Seeing the numbers, the statistician in me was not able to resist playing with that data. " afraid if i m to stuck in SecA due to that paper only. so i need ur urgent help regarding which books to follow that adheres to the question pattern so that i can at least pass the exam. its my 3rd year running..and i have no time. " My first comment to him will be, go to a quite place, have some time and brainstorm what is it that he is getting wrong? Keep AeSI out of the blame game and think hard on what can be your faults. Just write out wherever comes to the mind. Don't judge. Keep thinking and pushing yourself for the reason on what is going wrong. Think back to all exams and find the causes. Once you have number of causes, you will definitely begin seeing a pattern emerging. Now is the judging time. Find the main reasons that you see now. Is is the lack of your understanding of the subject? Or is it your lack of expressing it in the exams. Or is it a combination of both? You can fail in the exams only for two reasons, either you lack understanding of the subject or the understanding is not expressed well in the exam papers. Find the reason and implement steps in your study routine to eliminate it. Hope this helps. Blog readers, do you have any other ideas, feel free to share them here.

I remember when I crossed section A, I was the happiest person on earth that day. It felt like that. After all, this was the change that I was expecting for a while then. This step meant great to me as this brought me closure to the completion of <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=amaesi" target="_blank">AMAeSI</a> degree. Crossing over to this side of AeSI degree meant I was just a few steps away from being an aeronautical engineer. It meant being close to the freedom of earning my own money, it meant I was closer to be working at an aerospace organization. So what were the thoughts that went to my mind. The prominent thought that I remember was about learning <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/catia" target="_blank">catia</a>, as this was only cad software that I heard about back then, it meant looking at the kind of jobs available in the market for aerospace. The thought of the training or job decision also went through my mind What's the point I want to make, when you are in section A, don't worry about job prospect, skills development, jobs outlook, training or any other thing. Just study and hook your attention to getting good marks and passing section A. Don't burn yourself in any other tension. Section B and most importantly the last two semester of AeSI are the best time when you need to think of jobs, <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=skills+job" target="_blank">skills</a> development, <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=training+after+aesi" target="_blank">training</a> etc. So till then enjoy your studies. Learn what you read, expand your knowledge, improve your communication skills and&#160; essentially have masti. Treat your journey of AeSI like a marathon, start slow and steady. Don't burn up all your fuel in the initial legs. Keep them for the last two semester of AeSI. Till then expand your knowledge, do interesting projects, build networks, grow your subject knowledge etc. Being a rocket is not what is required. Be a jet engine first. Not finishing section A in the stipulated 2 years is that a problem? Well if you can finish it within the 2 years term its all well and you should always aim to get it done by that time. But for reasons we all know, if you fall back and don't quite hit that timeline, Does this affect you anyway? Well not significantly. Things don't go nasty until this gap is not too large. So strive to get to it but don't worry too much if it waivers little bit. Generally if the gap is visible and noticeable be prepared to answer these following questions in your interviews. <ol> <li>What took you so long? </li> <li>Why there is a gap in completing the degree?</li> <li>What you did during that time?</li> </ol> That doesn't look good but don't worry about it much. Just concentrate on section B now. Keep your focus on the next level. Now is the time when you need to think of the skills. Skills are the bridges that can make people overlook this stuff, so when you are in section B, use it as a <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=skills+job" target="_blank">skills</a> development platform apart from the usual study. Set some time, like an hour a day, just to build some skills. The skills may be range from working on a cad program, programming to communication, learning Microsoft excel. Anything but its always worthwhile to begin by putting in the time to build internal skills in section B. Best of luck. When I began <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/ouraesi" target="_blank">OURAeSI</a> yahoo 2 years back, I was all alone in that group and my ramblings never bothered anyone but in late 2004 I began to get many emails from unknown students and members of OURAeSI asking me stop flooding there emails with my ramblings. I was amused, the groups mails were opt in and the guys themselves wanted those mails but when they