I first saw this idea in my favorite kid magazine Family Fun.  And it is so cute.  It can easily be adapted into many different food arrangements.  <span style="font-size: large;"><b>The basic idea</b></span> is cream cheese with a bit of blue food coloring -- the pond.  Then you spread the "pond" cream cheese on a small rice cake.  Lastly, place a Goldfish cracker or two on top -- cute senerio right? Goldfish on a pond.<br />

The base they showed in the magazine was a rice cake, but you could use a small pita.  Or you could place the blue cream cheese on a small plate and place the fish on top of the water and have the kids "fish" the fish and water out with a carrot stick or celery stick "a fishing pole."  The ideas are limitless -- just be creative and let the kids have some some with their food.

This is a Ritz cracker with some garlic cream cheese spread I made.  But you could easily use a store bought spread.  Cherry tomatoes halved and then quartered (to make lady bug wings).  Use half of a black olive for the head and two small cuttings of chives for the antennas. Use gel food coloring to die a small amount of the cheese spread black.  Place black cheese spread into a sealed plastic baggie (making a pipping bag) and place tiny spots on the lady bug wings.  To die for cute. <br />

18. These were simple too.  Ritz crackers, a piece of pepperoni, a round piece of cheese cut in half, and half of a black olive for the head. Cutting the cheese was the hardest part.  I use Mini BabyBell cheese.  And I cut each wheel in thirds.<br />

27. This is the butterfly birthday cake I made.  The butterfly on top of the sheet cake is made out of a 9 inch round cake pan.  The butterflies body is made out of yellow M&Ms.  Licorice was perfect for the antennas.<br />

31. These butterfly cupcake were easy to make.  I used pretzels for wings,  an M&M for a head, black licorice for antennas, and the body was pipped in using pink frosting. A cute yummy treat.<br />

I used to make all sorts of appetizers for parties.  It didn&#39;t matter how difficult the recipe was; now I have two kids -- two years old and 5 months.  I still like to cook, but sometimes I have to think about the time it takes to make something.  If I am going to spend a lot of time on the dinner and dessert, I have to cut back on the time it takes to make appetizers.  Here is one of my go to appetizers that always gets lots of oohhs and yummms, but it is super easy.&lt;br /&gt;

48. <b>Goat Cheese Ball with Pistachios</b><br />

50. 1stick of room temperature unsalted butter<br />
51. 1 10 oz stick of room temperature goat cheese<br />
52. 3/4 cup of pistachios (and a bit more reserved for decoration)<br />
53. 2 cloves of garlic (make a paste using some sea salt) <br />
54. use fresh chopped scallions or chives to decorate the cheese ball the day you serve it<br />

Whip room temperature butter, room  temperature goat cheese, and garlic/sea salt paste together.  Then mix in chopped pistachios.  Reserve some chopped nuts for decoration.  Now for the cheese ball part -- it is really more of a half dome.  Use a bowl that is the size of the half dome you want to create. Place plastic wrap in the bowl with enough extra wrap to over the cheese once it is in the bowl.  Spray the plastic wrap with Pam Cooking Spray (this will help you invert the cheese dome and uncover it). Place cheese in the plastic wrapped bowl -- press cheese into bowl to insure the cheese takes on  the form of the bowl.  Cover the cheese with  the remaining plastic wrap.  Put in the refrigerator to set.  This can be done the day before the party.<br />

Take plastic wrap off.  Use the remaining nuts to decorate the cheese ball.  Lightly press the nuts into the cheese ball.  Also use some chopped scallions or chives to decorate cheese ball and platter.  Serve with crackers.<br />

This is <b>the key to the success</b> of this cheese ball -- you <b>MUST take it out 1 hour before you want to serve it</b>.  It has to soften or people will not like it as much.  Trust me, it is the difference between having very little of the cheese ball leftover and having most of the cheese ball leftover.   <br />
