42.

English clubs are producing some of the most promising youngsters in world football. The likes of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden have already established themselves on the bigger stage. Other players are catching these players’ pace and making a name for themselves. Manchester City’s academy has been one to watch out for recently.

 43.
20-year-old Georgie Gent is another player who was a part of City’s academy but decided to join Blackburn Rovers’ youth setup in 2019. He signed his first professional contract in 2022 and was sent for a loan spell to Motherwell at the start of the current season. It’s been a good season for the youngster as he is getting enough game time and delivering regular performances for his side. Let’s take a look at what this youngster is capable of doing on the field.

 44.
Guarding the left side

 45.

 46.
Georgie Gent is a left-back and has made 24 appearances for Motherwell this season. These include 14 starts for the club. The 20-year-old youngster has played as a left-back and a left-wing back for his club. The above viz shows the defensive territory of the player in all league matches. Gent has won 56% of his defensive duels, 38% of his aerial duels and 20% of his loose ball duels. His interception rate is high at 5.6 per 90 minutes. One area where the youngster has lacked is in giving away fouls in crucial zones. He has fouled the opposition inside the penalty box and on the edge of the box.

 47.

 48.
This plot analyzes a fullback’s ability to read the game and make crucial tackles, highlighting their defensive contributions. Gent is the highest-performing left-back in this department. He is good with his sliding tackles and can intercept the ball in dangerous areas.

 49.

 50.
Another area where Kent has impressed is in recovering the ball for his team. He likes to press for the ball and has made 27 counter-pressing recoveries in the offensive half. Some of these recoveries have even turned out into dangerous ones.

 51.
Contributions to attack

 52.

 53.
This plot evaluates the fullback’s effectiveness in one-on-one offensive situations, an important aspect of modern fullback play. Once again Gent is one of the top performers among other left-backs. He wins 50% of his offensive duels for the team.

 54.

 55.
The youngster has two assists to his name. He likes to deliver crosses into the box and finds a teammate quite often. Georgie attempts six passes to the penalty box per 90 minutes and 31% of these have been successfully delivered.

 56.

 57.
Gent also has a goal to his name. All his shots are attempted from a typical angle for any left-back. This shows that the youngster also has an eye for a goal.

 58.
These performances are being noted and Gent might be on the move this summer. Blackburn Rovers might also keep him and use him in the team. Only time will tell.

 77.

It has been an amazing journey for Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. After getting promoted to the top division last season, the team managed to maintain their first division status at the end of the season. They went into the second season with a better game plan and got the results. Currently, Kilmarnock are sitting fourth in the league table. The Killie are comfortably placed in that position, which is a big positive for their European ambitions. They could end up playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.

 78.
This is a collective effort of all players. They have played their best football and carried the team forward. One player who has kept his side in the hunt for Europe is their 33-year-old English striker, Marley Watkins. The former championship striker joined the club last summer. Having played for Aberdeen in Scotland, Watkins carried plenty of experience to this Kilmarnock side. He is a regular player in the team and delivers results. Let’s take a look at how Marley’s recent form is a big positive for his side’s European hopes.

 79.
Goal-poacher

 80.

 81.
Marley Watkins is a veteran of the game. He has played a lot of matches in his career and knows what he can do at his best at this age. The forward is making full use of his experience and often finds himself in great scoring positions. Watkins has netted nine goals in the Scottish Premiership. He averages around 1.53 shots per 90 minutes and 59% of these shots have found the target.

 82.
The above shot map shows that the veteran forward found space inside the penalty box on most occasions. He has also scored a few goals from inside the six-yard box.

 83.

 84.
Kilmarnock’s No. 23 is not a creative force. He has yet to provide an assist this season. Marley has tried to set up his teammates 14 times and they have failed to convert these chances. The player will expect a better outcome next time around.

 85.

 86.
Marley uses his experience in the final third and often recovers the ball in dangerous areas. The 33-year-old averages two recoveries in the attacking half per 90 minutes. Most of these were counter-pressing and some even turned into dangerous recoveries.

