The number one reason why I think you should go to brunch is that there are so many different choices. You could have waffles, pancakes, bacon, a sandwich, or a breakfast burrito. Plus, you’ll be full for most of the day.
The Elgin area has great spots that offer terrific brunch options! I’ve personally tried <a href="http://www.benedictseggs.com/">Benedict’s Eggs and More</a> for brunch. I tried their California Club Panini with fresh fruit. It hit the spot. Between the three of us that stopped by for brunch we ordered the soup of the day, fruit, a panini, an omelet, and a fruit crepe. All were a variety of options that left us feeling full.
Look at the list below for the place that is nearest to you or that offers the most appetizing menu for you. For instance, Sweet Berry Cafe offers a gluten free menu and the Measuring Cup is known for its breakfast pizzas.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[I headed over to the <a href="http://www.martiniroomelgin.com/">Martini Room</a> last week for Wednesday Flight Nights. I’ve heard so much about them from other employees and friends that I knew I had to try it. To give you background, Flight Nights are when the Martini Room gives you 5 mini-martinis of various interesting flavors for you to try – all for $13. Each month they have 5 new flavors to try, so you’ll never get bored.
The flavors they had for November were anything but boring. The 5 flavors were Viva La Cake, Passionista, Strawberry Rhubarb, Cinnamon Roll, and Her Majesty. The bartender sets up the mini-martini glasses with descriptions of each drink and makes the martinis right in front of you. That was my favorite part, next to trying these delicious drinks. Also, the bartender, my friend and I had was very nice and open to answering any of our questions about the drinks or events going on at the Martini Room. It made the experience that much more enjoyable.

Now on to the drinks – which I know you want to hear about. Well my favorite drink was the Passionista. It was very fruity with both a watermelon and pineapple taste. I like smooth drinks that are a little fruity, so this was right up my alley. The Cinnamon Roll was probably my second favorite. It had a taste of butterscotch with Rum Chata that tasted so similar to a iced cinnamon coffee drink, but of course with a little bit of alcohol. Viva La Cake was a thicker drink, like the Cinnamon Roll. The bartender put on sprinkles and whipped cream on top of the drink and told us to try that one last because it was the best. It did not disappoint. You could taste the white chocolate and whipped cream – from the actual whipped cream and the creme liqueur. Surprisingly, there wasn’t a powerful taste. It went down smooth and was a great mixture of flavors. Strawberry Rubarb was a little thicker than the other drinks, but I still enjoyed the sweet and tart combination, thankfully it was a little on the sweeter side – which is what I enjoy. Lastly, Her Majesty had an interesting blend of new flavors I had never tasted before. The most surprising one was lavender. I enjoyed the lime flavor and gin mixed in with the lavender. It opened up your senses from the first sip.
The <a href="http://www.martiniroomelgin.com/">Martini Room</a> has a great reputation around the area for making the best martinis. In my opinion, they craft the most interesting flavors that give you the right amount of sweetness and alcohol. That weekend I went out with the <a href="http://elginyoungprofessionals.com/">Elgin Young Professionals Network</a> to Martini Room and I tried another great martini. We went out to support Tish Powell with her fundraiser at the Martini Room where you could by a special martini named “Tish-tini” to support the cause she was advocating for. While we were there, I tried the Guava. Again, it was my specialty of a fruity drink – and it was really good. I felt like it was a drink I could sip by the pool for a weekend getaway.

Lastly, I want to mention the setup of the bar. They have seats where you can sit up at the bar and also sections of couches for lounging in groups. There is also a set of couches and high top tables in the very back that is slightly raised on a platform. On Friday night when the <a href="http://elginyoungprofessionals.com/">Elgin Young Professionals Network</a> went to the Martini Room, it was a packed crowd and you could tell that the setup created a great atmosphere. I enjoyed the artwork on the walls as well. I hear that they rotate out the artwork, so just like the Flight Nights when you have something new to taste every month, you also have something new to look at as well.
Overall, I give the Martini Room a thumbs up.

Hello to all of my readers! It’s going to be a fantastic (and cold) weekend. I hope you and your little trick-or-treaters stay warm and safe! My six-year old will be marching around as a king in the Northeast part of Elgin on Halloween. It is always a great time and brings to mind so many wonderful memories.
Oh, and almost forgot…Don’t forget to fall back on Saturday night because Daylight Saving time beings (i.e., turn your clocks back one hour). Will someone please tell me when that will actually mean more rest for us parents?

On October 25th, many of our local businesses will be open during the festival, so be sure to drop in — in costume, of course! Don’t worry; you’ll be safe!
The city will be boarded up for the upmost zombie protection, but we know even in a post-apocalyptic world, everybody needs a good slice of pizza and a cold beer. There will be food vendors from all around the city providing our hungry guests with tamales, sausage, hot dogs, pulled pork, grilled cheese, tacos, a pig roast and of course, pizza from Elgin’s own <a href="http://www.dannyspizzaelgin.com/">Danny’s Pizza</a>.
You can satisfy your Halloween sweet tooth with cupcakes and funnel cakes from local bakeries, and wash it down with a martini from <a href="http://www.martiniroomelgin.com/">Martini Room</a>, beer from <a href="http://www.elginpublichouse.com/">Elgin Public House</a>, cocktail from <a href="http://www.medusachicago.com/">Medusa</a>’s and wine from <a href="http://www.downtownelgin.com/">Downtown Neighborhood Association</a>.
They’ve prepared all sorts of food and desserts to satisfy everyone’s stomach at this great event that keeps on adding more great attractions. There’s no excuse not to come now!

In past years, this event has transformed parts of downtown Elgin into an extravagant, scary place. No fear, there is a place of refuge for those of us who are scared by the slightest move. It’s called the “safe zone”.
This year, the “safe zone” will be home to live music from the Rocking Dead, Stache, DJ Joe Vourteq and Bone Whiskey — a streampunk/country band. Dupage Court will bring a new spin to the party with 16 DJs on rotation, break dancers and graffiti artists.
With an expected turnout upwards of 10,000 people, the anticipation is building this year to be the biggest to date. As you can see, there have been many upgrades to this already fantastic event. They have worked hard to add something for everyone to enjoy. The safe zone is where I’ll be at with my college friends who love to dance.
When is the event happening? It will be on Saturday, October 25th.
