In a surprising turn of events, Ryan Garcia came in 3.2 pounds (1.45kg) over the super lightweight limit for his upcoming world title fight against undefeated Devin Haney. This adds to the drama of an already contentious buildup to the anticipated match.
At the ceremonial weigh-ins, after failing to make weight, Garcia was seen chugging a beer on stage. However, he later claimed it was just apple juice and sparkling water. Taking to social media, Garcia hinted that missing weight might have been intentional, saying, “I feel great and I got a 3-pound advantage. Winners do what they have to do; I’m still sharp.”
Despite the weight miss and the controversy, last-minute negotiations have ensured that the fight will still proceed. However, Haney’s WBC world title belt will not be on the line. If Garcia loses, the belt will remain vacant.
In the lead-up to the weigh-ins, Haney had been taunting Garcia about his weight, predicting that Garcia would fail to make the limit. Garcia, who had previously fought Oscar Duarte at 143 pounds despite a 140-pound limit, accepted a deal proposed by Haney at the final press conference. He agreed to pay $500,000 USD for every pound he was over the weight limit. Haney confirmed that Garcia has honored the deal, amounting to $1.5 million ($2.34m AUD).
Golden Boy Promotions released a statement confirming the fight’s continuation, stating, “We have a fight.” Haney also acknowledged the payment, tweeting, “Ryan honored the 500k per pound.”
Addressing the crowd, Garcia expressed his efforts to make weight, saying, “I did my best to make this weight. I put myself through hell.” Despite receiving boos from the audience, Garcia remarked, “I had to give up $1.5 million, but that’s light work for me.”
As part of the last-minute negotiations, Garcia will also forfeit an undisclosed portion of his purse to Haney.
The buildup to this fight has been marred by Garcia’s unusual behavior, raising concerns about his mental well-being and sparking calls for the fight’s cancellation, even from his own family.

St Helens bounced back in style after their Challenge Cup exit, delivering a commanding 58-0 victory over Hull FC in a one-sided Super League encounter.
St Helens wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Tommy Makinson crossing the line early on, followed by Jonny Lomax extending the lead. Waqa Blake and James Bell also contributed to the onslaught, leaving Hull FC struggling to keep pace.
Joe Batchelor added to Hull’s misery with a try shortly after the break, setting the stage for Mark Percival, Konrad Hurrell, and Curtis Sironen to further widen the gap. Blake’s second try pushed St Helens past the 50-point mark, with Jack Welsby sealing the victory with a 10th try.
With this win, St Helens climb to the top of a closely-contested table, narrowly edging out Wigan and Catalans on points difference.

 The diesel price is poised to rise by one baht to 31.44 baht per liter starting tomorrow, unless the Fuel Fund Executive Committee opts to absorb the increase, either partially or entirely.
During its Tuesday meeting, the cabinet decided against extending the one baht per liter excise tax reduction for diesel, which is set to expire today. Consequently, the diesel pump price will automatically increase by one baht per liter at midnight.
Sources within the cabinet indicate that the Fuel Fund Executive Committee has yet to determine whether to fully or partially absorb the price hike, as both options would impact the Oil Fuel Fund, already operating with a deficit of 103.6 billion baht.
Should the committee choose to absorb the increase, either fully or partially, in a bid to alleviate consumer burdens, the measure would only be temporary.
The one-baht excise tax reduction on diesel, implemented since February 18th, 2022, has resulted in approximately 178 billion baht in lost revenues for the Finance Ministry.
Despite this, the Energy Ministry has been advocating for the Finance Ministry to extend the excise tax reduction or allocate funds from the Central Fund to subsidize diesel prices.

On Friday morning, tragedy struck in Chaiya district of a southern province when a 49-year-old Polish man leapt from a cellular tower, resulting in his demise.
Upon receiving reports of a distressed individual climbing the tower near Highway 41, approximately 100 meters from the Chaiya intersection in tambon Wiang, police and rescue teams swiftly responded. Pol Capt Danai Chanklan, deputy investigation chief at the Chaiya police station, received the alert around 10 am.
Upon arrival, authorities found the shirtless man perched cross-legged near the tower’s summit. Despite efforts from police, rescue personnel, and concerned locals to coax him down, the man remained resolute, giving no indication of descending. Air cushions were readied below as a precaution.
Despite pleas for over two hours and the intervention of monks from the Suan Mokkh International Hermitage and language instructors, the man tragically jumped roughly 20 meters to the ground, amidst horrified onlookers.
Authorities have chosen not to disclose the man’s identity pending notification of his next of kin.
A subsequent police inquiry revealed that the Polish man had been engaged in meditation at the hermitage for approximately three days before his mental state deteriorated. Brandishing a wooden baton, he breached a local property’s perimeter before scaling the adjacent tower.
His remains were transported to Surat Thani Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while police initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.

