Maybe it was your grandfather. Your aunt. Your mother, your brother, your buddy. Yourself. Whoever you are, wherever and however you served, we give you a big Veterans Day *thank you.* A million times over. Today, and every day. Mini-history lesson. Ninety-seven years ago, an armistice ended World War I, which was then the greatest conflict the world had ever seen. It became Veterans Day in the 1950s, and the day now commemorates the spirit of all U.S. military members. Real stories. A Marine who lost his hands in Afghanistan shoots a custom rifle. An enduring hero from the battle of Iwo Jima. President Obama's simple message. Are you a veteran? Don't overlook all these freebies.
Billionaire industrialists: They're just like us!

You know, in that way that we're unlikely to back a candidate in a crowded Republican presidential primary. In that way. Billionaire industrialist Charles Koch tells USA TODAY he doesn't have a GOP fave yet, the latest sign that one of the most influential figures in conservative politics seems less than enthusiastic
about his choices. So what does he want to hear from the GOP
contenders? “It’s not only what they say,” Koch said. “If they start
saying things we think are beneficial overall and will change the
trajectory of the country, then that would be good, but we have to
believe also they’ll follow through on it, and by and large, candidates
don’t do that.” D'oh! Reporter Fredreka Schouten's interview
with Koch covered not just politics, but also his management theories
and what he views as increasing threats to free speech at universities. Read the whole thing here.
Earth has a really hot new neighbor

Scientists have spotted a new planet
that’s both a dead ringer for our own and resides just around the
cosmic corner from our part of the galaxy — only 39 light-years away, or
230 trillion miles away. (That's really not that far in the
unfathomable big picture of the universe.) Dubbed GJ 1132b, it's
slightly wider and more massive than Earth, and its composition is
similar to Earth’s — but it's hot. Really hot. The coolest part of its
atmosphere measures a scorching 450 to 500 degrees, so it's probably too
toasty to support life.
'Who knew meth could bring us to the Smithsonian?'

It's a question Jesse Pinkman would ask — and actor Aaron Paul did ask. But it's not just any meth. It's two baggies of Walter White's signature baby-blue, highly potent — and totally fake — crystal methamphetamine that's among the many Breaking Bad props donated to the Smithsonian for an exhibit scheduled for 2018. The show's cast, including stars Bryan Cranston and Paul, joined creator Vince Gilligan in Washington to hand over the goods Tuesday. Among the donated items: a cup from Los Pollos Hermanos, Hank Schrader's DEA badge, two hazmat suits and, of course, the black hat that transformed mild-mannered Walter White into the fearsome Heisenberg — "the one who knocks."

Once again, a hashtag effectively echoes a nation's collective sentiment: #ItsJustACup, people

#MerryChristmasStarbucks, another hashtag is emerging
in your cup controversy, and it's in support of your all-red holiday
cups that have some folks' stockings in a bunch. Tweets using
#ItsJustACup point out there are other, bigger issues people should be
focusing on — you know, like cancer and world hunger — and maybe, just
maybe, a red cup doesn't have anything to do with the celebration of the
birth of Jesus Christ. Meanwhile, as the Starbucks drama brews, Dunkin Donuts has been busy decking the halls, so to speak, and unveiled its red and green holiday cup that's joyfully a little Christmasy. Coincidence? We think not.

If you only read one thing tonight: Federal drug agents have built a massive wiretapping operation
in the Los Angeles suburbs, secretly intercepting tens of thousands of
Americans’ phone calls and text messages to monitor drug traffickers
across the U.S. — despite objections from Justice Department lawyers who
fear the practice may not be legal.
Have you seen it? This man's beard is so lush that he turned it into a birdcage. (The unspoken "why" just lingers in the air, right?)
Facebook has launched yet another app called Notify.
You can choose from a list of "stations" and then notifications pop up
on your phone's lock screen, where you can swipe to save a notification

We all need a little distraction at some point during the day (what else are smartphones for?), so add DISTRACTME on the YO app. It'll be fun, we promise.

When I finished Fallout 3, the game left me with one desire: please let there be another installment soon.

Fallout New Vegas tried to fill the need, but opinions among Fallout fans were split. Some loved "West Coast Fallout,"
replete with motorcycle gangs, delusional wannabe Romans, and one
super-depressed kid named Boxcars. Others hoped for something more
evolutionary, something that didn't just add to the Fallout universe but deeply improved upon it. For that sort of game, fans had to wait for Fallout 4. So we waited... for more than half a decade. And the wait was indeed worth it.

We've already run our review of the new game, but I wanted to offer a slightly different perspective: how Fallout 4 feels to someone who is deeply invested in the Fallout universe. That is, how it feels to a Fallout fanboy—which I'm proud to be. As such, I will look at the game only as it relates to Fallout 3 and to New Vegas, with no regard for how it stacks up to other titles in the RPG genre.

Bottom line: if you did not like Fallout 3, you are not going to like Fallout 4. The two games are built around the Fallout
pillars of random wasteland events, wild side quests, challenging
character development, and a wide-open post-nuclear apocalyptic world.
But if you're a Fallout series fan, it's time to clear some serious space on your calendar.

A winner

Fallout 4 looks and plays significantly better than Fallout 3, which is not a knock on Fallout 3 (now seven years old). Playing on the Xbox One, I tested Fallout 4 on both a 48-inch HD Samsung TV (five years old) and a 78-inch 4K Samsung TV (brand new).

Pacing and plotting issues hamper the best content in this incredibly huge quest.

Performance is better than Fallout 3 was at its release, but Fallout 4
is not without its glitches, particularly in the clipping department. I
was saved from being totally annihilated by a Sentry Bot simply because
it got stuck on a rock and I ran away. Once, I got stuck in a pile of car parts while in Power Armor. I couldn't get out. Autosave to the rescue.

The overall environment looks terrific. Downtown Boston is more
colorful than the Capitol Wasteland, and its outskirts have more
foliage. The environment exhibits changing weather, from storms to
fallout to fog. The visual glitches that pop up don't bother me much, in
part because I expect they will be fixed quickly. As for what won't be
changed, yes, some of the scenery is bland and some of it is repetitive.
But I think that's an acceptable trade-off. I can't think of any game
this packed with content that doesn't reuse textures and buildings to
some degree, and I'd rather have 100+ hours of repeatable gameplay than a
world constrained by new art.

The world of Fallout 4 is massive compared to Fallout 3, and Fallout 3
was breathtaking in its expanse. I've read reviews that say that the
new graphics are unacceptable, but I can't agree. The graphics could be better, sure, but nothing about the game's visual design has diminished my enjoyment.

As for the story, I think it's great. It didn't take me long to
get invested in my character and my quests—probably two hours. I
certainly did find it difficult to stay on one course because I was
constantly running off one direction or another to check out a weird
playground, an abandoned house, a cave, a really loud explosion, or
whatever other strange phenomenon the game would throw my way. But the
overwhelming variety of subquests and distractions is simply part of the
series' appeal.

