Don't judge. Keep thinking and pushing yourself for the reason on what is going wrong. Think back to all exams and find the causes.

Once you have number of causes, you will definitely begin seeing a pattern emerging. Now is the judging time. Find the main reasons that you see now.

Is is the lack of your understanding of the subject? Or is it your lack of expressing it in the exams. Or is it a combination of both?

You can fail in the exams only for two reasons, either you lack understanding of the subject or the understanding is not expressed well in the exam papers.

Find the reason and implement steps in your study routine to eliminate it.

Hope this helps. Blog readers, do you have any other ideas, feel free to share them here.

A time table that you will adhere to and a timetable that will keep you sane and on track of your studies. I began my tracking and sticking to time table techniques in my class VII. This was the time I was introduced to this concept and I readily grabbed it.

The system was simple draft a time table and then stick with it throughout that year. Yes stick with it no matter what. No major changes and no deviations.

So how I did it? Making time table was easy I decided on the time that I had for each day of the week and month and then divided the time that I wanted to have for studies and then divided the study time among various subjects. My tuition teacher seeded my attitude regarding this and it was his influence that I became a regular study guy than the one who sat with books just before exams.

What are the things I took in account when I did this routine. I kept my schedule loose. I was not harsh and kept a minimum time limit for all subjects. It was lenient. I can skip a thing but I had the luxury to just put in 60 minutes in any particular subjects. I usually mixed writing subjects with reading subjects, science with history, math's with geography and so on so every time I didn't get bored even when I had to sit for studies for more than 3 hours.

What was the best thing that helped me succeed in this routine was the minimum time limit that I set and the commitment that whatever be the results of the task, I will stick with the time I have allotted. Sometimes I was just sitting there having the book in my hand and just reading only one paragraph. But I stayed there and maybe wondered in my dreams but never got up to pass the time. This helped me a lot and finally I was in mould with this so much that I never studied more than the required even during the exams.

Are you using a time table for your studies?

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

In fact this was what my Mathematics teacher in class X,XI and XII did when he gave us 3 problems to solve before he began his class. I learnt more from his revision technique than anything else. If you also want to employ it in your studies then read How to study mathematics.

Why taking a test is so successful? It not only keeps you informed about your progress but doing that helps your brain to stay away from the routine and it keeps your brain cells some exercises.

So take test as often as you can, close your books and take up a mental stock of the concepts you learnt. How they fit in your life? How can you explain them to your younger sibling?

The best question to see if you have really understand the concept of something then just answer yourself mentally how will you explain the concept to your grand mother?

I did this exercise a lot and many concepts that I explained through this mental exercise are still intact in my mind. Explain the working of gas turbine engine, What is FEM, explain oblique and normal shock waves, what is moment of inertia were some of the topics that I employed this trick.

So carry on this exercise next time, when you begin your study, take a simple test and mentally rehearse what you learnt in the particular subject the previous day!!!

This was one of the tricks that I employed? So without any delay, lets begin.

1. Whatever the result communicate it to anyone who cares. I have seen people in my days of AeSI hiding results from their parents, friends. That's counter productive as it puts you under more pressure. Pressure of lying. Many a times I got unexpected results but whatever it was I was truthful with it and communicated it to my parents. Yes they will sad angry and disappointed but my truth never gave them false assumption and my conscience was clear.

2. Analyze your results. Now a days you get marks along with the declaration of results and don't have to wait for mark sheet to arrive as we had to. So whatever be your marks. Take out the question paper and try to ascertain why you got those marks? How short are you from the highest. Yes it easy to blame the pattern and bad governance of AeSI but here you need to stop that and objectively access the things from your angle. Where you did wrong and where you did right. Refresh yourself of all the feeling that you had in the examination hall.

3. Last of all, after all the analysis take out 3 action steps that you learnt from the above exercise and implement them in your study routine for the next semester. Like when I did this exercise while in AeSI, i always got 2 or 3 tips to improve on my study technique.