 Police reported on Friday that two individuals are now in custody following a burglary in Chiang Mai, where they allegedly stole cash and valuables totaling over 76 million baht. The suspects, identified as Pudit, 39, and Adisak, 45, were apprehended on Thursday afternoon with a quantity of jewelry and 37 million baht in cash.
The burglary occurred on the night of April 11 at a high-end residence within a gated community in tambon Mae Hia of Muang district. The homeowners reported a loss of 38.7 million baht in cash, along with 300 gold-plated Buddha amulets valued at 35 million baht, and gold worth one million baht.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had utilized some of the stolen cash to purchase a vehicle. They confessed to having a longstanding acquaintance with the homeowner, spanning over a decade through their involvement in construction and real estate. While the victim worked as a contractor, the suspects were associated with a door latch company.
The motive behind the burglary stemmed from a purported dispute over delayed payments for services rendered over the past two years. Allegedly seeking retribution, they accessed the victim’s residence by tampering with the door locks while he was absent.
According to police reports, the suspects retained only the cash, discarding the gold and amulets in a garbage bag, later disposed of among roadside trash.

Just over eight years ago, Boston Dynamics introduced the world to the robot Atlas, sparking a collective wave of astonishment. However, nearly a decade later, the humanoid, which had been mastering tasks ranging from walking like a toddler to executing impressive parkour moves, has retired.
Yet, rather than collectively exhaling in relief, the unveiling of the machine’s successor is prompting awe. The new Atlas is younger, smarter, and significantly more flexible, as showcased in the accompanying video, making it a rather intimidating sight.
Before bidding farewell to the old Atlas, its creators decided to have one last bit of fun, releasing a farewell video showcasing some of its memorable mishaps – including an unexpected hydraulic fluid release mistakenly interpreted as a fart. However, akin to humans, Atlas I learned from its missteps, gradually refining its balance recovery techniques and footwork over time.

The new Atlas operates entirely on electric power and boasts, in the words of its creators, “an advanced control system and state-of-the-art hardware” that endows it with remarkable power and balance, enabling demonstrations of advanced athleticism and agility.
The creators further elaborated, stating, “We use Atlas to explore the potential of the humanoid form factor, harnessing the robot’s entire body to move with grace, speed, and dexterity. Atlas exemplifies our endeavors to develop the next generation of robots possessing the mobility, perception, and intelligence requisite for integration into our daily lives.”
Throughout its evolution, Atlas has continually amazed audiences. From footage in November 2017 depicting the robot effortlessly leaping onto boxes and executing a backflip to videos released in May 2018 showcasing Atlas running on grass and hurdling over obstacles, the robot has consistently showcased its capabilities.
In October of the same year, Atlas impressed further by navigating around while jumping over obstacles. Then, nearly 12 months later, in September 2019, it truly wowed spectators with its adept parkour skills.

As a delightful Christmas surprise, Boston Dynamics treated viewers to a video featuring Atlas and its companions dancing to ‘Do You Love Me?’ In August 2021, another video highlighted a pair of Atlas robots executing a parkour run, with the blooper reel being a particular highlight of the presentation.

The son of a deputy minister faced legal consequences, receiving a suspended jail term, a six-month suspension of his driver’s license, a 12-hour community service order, and a 4,000 baht fine after being convicted of drunk driving.
The individual, whose identity remained undisclosed by the authorities, was apprehended for suspected drunk driving after evading a police checkpoint on Bangkok’s Ratchadapisek Road and colliding his BMW into a road barrier during the early hours of the morning.
Around 3:30 am, officers stationed at a checkpoint on Ratchadapisek Soi 31 signaled for a BMW to pull over for inspection. However, the driver declined to stop, resulting in his vehicle crashing into the barrier, leading to his arrest.
Upon request for a breathalyzer test, the driver refused cooperation. Consequently, law enforcement employed an alternative device, yielding a blood-alcohol level of 183mg per 100mL.
The 46-year-old suspect was transported to Prachachuen police station for interrogation but contested the charges, alleging unauthorized arrest and theft of belongings by the police.
Pol Col Sanya Ubonwirattana, the superintendent of Prachachuen police, mentioned that after sobering up, the driver confessed to the charges and was subsequently released on bail.
Later in the morning, the driver appeared in Bangkok North District Court, where he was found guilty of drunk driving. He received a two-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, along with the aforementioned penalties.

During this year’s Songkran period, 287 individuals lost their lives and 2,060 sustained injuries in 2,044 road incidents, as disclosed by Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at a press briefing today. Among these, 28 fatalities and 287 injuries occurred yesterday alone.
Anutin highlighted speeding as the primary cause of these accidents, closely followed by drunk driving and reckless lane changes. Despite a decrease in casualties compared to last year, there was a slight uptick in the total number of accidents.
Motorcycles featured prominently in the accidents, with a significant portion of the victims failing to wear helmets.
Anutin announced that the road safety command center has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive analysis of accident data to formulate recommendations for presentation to the cabinet.
