214.

How do I transfer my mobile number?

 215.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to move your current phone number to a new phone.

 216.
1. Text your current provider to request a mobile PAC code

 217.
A PAC code should be given to you immediately over the phone or within two hours by text. This time frame is stipulated by the telecommunications regulator. So if you don’t get it, you’ve got cause to complain.

 218.
To prevent someone stealing your number, networks will want to verify your identity. So expect to be asked some questions and have the relevant information to-hand that’ll help you to answer quickly.

 219.
PAC codes are normally made up of nine digits and will be valid for 30 days. If time runs out before you’ve had a chance to use the code you were supplied with, you’ll need to request a new PAC from your existing mobile provider.

 220.
Calls to networks to get your PAC code are charged at standard rates.

 221.
If the above seems like a bit of a hassle and you just want a clean switch without having to speak to your existing provider, new government regulations have made the whole process a lot easier.

 222.
Text to Switch is simple. All you need to do is text PAC to 65075 and you’ll get your code straight away, you don’t even have to make a phone call.

 223.
Want to find out more? Check out our handy Text to Switch guide.

 224.
2. Contact your new network and give them the PAC code

 225.
When you provide your PAC code to a new network, the cancellation process will begin automatically with your old network.

 226.
Once your new network has the code, it will get in touch with the network you’re leaving to tell them about the number transfer and will schedule the switch.

 227.
This will normally be for the next working day. In the interim, keep your old SIM card in your phone so you can continue to use it to make calls and send texts.

 228.
If a weekend gets in the way, the process of porting your number may take longer.

 229.
But by and large, if you supply a carrier with a PAC Code on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you can expect the number transfer to be completed on the following Tuesday.

 230.
3. Check the SIM works in your phone and the new number has ported across

 231.
To do this, just place the SIM in your handset and make a call. Or ask someone to give you a ring.

 334.
Will I lose service?

 335.
The porting process is designed to minimise the time you’ll be without a service.

 336.
After you’ve supplied your new network with the PAC code, your old number will remain active. That means you’ll still receive calls and texts.

 337.
When the number transfer is actually being done, however, your service may go down for a very short time. It’s usually a few minutes.

 338.
When that happens, it should simply be a case of turning off and restarting your handset for full service to return.

 339.
Can I transfer a disconnected number?

 340.
You cannot transfer disconnected numbers, so do not cancel your existing contract if you wish to port your mobile number.

 342.
In the event that you don’t get around to using your PAC code within the 30-day deadline for usage, there’s nothing to worry about.

 343.
But you will have to contact the network you’re leaving to request another PAC code, which you can then use to transfer your number.

 344.
How do I transfer my apps, music and games to my new phone?

 345.
If you’ve read the walkthrough above, you’ll now know what you’ve got to do to port your existing number to the network you’re joining.

 346.
But, of course, when buying a new phone you’re probably going to transfer all your apps, games, movies, music and settings from your old phone too.

 347.
That’ll mean making a back-up of your current phone, then setting up your new phone using the back-up.

For example: “Important Battery Message – Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery.” Or, maybe you see “Unknown Part” under the “Parts and Service History” section in Settings.

 600.
Read on for more information about these messages.

 601.
What do these messages mean?

 602.
These messages appear when repair work has been done to your device to give information on the replaced component: battery, screen, camera (depending on your iPhone model, see below). Only an Apple Genius Bar or an Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace a component in the latest iPhones without prompting this message, but this doesn’t mean that your battery has an issue or is defective — it only means it was replaced with a new battery (or camera or screen) that works just as efficiently as the original one.

 603.
These messages don’t affect your device’s performance in any way. This message will be visible on the lock screen for 4 days and then for 15 more days in Settings. Getting this message doesn’t impact the iPhone’s performance. The only inconvenience is that you won’t be able to easily see your battery’s health and know when it’s time to replace it.

 604.
What are the types of messages you may see?

 623.
Replacements not performed by Apple will always appear as “Unknown Part”, but keep in mind that these components are functionally identical to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equivalents and won’t perform any differently. Sellers on Back Market put every device they sell through rigorous testing suites to verify like-new condition and functionality. These processes are then validated by our own in-house teams to ensure the best quality devices.

 624.
Long story short, if “Unknown Part” appears, the component is likely to have been replaced by a new one that will work as well as an original one. You can restore your backed up information to the original phone or to some other Android phones. You can’t use back up when you set up a personal device with a work profile or for work only, or when you set up a company-owned device.

 778.
Restoring data varies by phone and Android version. You can’t restore a backup from a higher Android version onto a phone running a lower Android version. Almost every Mobile Phone Manufacturer with the exception of Apple uses the Android Operating System.

 779.
Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 9 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

 780.
Where your phone data is stored

 782.
Backups are uploaded to Google servers and they’re encrypted with your Google Account password. For some data, your phone’s screen lock PIN, pattern or password is also used to encrypt your data so it can be backed up safely.

 783.
Your backup data (except what you back up to Google Photos) is erased if:

 784.

 785.
You don’t use your device for 57 days