As the game evolves, you will meet different factions, and those factions are frankly a little more interesting than those from Fallout 3
(with the possible exception of the vampires, which were awesome). The
factions also load you up with things to do, so there's rarely a dull
moment that Fast Travel can't solve by taking you someplace else.

There are a few enhancements worth noting. In Fallout, you
are essentially a scavenger. You open lockers, boxes, and the pockets of
dead people. In the past, searching would open a transfer UI; you'd
select what you wanted and then hit "exit" (B on the Xbox) to back out.
At minimum, you had two button presses to look and then exit, and then
another set of presses if you wanted to take anything. In Fallout 4,
you merely point your reticule over a dead body or a file cabinet and
the UI reveals its contents. You can take it all quickly (push X) and
move on, or you can pick through it (push A). This is a huge time saver,
effectively eliminating two button presses on everything you look into.
In Fallout, that should be nearly everything.

While the first-person action is better this time around, my
scav-minded self was mostly in ammo-conservation mode, preferring to use
V.A.T.S. Thankfully, V.A.T.S. no longer stops time. Instead, you enter
slow-motion, something akin to "Bullet Time." This removes a real crutch
(stopping time to shoot), while at the same time making V.A.T.S. more
enjoyable to use. You can watch a shot develop (wait until the raider
foolishly lifts his head), or you can watch a pack of feral ghouls bear
down on you even in slow motion, thereby increasing the panic of the
ghoul rush.
Where V.A.T.S. might have saved you in the past by giving you a ton
of time to calculate your move, now it might not be enough. (It's worth
noting that popping up your Pip-Boy does still stop time, but now
boosters like eating, using stimpacks, etc., do not take instant effect.
Their application will come after you exit the Pip-Boy.)

Another quick point about V.A.T.S.: luck is now useful to cultivate,
as you can choose when to apply a critical hit while in V.A.T.S. It's a
nice touch that can save your hide.

The D-Pad also sports a deeper favorite items system, allowing you to
store multiple items in each direction. I found this extremely useful; I
used "Right" for handguns, "Left" for rifles (with the sniper rifle far
left), and "Up" for close-quarter weapons. I then stashed my aids in
the "Down" menu and found that I simply didn't need to get into the
Pip-Boy as often. These tweaks make the game that much more viable as a
first-person shooter.

The new SPECIAL system is also an improvement. Our official review
saw it as confusing and unnecessarily complex, but I actually feel that
it is simplified from previous incarnations. And while you do have fewer
points to spend at each level (one instead of two, usually), I think
this ultimately adds up to a better experience. In Fallout 3, it
was often the case that you would just pick the best perks from
the small handful that had been unlocked. You had to wait for level
increases and other boosts before other perks were even available to
ponder. This new system provides a lot more flexibility in character
development, allowing you to see all of the options and the effects,
even letting you to put extra points into the perks. When I first played
Fallout 3, I remember being confused about how I should
develop my character. Now I can look at the new, illuminating visual
presentation of SPECIAL and perks and easily chart where I want to go
next.

Then there's the soundtrack, something that's sacred to most Fallout fans. The soundtrack has gone in a direction that I really appreciate. While New Vegas took the soundtrack to a very Western/country/cowboy theme, with Fallout 4, we are back in a world filled with GNN, Billy Holiday, Danny Kane, and most of the classics from Fallout 3.
There are plenty of new songs, too, but there's just something amazing
about being in an irradiated cave jamming, "Bongo, bongo, bongo, I don't
wanna leave the Congo..." Some of the songs created just for Fallout 4 are pretty funny.

Also humorous is the hilarious stuff raiders talk about when
chatting with one another: substance abuse, significant others, fear of
fire, and so on. The game is again replete with great writing,
particularly when you're checking out the logs on various terminal
screens. Holotape audio recordings are more interesting now, too.

The game isn't without issues. Much has been written online,
including here at Ars, about poor facial animations and the like. These
have never been a strong point of any Fallout title, and they
are certainly a weaker point of this game. That said, it feels to me
more like a minor issue than anything fans of the series will find
off-putting.

Here's my take: if you are a fan of the Fallout series,
particularly in its modern incarnations, you are going to be a fan of
this game. The graphics are better, the user interface is
smartly improved, combat feels tighter, crafting is both easier and more
meaningful, and the quota of wacky side quests and events has
definitely been increased.

This is the kind of game that you live with, that you make a part of
your life for a very long time. It's a game in which you are totally
free to jump between quests, to go off on bizarre expeditions that at
first seem meaningless, or to spend some time just tightening up your
settlement. In the week I've had my copy, it keeps calling to me, and I
keep playing Fallout 4 over a host of other new games I have sitting around. And I suspect that isn't going to change for a while.

For the second straight week, the Green Bay Packers
find themselves traveling back to Wisconsin with another loss on their
record. Once again, the defeat came at the hands of an undefeated team,
somewhat clouding the perception of where Green Bay stands at this point
in the season.

While a reasonable debate
exists as to the exact nature of the Packers' problems, there are some
things that seem more concrete heading into Week 10.

Green Bay should install James Starks as the lead back

Even if Eddie Lacy heals from the groin injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers,
his play has dipped significantly in 2015. Lacy currently averages a
paltry 3.7 yards per carry, a drop-off of nearly a full yard from last
year's clip. The third-year tailback has also become less of a factor in
the passing game.

Conversely, James Starks has
demonstrated improvement in both of these areas. Even with sometimes
spotty run blocking, Starks averages 4.3 yards per attempt and has
become a dynamic pass catcher out of the backfield. His 19 receptions
nearly double Lacy's total, and Starks demonstrated again Sunday that he
can turn screen passes into huge gains. The offense operates smoother
with him on the field, which is enough of a reason to make the switch
until Lacy reclaims his All-Pro form.

The O-line has stymied the offense as much as the receivers

For all the deserved criticism
the Packers' pass catchers have received, the offensive line is due at
least a comparable amount of blame. For the third consecutive game, Aaron Rodgers
had few clean pockets to step into, resulting in many broken plays and
wild scrambles, not to mention a fumble. While Rodgers possesses the
ability to succeed in those situations, such is hardly a recipe for
sustained success.

In particular, the interior of Green Bay's line needs to return to form. The normally reliable Corey Linsley
had a poor showing against the Panthers, drawing a flag while also
getting put on skates too often in pass protection. Even Josh Sitton,
perhaps the best guard in the league, whiffed on a block that led
directly to a sack.

The good news for Green Bay is
the track record of the three starting interior linemen suggests that
they can rebound between now and the end of the regular season.

The quarterback made mistakes, too

While the Packers' quarterback
evades blamed when things go wrong -- and often justifiably so -- he
played a significant role in how things unfolded in Carolina. The
headline mistake was missing a wide-open Randall Cobb
on the team's final offensive snap, a well-run pick play that freed the
wideout at the goal line. However, Rodgers faltered in other ways
during the game as well.

