The data that is used here are from <a href="https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/compare/upcloud_vs_vultr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">VPSBenchmarks</a> tests and runs.</p><h4><span id="Response_Times"><strong>Response Times</strong></span></h4><p>The cloud server response times measures the responsiveness of a website/server when it is put under load.</p><p>For this test, a database intensive application was used to put each setup on a load to determine the average response times of each server.</p><p>With regards to the response times, it is shocking that UpCloud performs at par with Vultr here! The response times difference between the two is not that significant however the response times of 1GB Vultr Plan is extremely poor. At the same price bracket of 5$ plan, UpCloud outperforms Vultr’s 5$ plan when it comes to response times. Upgrading the server specs reduced their differences however making their response times right just near of each other with difference of 3-10 milliseconds.</p><p>The data that is used here are from <a href="https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/compare/upcloud_vs_vultr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">VPSBenchmarks</a> tests and runs.</p><h4><span id="CPU_Performance"><strong>CPU Performance</strong></span></h4><p>The CPU performance measures the rate of operations that each server configuration is able to sustainably operate given a CPU stress load.</p><p>The higher operations per second the better as the CPU is able to process more operations and instructions at a time.</p><p>Again, looking at the CPU performance benchmarks between UpCloud and Vultr, UpCloud dominates the performance over price ratio as it performs much more operations per second when compared to Vultr plans.</p><p>The data that is used here are from <a href="https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/compare/upcloud_vs_vultr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">VPSBenchmarks</a> tests and runs.</p><h4><span id="Disk_IO_Performance"><strong>Disk I/O Performance</strong></span></h4><p>The Disk I/O performance tests the amount of system input and output operations that each cloud server plans is able to perform using the random read tests in MiB.</p><p>One of the main feature of UpCloud that it confidently compares with its competitor is the fastest disk I/O performance. They have called this MaxIOPS as their technology is able to surpass common average ssd speeds offered by Vultr, Digital Ocean, Linode, and is even being compared with Amazon and Google Cloud storage performances.</p><p>Looking at the results, it is indeed true what UpCloud claims that it obviously outperforms Vultr when it comes to Disk I/O performance. UpCloud shown up to 2x more transfer operations per second when compared to Vultr cloud instances.</p><p>Higher Disk I/O Performance is important especially when transferring files and media exchanges between users and the cloud instance. Having a live chat support which is lacking in Vultr and other companies like DO provides a good impression that the company is up for the competition. UpCloud also delivers unique features which I personally find useful such as adding additional hdd (lesser cost per hour) if you need a hefty amount of storage just for backups and less frequently accessed files. It offers more flexibility in setup, configuration and at the same time provides better performance/price ratio.</p><p>One thing that needs to be improved in UpCloud is the custom ISO upload feature. Uploading custom ISO’s in your instances in Vultr is as simple as pasting the ISO link and Vultr will automatically grab the ISO file and store it for you. UpCloud on the other hand, you’ll have to create a separate drive, download it using wget or a tool using command line, and then mount it on the system.</p><p>Also, cloning a server instance from one location to another needs to be improved in UpCloud. It took 2-4 hours to clone a 10$ server hosted in Singapore to US while in Vultr it took only around 30-1 hour tops.</p><p>However despite these additional feature flaws, what matters is the performance you get with the price you pay, reliability and support.</p><p>Vultr support system only relies on ticket submission while UpCloud gives you a free 24/7 support that you can contact anytime to help and assist you with your cloud instances.</p><p>Overall, UpCloud is a no-brainer the best Vultr alternative and if not also a good alternative for big cloud providers such as Digital Ocean, Linode, AWS, Google Cloud.</p><p>If you decide to give UpCloud a try, you can signup and get 25$ free credit for you to try the service. But inflation put a wrench in the chain and now we’ve gotta figure out how to get our groove back.</p><p>For the first time in a long time, investors are no longer willing to believe every story. “Everyone” believed in SPACs a year ago. The average one <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/spacs-are-warning-they-may-go-bust-11653601111">listed in 2021</a> is down 60%. “Everyone” believed that growth at any price was an acceptable way to invest. $10,000 invested in Peloton one year ago is worth $1,260.</p><p>Confidence is gone and it usually doesn’t reappear overnight. I happen to agree with <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/silicon-valley-investors-give-startups-survival-advice-for-downturn-11653822000?mod=e2tw">Lightspeed</a>, who recently wrote that “The boom times of the last decade are unambiguously over.”</p><p>Most people are now confident that confidence has left the building and isn’t coming back anytime soon. But it’s worth considering, what if everybody’s wrong? After the strongest week for stocks <a href="https://twitter.com/michaelbatnick/status/1530278896976941056">since November 2020</a>, the S&P 500 is just a 16% rip away from taking out new highs. As improbable as it sounds, there’s still plenty of “buy the dip” muscle memory from the past few years. One or two more weeks of rising prices, and we could be off to the races.