<content:encoded><![CDATA[The eldest sister of the late Iniubong Umoren, Ifiok Ephraim Umoren, who was the principal witness in the prosecution of the now convicted Uduak Akpan has called for the cessation of what she described as false allegations that her sister was murdered in April 2021 for organ harvesting.
She made the remark during a press briefing in Uyo, with both the prosecuting and defense lawyers presents of the 2021 murder case.
The press briefing was convened in response to recent claims allegedly made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in a viral audio-visual conversation with one US-based activist Dr. Sandra C. Duru, in which she alleged that Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was involved in harvesting Iniubong’s organs to save his wife.
Ifiok described the allegation as “a hurtful reminder, and traumatic to the bereaved family” and an “outrageous falsehood, reiterating that she personally witnessed the autopsy report, during which all internal organs were confirmed intact.
Recall that Iniubong Umoren, a 26-year-old Philosophy graduate of the University of Uyo, was murdered on April 29, 2021, by UduakAbasi Frank Akpan under the guise of a job interview. Akpan, who was later convicted for rape and murder, was sentenced to death by the Akwa Ibom State High Court on August 4, 2022.

Flanked by the Akwa Ibom Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Friday Johnson Itim, and Mr. Samuel Abdullah of the Legal Aid Council, who were both prosecuting and defense attorneys respectively during the case, Ifiok expressed disbelief and emotional distress over the allegation. “How can someone claim that my sister’s organs were harvested when I was right there during the autopsy?” she queried. “This accusation is not only false but dishonours the memory of my sister and retraumatizes our family.”
She narrated how her sister had informed her of a job interview before her disappearance and how she played a critical role in identifying the suspect and aiding police investigations. “After her death, the police took the body for autopsy at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. I was present. No organ was missing,” she said.
Supporting her statement, Mr. Itim described the crime as a solitary act committed by UduakAbasi, who attacked Iniubong after she refused to have unprotected sex. “He killed her in anger, buried her in a shallow grave, and fled. His arrest was facilitated by his family and the local government chairman,” Itim said.
The pathologist, Dr. Emeka Nwafor, who conducted the postmortem, also testified under oath in court in 2021 that while the body showed signs of decomposition and trauma, there was no evidence of organ removal.
Mr. Abdullah added that the allegation of organ harvesting had no basis in court proceedings. “Neither prosecution nor defense ever mentioned Senator Akpabio in connection with the case. The certified autopsy report is publicly accessible and confirms that all internal organs were intact.”

<content:encoded><![CDATA[The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 11th edition held in Lagos, Nigeria was really glamourous. 
This year’s event brought together the best of African film and television under one roof. It was a night filled with excitement, emotion, and unforgettable moments, as actors, filmmakers, and creatives from across the continent were honored for their incredible work.
One of the big highlights of the night was Lisabi: The Uprising, which not only won Best Indigenous Language (West Africa) but also took home awards for Best Art Direction and Best Make-Up. The powerful storytelling and detailed production design clearly left a strong impression on both the judges and the audience.

In the short film category, Brukaci by Jide Jblaze Oyegbile earned the Best Short Film award, while ZI M UZO by Nnodim Chigozie took the award for Best Indigenous (M-Net Original). Nigerian Idol was named Best Unscripted M-Net Original, continuing to show its impact on the entertainment industry.
My Fairytale Wedding, produced by Chinenye Nworah and Taiwo Adebayo, was crowned Best Scripted M-Net Original, and Everything Light Touches from West Africa won Best Multichoice Talent Factory Project. It was also a proud moment for Mai Shay Chigozie, which won in its category, further showcasing the diversity of storytelling across the region.
Femi Adebayo shone brightly as he took home the Best Lead Actor award for his role in Seven Doors, while Mercy Aigbe was named Best Supporting Actress for Farmer’s Bride. Gabriel Afolayan also picked up the Best Supporting Actor award for Clarence Peters’ Inside Life, which later won Best Series (Scripted) as well.
In other categories, Queen of Lagos won Best Cinematography, Inkabi took Best Editing, and Seven Doors won again for Best Score/Music. The award for Best Sound/Sound Design was shared by Olaosebikan Okonrende, and Christmas in Lagos stood out with Best Costume Design.
