Despite the apparent conflict of interest in being in charge of administering an election where she’s the candidate, she would not recuse when asked.</p> <p>ACT 1: HARDWARE SNAFU</p> <p>On election morning, roughly a quarter of the tabulation machines in a GOP heavy area of Maricopa County didn’t work. For hours. There was a tweet around 6pm saying they’d been fixed.</p> <p>The most generous scenario is that in an election on which she claims the future of democracy hinges… she either lacked the time or the good sense to make sure every piece of hardware in every county was tested and retested and certified to be functional BEFORE election day.</p> <p>So the generous scenario is that Katie Hobbs exhibited gross incompetence and dereliction of duty in office. We have elections at two year intervals. You couldn’t PLAN for this.</p> <p>THE RESULT</p> <p> Some voters were turned away. Some that’d checked in and went elsewhere to vote would not get there vote counted for checking in multiple places. Some never got to vote because the state refused to extend the voting hours at locations where voters had been delayed by the state’s errors.</p> <p>ACT 2: THE SLOW ROLL</p> <p>That night when the first votes were announced, Katie was in the lead. She remained so until the vote dump the next morning, when the results brought Kari Lake to less than percent of her tally. </p> <p>Suddenly the count became VERRRY SLOWWWW. The whole day the percent of votes counted remained at 66%.</p> <p>That event, the percentage catapulted to 67%… and Cari Lake is now 2/10 of 1% behind. </p> <p>Bear in mind, the one about to get passed is the chief election administrator for the state.</p> <p>EPILOGUE </p> <p>This disaster is still in progress. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The optics are terrible. Florida had their votes counted so fast their races were called before polls closed in the next time zone. </p> <p>What exactly is it taking Arizona days to do? No word on what either of CNN’s fans thought.</p> <p><strong>CNN: Where Journalism Goes to Die</strong></p> <p>I blogged about the set of headlines below when CNN published them less than a week apart. Same writer, contradicting his own work, simply because “orange man bad”. Facts simply don’t matter if there’s a chance to criticize Trump. Sadly there are adults who can’t remember when they were a news network. They were once the real thing.</p> <p>So I guess Wallace is finally home. So I got to reading up on the actual events.]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Was watching the movie Quo Vadis on TCM today. The movie is a historical fiction that takes place amidst the backdrop of the great fire of Rome under the emperor Nero. So I got to reading up on the actual events.</p> <p>For those unfamiliar with the history, the historian Tacitus, who was but a boy at the time of the fire, tells us the great fire was covertly set by Nero.</p> <p>His reason? The Roman Senate refused to let him tear down a large portion of Rome to construct what Nero believed would be his enduring monument, a complex to be called Neropolis. </p> <p>As Tacitus told it, Nero not only made zero effort to stop the flames… he actually watched and played an instrument while Rome burned. Violent gangs of thugs prevented many citizens from escaping to safety. Clearly Nero needed someone besides himself to be blamed, so he blamed it on a growing but unpopular religious sect known as Christians. </p> <p>He commenced to have them publicly crucified, slaughtered in the arena by lions, used as torches to light his feasts, and generally exterminated. It was during this hysteria the disciple Peter and the apostle Paul were arrested and executed.</p> <p>There is of course no reason to believe the thousands he had tortured and killed had anything whatsoever to do with the flames. But hey, they were unpopular, they bucked the prevalent idiology. They were different. Religious zealots. Bottom line, very convenient scapegoats. </p> <p>Besides, Nero was suddenly generously spending Rome’s money giving wine and grain to the Roman public, and the Christians were not.</p> <p>I’m not going to try to draw your conclusions for you. I know. Silly me.]</em></p> <p>He’d just had his account summarily executed on his favorite photo sharing platform… Which was rather important to him given he’s an artist, and it’s somewhat necessary others SEE his work in order for him to, you know, EAT and stuff like that.</p> <p>So being the tone deaf person I am, I committed the unforgivable sin of pointing out he’s an old white guy, and thereby deserves any grief that comes his way because you people have oppressed us for far too long… etc, etc.</p> <p>So in order to punish me for what they deemed “hate speech”, Facebook decided we should see other people. Specifically, I should give them my key and leave for 30 days. </p> <p>But without me there to bat around when they’re angry, bored, or have had a few too many… they decided to go through their old photos and call me up to discuss my past transgressions. </p> <p>So I get a notice they need to cover up a “potentially offensive” photo I’d posted. Five years ago.</p> <p>Now they DID say the material posted was ok, they just wanted to make sure the photo was not immediately visible to anyone it might potentially offend.</p> <p>Umm. OK? </p> <p>But it wasn’t enough that they’d unilaterally already done so. Now it became important I click to AGREE the punishment they’d meted out was necessary. </p> <p>Translation: <em>Now look what you’ve made me do to you!</em></p> <p>Seriously? No. I kind of thought the picture of the “religion of peace” guy sitting before the heads he’d removed from previous owners kind of underscored the point I was making, ie – it is NOT true that <em>all</em> religions are antithetic to the goal of world peace. NOW the post “violates the community guideline against glorifying harmful people.”</p> <p>They don’t mention <em>which</em> harmful people… but my money is on the Amish. Never did trust those bearded sumbeeches<em>. [And that’s just the women. The guys are even worse.]</em></p> <p>So now without having posted for a week and three more weeks to go before I could do so, I’ve incurred a new violation of their community guidelines. For a post written half a decade ago.</p> <p>But let’s not stop there.</p> <p><em>I ain’t gonna take no sass from your friends, neither!</em></p> <p>Next they send notes to everyone that had SHARED my post, five years ago. They all received notice that THEY had violated community guidelines. By sharing a post. Five years ago.</p> <p>Hey. Facebook? Don’t take this the wrong way, but you might want to call a therapist about some anger counseling. Also, take a shower and put on some clean clothes. You’re looking a bit rough.</p> <p>Meanwhile, I’ve got to check into getting a restraining order. The number of justices is not set by the constitution, but it’s been nine for the last 150+ years. </p> <p>The Democrats are dissatisfied with the “balance” of the court, and are threatening that if they gain the presidency and control of the Senate, they will let Biden select an unspecified number of additional justices.</p> <p>The idea is they can change future court rulings by simply appointing a lot of people amenable to construing the constitution according to their liking. This has been openly threatened by Senator Chuck Schumer recently, and by VP candidate Harris earlier in the campaign.</p> <p>Though the idea of using court packing has support on the far left, it tends to scare more moderate voters even on the Democrat leaning side. As a result, neither Biden nor Harris want to be pinned to a firm answer because either stance would alienate a portion of potential voters.</p> <p>In the recent debates, both Harris and Biden refused to answer whether they’d support court packing. The lie served its purpose, it made big news. He was proud of it.</p> <p>Now we have NY Times accusing Trump of tax AVOIDANCE… which is, read this closely, LEGAL. Heck, it’s standard operating procedure for every corporation. It’s why they hire CPA’s. It’s tax EVASION that is illegal. </p> <p>And all they have to do to prove their case is publish illegally obtained tax returns. That, by the way IS illegal. The claim made the news.