</p><p>The narrative on the downside made a lot of sense; inflation isn’t going away, inventory is building up, the fed has to cool demand, AKA cause a recession, valuations are normalizing, etc. What stories will we tell if we race back to new highs?</p><p>I don’t see this happening without inflation materially cooling off. So, I guess we’ll say that “inflation really was transitory”. I guess we’ll say “remember when the ten year went <em>all</em> the way up to 3% and people thought the world was ending?” I guess we’ll say that “the consumer really was never more prepared for an economic slowdown.”</p><p>It could happen, but I don’t see it. I really don’t. Choose what speaks to you, and you will always have a space that looks luxurious to you. It can take you quite some time to correctly style the room and acquire the pieces that you want to see, but it will always be worth it in the long run.</p><h2><strong>Touch</strong></h2><p>Who would not want to be in an environment that feels amazing? You need to think carefully about the materials that you are using and how they feel to the touch. Even choosing something that you might not traditionally touch, such as a <a href="https://www.pennymorrison.com/collections/lampshades">pleated lampshade</a>, will add a fantastic level of texture that you will want to play off. It might be a factor that you do not notice, but it could be one of supreme importance. Are there loud traffic sounds that you will need to mitigate? Are there squeaky floorboards or pieces of furniture that you need to fix? In addition to thinking on how you can reduce sounds, you should also dedicate time to thinking about how you could add them in. A system of hidden surround sound speakers could create the perfect environment for a music lover to relax in – and home assistants can help to ensure that everything is activated on voice command.</p><h2><strong>Smell</strong></h2><p>Everyone wants to have a home that smells nice, that is a simple fact. Though you might not have pets or other factors that could disrupt a home’s scent, you still might not notice the presence of some odours if they creep up over time. Committing to opening windows and regular cleaning should help to dispel smells. Adding in bouquets of your favourite flowers, or a natural oil diffuser, could also help to eliminate smells to keep your home smelling beautiful.</p><p>A home should be a safe space, and that means that it should appeal to you and you alone. Think about some of the ways in which you can appeal to your senses. What would make them happiest? The wall coverings throughout the museum are gorgeous, are they silk? </strong></p><p><strong>A:</strong> Yes, they are indeed silk.</p><p><strong>Q. The ‘View of Delft’ is so beautiful, and I understood that it was a national treasure that never left the country. Can you talk about its place in the permanent collection?</strong></p><p><strong>A:</strong> Being one of the three Vermeers in our collection it is an artwork we treasure. Nonetheless, all three of them have been on loan to foreign museums several times and when they are home they are always on display in our museum.</p><p><strong>Q. Did Vermeer use mirrors to create the realism of his paintings as Teller hypothesizes?</strong></p><p><strong>A:</strong> There are differing opinions as to whether Vermeer used optical devices (mirror, camera obscura, or some other device) to create his compositions. Through technical examinations of Vermeer paintings happening in preparation for the 2023 exhibition, we hope to shed more light on this. Recent research on <em>Girl With a Pearl Earring</em> found no concrete evidence to suggest that he used such devices during painting; however, he might have been inspired by looking through a camera obscura prior to painting, which could explain the heightened contrast between light and dark overall, and slight ‘blurriness’ of certain details.</p><p><strong>Q. What do all the cracks in the <em>Girl With a Pearl Earring</em> tell us?</strong></p><p><strong>A:</strong> <em>Girl With a Pearl Earring</em> has developed cracks over time due to natural ageing and embrittlement of the paint, previous conservation treatment that used heat and/or moisture, as well as external forces (physical damage). I can see no downside to having him play ASAP and for the remainder of the season.</strong></p><p><strong>The Rockies are mediocre, at best, and boring to watch. (Manager) Bud Black’s optimism is getting old, as are the players’ excuses. Maybe Tovar can improve their abysmal defense and add the spark that the 5% of us true Rockies baseball knowledgeable fans deserve. The worst thing they could do is call Tovar up and not play him. He needs to mature by playing every day in the majors or languish playing in the minors. Wondering what you think of my opinion?</strong></p><p><em>— Jerry, Parker </em></p><p>Jerry, I’m eager to see Tovar play in the majors because I believe he has a legitimate chance to be a special player. That was made clear to me by several people I interviewed in <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2022/06/05/ezequiel-tovar-rockies-shortstop-prospect-close-to-major-leagues/">my Sunday profile on Tovar. </a> And I agree with you that this team lacks pizzaz.</p><p>However, I talked to several people, including former Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, about the advantages and disadvantages of calling up a 20-year-old shortstop to the majors direct from Double-A.</p><p>Essentially, “Tulo” told me that it takes a special player to make that leap. He was talking about a player’s self-confidence, work ethic, and passion, more than he was talking about baseball talent. Tulo also said it takes the right clubhouse to support a young player. Tulo said he didn’t think the Rockies have that “right clubhouse,” at least not right now. He added that unless the circumstances are just right, calling up a young player is “playing with fire.”