Writing was also celebrated, with Untying Kantai by Abel Mutua Musyoka winning Best Writing (TV Series), and Freedom Way by Blessing Uzzi winning both Best Writer (Movie) and the prestigious Best Movie award.
In the documentary space, Dundun by Ifeoluwa Fatogun and Ebi Atawodi was honored as Best Documentary, while Wa Milele? (Forever?) by Kefa Igilo and Jerryson Onasaa won Best Unscripted Series.
Director Awam Amkpa received praise for his work on The Man Died, winning Best Director, while the Trailblazer Award went to Kayode Kasum, a young filmmaker making waves in the industry. The Industry Merit Award was presented to two legends: Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh, in recognition of their lifelong contributions to African film and television.
Finally, Iyo Prosper Adokiye was named Best Digital Content Creator, showing how new media continues to play a huge role in storytelling today.
AMVCA 11 was more than just an award show, it was a celebration of Africa’s talent, creativity, and passion for storytelling. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Earlier today, popular social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) shared a heartfelt video, thanking everyone who stood by him during his recent ordeal. 
In the emotional clip, he expressed deep appreciation to those who lent their voices for him online, whether through videos, photos, hashtags, or simple posts. 
He admitted that he wasn’t expecting such overwhelming support, and seeing the love and solidarity brought him close to tears. According to VDM, “Lending a voice to me is like lending a voice to the future.” He emphasized that speaking out on his behalf was not just about him, but about standing against injustice everywhere.
VDM also spoke about an earlier video he had made, where he expressed anger toward the EFCC. He admitted that while people were expecting an appreciation message from him, his frustration at what the EFCC allegedly did to his account pushed him to speak out strongly. He warned the public and authorities not to spread any false information linking him to money laundering, stating clearly that he would fight any attempt to misrepresent him.
As the video continued, VDM began to name and thank individuals and groups who supported him. He started with his dedicated team of lawyers who have stood by him through countless legal challenges. He appreciated Tunde Ednut for always using his platform to speak up for the people. He gave special thanks to Obi Cubana and Uncle Femi Falana (SAN), acknowledging Falana’s consistent stand for justice. VDM also thanked Dkokopee, his brother, and Davido, whom he credited for being a strong and unexpected ally.
He went on to mention P-Square, saying he was shocked to see their support because he didn’t expect it. He also gave a nod to Seun Kuti, actors from Nollywood, and his close circle of friends, the Durumi boys, his guys from Abuja, and his crew from Delta, Kaduna, Kogi, Adamawa, and Borno. VDM didn’t forget influencers on Facebook, fans on YouTube, and people from other countries who joined in the call for his release.
With every word, VDM’s message was clear, he felt seen, supported, and inspired. For him, this moment was more than personal. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Following the widespread publicity and criticism of the inclusion of the name of Barr. Etetim Onuk, former Chairman of Itu Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State Government’s empowerment list, the former Council helmsman has spoken out. 
In a press statement released to the media Barr. Onuk denied permitting the inclusion of his name in the purported empowerment scheme for farmers, adding that although he is a farmer, he knows nothing about the inclusion of his name as a beneficiary of the grant, adding that the category of the grant he was so included remains too low for him and meant for the less privileged. 
The press release reads:
𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗥𝘁. 𝗛𝗼𝗻. (𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿.) 𝗘𝘁𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺 𝗢𝗻𝘂𝗸’𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
I, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Etetim Onuk, former Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, wish to address the recent allegations that I lobbied to be included in the empowerment list/grant meant for the less privileged under Governor Umo Eno’s initiative in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency which my name erroneously appeared on the programme.
I categorically distance myself from these allegations as falsely spread across the social media because it doesn’t represent my character and person, but it’s the handiwork of mischief makers who believe in pulling down one another for selfish gain and interest.

As a public figure, I have always been committed to serving the people with integrity and transparency. The notion that I would seek personal gain from a program designed to benefit the less privileged is not only baseless but also malicious and demeaning.
Also, I am the Managing Director of Eseh Farms & Feeds Limited; a company that is fully involved in large-scale Agro and Livestocks based farming. l am a full member of the Association of Large Scale Farmers in the State. I have never at any time applied for or solicited for the grant of such assistance from the State Arise Entrepreneurial Portals, or at all.
