The likes of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden have already established themselves on the bigger stage. Other players are catching these players’ pace and making a name for themselves. Manchester City’s academy has been one to watch out for recently.
20-year-old <a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cv2ydyzj9ydo">Georgie Gent</a> is another player who was a part of City’s academy but decided to join Blackburn Rovers’ youth setup in 2019. He signed his first professional contract in 2022 and was sent for a loan spell to <a href="https://www.scottishfootballanalysis.com/marley-watkins-kilmarnock-scottish-premiership-2023-24-data-stats-analysis-scout-report">Motherwell</a> at the start of the current season. It’s been a good season for the youngster as he is getting enough game time and delivering regular performances for his side. Let’s take a look at what this youngster is capable of doing on the field.

Georgie Gent is a left-back and has made 24 appearances for Motherwell this season. These include 14 starts for the club. The 20-year-old youngster has played as a left-back and a left-wing back for his club. The above viz shows the defensive territory of the player in all league matches. Gent has won 56% of his defensive duels, 38% of his aerial duels and 20% of his loose ball duels. His interception rate is high at 5.6 per 90 minutes. One area where the youngster has lacked is in giving away fouls in crucial zones. He has fouled the opposition inside the penalty box and on the edge of the box.

Another area where Kent has impressed is in recovering the ball for his team. He likes to press for the ball and has made 27 counter-pressing recoveries in the offensive half. Some of these recoveries have even turned out into dangerous ones.

Gent also has a goal to his name. All his shots are attempted from a typical angle for any left-back. This shows that the youngster also has an eye for a goal.
These performances are being noted and Gent might be on the move this summer. Blackburn Rovers might also keep him and use him in the team. Only time will tell.

Marley Watkins is a veteran of the game. He has played a lot of matches in his career and knows what he can do at his best at this age. The forward is making full use of his experience and often finds himself in great scoring positions. Watkins has netted nine goals in the Scottish Premiership. He averages around 1.53 shots per 90 minutes and 59% of these shots have found the target.

Kilmarnock’s No. 23 is not a creative force. He has yet to provide an assist this season. Marley has tried to set up his teammates 14 times and they have failed to convert these chances. The player will expect a better outcome next time around.

Over the years, Celtic and Rangers have occupied this spot at the top of the table. Hearts have shown consistency over the last couple of seasons and cemented their spot in the third place. The remaining teams fight for the fourth spot.
No team has shown consistency other than these three teams. This season, three teams are competing for that fourth spot in the league table. Kilmarnock, St. Mirren and Hibernian are in the race to gain that fourth spot. The Hibs were way behind the pack but one of their winter recruits has made the difference.
<a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cg3r8mz2kpwo">Myziane Maolida</a> joined the Scottish club on loan from Hertha Berlin. After struggling for game time with the German club, Maolida decided to move away and join a team that would offer him a regular place in the playing 11. He is also a former Lyon and Nice player and has also represented the French national team from U-16 level to U-21 level. However, the forward is now representing the Comoros football team. Since he arrived at the club, Maolida has occupied a spot on the left side of the attack. He is a versatile attacker and can also play in the centre of the park. The two visuals above show the progressive runs made by the winger and how he likes to dribble past the defenders.
Myziane Maolida averages around three progressive runs per 90 minutes. He likes to take on defenders right on the edge of the penalty box. The forward has completed 56% of his dribbles. In addition to this, most of the crosses attempted by the forward have landed in dangerous attacking zones.

Myzaine Maolida scored his first game of the season in just his second Premiership game. This was a confidence booster for the forward. He has netted five goals in the current season, with four coming in the last five games.
The above shot map shows that Maolida is a typical winger and has attempted most of his shots from a wide angle. On some occasions, the winger has found space in front of the goal and scored all his goals from that angle. His accuracy rate is around 50% and that shows how much threat the 25-year-old possesses.

Hearts’ main man has created a lot of trouble for the opposition. He is all over the place inside and outside the penalty box. Shankland has netted 14 goals in 14 goals. Luís Henriques de Barros Lopes, commonly known as <a href="https://www.transfermarkt.com/duktm/leistungsdaten/spieler/535959">Duk</a>, is the key player in Aberdeen’s attack. He joined the Scottish team last season. After representing Portugal at different age levels, the forward decided to switch nations and represent Cape Verde. As half of the season has passed, we take a look at how Duk has performed for the Dons this season.

Duk has played as a centre-forward 53% of the time this season. He has shown a lot of versatility and spent 31% of the minutes playing as a left-winger. The 23-year-old has also played in the No. 10 role as well. Duk has 23 appearances for Aberdeen in the 2023-24 campaign.

Whenever Duk plays on the left he looks more comfortable in taking on defenders. The forward likes to stretch the opposition’s defence and has made some diagonal runs into the box. In the Scottish Premiership, Duk averages 2.2 progressive runs per 90 minutes. He averaged 1.7 progressive runs in the UEFA Conference League.

In the current season, Duk has scored five goals. Of these five goals, two came in the Scottish Premiership and three in the UEFA Conference League. The Cape Verde forward has created four goals for his team. These assists came in the form of low crosses and found a teammate around the six-yard box. This creativity makes him more of a threat in the team.

This season, Hearts once again sit behind these two giants but have failed to impress like they did in the last 3-4 seasons.
Hearts just average a goal per game and this is the lowest scoring rate among the top eight teams currently ranked in the league. However, there are a few positive signs as their No. 9 is scoring goals at a decent rate. After a great 2022-23 season, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cxx39k1g9peo">Lawrence Shankland</a> has made a decent start in the 2023-24 season. He has kept his side in the top half of the league table and has caught the eye of some of the big clubs. A look at some of Shankland’s stats shows why he is so highly rated and could earn a big-money move in the summer.

The 28-year-old forward lacks a bit in goal contributions but has been at the top of his game when we look at the other aspects.

Last season, Shankland scored 24 goals in the league and caught the eye of many. However, 11 of his goals came from the penalty spot and 13 from open play. In the current season, Shankland averages 2.88 shots per 90 minutes but lacks a bit in accuracy. 33.33% of his shots have been on target and most of the shots have gone above the crossbar or to the right of the goalkeeper. Shankland will look to place more of his shots in the corner of the goal and score more goals in the remaining season.

Lawrence Shankland can create chances for his teammates. He has been unlucky as the 20 chances that were created failed to find the back of the net. Most of these shot chances have been created on the top of the penalty box. Shankland is yet to get into a more advanced area and deliver passes around the six-yard box.

The 28-year-old has a pure strikers instinct in the game. He recovers the ball well in attacking areas and mostly in and around the penalty box. These recoveries often lead to a shot-taking chance.

Owen Beck has been amazing in the attack, especially in the final third. He has already appeared in 14 Scottish Premiership games and averages 2.5 progressive runs per 90 minutes. The dribble’s success rate is 50% for the full-back but his success rate in the final third is exceptional.

Owen Beck has scored two back-to-back goals in the last two Scottish Premiership matches. Liverpool’s loanee has found himself in goal-scoring positions inside the penalty box.
