54.
55.
56.
57.
So, like the title says, here’s a five second fix.

58.
59.
60.
61.
Head into the Play Store app and search for Android System WebView. You just need to check the details and make sure it’s dated recently or has the version number. 89.0.04389.105]

62.
63.
64.
65.
Click update, wait for it to complete, restart your phone and away you go. Everything should be back to normal,

66.
67.
68.
69.
If you can’t see the update, worry not, you can fix it by uninstalling the latest update to the Android System WebView. You can do that by taking the following steps on your device running One UI 3:

70.
71.
72.
73.

Head to Settings » Apps

Now tap on the sort button (with a downward arrow on it), enable the Show system apps, and then tap on OK.

Now find Android System WebView and tap on it.

Tap on the three dots on the top right corner of the screen.

Now select Uninstall updates

74.
75.
76.
77.
If you are on a device with Android 9, you can do this:

78.
79.
80.
81.

Navigate to Settings » Apps

Tap on the three dots on the top right corner of the screen.

Now tap on Show system apps.

Now find Android System WebView and tap on it.

Now select Uninstall updates.

82.
83.
84.
85.
Alternatively, you can also try to uninstall the update to Android System WebView directly from the Play Store. and repeat the whole thing again.

86.
87.
88.
89.

90.
91.
92.
93.
Hopefully this will get you up and running again in no time.

119.
120.
Remote support is a crucial way of getting IT help during this current crisis. However, it’s not new. Support Midlands has been carrying out remote support on computers since 1997. In those days, things were different. There was no internet to speak of, access was through a normal telephone line and speeds, if we were lucky were 56kpbs. A far cry from a normal fibre line of 50 or 60Mbps.

121.
122.
123.
124.
So, we have been providing IT support remotely for our customers for a long time and over that time the technology has evolved considerably. Now we provide a suite of remote packages that allow us to provide remote support and allow clients to access thier own computers remotely.

125.
126.
127.
128.
How does remote support work?

129.
130.
131.
132.
Remote support is a simple secure way of seeing or operating a remote computer. Being able to see the clients screen make a huge difference

133.
134.
135.
136.
We use two methods, first there is our premium support tool Splashtop SOS which gives us loads of great features to help quickly resolve problems.

137.
138.
139.
140.
Secondly, we use Microsoft Quick Assist which is built into new versions of Windows 10.

141.
142.

145.
146.
147.
148.
Quick assist is limited in some ways. Splashtop SOS however allows us to support everything, MAC, PC, IOS and Android. We can remotely connect and help resolve problems on just about any computer and handheld device.

149.
150.
151.
152.
Wait! There’s more!

153.
154.
155.
156.
In addition to support, we also provide unattended access using Splashtop Business Access . We can also provide you with a way to remotely access your computers using Splashtop Business Access, it’s a lot cheaper than LogMeIn and GoToMyPC with all of the same features.

157.
158.
159.
160.
If you want to run a trial of Splashtop Business Access or need help with any problem, get in touch with us today. You can use the chat button at the bottom of this page.

188.
189.
190.
191.
when you are making your own designs for 3D printing, you may find yourself plagued by low poly .STL files. What was once a beautiful sweeping curve is changed to ugly jagged squares when you try to slice it. the above image isnt too bad but it can get much much worse to the point of your functional models becoming unusable. Luckily this is usually an easy fix.

192.
193.
194.
195.
This specific guide will apply to Inventor and Fusion 360 but it can most likely be applied to other CAD programs too. The root of the problem lies in the export quality. this is because CAD software is mathematically defined whereas .STL files are a mesh made from triangles. The export quality defines how many triangles to give to a solid. the trade off for this is file size. in my case, the file size triples for the high export quality

196.

259.
260.
261.
262.
I need to mention first, print this in PETG or better. Mine is in beautiful Prusament Orange PETG.

263.
264.
265.
266.
So, why would you want to modify your perfectly good printer? For me, it was a matter of if I could rather than if I should. I wanted the challenge of printing a complex assembly and assembling it. The benefits I will go into later were just nice bonuses alongside the main objective.

267.
268.
269.
270.
Before I get into the details, I will provide a brief overview of what this upgrade does.

271.
272.
273.
274.
The PitStop Extruder is designed to improve the maintenance accessibility for the extruder assembly allowing the user to easily access the feed motor, gears and hotend assembly as easily as possible. This is achieved with powerful neodymium magnets and some very clever design using off the shelf parts.

