This is not to say that I thought child abuse was fine and dandy before I had my baby. Its just that now, I know what it feels like to love like a mother, making it all the more baffling to me that another mother could just shut that feeling off without batting an eye.
2.
3. For those of you who don't know what its like: it is the kind of love that causes you to check on your sleeping baby every 4 seconds just to make sure he hasn't stopped breathing, its the kind of love that makes you walk home from a wild raging party after half an hour because cuddling with your baby just seems way more appealing than playing beer pong with your friends and drunkenly learning how to dance "The Charleston". Its the kind of love that makes you worry that your using the wrong diaper rash cream, whether letting your baby use an ExerSaucer is safe or not, whether baby sunscreen contains heavy metals...It makes you marvel at their perfection. And it makes you want to personally choke to death anyone who has caused their child, or any other child pain, sadness, or grief. And you can't even stand to entertain the thought of someone hurting your own child.
4.
5. Like I said, I've been wondering about this for awhile, but today I met a woman. This woman was 64 years old, and was single- handedly raising her 3 year old grandson. She was very open and candid about the situation she had found herself in 3 years ago: her son, a meth addict and his meth/heroine addict girlfriend conceived a baby and shortly thereafter, they were both arrested for drug possession. The 19 year old girl was given methadone while in prison to treat her for narcotic withdrawals. When she went into labor, they took her to a hospital, handcuffed her to the bed, and she gave birth to a drug- addicted, but otherwise healthy baby boy, all by herself, with no one at her side but a doctor and a nurse. The baby was taken away immediately and after a couple of days, the girl returned to her prison cell.
6.
7. The child's grandmother fought for custody of the boy and he is now under her care. All I can say is thank god the boy has a grandmother who can be there for him- many children are not so lucky.
8.
9. This whole story is just heartbreaking but the part that really depresses me is that the girl was released from prison after some time, and instead of staying clean and working on bettering herself and trying to take care of her son, she gets thrown back in the slammer on drug- related charges. The father of the child is constantly in and out of prison so he obviously has no intentions of raising his own son, either. How could a living, breathing Mother (or Father) with a beating heart choose drugs over their own sweet baby?? These types of situations just sicken me. Sometimes I wish I could take care of all these unloved and abused children myself.
10. I mean, there are countless victims of child abuse out there, and even more in heaven (or wherever) and I am so heartbroken by it.
11.
12. I mean, recently, a father tortured and starved his 3 year old daughter to death! I mean, a sweet, beautiful little angel baby girl. Seriously. Read the story about Alexis Pounder here. I mean, what kind of a demon is possessing these people?
13. And these are the types of situations where I can't help but think that an abortion would have been a good idea. I mean, wouldn't it have been better to let these babies meet their maker as pure, innocent beings instead of needlessly subjecting them to the abuse and neglect perpetrated by their deranged, degenerate parents?
14.
15. All I know is that Alexis Pounder's father is going to get beat to death in prison. Even criminals on death row know the difference between a common murderer and a sick and twisted pervert with no shred of humanity left in him and a soul as black as the devil's pupils.
16.
17. Anyway, my new year's resolution for 2010 is not to say "fuck"
18. oh, damn.
http://somethingtobesickin.blogspot.com/