For the first time in awhile,
Rodgers' ball placement has looked shaky on routine throws. He threw
passes to the feet of receivers on some out-routes, missed wide on a
badly needed Davante Adams comeback pattern and overthrew a few deep balls along the boundary.

Rodgers should get this corrected in short order, most likely against the woeful Detroit Lions next Sunday. However, until he does the passing game will continue to suffer.

So in a private life more compelling than some of her movies, she dreamed up ways to fight the Nazis during World War II and earned a patent for an idea that laid the groundwork for such modern technologies as Bluetooth, GPs and Wi-Fi.

Lamarr, on what would have been her 101st birthday, was honored Monday with an animated doodle
on Google's search page. The jazzy clip pays homage to her remarkable
double career -- actress by day, inventor by night -- and introduces the
late star to a new generation at a time when the science and technology
fields are struggling to attract women.

"She's just so cool," said
Jennifer Hom of Google, who researched Lamarr's life to create the
animated clip. "She was very complicated and very accomplished at the

Born
Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Austria, Lamarr began working as an actress
in Europe as a teenager and scandalized audiences in the Czech film
"Ecstasy," in which the camera lingered on her face as her character had
an orgasm. She fled an abusive marriage in the late 1930s and came to
Hollywood, where she changed her name to Hedy Lamarr, signed a contract
with MGM and landed many roles as an exotic seductress.

Lamarr

So during World War II, Lamarr drew upon
her interest in science and military technology -- gained in part
through her first marriage to an arms dealer -- to help devise a system
to prevent the Nazis from blocking signals from radio-controlled Allied
torpedoes. She teamed with composer George Antheil, a neighbor, to
create a frequency-hopping system -- based on the 88 keys in pianos --
that would keep enemies from being able to detect the radio messages.

They

inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.

As
research for her Google doodle, Hom watched a lot of Lamarr's movies

All sorts of little ghosts and goblins will be showing up at doors
tonight as Halloween trick or treaters visit homes in hopes of a candy
haul.

One of the big questions for parents is: when does Halloween trick or
treating start – and end – on Oct. 31? That depends on where you live,
where you will be trick or treating and how old your children are.

Traditionally, Halloween trick or treating starts at nightfall,
though younger children may start making the rounds earlier. In Alabama,
sunset tonight is 5:56 p.m. so you can expect a barrage of little ones –
and some big ones – around that time.

Here are some other thoughts on how to make the most of your trick or treating:

Experts advise not to send kids out on an empty stomach to help keep
them out of the candy at least for a little while. Apparently, lots of
people think of pizza for dinner before they head out - delivery services say it's one of their busiest nights of the year.

Don't go out too late in the evening. The general rule of thumb is
if a house has turned its lights off, don't go knock on the door.

Different towns sometimes have events or specific hours for
Halloween. Because Oct. 31 is on a Saturday this year, there's not quite
as much rush to hit the doors early so we're likely to see a later
start time.

Here's a tricky question: When are you too old to go trick or treating? A survey showed 57 percent of the people thought
somewhere between the ages of 12-15 was a cutoff line but no one could
agree on a specific age. One rule does seem pretty clear, however: if
you're old enough to drive yourself from house to house, you're too old.

Experts on such things – yes, there are people who study these topics –
said the best time to go door to door in hopes of a candy haul is
6:30-8 p.m. Surveys show that's the time most people head out, so looks
like people are in on the news.

Safety is always an issue on Halloween and you want to make sure any costumes are reflective enough to be seen at night. Halloween-safety.com has some more tips, including a warning for drivers to pay special attention in neighborhoods where children may be out.

Looking for something to do this Halloween? Here's a guide to places you can go trick or treating even if the weather isn't cooperating.

Curious about what your state's favorite candy is? You can check that our here to see who likes chocolate, who wants candy corn and who is just wild about sour things.

Not everyone is aboard the Halloween bandwagon. A 2006 Gallup poll showed 1 in 10 Americans
said they object to celebrating Halloween due to religious beliefs. Six
in 10 said they do hand out treats to children, about the same number
who said their children wear costumes on Oct. 31.

Sometimes my wife or daughter will ask why I am watching the closing minutes of yet another blowout loss by the Buffalo Bills. My standard response: “For archival purposes.” When the Bills play, I watch — simple as that.

That’s why I’m a longtime subscriber to DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. I never have to miss a game. Even when I can’t watch live, I can record it to watch later.

That brings us to Sunday’s Bills-Jags game in London, available only streaming live on Yahoo. I went to my son’s house, where he understands the alchemy of transporting images from computer screen to TV screen. Early on, the game stuttered and buffered, performing about as well as Bills’ QB EJ Manuel. My son fiddled with an app. That cured the hiccups, but now the picture was blurry. We watched that way for the rest of the half.

Then my son got the game on my cell phone so I could watch the rest from the finish of the Marine Corps Marathon, where my niece was running. Before the end of the third quarter, the picture disappeared. I tried, and failed, to retrieve it. I followed the rest on Twitter — the Bills’ dramatic comeback, the Jaguars’ winning drive.

The archive has a hole in it, like the Bills’ game plan. And my DirecTV contract.

It's the day that "Back to the Future" fans have been waiting almost three decades for.

When Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox)
blasted their DeLorean into the future at the end of the 1985 cult
classic sci-fi film and landed in Hill Valley at the start of 1989's
"Back to the Future Part II," the date was October 21, 2015 -- which
just happens to be today!

Thirty years later, you can catch all three films in the hit franchise
(Part III came out in 1990) on a special 30th anniversary Blu-ray set,
streaming free for Amazon Prime members or back on the big screen in
theaters.

And while you're checking out the stars from 30 years ago, we have a
look at where they are now. Here is the cast of "Back to the Future Part
II" then and now:

Michael J. Fox

The star of the franchise was then America's favorite teenager from the
hit show "Family Ties," though Canadian-born Michael J. Fox was actually
24 when he first took the role of Marty McFly.

He nearly didn't get the job. "Family Ties" producer Gary David Goldberg
didn't want to risk losing him, so Eric Stolz was cast instead. After
initial filming, it became clear that Stolz was miscast and director
Robert Zemeckis went back to Goldberg. This time a deal was worked out
so Fox could shoot the film at night after shooting his sitcom.

By the time "Part II" was shot, Fox was a bonafide movie star, and he
took on the additional roles of his fraternal twins, Marty Jr. and
Marlene McFly.

In addition to staring in all three movies, Fox starred in "The Secret
of My Success," "Bright Lights, Big City," "Casualties of War," and "Doc
Hollywood." In 1996, he returned to television in the hit sitcom "Spin
City." During the third season he announced to the cast and crew that he
had Parkinson's Disease and retired from the show in the fourth season.

While scaling back from show business, Fox became a strong advocate for
Parkinson's research, creating The Michael J. Fox Foundation. In recent
years, he's made a number of guest roles on "Rescue Me" and "The Good
Wife," while NBC's "The Michael J. Fox Show," which was loosely based on
his life lasted only a season.