I can recall vividly that some months ago; I received a call from one Enobong from the Agric ARISE team that inquired about my farm in ltu, and sought for permission to visit the farms for inspection which l readily obliged. Thereafter, the team visited one of my farms located at lkot Akpan ltam, ltu Local Government Area.
I did not have any idea, and l was not told that l would be included as one of the beneficiaries in the farmers’ grants. I was utterly and roundly surprised when I saw my name on the list as one of the beneficiaries under the ARISE Farmers category.
On citing my name on the list, I reached out to the appropriate authorities to express my disappointment and readily asked that my name be immediately deleted from the list because even as a farmer, the purported grant is way too low and not the category my farm should belong to, because there are many young farmers in Itu that the grant would help to boost their businesses than myself.
I am always in support of initiatives aimed at empowering the downtrodden and I believe that Governor Umo Eno’s empowerment program in the just concluded Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency Town-Square meeting was administered fairly and transparently, without favoritism or nepotism, in which relevant authorities ensured that the selection process for the empowerment was credible and unbiased.
I am aware the media has gone agog with different narratives while some are purely invectives, but let me reiterate here that I’m a politician with a conscience, and as such wouldn’t intentionally usurp what is/was meant for the less privileged.
I appeal to the general public to disregard the allegations of my empowerment of Five Hundred Thousand Naira and also urge the media to verify information before publishing and to avoid spreading unfounded allegations that could tarnish the reputation of individuals.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has sparked controversy by suggesting that Nigeria could benefit from a one-party system. 
Ganduje made the remarks after leading a delegation of three senators from Kebbi state to meet with President Bola Tinubu.
The three senators, Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki, had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Ganduje cited China as an example of a successful one-party state, saying, “If a one-party state is a wish and blessing to Nigeria… a one-party state is not by force. One party’s state is by negotiation, and it is by other political parties seeing the effect of the positive governance of our party.”
Ganduje added, “If they decide to come to our party willingly, I think there is nothing wrong with that. You know they say too many cooks spoil the soup — too many political parties spoil governance.” He emphasized that the APC’s positive governance could attract more politicians to the party, potentially leading to a one-party system.
While Ganduje claimed that the APC is not actively working towards a one-party system, he suggested that if Nigerians desire it, the party would not oppose it. In what he describes as a gesture of lifelong appreciation, Kamo referred to Funke Akindele as his “god mother,” acknowledging her significant role in his personal and professional life.
The actor, known for his comedic roles and close relationship with Akindele, shared that this decision was more than symbolic, it was a tribute to someone who had stood by his family through a significant chapter.
Earlier, the Actor had taken to social media to publicly thank Funke Akindele for her overwhelming support during his wife “Esther’s” pregnancy. He revealed that the Jenifa’s Diary star had not only offered to sponsor his wife’s childbirth in America but also took full responsibility for the child’s naming ceremony. He praised her for being a pillar of strength and generosity, calling her “a true mother and a rare gem” whose actions had left his family forever indebted.
The couple announced the birth of their daughter with fans and colleagues pouring in their congratulations. When it came time to choose names for their bundle of joy, the couple opted for a blend of cultural significance and personal sentiment. Among the names given was “Funke,” in honor of the woman they credit with guiding and supporting them like family. The name, which means “to give me someone to care for” in Yoruba, felt perfectly fitting given the circumstances.
Kamo and Esther also gave their daughter a traditional Yoruba name that reflects their faith and gratitude , “Ifedolapo,” meaning “love has become wealth.” The naming ceremony, which was reportedly funded by Akindele herself, was a vibrant celebration of love, friendship, and loyalty. <content:encoded><![CDATA[The long-running legal battle of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has taken a dramatic new turn following explosive testimony from a Department of State Services (DSS) operative.
In a session on Thursday, May 8, 2025,at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the DSS witness alleged that a broadcast by Kanu incited the killing of former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, in 2021. Gulak, a prominent political figure from the north, was assassinated in Imo State in what initially appeared to be a politically motivated attack.
According to the DSS operative, Kanu’s broadcasts over the controversial Radio Biafra played a key role in fueling separatist sentiments and violence in the southeastern region. The witness claimed Kanu not only founded IPOB but also admitted to establishing its paramilitary wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and running the unlicensed radio station used to spread the group’s messages.