received any mail that was not related to job requirements they shot an email to me to stop filling there email accounts. Understandably I ignored first few emails but down the line again those few mails resurfaced. So it was then I saw that obviously I was doing too much of the mails in the yahoo OURAeSI group and around that time I w also began to notice the blogging phenomenon so I went ahead and created my first blog and thus <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">my-aesi</a> was born. Read the <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/2009/02/achieve.html" target="_blank">first post here in this archive</a>. I am glad I did so. Since then I have filled all my thoughts as student, as AeSI pass out, as a trainee and as a working professional in aerospace industry <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">here</a>. Now when I see back I see this long tail of my transition and some advice that I wanted to pass on to the folks of AeSI. The blog basically gave me the outlet, the easy medium to share whatever I learnt in all my stages of life. Also don't blindly follow what your fellow Graduate or senior mate is doing in there career. Every case is individual basis and many not be viable for every individual. Your main stress after AeSI should be to get first job with companies like Airbus,Bangalore, Quest, Infotech, Patni, Satyam, Wipro, TCS as starting point. Try getting into project which are in Aircraft manufacturing sector rather than Research sector unless you have mind set up to be in Research arena in your future career. The reason why MTech/ME/MS is not advisable in India immediately is that there is no guarantee that you might be ending up in your first job in similar field. Its always advisable to work for 7-8 years after AeSI before venturing into ME/MTech/MSc coursework based on your field of work for those 7-8 years. You will gain professionally better that way. There is also other side of it based on individual back ground or his ability to pull off scholarship from places like Royal Aeronautical Society,London or AIAA,USA,CASI,canada or family support from India for further studies like MSc/MS in UK/US/Canada/Australia to meet CEng Licensing Academic requirement which is minimum accredited MS/MSc from these countries only. Your experience after MSc is only considered for registration with EC-UK.Usually RAeS pays for full tuition &amp; maintenance fees if you are successful with them in obtaining one of prestigious scholarships. But its on competitive based from applicants across the world since RAeS is present in all 5 continents of the world. There is no harm in trying such option as it gives you chance to succeed. Details about there programme available on <a href="http://www.raes.org.uk">www.raes.org.uk</a> Try first of all for Scholarship options and if that is not possible usual financial support from family or bank in India which is usual practice in 98% cases for Graduates from India. You are busy learning the new <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/catia" target="_blank">catia</a> software, you are going smoothly in all your tutorials. But as you progress through your tutorials do you feel “am I learning something new, am I growing. Am I facing a problem that I wanted to solve.” If you are not hindered by a problem you aren't growing. Solving a problem, is the best way to grow and learn. I have always said that real learning only comes when you are working on a real time projects and are facing the day to day real challenges. My CAD learning accelerated when I was assigned on a real life project of CAD modeling of mixed flow compressor. Previously I was learning the <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=solidworks" target="_blank">solidworks</a> software with tutorials in my spare time, but the real lessons I learnt came when I faces some real problem working on modeling that compressor. The constraints of the projects presents you to try out new things. So always challenge yourself. Always strike to work on a problem. This is the only way you will truly learn a tool or a subject. If your boss or mentor in your <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=training+after+aesi" target="_blank">training</a> period is not giving you any challenging and interesting work. Give yourself interesting assignments, put restrictions and work on something that do have real value for you you or others. Do the tutorials but make them hard. Put your own constraint. The barriers you put might be of time based or resource based. This will help you grow. Time constraint is the easy one. You can say you will complete a certain job in 10 minutes. The resource based constraint can be that in your next modeling project you will not use the toolbars shortcuts at all. Or you can say that you will do the next modeling of the FEA model by scripting. You can put a restriction that in your next tutorial you will not touch the mouse. So by limiting the time or putting restriction on the tools that you can use you can challenge yourself to solve the problems. This will only help you grow. Try it. It really works. If yes, what else will I need to apply? When