 87.
Red hot form

 89.
In the last five matches, Watkins has shown his class. The forward has scored goals and some even won crucial points for his team. By looking at the touch map we can observe that Watkins likes to drift towards the flanks, especially the left side. He has attempted 16 shots in the last five games and 11 have found the target. This shows how good he is in front of the goal.

 90.
Kilmarnock have an in-form striker in the team and this is a big positive. He is scoring goals and carrying his team. The Killie will hope for a top-four finish and play in Europe next season.

 109.

Scottish Premiership teams are battling hard to secure a place in the top half of the table. Soon the teams will be split into a Championship round and a relegation round. The top four teams are likely to make it to Europe. Over the years, Celtic and Rangers have occupied this spot at the top of the table. Hearts have shown consistency over the last couple of seasons and cemented their spot in the third place. The remaining teams fight for the fourth spot.

 110.
No team has shown consistency other than these three teams. This season, three teams are competing for that fourth spot in the league table. Kilmarnock, St. Mirren and Hibernian are in the race to gain that fourth spot. The Hibs were way behind the pack but one of their winter recruits has made the difference.

 111.
Myziane Maolida joined the Scottish club on loan from Hertha Berlin. After struggling for game time with the German club, Maolida decided to move away and join a team that would offer him a regular place in the playing 11. He is also a former Lyon and Nice player and has also represented the French national team from U-16 level to U-21 level. However, the forward is now representing the Comoros football team. As we are heading into the final phase of the season, here is a look at what this 25-year-old has added to Hibernian’s setup.

 112.
Threat down the left flank

 113.

 114.

 115.
Since he arrived at the club, Maolida has occupied a spot on the left side of the attack. He is a versatile attacker and can also play in the centre of the park. The two visuals above show the progressive runs made by the winger and how he likes to dribble past the defenders.

 116.
Myziane Maolida averages around three progressive runs per 90 minutes. He likes to take on defenders right on the edge of the penalty box. The forward has completed 56% of his dribbles. In addition to this, most of the crosses attempted by the forward have landed in dangerous attacking zones.

 117.
Goals galore

 118.

 119.
Myzaine Maolida scored his first game of the season in just his second Premiership game. This was a confidence booster for the forward. He has netted five goals in the current season, with four coming in the last five games.

 120.
The above shot map shows that Maolida is a typical winger and has attempted most of his shots from a wide angle. On some occasions, the winger has found space in front of the goal and scored all his goals from that angle. His accuracy rate is around 50% and that shows how much threat the 25-year-old possesses.

 121.

 122.
Adding to his five goals is one assist. Maolida’s ability to deliver key passes to dangerous zones makes him a threat against any team.

 123.
Overall, the 25-year-old has made a mark in Scottish football. Hibernian are sitting sixth in the league table and will look to finish at least fourth in the league standings.

Celtic and Rangers compete for the title, while other teams want to secure a place in Europe. In the last 2-3 seasons, only Hearts have come closer to these two giants in the league table. They started this season poorly but now are back in the business. One of the reasons behind their success in recent times is the form of the top goal-scorer in the league.

 195.
Lawrence Shankland is at the top of his game. He is leading the scoring chart in Scotland and is on a run of a goal-per-game. Shankland has scored 14 goals in as many games. His team are on a nine-match unbeaten run. The Scottish striker was linked with a move to Ibrox. However, Rangers never came with an offer and might go for him in the summer. A look at what Shankland has added to Hearts’ attack in recent times.

 196.
Season’s overview

 197.
The 28-year-old has led Hearts’ attack this season. He has netted 17 goals in 25 league games. Shankland took some time to find his form and has been on an excellent run. In the current season, Shankland averages 3.2 shots per 90 minutes and 37.5% of these shots have found the target.

 198.

 199.
This visual compares a player’s actual goals per shot to their expected goals per shot. Players consistently above the diagonal line convert chances at a better rate than expected, showcasing superior finishing. Shankland has a decent xG rate but has struggled a bit to convert these chances.

 200.

 201.
The above viz contrasts a striker’s overall attacking contribution with their shooting prowess. Those in the top right quadrant are not only involved in attacking moves but also frequently take shots. This time Shankland is ranked for shooting the ball but has less involvement in the attacking moves.