So guys and gals these were some of things I did on getting my result. So what do you think? Do you do anything similar? Do share in the comments.

Love to receive this and similar tips in you inbox then subscribe.

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

Hang in there. Yes its frustrating, the examination and the results most of the time do not match. Sometimes questions that came are not meant for exams, Sometime 80% of the questions are coming form a single topic, or sometime the question requires a long explanation but has only tiny marks are allocated to it.

Sometimes the questions are just the repeat of the last semester questions. Sometimes its just the combination of 2 or 3 papers question picked and juggled and sometimes its entirely new in pattern and topics selected.

Studying does make you tackle all this but what is needed is the mental discipline, mental effort to see through the surprise.

Natrajan Sir once explained the best way to tackle this is to keep yourself prepared. expect to be surprised then only you won’t be surprised. One gets surprised only when he/she is too concentrated on the examination papers and shuns the syllabus book. So the best strategy is to begin with the syllabus book, then as you progress in your studies get question papers onboard.

Question papers are to give you a familiarity of the exams, they are there to check yourself on your preparation. Don’t fix too much on the question paper and the pattern, don’t study based on what question papers seem to suggest, study according to the syllabus book.

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

This are all tips from days in AeSI.

What I did? Well I didn't have myself the time. I was constantly doing something. Free time and thinking of what exams will be is more is sure shot way to have anxiety. So eliminate all free time. Do something if not studying read some magazine, talk over phone but keep you mind engaged in a meaningful purse. Think not of the stuff of what you want but of the stuff that you will do.

Give yourself a peg. Not of wine or something but of stuff that you will do after exams. That is every time you began to see your mind drifting on things not related to exams, say to your mind that you will thing about the thing after the exam.It worked in my case. while studying I remember that I had to something, so I wrote it down on a piece of paper with the heading things to do after exams. This freed my mind of the thing that was on my mind and helped me focus on the exam study.

To kill off anxiety this was the method that I used most. While I say my anxiety piping through me. I became physical. Yes move. Move out. Just sitting cases more. Get physical and you have high chances that anxiety will not grip you. take a walk to the nearest tea shop. chat with a buddy. just stroll down to the corner sweetshop. This small things not only expelled my anxiety but also boosted me for another round of study session.

Well those for some of my practical tips to drive away anxiety while preparing for examinations, do share yours.

related :

Learn from an expert.

advice from rolls royce

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

He was into it for the last 7 days and has finally got it completed. Here I present 4 things that I learnt from all this process.

1. Don't assume. Don’t assume what the problem is, state it test it and get to the bottom of it. Don’t assume, search for facts. if you have a theory test it than say it. Do more than you think. Think and test. Not think and think.

2. First capture the big picture then delve into the details. Details are important but before going into the the details get the frame ready. see the big picture. Move back and see the whole as a problem. Set your frame right. Determine your north and south then after you have verified that you are heading the right direction then you should fine tune and get into details.

3. Keep your methods right the results will follow. Have your tools ready. Learn and set up the processes rights results will follow. Pause and setup the ground work. If your base is strong enough, things will all fall in place. So do the ground work and see that your preliminary investigation is right and the setup you have setup is based on facts not assumptions.

4. Absorb the problem first before judging or getting into the detail. Same as the big picture. Absorb the problem than spit out your judgment. Spend time understanding the problem. Don’t state your opinions. its better to test them. Leave the judging to the judges… you just carry on small tests and experiments and draw conclusions from them. Test everything don’t assume.

Bonus : Use bubble sort method to solve problems. From big to small. Eliminate from Big to small. More on this sometimes latter

Well this were some of things that came to mind as I saw my friend at the office finally crack the debugging nut that he was given. He was pleased and I thing many of this approach we can use to solve many of our problems.

Related : Are you seeing the big picture?

For the exam students : How I cleared my Workshop technology exams?

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

All of this has helped me in my exams. Hope they will help you too.

