78.

So I’m kindof in the mood for the fun and flow of a 30 day project but without quite as much pressure and stress.

 79.
I know I’ve got some things going on this month and I’m still getting over the last of two colds that I’ve had for a month.

 80.
So I’m doing a kinder, gentler 28 day challenge to warm up my imagination in this cold, short February. Anyone want to join me?

 81.
And What the heck does that mean?

 82.
For me, I’m going jewelry themed this time. I’m starting with a few turquoise and bronze elephant necklaces that I’d made and I’m going to riff off them and see what else I come up with.

 83.
My “rules” (everyone should define their own):

 84.

 85.
I need to at least think about my project each day.

 86.
I want to complete at least 28 baby steps by the end of the month. That may not mean 28 completed pieces.

 87.
I’m starting with the idea of creating a jewelry collection.

 88.
But detours are allowed.

 89.
I will have fun.

 90.

 91.
And technically I started yesterday since I have a late work deployment coming up one of the nights.

 92.
Steps so far:

 93.
1. Put away jewelry supplies from my earring class.

 94.
2. Made a Pinterest board with some of my pieces and other cool stuff and started brainstorming ideas.

 95.
3. Contacted web support and got my blog back online when I realized it was down. Totally unplanned but I’m counting it!

 96.
4. Printed a mood sheet (smaller than a mood board) and pinned it up over my jewelry table.

 97.

 185.
Should I add a touch of grey and black like the real gull has, or leave it alone?

 186.
So, the challenge overall…

 187.
You may have noticed this is piece 23 and today is the 27th so I’m a little bit behind.

 188.
It’s been busy, I did a fair number of multi-day pieces, and the last couple days I’ve felt a bit under the weather. Not too bad, just really really tired like I’m fighting something off.

 189.
And I still have to do a last minute tax form for RI before the end of the month. (Don’t ask me why they only send it 10 days before it’s due.)

 190.
I’m planning to catch up if I can, but I’m not too worried about it.

 191.
I’ve had fun. I’ve been consistently sculpting. And I made a lot of work I’m really proud of.

 192.
It’s been a success either way.

 193.
Now I have to decide between a nap and going back to the studio… I’m really not sure which will win

 213.
I like how it came out, but I think the real strength of the translucent white is with smoother sculptures like the frog.

 214.
I think the wolf would have looked better all white at a larger scale.

 215.
It’s only 2.5″ high and I thought it needed a bit more contrast, so I did use some acrylic paint to add a touch of depth to the trees and fur.

 216.
What do you think? Should I have left it alone?

 217.
I’m thinking of molding this one and doing a couple variations, so it’s not too late to give me your opinion.

 236.
The nice thing about the blog is I can give a few more details.

 237.
This is a miniature – only 3 inches wide – based on a photo of a bullfrog.

 238.
This was another 3 to 1 mix of Cernit Doll White (which is practically translucent) to regular White (which is still partially translucent). I really love this combination. I’d like to try some larger pieces with it later on.

 239.
The eye is green irridescent glass, although it looks darker in contrast to the white clay. Frog’s pupils are actually rather football shaped so I could add a little paint on the bead, but I’m not sure it needs it.

 240.
I was originally going to sculpt more of a background, but simple, smooth shapes look so gorgeous in this color, and I liked the smoothness of the background.

 241.
And maybe it’s just because I’ve been more careful about cleaning my hands, but the Cernit doesn’t seem to pick up as many smudges as Premo. I’ll have to do a one to one comparison at some point to see.