 202.

 203.
This visual highlights a striker’s proficiency at receiving the ball in the penalty area (Receive) and their goals per shot ratio. Top right quadrant players frequently get into dangerous positions and convert their chances effectively. Lawrence has received the ball more often but failed to convert his chances.

 204.
Dream run

 205.
All these visuals showed the overall performance of the forward in comparison to other No. 9s in the league. These numbers have improved in the last 14 games.

 206.

 207.
Hearts’ main man has created a lot of trouble for the opposition. He is all over the place inside and outside the penalty box. Shankland has netted 14 goals in 14 goals. He could and should have added three goals more. However, the striker missed three opportunities from the spot. His positioning has been excellent, especially inside the penalty box.

 208.

 209.
Another reason how Shankland has impressed is by winning fouls in attacking zones. The forward even won a penalty for his team.

 210.
Lawrence Shankland is one of the top-rated forwards in the league. He is on a goal-scoring run and will look to score more goals.

 229.

Aberdeen finished third in the Scottish Premiership 2022-23 season and qualified for Europe. The Dons played in the UEFA Conference League but got eliminated in the group stage. This season, things have not remained the same for the Scottish team. They are sitting in the bottom half of the table and behind the pace in the league. Aberdeen need their players to step up their game heading into the second half of the season.

 230.
Luís Henriques de Barros Lopes, commonly known as Duk, is the key player in Aberdeen’s attack. He joined the Scottish team last season. After representing Portugal at different age levels, the forward decided to switch nations and represent Cape Verde. As half of the season has passed, we take a look at how Duk has performed for the Dons this season.

 231.
Versatile forward

 232.

 233.
Duk has played as a centre-forward 53% of the time this season. He has shown a lot of versatility and spent 31% of the minutes playing as a left-winger. The 23-year-old has also played in the No. 10 role as well. Duk has 23 appearances for Aberdeen in the 2023-24 campaign.

 234.

 235.
Whenever Duk plays on the left he looks more comfortable in taking on defenders. The forward likes to stretch the opposition’s defence and has made some diagonal runs into the box. In the Scottish Premiership, Duk averages 2.2 progressive runs per 90 minutes. He averaged 1.7 progressive runs in the UEFA Conference League.

 236.

 237.
Players like Duk, who carry a lot of threats are often brought down to break the plays. The 23-year-old forward has been brought down 23 times on the field.

 238.
Attacking threat

 239.

 240.
In the current season, Duk has scored five goals. Of these five goals, two came in the Scottish Premiership and three in the UEFA Conference League. By looking at these shot maps we can observe that the forward has found space in and around the six-yard box. He has converted most of the chances and will look to score more in the remaining games.

 241.

 242.
The Cape Verde forward has created four goals for his team. These assists came in the form of low crosses and found a teammate around the six-yard box. This creativity makes him more of a threat in the team.

 243.

 244.
For strikers who drop deep and involve themselves in build-up play, this plot juxtaposes their link-up passing ability (Link) with their involvement in moves leading to goals (smgpi). Those in the top right quadrant are pivotal in both building and finishing moves. This viz shows that Duk has failed a bit to link up plays but has decent involvement in moves leading to goals.

 264.

Over the years, Hearts have been one of the top performers in the top division of Scottish football. The team has finished third behind Rangers and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and has shown some positive signs. This season, Hearts once again sit behind these two giants but have failed to impress like they did in the last 3-4 seasons.

 265.
Hearts just average a goal per game and this is the lowest scoring rate among the top eight teams currently ranked in the league. However, there are a few positive signs as their No. 9 is scoring goals at a decent rate. After a great 2022-23 season, Lawrence Shankland has made a decent start in the 2023-24 season. He has kept his side in the top half of the league table and has caught the eye of some of the big clubs. A look at some of Shankland’s stats shows why he is so highly rated and could earn a big-money move in the summer.

 266.

 267.
Lawrence Shankland has played in 17 league games and scored eight goals. The above viz shows his percentile rank in comparison to other centre-forwards in Tier 4 of league football. The 28-year-old forward lacks a bit in goal contributions but has been at the top of his game when we look at the other aspects.