</p><p>I also talked to some other former Rockies players who follow the team closely. One of them was adamant that calling up Tovar this season would be a big mistake, adding that the Rockies should allow Tovar to thrive at Double-A Hartford and not move him to Triple-A Albuquerque or the majors right now. The environment at Triple-A can be counterproductive for young players.</p><p>Here’s my opinion: If Tovar continues to play great baseball at Double-A, the Rockies should look to trade Jose Iglesias sooner rather than later in exchange for prospects. The Rockies can use Garrett Hampson at shortstop and also call up Alan Trejo.</p><p>Then, in late August, they should call up Tovar and allow him to get some major-league experience, much like Tulowitzki did at the end of 2006. From everything I’ve been told, Tovar has the right stuff to deal with the adversity that will surely come.</p><aside class="related right"/><p><strong>Patrick, throughout the league we are seeing more and more young, talented prospects getting their opportunity for full-time major-league duty. At what point this season do the Rockies maybe trade away some veterans or open up some roster space to start promoting some of the youth in the farm system?</strong></p><p><em>— Conor, Broomfield</em></p><p>Conor, I touched on this a little bit in my response to the previous question. I believe that the Rockies will attempt to move outfielder Randal Grichuk and shortstop Jose Iglesias, and possibly even C.J. Cron before the trade deadline. It’s time to admit that this team is not close to being a playoff contender, even if Kris Bryant returns from injury.</p><p>The Rockies are not going anywhere this season, so why not test the waters?</p><p>Keep in mind, however, that most of Colorado’s very best prospects are not close to being ready for the majors yet. I’m talking about outfielders Zac Veen and Benny Montgomery, and catcher Drew Romo.</p><p>However, outfielder Ryan Vilade should be called up soon. Corner infielder Elehuris Montero, who already made his major-league debut earlier this season, was called up to the big-league club on Tuesday. I also think it’s time to get a look at first baseman Michael Toglia in the majors this season.</p><p><em>We have two related questions about the Rockies’ bullpen. </em></p><p><strong>Looking at the Rockies’ record, they have lost at least 10 games because of poor relief pitching. They gave Kris Bryant way over $100 million and he has provided nothing positive. Why did they not spend this money on good relief pitchers? It would seem this should have been an easy decision.</strong></p><p><em>— Tim Eitel, Orlando, Fla.</em></p><p><strong>The Rockies’ bullpen is getting hammered. Late blowout innings doom the team to a poor National League West finish. What is management doing to get Buddy (Black) decent bullpen pitchers to finish out games?</strong></p><p><em>— Scott, Franktown</em></p><p>Guys, outside of closer Daniel Bard and set-up right-handers Tyler Kinley and Alex Colome, the Rockies bullpen is extremely erratic. But that’s not news to you, I know.</p><p>Spending a lot of money on relievers is not because many relievers are notoriously volatile from season to season, and that’s especially true in Colorado.</p><p>You need to remember that after the 2017 season, coming off their first postseason appearance in eight years, the Rockies decided to spend big on relievers Wade Davis, Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee. Former general manager Jeff Bridich signed them all to three-year deals — Davis, $52 million; Shaw, $27 million; and McGee, re-signed for $27 million. That was a total of $106 million.</p><p>“The aggressiveness in the bullpen, especially this offseason, fits with a grander plan about our pitching, just adding the level of talent, the level of impact, and trying to do so in waves — not just one guy here, one guy there,” Bridich said at the time.</p><p>It was a bold move but it didn’t work.</p><p>As for the rest of this season, I doubt the Rockies will do much to give Black to work with. We’re going to see a lot of bullpen blowups. Some pitchers will learn from their failures, others won’t.</p><p>In the future, if the Rockies are contenders, it would make sense to sign one solid free-agent reliever in the offseason, attempt to develop other bullpen arms, and then make a midseason trade for a veteran reliever if it’s warranted.</p><p><strong>Patrick, we have three pro teams — Nuggets, Avalanche and Broncos — who are all in the conversation for a championship. At the very least, they are competitive (the Broncos on paper for now) and are making moves in the right direction. What do the Rockies have to do to get into this conversation?</strong></p><p><em>— Miles, Parker</em></p><p>Miles, if I had a great answer for that, I would be getting paid big bucks by a major-league team. But I’ll give you my opinions.</p><p>Step one: Admit that the team is farther away from contention than owner Dick Monfort and GM Bill Schmidt have said, at least publically.</p><p>Step two: Don’t spend for big-money players like outfielder Kris Bryant unless there is enough talent on the team to be a legitimate playoff contender. The Rockies wanted Bryant for his box-office star power but that’s not working out.</p><p>Step three: Bring in some front-office people from outside the organization and give them some power. That would bring some fresh perspective to the organization.</p><p>Step four: Don’t fall in love with players to the extent that it hurts the team over the long term. If the team is not close to contention and other teams make a solid offer for a star player toward the end of his contract, be willing to listen.