Don't get excited. Keep things calm. If the paper is good don't jump. Calmly begin answering. If questions seem to come out of mars don't panic and revolve your eyes in the examination hall. Be calm take deep breath and attempt the next question that you know.

If you get stuck. Pause and then think hard. If this works, good if it doesn't, don't push yourself hard. Pause… leave some space and carry on with the next section or question... this usually does the trick for me. Down the line I used to get a hint of the question I was stuck and I came back to it.

Keep a close watch on time but don't be too tight on it. Time not one question but take a more general approach. Instead of saying “I will answer 1 questions in 20 minutes!!” Define “I will cover 3 questions in an hour.” This works more than keeping a question wise timing. Some questions might take long while some less time but you should put 1 hr 3 questions as your time target. This enables you not to look at time very often.

Lastly in all examination paper do keep last 30 mins for revision. its must!!

How to revise.

Put the answer sheet back. take the question paper read the questions you attempted and formulate point wise answers. After you covered all question check and optimise any of the answers you might have discovered while revising.

Best of luck!!!

More exams tips here

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

But it shouldn't be so. In my college days I have so many of my friends squint in the name of mathematics. some loved it absolutely while others just did it because it was part of the course.

For me mathematics has been a favorite subjects since standard 7. It was in this standard that I leant about the beauty of mathematics and the powerful technique of revision that I am going to share with you here.

I have to say that the greatest lesson that I had from my school days sir was about studying maths and about revising.

He made maths easy and as far as I can say he made us understand the importance of revision.

What was his technique? It was simple but elegant. Whenever he came to class, he went for the blackboard and scribbled some numbers like this

exercise 1 : prob 3
exercise 2 : prob 6
exercise 4 : prob 4, 6

and gave us ten minutes to solve the problems he listed on blackboard. So what was unique. He never began teaching us new topic before we had a practice of the what he has already taught us. He never minded if we cheated as he said, do it with open book but learn so you can apply it in exams and in life later.

How can one apply this concept for learning anything?
Maths has problems like this propulsion 2 is a good candidate as it contains lot of problems

so apply this simple method and i know you will excel in maths. I sure did !!

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

This techniques or tips are mixture of what i have learnt and experienced myself and what have my school tutor always told us.

Reach the exam center well ahead of time.
A 30 minutes before you are supposed to enter the exam hall can be your benchmark, but this you can decide according to your needs and situation, but ideally at least 30 minutes more is the optimum time to physcic yourself for the exams.

Don't compare yourself with others, specially just before exams.
Don't judge yourself with others. You are not reading or pouring over your books because you are not the other guy. Everyone is different and have their own personal style. You stick to yours. Don't follow the herd. If you like reading and running your eye on the important points so be it, do it and don't think of the other folks Or else if you prefer just to loiter.. suit yourself. Do what comes natural, forget what the next guy is doing.

Distract your mind.
If you are the other type. Take help from your mobile. get it out and play a game, challenge yourself with small challenge. Do anything thats not related to study. Remember cricketer use this technique and they relax by playing football. A game entirely different than the cricket. So use something. Figure out what suits you. Don't worry about the exams which are just minutes away. If you have studied well and your preparation is ok. Be assure your mind will give you results. If no mobile use something else, you aim is to keep your mind occupied in something else than studies or the exam.

In the examination hall.
Now you are in the examination hall, everyone is taking out there exams pen and are keeping there bag and stuff outside and getting to there seat. Now you are alone, you are not supposed to talk, the examiners are in the hall arranging their stuff. Take deep breadths, go through your plan for the question paper. Remember how will you proceed with the paper. Remain cool. just wait for the papers to be distributed.

Now you got the question paper
Don't begin as soon as you get the paper, read the questions before you get to attempt them. Once you have a cursory glance at the questions begin with the one you know. Keep track of the time but don't hurry. Setting time per question is not the way, set time by hour. 3 big questions in an hour is how i set my time in my exams days in AeSI.