 268.

 269.
Last season, Shankland scored 24 goals in the league and caught the eye of many. However, 11 of his goals came from the penalty spot and 13 from open play. This season, he has scored eight times from open play. Hearts are yet to win a penalty. The above visuals compare shot maps from the current and the previous season. Shankland’s scoring areas have been a bit similar and most often he has found space inside the six-yard box.

 270.

 271.
In the current season, Shankland averages 2.88 shots per 90 minutes but lacks a bit in accuracy. 33.33% of his shots have been on target and most of the shots have gone above the crossbar or to the right of the goalkeeper. Shankland will look to place more of his shots in the corner of the goal and score more goals in the remaining season.

 272.

 273.
Lawrence Shankland can create chances for his teammates. He has been unlucky as the 20 chances that were created failed to find the back of the net. Most of these shot chances have been created on the top of the penalty box. Shankland is yet to get into a more advanced area and deliver passes around the six-yard box.

 274.

 275.
The 28-year-old has a pure strikers instinct in the game. He recovers the ball well in attacking areas and mostly in and around the penalty box. These recoveries often lead to a shot-taking chance.

 276.
Lawrence Shankland will look to score more goals and keep his side in contention for a European spot. If he continues to score regularly then he might earn a move to higher-ranked clubs. As of now, he is focused on carrying Hearts to the top.

 295.

Liverpool have given chances to plenty of their youth players over the years. The club trusts the academy process and focuses on promoting more homegrown players rather than signing new ones. Some players find a straight route to the first team, while others have to find their way by impressing on loan spells. Liverpool youngsters are also in demand in Europe and one of them is currently trying his luck at Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

 296.
Owen Beck, a 21-year-old left-back joined the Scottish club to get more game time under his belt and this move has been a positive for this young talent. Beck’s performances for the Scottish team even earned him a first call-up for the Welsh international team in November. Dundee were promoted to the top division after winning the second division last season. Performing for an under-pressure side is not easy but Beck has shown what he can bring to any side. Here are his stats that show his growth in Scotland.

 297.
Positive approach

 298.

 299.
Owen Beck has been amazing in the attack, especially in the final third. He has already appeared in 14 Scottish Premiership games and averages 2.5 progressive runs per 90 minutes. The dribble’s success rate is 50% for the full-back but his success rate in the final third is exceptional.

 300.

 301.
Getting into attacking areas allows the player to make recoveries in dangerous attacking areas. In the current season, the player has made nine recoveries in the final third. These have been encouraging signs as three recoveries led to a shot within in the next 20 seconds.

 302.
Creativity at its best

 303.

 304.
Beck knows how to find a pass or two in a game. He is a set-piece taker and can create goals for his team. In the current season, Beck has delivered 26 shot assists and has an assist to his name. He tries to deliver two passes to the opposition penalty box per 90 minutes and delivers 43% of these passes.

 305.

 306.
Owen Beck has scored two back-to-back goals in the last two Scottish Premiership matches. Liverpool’s loanee has found himself in goal-scoring positions inside the penalty box. His average number of touches inside the opposition penalty box is 1.5 per 90 minutes. However, in the last two matches, the touches have gone up to three per 90 minutes. In addition, the player has seen most of his shots getting blocked inside the penalty box.

 307.
These performances are encouraging signs for the player and his parent club. The Welshman has also played at the international level and this will be a big boost in his career. Liverpool will assess his situation and might test him in the pre-season next summer.

 326.

Kilmarnock FC returned to the Scottish Premiership in the 2022–23 season after winning the second division in 2021–22. Survival in the top flight is always difficult for a promoted team, but Kilmarnock FC managed to do so. Over the last two to three seasons, only Celtic, Rangers, and Hearts have shown the consistency to remain in the top half of the table. Other clubs have witnessed a lot of ups and downs.

 327.
To survive, clubs like Kilmarnock depend a lot on individual capability. One such player in their squad is former Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Daniel Armstrong. The 26-year-old is in his eighth season in Scotland and has played for the likes of Ross County. This is his second season in the Scottish top tier. Playing on the right side of the attack, Armstrong has been a key figure for the Killie, and here are the stats that show why the team is dependent on their winger.