275.
276.
277.
278.
With the overview out the way, let’s get into the difficulties of the build. By far the hardest part is printing. Most of the parts are fine and easy to print as long as your dimensional accuracy and bed adhesion is good. But the fan duct, the fan duct is the most difficult part to print due to the constant overhang and thin walls. Once you have one of these printed, its smooth sailing. I personally added some support material to the steepest overhang to improve quality for the nut slot and part fan although it can be printed without supports.

279.
280.
281.
282.

283.
284.
285.
286.
The other problem I had was with the filament sensor. As I am using the MMU2S, there is a linkage of three parts that rotate around a bolt each. Getting this bolt tightness just right is one of the most important parts. Too tight and the idler door will not open or shut, too loose adds slop into the linkage making it unreliable for the sensor to not even feeding the filament. This is resolved with trial and error. Start with the FS lever, then the linkage plate and finally the idler door itself.

287.
288.
289.
290.
Other than those two points, everything is detailed incredibly well in the assembly video on the PitStop extruder website.

291.
292.
293.
294.
Is it worth it? For me, yes.

295.
296.
297.
298.
For everyone else, it depends on what you want out of it. A fun project? Satisfying magnetic action? Easy maintenance? Then probably yes. I think it is worth doing, especially because it is completely reversible. This extruder modifies none of the old parts except for the hotend fan wires.

299.
300.
301.
302.
This upgrade will most likely not improve print quality, it actually has more potential to reduce print quality as the extruder assembly is heavier. The key word there is potential, these prints are nothing to scoff at.

303.
304.
305.
306.

307.
308.
309.
310.
No modification is complete without more modification. I drilled a 4mm bore all the way to the gears to allow the PTFE tube from the MMU2S to feed straight into the gears. this improves feeding from the MMU2S

318.
One final note. If you do this upgrade and start getting strange layer inconsistencies, check the mating surface between the two halves for any obstructions. In my case, a tiny blob of printed filament caused the following prints to look awful. Easy fix luckily.

347.
Lets look at an old fashioned phishing email.

348.
349.
350.
351.
An old, old, phishing scam is the fake email attachment and one we have not seen for a while is the fax! A lot of companies no longer have a fax machine but can receive emails through online fax services through their IP phone systems. This is one we received today. Like a blast from the past, who can resist looking at a fax?

352.
353.
354.
355.
You never know, it might be real so we ran the link on a quarantined machine just in case. We have a lot of faith in Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection (for which we are a reseller!) this is what we saw when we tried to open the fax.

427.
428.
429.
430.
3D printing has two fronts you need to work with to get anything done. The hardware of the printer and filament and the software of slicing parts and generating tool paths, this post will be covering the slicer, there is no better time for this with the release of version 2.3.

431.
432.
433.
434.
This is going to be a basic overview of the software. By the end of the post, you will be able to slice parts and export the Gcode.

435.
436.
437.
438.
Just so you know, you don’t need a Prusa printer to use this slicer, there are loads of common printers with premade profiles and you can make your own profiles from scratch. My examples are using a MK3S (overview here) with MMU2S (review here).

439.
440.
441.
442.
For any examples, I will be using the 3D Benchy 3D printing torture test. Get your own from here.

450.
The first part of the slicer worth touching on is the user mode, PrusaSlicer gives you three options. Simple, Advanced, and Expert. Each mode gives you more options to work with. The simple mode is good for teaching the software as it hides most of the complex options. I personally use the Expert mode but this will all apply to any user mode.

453.
454.
We need to add a part into the plater to do anything. Click the left button from the top UI to open your browser and select 3D models to import. 3D models are most often in .stl, .obj or .3mf file extensions but there are more obscure ones that will work.

593.
You can see our other blogs on OneDrive here: From my previous posts on OneDrive, this is a quick summary of how to identify the status of your OneDrive account and how to change the status of files stored in OneDrive. 600.
601.
This update, finally rolled out in September 2020 is a great feature that tidies up the OneDrive folder layout when you are accessing folders shared to you.

602.
603.
604.
605.
In a previous post, I showed how when you connect using the Sync button in the web portal, OneDrive will download all synced folders to a separate folder set which is derived from the Organisation Name in the Office365 portal.

606.
607.
608.
609.
NOTE! You can still choose to use the older Sync method on a folder but you have to choose. You can’t add a shortcut and choose to Sync. This is chosen on a shared folder by shared folder basis so you can mix and match the two methods.