Hope this tips and simple techniques will help you in your exams. Best of luck. and be sure to give in your ways of decompressing before exams in the comments !

View RSS feed

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

This should have never been allowed in first place. Also AeSI is under obligation from AICTE to switch over to AeSI new modified syllabus as soon as possible. In these circumstances it would be very difficult for anyone to help in this matter. Even in other universities examinations if you don't pass twice extra re sitting examination, you are asked to discontinue the course and no one can pass the blame on the University.
I would request you all to come with constructive means for growth of AeSI programme instead of meaningless criticism because it affects future of thousands of AeSI Students.
Kind regards

I quite agree with Bishnujee in this regard. Instead of pushing for this we should push forward the betterment of the examination and the assessment. Most of the times, the student is under the axe because of faulty and non transparent assessment of his exams. This was the major thing that I had faced in AeSi.

Sometimes I had this experience that I did well in the examination hall but the results and the mark sheets showed exactly the opposite trend. So major push should be in regards to betterment of the examinations, and its assessment. This will be the best thing that can happen to an existing student of AeSI.

But having said that, I do feel that people who have one subject left should be given a fair chance for the last time. And after that attempt, AeSI should go ahead with its new syllabus.

Grab "After-AeSI Career guide to AeSI" ebook free

Exams are nearing and everyone I hope is gearing up for them. Great, so I thought why not share a few things that I did during examination that eased mine anxiety.

Loud speaker: when it comes to reading, read out load this is much more effective than simply reading in mind. While reading in mind can distract you, but listening to your own voice reinforces what you read. I did this P3, wt and many other papers where theory was predominant

Walk: When you are writhing sitting is mandatory, but if you are reading and memorizing stuff, roam around in room or rooftop and you will find that you are recalling and retaining the stuff more easily. Moreover there’s is no chance you will fall asleep!!!

Dream : While going back to sleep, don't think about how exams will go or what the paper be like, instead apply the technique of reviewing what you have read the whole day, Try questioning the formulae and equations that you encountered that day. See then in your minds blackboard.

Mental rehearsal: Rehearse mentally. Mine favorite and it worked for me. They say that we learn more when we teach, so while lying in bed, imagine yourself in class and see in your minds board all things drawn that you have learnt on that particular day. Use vivid images, smell, and objects to reinforce the concepts. I studies propulsion so it was easy to imagine the compressor rotate and see the whole gas turbine engine work in mind. In your case use your imagination.

Talkback: some of the things that I remember most vividly of the study materials that I have studied are the ones that I have talked about with my friends and roommates, The topics that we discussed are still clear in mind. So use this technique to engrave a particular concept, topic in your mind. I am sure you will never forget a velocity triangle of a compressor once you have lively discussion on that.

Lots of breaks: Study without breaks is like no study at all. I remember an advert in one paper which claims that as our brain tiers; its capabilities diminish, so take frequent breaks. Well I don't know how true the claim was, but when I took breaks after a specified period of study, I was rejuvenated for sure. And put in longer hours. So take breaks often and when you again sit for a study session, set a target that you will get up after this particular task is done.

Teashop: While we were in Chennai, my roommates and we were famous for walking to a distant teashop for tea. Everyone used to wonder why we take such a long stroll for the tea? Some suspected a girl is involved, but none was true, we did it because it gave us the necessary exercise and after a long walk and talk about topics not related to study, we were refreshed. Tea was just an excuse. So take walking breaks. Go to that distance shop in group but be on time and come back and don’t get carried away in the masti.

Write: best way to practice a thing is to write it, my mom used to say that, and from the beginning I stuck with this and I always used to revise my stuff with a pencil and paper, I drew, explained and jotted important points as I revised. I was and am poor in spelling and this habit had improved a lot......

So here you are little tit bit of info that I used, some of them you might be using now, some might strike odd. But believe me they worked for me and I know they will work for you. Give them a try...

Best of luck worriers!!! Reach for the stars!!

Members please add your tips.