 328.
High work rate

 329.

 330.
Playing as a forward for a team battling in the bottom half of the table is not easy. A forward needs to get deeper to get the ball and is involved in a lot of defensive work. The above viz shows the percentile rank of Daniel Armstrong in comparison to other right-wingers in Tier 4 of football leagues around the world. It can be clearly observed that Armstrong is at the top of his game and is one of the best players in almost every department.

 331.

 332.
Danny Armstrong is a key and busy figure in the attack for the Scottish Premiership side. He likes to take on defenders on the right side and often beats them with his skills and pace. The above viz shows the dribbles and crossing zone of the player. He attempts 9.16 dribbles and 5.9 crosses per 90 minutes in the current season. His dribbling is decent with a 57% success rate, but crossing is low on accuracy with a 27.8% completion rate.

 333.
End product

 334.

 335.
Daniel Armstrong has three league goals to his name in the 2023-24 season. He is a typical winger who likes to cut inside and attempt his shots. The player averages just over two shots per 90 minutes. He lacks accuracy and has only managed to hit the target four times. Armstrong even missed a penalty.

 336.

 337.
Last season, the winger scored nine times and took shots from similar zones. He needs to be more accurate and might score more goals than his tally from last season.

 338.

 339.
The 26-year-old also has three assists to his name in the current season. He attempts 5.13 passes to the opposition penalty box and has a 51% accuracy rate. This shows the ability of the player and why he is a threat to any opposition’s defence.

 340.
Daniel Armstrong will look to improve his accuracy and aim to ensure his side’s safety way before the final game week.

 356.

Brighton have been one of the most impressive teams since their return to the top flight. They even made it to Europe in the 2023-24 season after an impressive 2022-23 season. Over the years, Brighton have produced some big talents in world football. Some of their young players have made it to the first team, and a few others have been scouted from different leagues.

 357.
One such talent who has risen from their youth academy is 20-year-old English defender Odeluga Offiah. He is a bright talent who has been loaned out to Hearts for the 2023-24 season. Having made a couple of Premier League appearances, it was not time for this 20-year-old to eye a breakthrough. Hearts have been one of the top performers in the Scottish Premiership over the last couple of years. Let’s take a look at what this young talent can add to the team.

 358.

 359.
Odeluga Offiah is a right-back and has made six appearances for Hearts combined in the Scottish Premiership and UEFA Conference League. Offiah is a versatile defender and can also play as a centre-back. In the current season, the defender has won 64.7% of his defensive duels. He is not a strong figure in the air and has a low success rate. The 20-year-old is trying to make his mark in Scottish football and will look for regular game time.

 360.
Impressive displays in 2022-23

 361.

 362.
After impressing with the Brighton U21 side, De Zerbi decided to give a couple of chances to this youngster with the first team in the Premier League. Overall, the defender played in four competitions in the 2022-23 season.

 363.
A strong player on the ground, Offiah won 79% of his defensive duels and made 11 recoveries per 90 minutes. His aerial ability is a bit of a drawback, and he will look to improve his aerial duel win rate in the coming games.

 364.

 365.
The youngster failed to contribute with a goal or an assist. However, he showed the desire to carry the ball to dangerous areas. Odeluga Offiah made 2.69 progressive runs per 90 minutes and had a 68.4% success rate for dribbles attempted. This high dribble success rate shows that this youngster has the potential and can contribute with an assist or two.

 366.

 367.
Having played for the Brighton first team and the U21 side, Offiah averaged 38 passes per 90 minutes and had an 83.7% accuracy rate. These included 1.24 passes to the penalty box and that too with a high accuracy rate of 83.3%. The above viz shows that Offiah likes to stay more towards the centre and is not a player who stretches the defence a lot.

 368.
Odeluga Offiah is still 20 and has a lot of time to make a breakthrough. Brighton are one of the most exciting teams over the last couple of seasons and getting into that side will be a big achievement for this young talent.