should I start? </blockquote> So I forwarded her mail to <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/bishnujee" target="_blank">Bishnujee</a> who I think was in the best position to answers her queries. Well here’s the reply that Bishnujee gave. <blockquote> Yes you can pursue MS/MSc programme in any of the countries abroad. The programme is accredited for further studies &amp; employment not only in India but also beyond Indian subcontinent. You need to apply early for US,Canadian Universities as the admission in these countries close a year in advance. In UK admission process is faster and it may be completed in less than a month. Some of the basic check you need to do before you plan to pursue your MS/MSc programme. How the program is going to benefit you in your future career and whether the country has liberal Immigration policy which will allow you to switch to Employment after completion of studies. Immigration policy changes from time to time and so do careful research on this front before you decide to pursue MS/MSc program. Also try applying for Scholarship/Assistantships whenever you decide to pursue such program as it might be costly option to pursue same without any support. There are numerous bodies like Royal Aeronautical Society,IMech,UK ,AIAA(USA),CASI (Canada) administers scholarships for Qualified Engineers. Usually they cover full tuition fees and maintenance fees for full programme. Only if you are not successful you should consider option of Bank Loan or whatever other means as Scholarship is purely on merit. Aeronautical Engineers from The Aeronautical Society of India are treated at par with same level as very best of Universities awarding Aero Degree world wide. It all comes down to your interview process with the awarding body for same. Try doing search on Google or other search engine about Immigration policy of that country before thinking of pursuing MS/MSc in those location. Some European countries has strict immigration policy,its better to consider UK as it has swiftest immigration policy for Degree Engineers who completed MSc there. Also they make you academically eligible for CEng(EC-UK),but you will need to be working in Aerospace sector for 7-10 years after MSc from UK University to be eligible to be interviewed or tested by them for CEng. US used to be good destination for pursuing MS in Aerospace though Immigration policy has been changing and getting tougher here.H1B Work Visa has now been under Lottery system which was different during 2004 when I landed here just based on Job Offer from Boeing Company in Seattle and they sponsored for my H1B &amp; Green Card without any lottery system which makes it bit game of luck and not the safest thing to do in life. NASA,Boeing,Lockheed Martin accepts your AeSI Degree at par with ABET accrediated BSc Aeronautical (Honours) Degree from US University.So you guys should be fine on that part and most US Universities like UK one have listed AeSI as Degree Awarding Insititution from India. So what are the software that AeSI graduate should learn. I have already mentioned software tools used by aeronautical engineers list, you can start with these. If you don’t have access to any of the software tools mentioned and are apprehensive of any programming language then by all means take up excel as this is the most used tool in the engineering domain. Learn from someone who is not doing it only for money alone. Learn from someone who is truly interested in teaching. Learn from such a place where you have the atmosphere of learning. Learn from where you can get the bare minimum of facilities like libraries question papers on demand and now the mandatory <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=training+after+aesi" target="_blank">training</a>&#160; facilities And that place, my friend, is the place called GIE, Yes for me and many others it embodies all the things that I listed above. And I am not saying it alone a recent poll on which is the <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=best+study+center+for +AeSI" target="_blank">best study center for AeSI</a>, the winner was GIE. Yes <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/GIE" target="_blank">GIE</a> and I vote for it and am thankful to have an opportunity to be a part of it. It was started with a noble cause by Prof Krishnan and is carrying it forward. Its more famous than AeSI? Why because of its students. Today in my new office someone asked me about my qualification and when I said I did AeSI, he pointed me ‘oh are you from GIE?’ I said yes and it felt great that the guy knew about GIE and he is not an AeSI guy. This very thing happened in my <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/NAL" target="_blank">NAL</a> days, there from the propulsion director to all scientist everyone knew <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/aesi" target="_blank">AeSI</a> guys as GIE students. We were not know as AeSI students but the guys from GIE. So what's the point I am making. Well choose whatever you want but do think about the points that I have mentioned. But if you ask me, I will tell you don't <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=natrajan+source" target="_blank">miss learning from the source</a>. I have tackled this question many times here in this blog and was one of my reason to begin the OURAeSI club back in 2002!