Fox, now 54, is the father of four children with his wife of 27 years, actress Tracy Pollan.

Lloyd, now 76, actually appeared in a number of films, including "One

before starring in "Back to the Future," for which he is best known. A
veteran character actor, he has worked steadily since on both the big
and small screens. He also reprised his role as "Doc" Brown in the "Back
to the Future" video games and animated series. And he has reunited
with Fox on "Spin City," "The Michael J. Fox Show," and most recently
this Toyota commercial.
While teammates were quick to praise the 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck’s guts after last night’s win over the Texans, the reality is he didn’t have many left.

Wracked by a bacterial infection, Hasselbeck spent most of his week
either in a hospital or on a toilet, making the fact he could relieve an
injured Andrew Luck last night amazing.

“Lots of stuff coming out of the attic, then a lot of stuff coming out the basement,” Hasselbeck described it, via Zac Keefer of the Indianapolis Star.

More impressive than his passing stats were his IV numbers, five
straight days of them with two bags of fluid yesterday before the game.
He was so sick he couldn’t even talk to at the team meeting the night
before the game.

“He didn’t look good, man,” offensive lineman Joe Reitz said. “He was sitting there like a zombie.”
“Looked like warmed-over death,” added Adam Vinatieri.

But he spent the day saving every bit of energy he could, and then
used it all to beat the Texans, going 18-of-29 for 231 yards and two
touchdowns.

“I really had nothing this morning,” Hasselbeck said. “I honestly feel like this isn’t even real now.”
The good news is, the Colts now have a 10-day break, and Hasselbeck apparently is going to need each of them.

Green Bay Packers vs 49ers Score

Without a doubt, the biggest takeaway from the Green Bay Packers' 17-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday was that the defense figured out a way to take Colin Kaepernick and the read-option out of the equation.

Green Bay limited San Francisco to just 196 total yards on Sunday,
with Kaepernick managing just 160 passing yards and 57 rushing yards.

A decline, or perhaps lack of development, in Kaepernick's play,
which has been evident all season, was definitely a factor in his
showing, but it's also obvious that Green Bay's defense has made leaps
and bounds from the unit that was dominated by the 49ers from 2012-14.

Let's break down five of the biggest takeaways from Green Bay's
fourth win of the season and what the team can either work on or keep
doing well as we head into Week 5. Though they are not included in the
following breakdown, the fact that Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb and James Jones, in particular, continue to play at an eye-popping level goes without saying.
averaged 300.7 passing yards per game, 100.3 rushing yards per game, two
touchdowns and less than one interception per game.

Against the Packers on Sunday, however, Kaepernick was
abysmal, passing for 160 yards and rushing for 57, with no touchdowns
and one interception.

And while Kaepernick has exhibited poor play through the
2015 season, showing a lack of development and rushing less than he used
to, the Packers held him to his second-lowest passing output on the
season and his second-lowest completion rate of just 52 percent.

Part of the issue for Kaepernick was that the Packers
took at 14-point lead early and didn't relinquish it, meaning the 49ers
needed him to pass from the pocket more and use his legs less.
Hey, whatever it takes to finally get the job done against him.
Aaron Rodgers had only taken three sacks, total, heading into
Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, but he doubled that
amount for the season, going down three times.

It was what Green Bay Press-Gazette writer Ryan Wood called the "worst pass protect of the season" for the Packers offensive line, and he's right.

In addition to his three sacks, Rodgers also took five quarterback
hits and averaged seven yards per pass attempt, down from his average of
8.5 yards on the season.

Part of that was due to the way the 49ers defense played the Packers
and to his diminished receiving corps, but the offensive line struggled
to keep a clean pocket open for him at times.

Four of the Packers' eight penalties also came at the hands of the
offensive line: a false start on T.J. Lang, a holding call on David
Bakhtiari and two holding calls on Josh Sitton. Especially considering
those are members of the first-string starting five, those numbers need
to decrease.

That's not to say backup Don Barclay had a good night just because he
didn't have a penalty, however. He was completely run over by San
Francisco's Aaron Lynch, who had two sacks on Rodgers.

Needless to say, the Packers will be waiting eagerly to get starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga back after this week.
It's officially time to acknowledge that outside linebacker Nick
Perry's play this season is not a fluke, but rather it's a legitimate
improvement.

The Packers effectively forced Perry into a contract year this season
when they elected not to pick up the fifth-year option on his contract
in the offseason.

Given his play through the first four weeks, Perry in turn is effectively saying, "That's fine with me."
On his way to prove he can be a productive player for the Packers in
the future, Perry had a sack, a forced fumble and seven combined tackles
through the first three games of the season and was an important part
of stopping the run.

He stepped that up in Week 4, adding two more sacks, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and two solo tackles.

With Julius Peppers aging and figuring to cost a big chunk of change
against the cap in 2016 and veteran Mike Neal also poised to become a
free agent in March, there's a place for Perry in this team's future if
he keeps up this level of play.
Heading into Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, Packers
punter Tim Masthay was already having a slow start to his season.

In three games, Masthay was averaging 38 net yards per punt, putting
him at No. 23 among all punters. Eight of his punts had been returned,
which was tied for the sixth-most in the league.

Not much improved on Sunday. By the time his afternoon was finished,
Masthay averaged 39.2 yards per punt on six attempts. San Francisco's
Jarryd Hayne returned three of them, but Green Bay's special teams kept
him in check, allowing just 12 yards.

Masthay admitted to having a mental block last season, when his decline began.

"I allowed too many negative thoughts to distract me; that was one—a big one," Masthay said in August, per ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky. "And two, I felt like I hurried myself a little too much."
Though Masthay told Demovsky he didn't plan on making the same
mistakes this season, especially given that he won the training-camp
competition against Cody Mandell, it appears he's still struggling with
confidence and technique.
As the Packers advance to 4-0 on the season, with a defense that is
finally playing at a high level and featuring the usual high-octane
offense, it's hard to imagine there is anything they could do to
improve.

Especially given that the mighty Arizona Cardinals fell to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, the Packers are looking like the NFC's best team.

Still, there's one area in which the Packers could improve to become
even more unstoppable, and that's in third-down conversions.

Heading into Sunday's game, the Packers had a third-down conversion
percentage of 43.75, which was 11th in the league. That's not horrible,
but it definitely left room for improvement.

Against the 49ers, however, the Packers only converted five of 15
third downs, giving them a conversion rate of just 33.33 percent. (They
did, however, go 2-of-2 on fourth-down attempts.)
Part of the improvement will come from improved offensive line play.
If the unit can both limit the sacks Rodgers takes on third downs and
open up passable lanes for Eddie Lacy in short-yardage conversion attempts, the percentage should improve.

There weren't five touchdowns for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week. Luckily, his one was more than enough against a spiraling San Francisco 49ers team.

