experience on track with the C7R racecar to manufacture a blisteringly capable road car that has sold extremely well in the US. It is possible to get one exported over to Europe, but it will take some serious hustling and a whole tonne of paperwork. But if superchargers are your jam, it may be the worth the hassle. Jaguar F-Type Jaguar has been a stalwart of the supercharger for over 20 years, connecting root superchargers to its V8s (and one time a straight-six) since the 90s. The company’s latest sports car still comes with a supercharger in a world where nearly every other performance car has submitted to turbocharging, with the base F-Type using a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 outputting 335bhp. The range tops out with the SVR which throws out 567bhp from its 5.0-litre supercharged V8, but it doesn’t look like Jaguar will be producing any more root-based powertrains in the near future. Cadillac CTS-V Released in the early 2000s when models like the enormous Escalade were a detriment to Caddy being taken seriously as a performance car maker, the CTS-V has grown into a sedan that can take on the might of Europe’s performance saloons. Using the same LT4 6.2-litre V8 as the Corvette Z06, the latest CTS-V produces 640bhp which is transferred through an 8-speed transmission to the rear wheels. Topping out at 200mph and managing the sprint to 60mph in just 3.7 seconds, the CTS-V has become a genuine contender in the super saloon sector. With the smaller ATS-V using a twin turbocharger setup on its 3.6-litre V6, the next CTS-V may move away from supercharging, and that’s a big shame. Ariel Atom This footage shows what a supercharger is capable of when slapped on the Atom. Video via YouTube Channel TwinTurbo250 Productions As if 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds wasn’t quick enough from the 2.0-litre N/A Honda engine it uses, Ariel also fits a supercharger to its track-based hardcore weapon, upping its output to 310bhp. Destroying just about any supercar on the track due to a killer power-to-weight ratio, the Atom is capable of kicking some serious ass. This entry may be a little different to the others here since the supercharger is effectively modification that you need to tick as an option on top of the 245bhp base model, the Atom is synonymous with the shriek of a spooling supercharger. Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Yep, it’s another LT4 V8-powered machine, in the form of the Camaro ZL1 and its monstrous 650bhp and 650lb ft of torque. That power is sent to the rear (obviously) via either a 10-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual. More powerful than the Shelby Mustang GT350 and much cheaper than numerous European rivals, the ZL1 is another performance bargain that has pushed the scourge of turbocharging aside…for now. The Range Rover Sport SVR will probably be another casualty of turbocharging, currently using a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 With supercharging generally being isolated to larger capacity engines, it probably won’t be long until turbocharging takes over for good. Even though Audi is doing its best to engineer an electric supercharger to act like an extremely powerful fan blower, the rise of electric powertrains in general will probably begin to replace forced induction as an entity.

 72.

Frequently replacing golf cart batteries can become rather expensive and time consuming. Many cart owners also find it frustrating when their batteries need to be charged again after a short time. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to make them last longer. It's particularly important to maintain and charge your batteries properly. Chargers Overcharging your golf cart batteries may damage them. It is best to use an automatic charger that turns itself off when a battery is fully charged. Some older models lack this important feature. If you must use a manual charger, don't forget to turn it off. You can set an alarm clock or timer to remind you when the battery is ready. If possible, charge your batteries every day that you use an electric golf cart. Do not drive the vehicle until the battery dies; lead-acid batteries won't last as long if you completely discharge them. It is also advantageous to begin charging a golf cart battery when there's enough time to fully charge it before your next trip. To make your batteries last even longer, consider using a Dual Pro charger . This sophisticated, dependable charging system is completely automated. Unlike most units, it precisely delivers the maximum charge every time. This increases golf cart battery life by at least one-fifth. You won't have to charge or replace the batteries as often. Maintenance Remember to clean your golf cart batteries and check the water level each month. It's vital to prevent damage by removing corrosion from the battery terminals. When watering batteries, use distilled water and pay attention to the water level markings. You can automate this process by using a battery watering system. Operation If you leave it on for a long period of time, any light bulb or electronic device can harm your golf cart battery by fully discharging it. You may have to jump-start a gas-powered cart if this happens. Remember to switch off the lights, radio and other accessories when you finish using them. Always remove the key before leaving your golf cart. Driving techniques also affect battery life on electric golf carts. To get the most out of your batteries, avoid steep hills and don't bring unnecessary items. Your passengers should not exceed the vehicle's recommended weight capacity. If you need to move the cart a long distance, consider using a truck or utility trailer to carry it. Replacement If you follow all of these tips, your golf cart battery should last a minimum of five years. You will also gain the ability to travel longer distances between charges. When your cart's battery stops working, be sure to recycle it and purchase a quality replacement. Units with high amp capacities usually last longer.

