31.

Toronto, ON — The Liberal Party of Canada has announced that Leslie Church, an accomplished community leader, will be the Team Trudeau candidate for Toronto–St. Paul’s in the upcoming federal by-election.

 32.
“Leslie is a passionate community leader who is ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work building a stronger Toronto St–Paul’s,” said Sachit Mehra, President of the Liberal Party of Canada. “In this important by-election, the people of Toronto–St. Paul’s have a clear choice: elect Leslie to deliver our Liberal plan that makes the ultra-wealthy pay a bit more so every generation has a fair shot at success, or let Pierre Poilievre and his Conservatives make cuts to programs that help the middle class.”

 33.
Leslie has deep roots in Toronto–St. Paul’s, and has spent much of her career serving her community, advising governments, and working with local organizations in Toronto and across the country to build a better future for everyone. Most recently, she served as a senior advisor and Chief of Staff in the federal government, where her work and leadership contributed to the development of $10-a-day child care, initiatives to build more affordable homes, and increased investments to reduce health care waitlists.

 34.
“Toronto– St. Paul’s needs a local champion who understands the challenges and opportunities of our community and families,” said Leslie Church. “I am ready to work with the Liberal team to build more homes, strengthen public health care, and lower the cost of living – so everyone in our community has a fair chance to succeed.”

 50.
Chrystia Freeland and our Liberal team recently presented Budget 2024, the next steps in our plan to build more homes, reduce the cost of living, and grow an economy that works for all Canadians.

 51.
 52.
Budget 2024 is all about delivering Fairness for Every Generation.

 53.
 54.
It is a plan that asks the ultra-wealthy to pay a bit more, so we can help younger generations have a fair shot at success, make it easier and more affordable for Canadians to rent or own a home, and grow the middle class.

 55.
 56.
Here’s our plan:

 57.
 58.
Solving the housing crisis

 59.

 60.
Unlocking 3.87 million new homes.

 61.
Creating a new Canadian Renters’ Bill of Rights so that renters can bargain fairly.

 62.
Establishing the Tenant Protection Fund to better protect tenants against unfair rising rent payments, renovictions, or bad landlords.

 63.
Making sure renters get credit for on-time rent payments to help them qualify for their first mortgage.

 64.
Launching Canada Builds: a partnership with provinces and territories to build more rental housing across the country.

 65.
Making it easier for builders to build apartments across Canada through the Apartment Construction Loan Program and removing the GST from new rental housing.

 66.
Streamlining foreign credential recognition in the construction sector to help skilled trades workers build more homes.

 67.
Incentivizing Canada’s educational institutions to build more student housing.

 68.

 69.
 70.
Lowering the cost of living

 71.

 72.
Stabilizing the costs of groceries by strengthening competition in the grocery sector.

 73.
Building more $10-a-day child care spaces.

 74.
Launching a new National School Food Program to support 400,000 more kids every year.

 75.
Cracking down on junk fees to make prices fairer and help middle-class Canadians keep more of their money in their pockets.

 76.
Enhancing free and affordable banking options and capping certain fees at $10.

 77.
Building on progress to strengthen the right to repair, so Canadians can repair their broken appliances and devices—and at a fair price.

 78.

 79.
 80.
Growing an Economy That Works for all Canadians

 81.

 82.
Making the ultra-wealthy pay a little bit more so we can invest in affordable housing, deliver better public health care, and grow the middle class.

 83.
Securing Canada’s AI advantage to help Canadian researchers, start-ups, and businesses access remain competitive.

 84.
Launching the Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program to unlock access to capital for Indigenous communities.

 85.
Boosting supports for Canadian businesses to purchase the equipment they need to boost productivity and compete in the economy of tomorrow.

 86.
Providing further tax relief to secure the future of Canadian small businesses and create good jobs for generations to come.

 87.
Helping increase access to mental health services for young Canadians through the new Youth Mental Health Fund.

 88.
Delivering the Canada Disability Benefit to increase the financial well-being of over 600,000 persons with disabilities.

 89.

 90.
 91.
While we’re taking action, Pierre Poilievre is trying to stop our progress and cut investments to the middle class. He wants to cut support for families and seniors, stop building more homes for Canadians, and take Canada backward.

 92.
 93.
But we won’t let him. We’re going to deliver fairness for every generation.

 200.
Research suggests that a woman is 50% less likely than a man to consider running for office, even though 50% of women have valuable community leadership and organizational experience. And we need to do more to create a space where women feel safe, empowered, and encouraged to run for office.

 201.
We all know a woman in our community who would make a fantastic leader, and one of the best ways to celebrate International Women’s Day is to Invite Her to Run for office.
429.

Durham, ON – The Liberal Party of Canada has announced that Robert Rock, an accomplished community leader and Ward Councillor, will be the official Team Trudeau candidate for Durham in the upcoming federal by-election.

 430.
“Robert has a strong track record of public service and delivering for families across the Durham region,” said Sachit Mehra, President of the Liberal Party of Canada. “In this important by-election, the people of Durham have a clear choice: elect Robert and move forward with our Liberal plan to make life more affordable and build an economy that works for everyone in the region, or let Pierre Poilievre and his Conservatives take us backward with deep cuts that would hurt the the middle class. Durham needs a strong voice in Parliament fighting for their priorities – and only Robert will be that voice.”

 431.
For 20 years, Robert has lived, worked, volunteered, and raised his family in Durham Region. Currently, he is serving the community as Ward 3 Councillor for the Township of Scugog, where he works every day to build a better future for families. Robert is also a dedicated community advocate who supports many local organizations and fundraising events in the region, including by having served on the board of Community Living, Ajax Pickering Board of Trade, and the Pickering Dolphins.

 432.
With Pierre Poilievre and Conservative politicians trying to import far-right Americans politics to Canada and pushing for deep cuts to public health care, $10-a-day child care and dental care, and support for the middle class, now more than ever, Durham needs a community champion like Robert who will move forward and build a better future for the region.

 433.
“This is an important moment for our community,” said Robert Rock. “I’ve been proud to call Durham my home for the last 20 years, and I know we need a local leader who will fight to put more money in families’ pockets, build a strong economy, and create good middle class jobs. I want to be that leader so we can move our community forward – and I will work every day to fight for our people and make life better for everyone here in Durham.”