Rodgers threw for 224 yards, and the Green Bay defense held the 49ers
offense out of the end zone as the Packers moved to 4-0 with a 17-3 win
at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Largely held in check throughout, Rodgers was able to snap his
four-game losing streak against San Francisco by avoiding mistakes. He
ran his interception-less streak to four games, completing 22 of 32
passes and hitting Richard Rodgers for a first-quarter score.

The reigning MVP has 11 touchdowns without a pick so far in 2015 and
is arguably the quarter-season favorite to be the first repeat winner
since Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009.

"I don't know how much better he can play, frankly. But you never
know with Aaron," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said prior to Sunday's
game, per Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News. "He's very motivated, very detailed in his preparation in trying to improve. He's playing at an extremely high level."

James Jones continued his triumphant return to Green Bay with a
team-high 98 yards on five receptions. Jones was one of three Packers
(Rodgers, Randall Cobb)
tied with five grabs. The Packers were playing without second-year
wideout Davante Adams, leaving them without two of their three projected
top receivers (Jordy Nelson) from the preseason.

Will Brinson of CBS Sports highlighted the fact the New York Giants made a not-so-great decision regarding Jones:

Eddie Lacy, seemingly
back to full health, set a season high with 90 yards. Lacy had 18
carries compared to nine for James Starks, flipping the script on the
last two weeks where Starks got a majority of the work. Sam Monson of
Pro Football Focus noted what Lacy brings to the table:

On the other side of the field, the 49ers offense continues to be a mess. Colin Kaepernick
was sacked six times and threw an interception as San Francisco
amounted to only 196 yards of total offense.

Kaepernick has now failed
to record a touchdown pass in three of four games this season, and the
49ers have scored a grand total of 48 points through four games.

"That’s not really something I’m concerned with," Kaepernick told the Associated Press'
Janie McCauley this week of calls for him to lose his job (via CBS
Sacramento). "I have confidence in myself as far as being able to go out
and help this team win. What other people think of how I play and how I
go about things really isn’t something I worry about.”

HBO's Bill Simmons wondered how Kaepernick has fallen this far:
The follow up to the Model S, the car that’s turned the auto industry on its head was unveiled in front of a packed crowd by CEO (and real-life Tony Stark) Elon Musk in Fremont, California.

The car features the same 90 kWh battery pack as the Model S sedan P90D, providing up to 400kms of electric range, which is slightly less than the sedan due to its heavier weight.

While it’s long been documented that the Model X will be the fastest SUV ever made, Musk also revealed that it’s the safest SUV ever made, receiving 5-star ratings in every US safety category. He claimed that the car was so safe that when they crashed it into a pole, it didn’t crumple like a standard car does, but instead actually broke the pole.

Not only does it absorb energy from collisions better than any other SUV, but it has sensors in it that will help steer it away from an accident to help you avoid an accident before one is able to happen.

The Model X is powered by twin electric motors, with the standard car able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds, while one equipped with the ‘Ludicrous’ package can do it in a ridiculous 3.3 seconds, or roughly the same time as an Audi R8 supercar. Remember this is a seven-seater SUV around the same size as a Mazda CX-9 or Audi Q7.

Design wise, the highlight feature is the doors. The rear doors are known as ‘Falcon doors’ which are able to open vertically.

On the surface they may just seem like an attention grabbers, but they actually serve a purpose. Multiple hinges on the door allow it to adjust how it opens based on sensors, meaning you can open the doors in tight spots. Ultrasonic sensors help the door detects obstacles and the multiple hinge positions allow the door to adjust itself to suit the situation.

The front doors are pretty special, too. They may open outwards like a standard car, but there are sensors inside which detect the passenger and driver’s movement. The doors are then able to automatically open in time with the driver’s approach and close once they’re in. Elon Musk called this the “invisible chauffer”.

Included in the Model X is also the largest piece of glass ever put into a production car. It’s called the Panoramic Windshield and wraps over the front passenger’s head and onto the roof.

To be able to make you feel like you’re inside a helicopter, Tesla engineers did much more than design a big piece of glass. Hurdles such as keeping front passengers from getting destroyed by the sun were solved by designing a gradual gradient tint and special sun visors that are clipped to the side pillars when not in use were needed.

The other is a typical Elon Musk invention. A bioweapon defence mode button that exemplifies the car’s air filtration system that avoid toxic fumes that comes into cars while you’re driving. Musk said that “If there’s ever an apocalyptic scenario of some kind” the mode, which is a real button in the air-conditioning settings, should come in handy.

Telsa Motors delivered the first of its long-awaited Model X electric sports-utility vehicles on Tuesday, a product investors are counting on to make the pioneering company profitable after years of losses. The launch of the Model X represents a milestone for the loss-making Silicon Valley automaker during a period of high spending and modest growth, because it can now boast a second model in production beyond its Model S sedan, launched in 2012. “I think we got a little carried away with the X,” Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk told reporters ahead of a launch event near the company’s Fremont factory, where luxury Model Xs have been moving down the production line in recent weeks, nearly two years behind the company’s original schedule.

Musk estimated that 25,000 customers had pre-ordered the crossover online or in its stores and that it would take 8-12 months for those ordering from now to receive the SUV.

In retrospect, the company may have done less, Musk said.

“There is far more there than is really necessary to sell a car. And some of the things are so difficult, they make the car better but the difficulty of engineering those parts is so high.”

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors Inc., introduces the Model X car at the company’s headquarters.

Between 4,000-6,000 guests filled a cavernous space for the launch. Invited to the event were Model X reservation holders, Tesla employees and Model S and Roadster owners. The Roadster sportscar, which is no longer in production, was the company’s first vehicle.

Musk has said the all-wheel drive Model X – with two electric motors, the ability to travel about 250 miles (about 400 km) on a single charge and seating for seven people – was “the hardest car to build in the world”.

Priced as high as $144,000, it features so-called “falcon-wing” doors that open upward rather than to the side – controlled by sensors that can modulate the height to clear garage ceilings – seats that can be adjusted separately and a panoramic windshield that extends overhead.

Musk said the biggest challenges were making the doors open in a graceful “balletic” manner, the expansive windshield – which he said was the largest piece of glass ever used in a car – plus its sun visor and the moveable seats, which he said were deceptively tricky.

“One of the hardest things to design is a good seat,” he said.

Although global adoption of electric vehicles has been slow, Tesla has been the US pioneer in luxury electric cars charged by batteries. It is betting that high-performance and stylish offerings will boost acceptance amid a sea of alternatives, such as hybrids or electric vehicles powered by hydrogen.
Tesla predicted its SUV would receive 5-star safety ratings in all categories, based on data from its crash tests, due to its low center of gravity, which helps reduce rollovers.

The Model X, like the Model S, will be continuously improved, Tesla said, due to software transmitted “over the air”. A highly anticipated update expected within the next month will allow for an auto-pilot function, in which cars can be driven hands-free on freeways.