610.
611.
612.
613.
This new feature allows you create a shortcut to a shared folder that shows in your personal OneDrive for business folder.

614.
615.
616.
617.
Here is the new option. Note, there is a new icon to denote the way the folder is shared.

654.
655.
656.
657.

Disadvantages

Personal folders and shared folders are mixed together. this might lead to confusion for the end user. It blurs the distinction that thier OneDrive folder is personal to them.

It removes the personalisation of who has shared a folder, depending on use this can be a pro and a con.

It seems a little less reliable, we have seen the create shortcut fail to place first time.

686.
The Lenovo Ideapad L340 ticks all the must-have boxes for an entry-level, low budget gaming laptop. As reviewed with Intel Core i5-9300H quad-core processor and a dedicated GeForce GTX 1050 3GB Graphics card, it pushes well above the standard 60fps mark in real-world benchmarks, translating in a smooth gaming experience for all.

695.
696.
697.
698.
Design

699.
700.
701.
702.
The IdeaPad L340 sits between Lenovo’s own 15-inch business ThinkPad X1 and the gaming-oriented Legion Y545 lineup, but is more of a mid-2019 debut that was a technology refresh of the heavier Legion lineup. The Lenovo IdeaPad L340 is mainly a design change, as it shares its core specifications, pricing of some models, and even port layout with the Y540.

703.
704.
705.
706.
Like its competition, Lenovo clads the IdeaPad L340 in a black chassis with stylish blue keyboard lighting and amazing build quality for the money. Priced further south than many of its rivals, though, and it gives reason to start appreciating the materials used here.

707.
708.
709.
710.
Display

711.
712.
713.
714.
The IdeaPad L340’s display is everything a value-oriented gaming laptop should be. In addition to its 1080p resolution that’s perfect for gameplay with the GeForce GTX 1050, but games are brought to life by its bright and colorful picture, acceptable viewing angles, and anti-glare surface.

715.
716.
717.
718.
The IPS panel has a 60Hz refresh rate. Outside of a few esports titles, the GTX 1050 isn’t likely to deliver over 60 frames per second (fps) in modern titles, but let’s be honest, the Xbox one delivers 60fps, and we don’t hear people moaning about that.

719.
720.
721.
722.
Performance

723.
724.
725.
726.
When it comes to performance, the L340 really performs beyond its price bracket, and compared to systems that have a similar spec with a higher price bracket, the L340 is a bang for buck must.

727.
728.
729.
730.
The Intel Core i5-9300H processor, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB NVMe SSD make for smooth operation, now for those in the know, the 2.4GHz base clock can max at an impressive 4.1GHz in the Lenovo’s turbo mode.

731.
732.
733.
734.
Finally, for those who are thinking of entry level streaming, the 1050 will allow you to utilise the NVENC encoder in SLOBS & OBS. So rather than run a second, PC, you can simply attach a second monitor and capture card and light streaming is very doable.

735.
736.
737.
738.
Conclusion

739.
740.
741.
742.
Now, here at PC Support Midlands Ltd, we like to stand by the IT equipment we sell and the L340 is no exception. 767.
A simple explanation – why you NEVER use the same password twice

768.
769.
770.
771.
We’re all useless at passwords and security. Who hasn’t used one password for multiple logins? We all hear the most used password is a variation on the word password!!! People often think that using a variation of their password in different places is safe.

772.
773.
774.
775.
I am going to describe a quite realistic scenario explaining why using the same password multiple times is a really bad idea.

776.
777.
778.
779.

780.
781.
782.
783.
Unfortunately, this is why you should use different passwords for each website or service you access.

784.
785.
786.
787.
Lets say you have an email account, JoeyBloggs@anywhere.com and your password is a really good one like £4Hu5^knf. Surely you can use this one everywhere? Sorry, but the answer is no! I will explain.

788.
789.
790.
791.
You have an account with the shopping giant TheEmporium.com and they want you to log in. So you enter your email address and your ‘ultra secure’ password that you keep on a post it note under your desk.

792.
793.
794.
795.
Then you open an account with eBay, PayPal and Amazon.

796.
797.
798.
799.
So far so good. You can use your password to get in and out of these accounts with ease.

800.
801.
802.
803.
Then, The Emporium suffers a data breach. If you’re lucky they will tell you and you change your password at TheEmporium.com.

804.
805.
806.
807.
Unfortunately, the data stolen was your password and email address but that’s ok, you changed your password didn’t you?