 90.

The Sunforce Trickle Charger provides an ideal way to maintain and charge 12-volt batteries for your car, boat and SUV. This solar power system is weatherproof, meaning you can leave it outside charging even in the rain. It also offers overcharge protection, pre-drilled holes for installation and battery clamps. The solar power kit is a small square that weighs about 3 pounds. It has a height of 17 inches and a width of around 13 inches. This means that you can install it right on your dashboard or put it on the roof of your boat. The portable solar generator comes with four stainless steel screws. You can connect the power with either alligator clips or the 12-volt lighter socket. You can even use an external attachment and use the lighter socket to charge your cellphone or other electronic devices. Sunforce Solar Battery Trickle Charger 50022 Visit Site The Solar Batter Trickle Charger has amorphous solar panels, so they don’t store power like other portable solar power systems. Instead, they convert sunlight into an electric current that is constantly flowing. It’s designed to maintain an existing battery charge and not to fully recharge the battery. So, instead of draining the car or boat battery while you are running lights or charging other devices, the trickle charger helps maintain a full charge and provides you peace of mind. This isn’t the best solar power system for charging your electronics. It isn’t meant to work alone and requires a connection to your battery to really get a benefit from the device. The good news is that there aren’t a lot of connections to worry about or storage devices to connect to the Sunforce Trickle Charger. Once it’s installed and attached to the battery, it will not adversely affect its operation. You should still remove it and store it when the vehicle is in motion. The Sunforce Solar Battery has a specific application. You can use it with a vehicle that has its own battery and maintain the charge on that battery. It’s not like other portable devices that you can place in your backpack or keep around the house. Overall, this is a good portable solar option for those who take their vehicles to the outdoors. 99.

After my previous teardown of an MC34063 based cigarette lighter port USB power supply showed it to be inadequate I still needed a USB supply. I thought I would buy another one of these devices but this time a branded one that cost more than one pound. I chose what was claimed to be the Griffin PowerJolt Dual Universal Micro. It is specified as having 2A output (1A per port). Since I wrote this article, several people have pointed out that they think I got a fake. I suppose a good quality one would cost more that the £2, including postage, which I paid on ebay. A bad power supply can destroy expensive equipment so this is a case where “don’t turn it on, take it apart” is very good advice. My first impressions were the bad soldering. The joints are mottled and balled up. Then I noticed an odd lump of solder that had been trimmed with side cutters. This was on the end of a wire from the inductor (a toroid) and was not secured to anything. A thin piece of solder extended to one pin of the IC, and if the wire was pressed against the board this may have made contact. Looking at the PCB, the solder mask goes right up to the hole for this wire. I suspect a faulty PCB design and this is some bodge that might make it work sometimes if it doesn’t come loose. The IC is marked O&P 1510 2B23. I can’t find it by googling. The capacitors are tiny. I expect the filtering would be bad. There is no fuse. Griffin says it has “SmartFuse circuit-breaker protection”, so I was expecting a separate protection device, such as a polyswitch, which is not there. I was going to test the output voltage, current and ripple, but the thing won’t even work without me fixing it first, so I’m probably not going to bother.