AHEAD OF PACK

The buzz surrounding Tesla’s Model S sedan – whose P85D variant won a top score of 100 from Consumer Reports magazine in August – has managed to preempt high-end German rivals such as Volkswagen’s Audi and Porsche, BMW and Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz.

At the Frankfurt Auto Show earlier this month, Audi unveiled its e-tron quattro sport-utility vehicle, and Porsche showed off its first battery-powered sports car, although neither will be available before 2018.

But spending on the Model X, a new Nevada battery factory and the lower-cost Model 3 due by late 2017, have all increased capital expenses, which totaled $831.2 million in the first half of the year.
The Model X, he said, “gives us a cashflow stream we can use to develop and facilitate” Tesla’s three vehicles either in production or development.

Six new cars were delivered on Tuesday to a group made up of Tesla board members, investors and friends of Musk who had pre-ordered.

In August, Musk said Tesla would make between 50,000-55,000 Model S and Model X vehicles this year, with the capacity for 1,600-1,800 vehicles per week on its production line next year.

Tuesday’s unveiling showcased the top-of-the-line “Signature” Model X, priced between $132,000 and $144,000, with optional add-ons such as acceleration upgrades, packages for subzero weather package or towing.

The company has not disclosed pricing for the base model, but Musk said that in the future, there would be a “lower-cost” Model X.

Organisation for the session

Danish parliamentary speaker Mogens Lykketoft was chosen as the consensus candidate of WEOG to preside over the assembly. His goals were formulating a Post-2015 Development Agenda as "sustainable development goals," in particular environmental sustainability. He said "Things have changed in the past 15 years. We are no longer just fighting extreme poverty brought about by a lack of public services. We are fighting against a new form of poverty, one caused by the unsustainable path of development that we, as a species, have chosen to embark on. The consensus is that it is impossible to continue without endangering not just ourselves, but future generations as well." Amongst these goals included the end of year United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP21.

As is tradition during each session of the General Assembly, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will draw lots to see which member state would take the helm at the first seat in the General Assembly Chamber, with the other member states following according to the English translation of their name, the same order would be followed in the six main committees.[2] For this session, Tuvalu was drawn to take up the first seat in the chamber.[3]

The Chairmen and officers of the six Main Committees will also be elected: First Committee (Disarmament and International Security Committee) ;Second Committee (Economic and Financial Committee) ; Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee) ; Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization Committee) ; Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary Committee) ; and the Sixth Committee (Legal Committee) .

There will also be nineteen vice-presidents of the UNGA.[4]

General Debate

Main article: General debate of the seventieth session of the United Nations General Assembly
Most states will have a representative speaking about issues concerning their country and the hopes for the coming year as to what the UNGA will do. This is an opportunity for the member states to opine on international issues of their concern. The General Debate will occur from 28 September-3 October, with the exception of the intervening Sunday.

The order of speakers is given first to member states, then observer states and supranational bodies. Any other observers entities will have a chance to speak at the end of the debate, if they so choose. Speakers will be put on the list in the order of their request, with special consideration for ministers and other government officials of similar or higher rank. According to the rules in place for the General Debate, the statements should be in one of the United Nations official languages of Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish, and will be translated by the United Nations translators. Each speaker is requested to provide 20 advance copies of their statements to the conference officers to facilitate translation and to be presented at the podium. Speeches are requested to be limited to five minutes, with seven minutes for supranational bodies.[2] President Mogens Lykketoft chose the theme of the debate as "The United Nations at 70: the road ahead for peace, security and human rights."[5]
The US and Russian military will hold talks "as soon as possible" to avoid clashing in Syria, the countries' top diplomats say.

Russian
defence officials say their aircraft carried out about 20 missions
against the so-called Islamic State group (IS) on Wednesday.

But the US expressed fears the targets were non-IS opponents of Russia's ally, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.

The US is targeting IS with air strikes in both Syria and Iraq.
Nato
said there had been little co-ordination by Russia with US-led forces
against IS, also known as Isil. The US says it was informed of
Wednesday's air strikes only an hour before they took place.
The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal report that US-backed rebels were targeted by Russia.
Jon Sopel: How Putin blindsided the US
What are Putin's goals in Syria?
Russia's
Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said there was a need to "establish
channels of communication to avoid any unintended incidents". His US
counterpart, John Kerry, said talks will be held "as soon as possible,"
possibly as early as Thursday.

Mr Kerry added: "It's one thing to be targeting Isil, but the concern, obviously, is that this is not what was happening."

France's
Defence Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, told French MPs: "Curiously, they
didn't hit Islamic State. I will let you draw a certain number of
conclusions yourselves."

Syria's civil war has raged for four years, with an array of armed groups fighting to overthrow the government.

The US and its allies have insisted that President Assad should leave office, while Russia has backed him remaining in power.

he Russian defence ministry said the country's air force had targeted
IS military equipment, communication facilities, arms depots,
ammunition and fuel supplies - and did not hit civilian infrastructure
or areas nearby.

Syrian opposition activists said Russian
warplanes hit towns including Zafaraneh, Rastan and Talbiseh, resulting
in the deaths of at least 36 civilians, a number of them children.
None of the areas targeted was controlled by IS, activists said.

"We
have been exposed to a wide range of weapons over the last five years,"
one doctor in Rastan told Reuters. "But what happened today was
absolutely the most violent and ferocious, and the most comprehensive."

r Kerry said the United States would not object to Russian military
action in Syria - as long as it was directed against IS and groups
linked to al-Qaeda.

US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter went
further, saying: "By supporting Assad and seemingly taking on everyone
who is fighting Assad, you're taking on the whole rest of the country of
Syria.
"At least some parts of the anti-Assad opposition belong
in the political transition going forward. That's why the Russian
approach is doomed to fail."

Analysis: Jonathan Marcus, defence and diplomatic correspondent

Russia's decision to intervene with its air power greatly complicates
the Syrian crisis while probably offering little additional chance of a
diplomatic resolution.

There are serious questions about who
exactly the Russian aircraft are targeting. US officials believe that
the initial Russian strikes are not in IS-held territory, raising the
possibility that Russian air power is being utilised more in the form of
close air support for Syrian government forces against the multiple
enemies of the Assad regime.

Of course, many of these enemies
are supported by the West's Arab allies or Turkey. The warning time
given by the Russians to the Americans announcing the start of their
operations may also raise some eyebrows, suggesting that much more
detailed co-ordination may be needed in future to avoid incidents in
Syrian airspace.

In a televised address, Mr Putin said the air strikes were targeting
Islamist militants - including Russian citizens - who have taken over
large parts of Syria and Iraq.

"If they [militants] succeed in Syria, they will return to their home country, and they will come to Russia, too," he said.

He added that Russia would be "supporting the Syrian army purely in its legitimate fight with terrorist groups".

Mr
Putin also said he expected President Assad to talk with the Syrian
opposition about a political settlement, but clarified that he was
referring to what he described as "healthy'' opposition groups.
Syria's civil war

What's the human cost?
More than 250,000
Syrians have been killed and a million injured in four-and-a-half years
of armed conflict, which began with anti-government protests before
escalating into a full-scale civil war.