&#160; And today I want to point you to one paragraph from <a href="http://www.thesimpledollar.com/2009/01/04/seven-huge-financial-mistakes-i-made-during-my-college-career/" target="_blank">Trent</a>, where he correctly puts the words to my feeling on this matter. <blockquote> Similarly, I should have ignored any and all advice relating to what major you should or shouldn’t have if you want to earn a good income. Earning a good income relies much more on building diverse and marketable skills, not what you majored in - what’s actually important is that you completed a degree and learned some generally useful skills along the way. </blockquote> Yes this is true and as I see my career and careers of my friends it feels so true. After all being in the industry is all about the skills that you possess, the skills that you accumulate, so when you are at this stage of the AeSI just choose that feels close to your passion and what you enjoy doing. That will be a correct choice. Don't base it on other's&#160; opinion or others choices or what others are doing or saying. This year the old syllabus is almost out and new is in. The new syllabus of AeSI looks good on paper but only the students studying them will have the real feedback how is it on the field. 3rd change as <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/bishnujee" target="_blank">Bishnujee</a> ji has informed is the Accreditation that AeSI degree has got. Here is what he said. AeSI degree is not only equivalent to BSc in aerospace but its BSc(honours)! Many thanks to Bishnujee for all the efforts he is taking in this regards. AeSI is definitely changing. I am not as attached to AeSI as I was a couple of years ago and this limits my comment on this subject. Don't assume. Don’t assume what the problem is, state it test it and get to the bottom of it. Don’t assume, search for <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=facts" target="_blank">facts</a>. if you have a theory test it than say it. Do more than you think. Think and test. Not think and think. 2. First capture the <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/2008/08/should-i-skip-applied-mechanics.html" target="_blank">big picture</a> then delve into the details. Details are important but before going into the the details get the frame ready. see the big picture. Move back and see the whole as a problem. Set your frame right. Determine your north and south then after you have verified that you are heading the right direction then you should fine tune and get into details. 3. Keep your <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/2008/07/are-you-learning-catia-or-solidworks-or.html" target="_blank">methods</a> right the results will follow. Have your tools ready. Learn and set up the processes rights results will follow. Pause and setup the ground work. If your base is strong enough, things will all fall in place. So do the ground work and see that your preliminary investigation is right and the setup you have setup is based on facts not assumptions. 4. Absorb the problem first before judging or getting into&#160; the detail. Same as the big picture. Absorb the problem than spit out your judgment. Spend time understanding the problem. Don’t state your opinions. its better to test them. Leave the judging to the judges… you just carry on small tests and <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search?q=experiments" target="_blank">experiments</a> and draw conclusions from them.&#160; Test everything don’t assume. Bonus : Use bubble sort method to solve problems. From big to small. Eliminate from Big to small. More on this sometimes latter Well this were some of things that came to mind as I saw my friend at the office finally crack the debugging nut that he was given. He was pleased and I thing many of this approach we can use to solve many of our problems. All of this has helped me in my exams. Hope they will help you too. Don't get excited. Keep things calm. If the paper is good don't jump. Calmly begin answering. If questions seem to come out of mars don't panic and revolve your eyes in the examination hall. Be calm take deep breath and attempt the next question that you know. If you get stuck. Pause and then think hard. If this works, good if it doesn't, don't push yourself hard. Pause… leave some space and carry on with the next section or question... this usually does the trick for me. Down the line I used to get a hint of the question I was stuck and I came back to it. Keep a close watch on time but don't be too tight on it. Time not one question but take a more general approach. Instead of saying “I will answer 1 questions in 20 minutes!!” Define “I will cover 3 questions in an hour.” This works more than keeping a question wise timing. Some questions might take&#160; long while some less time but you should put 1 hr 3 questions as your time target. This enables you not to look at time very often. Lastly in all examination paper do keep last 30 mins for revision. its must!! How to revise. Put