This testimony marks a potential turning point in the case, which has seen numerous adjournments and legal maneuvers since Kanu’s re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria in 2021.
However, the defense team quickly countered, challenging the admissibility of the video evidence linking Kanu’s speech to the violence. Kanu’s lead counsel argued that due process was not followed in obtaining and presenting the recordings, raising concerns about their authenticity and chain of custody.
The presiding judge, after hearing arguments from both sides, adjourned the case to allow further deliberations and possible examination of the evidence’s legality. The ruling on whether the video will be admitted could significantly influence the trajectory of the trial.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[The Unity Government promoted by The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno between the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state and the All Progressive Congress, APC nee other political parties seems to be graduating to a ‘handshake beyond the elbow’ as APC stalwarts in the state begin to poke their PDP counterparts on the face.
This development was very glaring at the town square meeting organized by Akwa Ibom State Government for Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency held yesterday in Itu Local Government Headquarters.
At the meeting, it was evident as it has become the culture in recent government events, that stalwarts of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP are unable to chant the toga of their political party, sometimes even the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state, is unable to chant the party’s name in an event organized by the state government, a supposedly PDP Government, because of the fear of the Governor who is promoting a ‘unity government’ and invites members of other political parties to government events.
At yesterday’s town hall meeting speaker after speaker had spoken without chanting the name of their party, obviously, the PDP. Even the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Enobong Uwah, who is the leader of PDP in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom State, addressed the audience by declaring the purpose of the town hall meeting, and spoke at length yesterday in Itu/Ibiono town hall meeting without mentioning the word, PDP, not even by mistake. He rather chanted the popular Ibibio traditional chants, saying ‘Akwa Ibom Isongho, Itu/Ibiono Isongho, yak Isong odot ukana’.
House of Assembly members spoke, House of Reps member spoke, commissioners spoke, all without mentioning the ruling party in the state, PDP, but when it was time for Senator Ita Enang to speak, after greeting His Excellency the Governor and a few stakeholders, Ita Enang chanted loudly, APCeeeee, APCeeee, APCeeee, he did not end there, he added in vernacular ‘nyin iwak ikan’, meaning “we are the majority”. The statement, ‘we are the majority’ was confusing and had no other intention than to possibly mock, insult and poke the members of the PDP on the face – because there is no possibility that APC had the largest attendance in a PDP state government town hall meeting, neither do they have the largest population in Akwa Ibom State for now, his statement however, emboldened the few APC stakeholders who were in attendance at the event as they became very unruly thereafter, cheering Ita Enang intermittently and reacting unnecessarily to his comments despite sitting very close to the Governor and other PDP stakeholders under the same canopy.
Ita Enang’s bold display of comfort and an attitude of ‘we are taking over’ did not end there, apart from making a lot of demands and requests from the Governor including asking him to urgently pay for compensation on the Calabar-Itu higway project executed by the Federal Government, he boldly requested for the allocation of percentage and slots to the All Progressive Congress in the state’s empowerment programmes, a request that did not sit well with the Governor.
When the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno mounted the podium to speak, he chanted PDP, and that was obviously necessitated by Ita Enang’s boldness to advertise his party in an opposition government’s event. Hitherto, the Governor had been declaring that the ongoing town hall meeting across the Federal Constituencies in the state is not a political event nor an activity of any political party, hence the invitation and attendance of other political parties and the need to keep political party togas away from the event. And government officials and other attendees at the town hall meetings have been keeping to the rule of not mentioning political parties, until Senator Ita Enang broke the rule at Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency town hall meeting.
When Pastor Umo Eno mounted the podium, apart from chanting PDP, he took time to disagree with Senator Ita Enang on the issue of allocating slots or percentage to the APC. Pastor Umo Eno made it clear that beneficiaries of his empowerment programmes are selected from the portals created by the state government for citizens to register, adding that it was not possible to allocate percentage or slots to anyone in the state for empowerment. The governor also made other analogies to clear himself that he is all about unity and development and not political sentiments. “When we are hungry, that hunger knows no political party, our elites use this political party, ethnicity and religion to divide us, but at the top echelon their children are marrying each other across party lines. Party is just a vehicle to a destination, what is important is the development of the state”. Pastor Umo Eno said.