And the survivors?
More
than 11 million others have been forced from their homes, four million
of them abroad, as forces loyal to President Assad and those opposed to
his rule battle each other - as well as jihadist militants from IS and
other groups. Growing numbers of refugees are going to Europe.

How has the world reacted?
Regional
and world powers have also been drawn into the conflict. Iran and
Russia, along with Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, are propping up the
Alawite-led government. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are backing the
Sunni-dominated opposition, along with the US, UK and France.

Nexus launch day is a cutthroat time when mere moments can make the
difference between a speedy shipment and weeks of waiting. While
quickly comparing the Nexus 5X and 6P to decide which one to order, many
have noticed that the 6P lists an RGB notification LED, but the 5X
doesn't. Well, we've confirmed there's an LED on the 5X too. How? We
bothered Google VP of Engineering Dave Burke via email. He was kind
enough to explain what's going on.

The omission of the LED from the 5X's spec list is a mistake, but it
should be corrected soon. The LED is behind the speaker grille on the
bottom of the phone. Burke explains that this is a real notification
LED, not like that fake LED on the Nexus 6 that only worked with root. Apps can use the LED API
to produce any color they want, but the system uses ambient display by
default. You can see the LED in the image below, which apparently came
from a network test unit.

So if you get the 5X, you'll be able to get LED notifications from apps.
You could use something like Light Flow to customize and manage them,
but the system favors ambient display. The Nexus phones will also use
that LED as a "sign-of-life indicator" in the event something is wrong
with the hardware. That's all the Nexus 6's LED was used for, but these
are much more capable.

UPDATE: Fetty Wap's management has released a statement on the accident. "Fetty Wap was involved in a motorcycle incident earlier today," a representative wrote to Rolling Stone. "He was treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition. His family wants to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support. They ask that you respect their privacy during this time. We will provide an update on his condition as it becomes available."

Fetty Wap was involved in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. The "Trap Queen" rapper was riding his motorcycle when collided head-on with another vehicle, TMZ reports, adding that paramedics treated Fetty at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital to examine him for possible fractures. An associate of the rapper, DJ Louie Styles, later tweeted photos of an alert Fetty in the hospital and assured fans that "he's ok." In the photo, a splint is seen securing the rapper's leg.

Another Twitter user named DJ Akademiks posted photos of a "responsive" Fetty being stretchered into a waiting ambulance as well as the wreckage the rapper's motorcycle incurred in the crash. The accident comes just one day after Fetty Wap released his self-titled debut album, which features the hits "My Way," "679" and "Trap Queen." On Thursday, the rapper posted video of himself riding a motorcycle before a concert in Clifton, New Jersey.

A representative for the rapper did not respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment.

"Even if the album don't go anywhere, that doesn't mean nothing to me," Fetty Wap recently told Rolling Stone. "I did what most people said I wouldn't do. And I overcame, I guess you could say, a lot of rookie boundaries. I just shot past what a lot of people expected. Selling the album is what I'm supposed to do in the music industry, not what I wanted to do. For the most part, I don't really have a story to tell. It's the same story; everybody come out with the same story. They came from nothing, they got something and now they have everything. It's the story everybody already knows about. I just figured, why keep telling people that they ain't gonna get the chance to live this way?"

9/11 Memorial Bomb Plot

A game of nearlys and what-might-have-beens, it spluttered but failed to spark until, in the penalty shoot-out, the game turned a glorious Chilean red. At last, the host country have something to put in their trophy cabinet.

For Argentina, this must have felt like a cruel re-run of last year's World Cup. The stand-out feature of the team is, of course, its individual fire power. But just as in Brazil 2014, the big-name stars looked short on gas when it really mattered. The joy in their legs that was present against Colombia, and particularly in the semifinal rout of Paraguay, had disappeared.

After a promising start to the final, Angel Di Maria broke down with an injury, just as he did last year. Lionel Messi was once again a player of sporadic flashes rather than the little genius who, at his best, exerts such a control on the game. And, just as in last year's final against Germany, there was a wasted chance that fell to Gonzalo Higuain.

Twelve months ago, Higuain spurned an opportunity when he badly missed a shot from close range against the Germans. This time, the moment came right at the end of the 90 minutes, when Argentina launched a counter-attack. Messi fed Ezequiel Lavezzi (a first-half replacement for Di Maria) who rolled a pass toward the far post. Straining to arrive on time, Higuain couldn't quite turn the ball inside the post. The more-mobile Sergio Aguero may well have gotten there but he had been replaced by Higuain, an understandable switch given the context of the match.

This was a game that promised to turn into an attacking feast between two front-loaded sides who attack better than they defend. It never quite turned out that way, partly through end-of-season exhaustion and partly through the precautions taken to neutralise the opponent.

Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli found a way to play three at the back and retain playmaker Jorge Valdivia; he dropped Marcelo Diaz into his defensive line. This meant that the back three, Francisco Silva, Diaz and Gary Medel, were all converted midfielders. It was a gamble; all received yellow cards in the first half, two of them for fouls after diving in on the wrong side -- the type of mistake that midfielders can get away with but can prove fatal when committed by defenders.

An Argentina side capable of sustaining a better second-half rhythm might have been able to turn those yellows into reds, but this Argentina side looked heavy in the legs. In some of the early Copa America games, coach Gerardo Martino had complained of his team's inability to keep going for 90 minutes. They were dominating most of the matches but suffering at the end. This time, they were unable to exert domination. The clear first half chances fell to Argentina: Aguero's header from a Messi free kick forced a reflex save from Claudio Bravo, and after being set up by Javier Pastore, Lavezzi shot straight at the keeper. But there was no concerted pressure.

Pastore looked like he has so often in this tournament, taking good advantage of the space left and pressure taken by Messi dropping deep or dragging the defence around. But Pastore faded in the end and was brought off after 80 minutes. His replacement, Ever Banega, initially improved matters, knitting the side together with his passing. It helped because the problem was that Argentina were so stretched out. This problem had forced the substitution of Aguero; left isolated from his teammates, he was receiving the ball back to goal without a teammate close to him.

Given this context, introducing the taller and more physical Higuain made sense. In hindsight, though, it did not turn out well with that missed chance at the end of normal time and, of course, with Argentina's first missed penalty in the shoot-out, blazed high over the bar by Higuain.

And so Argentina's run without a senior title goes on. One man who must be feeling cursed is Javier Mascherano. Eleven years ago, just past his 20th birthday, he was superb against Brazil in the final of the 2004 Copa America. At 2-1 up, Argentina seemed to have the title in the bag, until Adriano equalised with precisely four seconds remaining. Dazed and confused after that goal, Argentina lost that penalty shoot-out. Last year, of course, there was the 1-0 defeat to Germany in the World Cup final and now, by the dubious virtue of another spot kick contest, he has come close to a title once more, only to fall at the last hurdle.