808.
809.
810.
811.
The damned hackers though, they have a nice big set of data containing all the email addresses and passwords from the Emporium.com what they do is feed them into a robot that starts using the same email address and password on all the major shopping sites, email systems, banks and whatever else they think may be successful.

812.
813.
814.
815.
They leave the robot running overnight and it patiently works its way through the list, testing each email address and password in turn on eBay, PayPal, Amazon, Target, B&Q, The Emporium, anywhere.com. The list could be thousands of websites long.

816.
817.
818.
819.
Oh oh!!! They just found a hit! Your email address and password work and they have logged into the email account JoeyBloggs@anywhere.com.

820.
821.
822.
823.
Now they control your email account. Then another hit! Amazon!!! It’s a good day for the hackers.

824.
825.
826.
827.
Guess what happens next. They go into Amazon. And start ordering stuff to address they have added to the account. You wont see any emails, they are diverting them to a second account they set up just for this purpose. You will still see some emails so you won’t know theres a problem, it’s just nothing will show up from Amazon. If Amazon checks, the hackers can use your email account and can confirm everything is OK and carry on shopping.

828.
829.
830.
831.
Luckily, you catch on. You stop payments or you claim money back after your accounts were hacked and hopefully everything is fine. Except of course, the email and password still work everywhere else you used the same combination.

832.
833.
834.
835.
So you can see from this little example why using the same password in multiple locations is a really bad idea. Of course, there are loads of fraud detection methods in play by Amazon, Ebay, PayPal etc. Examples of that are two factor authentication or geo location logging but the first line of defence is you and your own security. Don’t forget, you may use the same email and password in hundreds of locations over the years so the problem may come back to bite you at any time, not to mention as people we are pretty poor at security so what are the chances you’ll see the post it note and reuse the password again somewhere else?

836.
837.
838.
839.
I have to point out, I am not even touching the implications of using your favourite cats name and your birth year and how social engineering can get that information very quickly indeed.

840.
841.
842.
843.
Don’t forget, that tireless robot might still be plugging away testing the same combinations again and again.

844.
845.
846.
847.
So, what is the answer? Well, its surprisingly simple. There are many password vaults around you can use such as Nordpass or Dashlane but the one I will highlight for this example is Google Chrome browser.

848.
849.
850.
851.
If you create a Google account and then log into Google Chrome browser, the next time you are signing in somewhere new, it will offer to create a password for you. The password will be very random, and secure and on top of that Google will store it for you. You don’t need to remember it, Chrome will do that for you and enter it next time you log into the same website. It will also remember the password on other devices for you if you log in and use Chrome.

852.
853.
854.
855.
It’s very secure as you would expect and you only have to remember one password, the one for your google account. As a bit of a bonus, google will alert you to known successful hacks of any sites for which you have stored passwords and it will prompt you to change the affected passwords.

856.
857.
858.
859.
So in summary; don’t reuse the same password. Don’t use your favourite pet, wife, husband or place of birth or any personal information in your password and finally, DON’T PANIC! Everything will be fine.

Let’s take a look at what it is and how it works.

881.
882.
SPOILER ALERT: I really can’t help feeling that we are going to start seeing scammers using this tool to cold call and convince people they are from Microsoft. I can imagine the scenario, “We must be from Microsoft! we are using the Microsoft Quick Assist tool”. Watch this space folks!!!!!

883.
884.
885.
886.
Quick Assist is built into Windows 10, you can find it easily, simply hit the Windows key and type ‘assist’. Quick Assist will appear and from here it’s easy. Microsoft use this themselves now on some of thier support teams. We too have been using it in comparison with our own Splashtop SOS for some remote support sessions. So far, it’s ok but isn’t as nice to use as a commercial product.

915.
916.
917.
918.
You will then see two options. Take Full Control or View Screen. View Screen is obvious and more secure from the standpoint of the person receiving assistance as the person helping can see the screen but not take control. this is useful when providing telephone support where seeing the screen is very helpful. In my example I asked to take full control.

963.
964.
965.
966.
Quick Assist isn’t a bad piece of software to use in a pinch to help someone with a problem. It is a bit unreliable in our experience. We have seen it drop connection frequently when switching between monitors on the remote computer. For us it does not replace using commercial software like Splashtop SOS or other products such as TeamViewer. But it can be useful if you are having problems as it provides another way to gain access to a computer to provide help and support. For home users it may be very useful to have particularly during our recurring lockdowns of 2020/21.