the answer sheet back. take the question paper read the questions you attempted and formulate point wise answers. After you covered all question check and optimise any of the answers you might have discovered while revising. Best of luck!!! Learn from the person who has the maximum potential… yes I have already talked about it…Its simple thermodynamics. If you consider yourself the sink then your source has to be someone who has much higher knowledge.. see heat always flows from hot to cold. Consider you are cold in terms of knowledge and then get the knowledge from a source that is burning hot.. Not from the guy who just cleared that particular test the previous semester. See he is just warm with the knowledge but your tutor is the one who has the maximum potential. I say this because during my days of <a href="http://my-aesi.blogspot.com/search/label/aesi" target="_blank">AeSI</a> I have seen people shunning Natrajan sir’s classes and going for classes of some bhaiya who just cleared his degree. That was absurd!!! And I realized that it wasn’t for any personal attention they got there. That bhaiya was also teach not one or two people but 40 AeSI guys and gals!! This is here I saw how people just gravitate….. I had my share of studying from one bhaiya but then too I kept my other door open and I was taking regular classes from my lecturer at GIE!! Bhaiyas maybe good but if you understand the fundamental thermodynamics then rest assured that you will soon reach equilibrium with someone who is just warm….. Study from someone red hot!! Don’t skip the actual teachers who have more knowledge more experience. In this points he states his view on why AMAeSI degree is not the right choice. My views are similar and if someone will ask me point blank &quot;If I were your brother, will you recommend this degree to me?&quot; My answer will be no. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of the degree, I have worked for it and have attained it and have told many times that aerospace engineers coming out of AeSI are the best Indian aerospace professionals that you will meet. Many more people have accentuated this fact, but then the way whole examination system and what Nilesh has rightly put&#160; &quot;Erratic question papers, puzzling evaluation and results &quot; I don't think i can recommend my brother or cousin to face that. I think new students who wish to join this course should know some facts and figures before they join this, unlike many of us who didn't knew anything at all. Major Disadvantages 1. It is not exactly like a regular BE degree in spite is has been given &quot;equivalent&quot; to BE status. This creates lot of problems. 2. Though the course is not &quot;correspondence&quot; officially it is neither a full time regular course. 3. No strategy on examinations, how many students to be passed or about the criteria for evaluation/grace markings. 4. No set up for Jobs to students. 5. Erratic question papers, puzzling evaluation and results add to its uselessness. 6. No guarantee of how many years you will need to do this degree. 7. Even after you pass out life is a struggle for first year at least. Now considering the Industry in India, and the job scene as well as admission scene at various engineering colleges/universities, getting job after a &quot;regular degree&quot; has become very easy. Many companies come on the campus and students are getting jobs in their third years. So , 1, If you are a good student then why do you wish to take the path which is not only difficult but uncertain where you could have a safe and successful career otherwise. 2. If you think you are not a good student, then beware, this isn't an easy course. Two main reasons i see many people take this course are a.) its cheap b.) Admission is very easy. If your main reason is above the two, rethink before you join the course. I do not mean to discourage students who are already doing or wish to join this course, but its always good to know facts how ever bitter they are. All the best, Nilesh. Campus jobs: There are around 27 states in India, so around the 50 technical universities/institutes with hundreds of Engineering colleges in each state. Just try to find how many colleges in your city offer campus placements. See if prestigious/popular and renowned colleges offer campus placement. So in short check whether you are in majority or minority? 2. Passing it in time: How many students clear this course in fours years every term?? Check out the stats.. during my time (batch) I know of only 1 person who did it in 4 years against around 1000 students who registered. So, does that mean all the 999 are incapable of doing AeSI?? and if so then the next question you should ask is are you in that one or 999 persons? 3. About AeSI administration: I don't need to say anything on this. It's worst admin of all I have seen till date. Besides, try contacting few companies/seniors to know how many companies/organizations accept this course as a BE course and give jobs to AeSI people. Anyway's, I am not here to benefit myself from anybody doing or not doing AeSI. I sincerely feel many people lack awareness and this are my two cents. Wish you guys all the best.