At 31, time might be running out for Mascherano. His big-name teammates, though, should have at least one more cycle, one more World Cup and Copa America to break the drought. But priority must revolve around to the introduction of more defensive pace. With some speed at the back, Argentina could have pressed more effectively against Chile and turned slight first-half superiority into stranglehold.

Argentina defended well in their own penalty area; Alexis Sanchez put two good chances wide, and other than watching those efforts, goalkeeper Sergio Romero had little to do. In front of him, shots were blocked and good interceptions were made. But an Argentina team with the pace to trust itself to defend higher up the field would keep more compact, and therefore, get better value for its individual stars.

But on Saturday night, as they watched the Chilean players celebrate at long last, the Argentines could be forgiven for wondering if their own moment will ever come.
The sequel to Independence Day will debut next year, 20 years after the release of the first film. Some of the cast and crew from the original are returning, including Roland Emmerich, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Vivica A. Fox, but we’ll also see newcomers like Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Maika Monroe (It Follows). Recently, the producers of the film announced the title for the sequel – Independence Day: Resurgence – which was released alongside set images and a video featuring the animated logo from the film.

But what about a trailer? According to reports, a teaser premiered on the Fourth of July (a.k.a. Independence Day) with Terminator: Genisys prints. Additionally, the cast and crew of the film have posted teases for IDR on their Instagram and Twitter accounts.

According to AICN and /Film, the teaser trailer – which was around 35 seconds long – was only available on Saturday and won’t be shown with Genisys prints going forward. That said, it’s not clear at this point if there was any actual footage from the film in the teaser, so don’t feel too bad if you didn’t get a chance to see it.

Still, if you’re disappointed that you missed the teaser, there’s good news – director Roland Emmerich, star Jeff Goldbum, and the official Independence Day Twitter account released their own new teases for the film.

As was the case with the premiere of the logo animation, there’s not actual footage from the film in any of the above teases. Their purpose seems merely to excite fans who are really looking forward to the sequel. Whether or not we’ll see significant footage from the film any time soon remains to be seen. Since Resurgence is still filming – and it’s an effects-heavy film to begin with – a full trailer might still be a ways off.

While director Roland Emmerich may have gotten himself into some creative trouble over the course of his career (see 1998’s Godzilla or 2008’s 10,000 B.C., among other films), a return to the film property that made him a major player in Hollywood could be a boon for the aging industry stalwart. And if nothing else, it will be nice to see Jeff Goldblum in something other than Portlandia.

What say you, Screen Rant readers? Are you looking forward to seeing this sequel? Let us know in the comments.

Independence Day: Resurgence will be released in theaters on June 24th, 2016.

The nation's largest Fourth of July fireworks display went off without a hitch Saturday despite rain throughout the day and into the evening in Nashville.

Yet rain or no rain, event officials said the show was to go on no matter what, much to the delight of the massive crowd that packed onto Broadway and spilled onto every side street downtown. Still there were concert delays throughout the day, and Martina McBride's concert was delayed by about 20 minutes.

The rain was only a minor inconvenience for the thousands gathered downtown throughout the day and into the night who enjoyed the festivities and jockeyed for the best spots.

Many congregated along the prime Riverfront Park location in the early morning and afternoon hours, getting rained on multiple times.

For the Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church seated on the banks of the Cumberland River, the closer the seating, the better. The group of 10 gathered at about 2:30 p.m. to claim a seat.

Allison Randolph, a fellow church-goer who translated for the group, said sitting closer enhances the experience. The feeling of the explosions is a bodily experience.

"You feel the vibrations of the fireworks," she translated for Aric Randolph. "It's like your chest is pounding and your heart skips a beat."

The rain also wasn't a problem for Donnie and Melanie Bearden. The two were set on seeing the fireworks, an experience they had to experience before Melanie is scheduled for brain surgery at the end of the month.

The two were armed with umbrellas and tarps, and sat hand-in-hand. They were set on making as memories as possible in the next month.

"I told her no fireworks show she's ever been to will add up to this one," Donnie said.

"And I hope this is something I can remember immediately after my surgery," Melanie said.

Brentwood, Franklin reschedule

The Franklin and Brentwood celebrations weren't as lucky as Nashville.

A flash flood warning was issued for Williamson, Rutherford, Hickman and Dickson counties. The rain throughout the day caused Franklin's and Brentwood's events to be canceled. Both have rescheduled.

Brentwood's live concert will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday and the fireworks will start at 9 p.m. at Crockett Park.

Franklin's fireworks will begin 9:15 p.m. Sunday at Harlinsdale Park.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Billy Joel married girlfriend Alexis Roderick in a surprise ceremony at the couple's annual Fourth of July party.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo presided over Saturday's nuptials at Joel's Long Island estate, the singer's spokeswoman Claire Mercuri said.

The small group of family and friends at the party didn't know the couple planned to exchange vows. Among those in attendance were Alexa Ray Joel, his daughter with his second wife, model Christie Brinkley, and actor Kevin James.

People magazine first reported the wedding.

Joel, 66, and Roderick, 34, have been dating since 2009 and are expecting their first child. This is his fourth marriage.

Joel is currently on tour. On Wednesday, he set a record for most performances by a single artist at Madison Square Garden with his 65th show, besting Elton John.
Making ice cream is easy, and it's a great project to try with kids. See Step 1 and beyond to learn how to create a simple cream or custard base and add flavoring and mix-ins to make it your own. This article provides instructions on how to make ice cream without an ice cream maker, too!

Method 1 of 5: Making Cream-Based Ice Cream
1.Mix your base. It's easy to make a wide variety of ice cream flavors by starting with a good vanilla ice cream base. Cream-based ice cream is a bit icier and lighter than custard-based ice cream. This recipe will make one quart of ice cream, so double it if you want more. Mix up the following ingredients in a saucepan:
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional: Add 1/2 cup cocoa powder for chocolate ice cream.

2.Heat until the sugar dissolves. Place the saucepan over medium high heat and heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the sugar completely dissolves.
3.Chill the mixture in the refrigerator. Pour the cream base into a bowl, cover it, and place it in the refrigerator to cool down for an hour or two.
4.Freeze the ice cream in an ice cream maker. Pour the chilled base into your ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. Depending on what type of ice cream maker you have, the freezing process might take one or more hours.
5.Add mix-ins. When the ice cream is partially frozen, add your favorite mix-ins to flavor your ice cream. A vanilla base tastes wonderful with just about any type of fruit, candy or nut. Add a cup (more or less to taste) of one or more of the following:
Sliced strawberries
Chopped cherries
Chopped peaches
Chopped chocolate bar
Chopped candy bar
Butterscotch chips
Shredded toasted coconut
Peanut butter
Candied pecans
Chopped pistachios

6. Finish freezing the ice cream. Turn the ice cream maker back on to finish the freezing process, then put the ice cream in the freezer for about 3 hours to firm it up. Enjoy your ice cream once it's frozen solid and creamy.