Addicted to the Shindig

my boy listening to red hot chili peppers and rockin the cloth diaper
21. So its been a long-ass time since I've updated this thang. I sincerely apologize to my multitude of readers out there (not!) haha
22.
23. ANYWAYS
24. I have a funny story to tell you.
25. Okay SO, remember how I lived in a cult for almost a year only a short while ago?
26. Well, I went to visit them last weekend because one of my friends (in the cult/community) was getting married and I wanted to help with decorations and give her some sex tips (since they marry as virgins and have never so much as HUGGED each other until the night of their wedding).
27. So, I go over there to help out and of course, I see my friend John, who is a 40-something year old ex-language professor from Baltimore. He "gave up his life" about 2 years ago in order to join the community and follow Yashuah (the Hebrew name for Jesus) but he's still really down-to-earth and even slightly irreverent- which is why we got along so well. He is really smart and has the same sardonic sense of humor that I do.
28.
29. And somewhere between telling my friend about the birds and the bees and trying to get the smell of weed and alcohol out of the honeymoon cabin (a little house down the street from the cult that had been previously occupied by drug dealers from Siam) I ended up outside in the mud and rain, in the dark, helping John load rotting deer guts into a warm refrigerator.
30.
31. Okay, so I was holding the flashlight for him while he loaded rotting deer guts into a warm refrigerator in the rain.
32. Apparently, someone had given him the fridge (and the guts) for his chickens to eat. One one condition: he had to move the fridge from behind the barn that night- which was especially muddy and rainy and dark. So somehow I ended up out there lighting up for him the night with a dim pocket flashlight that hardly even worked.
33.
34. And meanwhile, he's telling me about how this transvestite dude who just joined the cult had broken into his chicken's habitat in order to steal some expired pumpkin pies that he had planned on feeding them. When John caught him, he told him to stop but the transvestite just yelled at him "SURRENDER THE PIES" and ran off with them. Apparently, he had tried feeding them to some of the community children but was stopped by their mothers who didn't want their kids getting food poisoning from eating some expired pumpkin pies that had been sitting in a chicken coop for over 18 hours.
35.
36. And now you know why I miss living in the community sometimes.
http://somethingtobesickin.blogspot.com/

High Times (Yeah, I feel Fine...)

SO, how many people have seen this?

http://www.usdebtclock.org/

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of
$3.88 billion per day since September 28, 2007. Meaning that in order to pay off the debt, each U.S. citizen would have to cough up $344,767. And most of that would just go towards paying back China and Japan for footing the American bill. Leaving no money left to go out for ice cream afterward!

I'm sure everyone can relate, but lately all I hear about is "catastrophic economic disaster" this and "impending doom" that.
and yes, these are really tough times for the people whose 401(k)'s have been dissolved, for the homeowners who couldn't make their mortgage payments and the people who have lost their jobs, but still have mouths to feed.

but really, why not just LET IT FAIL!?
this system is not sustainable and never was!

let me explain:
The American author and social critic, James Howard Kunstler wrote a very curious book:

World Made By Hand focuses on a small community of people in Upstate New York who survive the unraveling of the modern world. It is set in post- peak oil America after the downfall of the economy and the capitulation of the government. Money, cars, and electronic gadgets are nothing but specters of what once was- and have been rendered useless. Now, everyone has returned to a simple, agricultural lifestyle. There are rumors that there may be a president and that he may be somewhere in the Midwest but no one knows for sure- and people are generally left to themselves, taking survival and security measures into their own hands.
The novel seems prophetic in many ways with the exception of one thing- in the book, the government just sort of "fades into the sunset," peacefully.

I doubt we will be so lucky- about the government part.

BUT- it is blatantly obvious that we are swiftly headed towards living the life described in this book.
A government collapse is inevitable.
The main reason being that it can no longer keep itself afloat financially. The U.S. Gov't is currently functioning at a deficit and China has become tired of buying U.S. debt.
Keith Bradsher of The New York Times writes: "China has bought more than $1 trillion of American debt, but as the global downturn has intensified, Beijing is starting to keep more of its money at home, a move that could have painful effects for American borrowers."

Why do empires fail?
well, one major reason is BECAUSE THEY RUN OUT OF MONEY!

Also, the gap between the rich and the rest of the population has grown to a record high. the wealthiest one percent of the population have never had it better, while the remaining 99% of the population (the middle class and the poor) have never suffered harder in all of history. Middle class people between ages 55-60 who have worked for 20-30 years have lost an average of 25% off their 401(k). Meanwhile, the wealth of the 400 most affluent Americans has increased by $30 billion dollars (combined, that equals $1.57 trillion)

And the final nail in the U.S. Coffin will be Obama.
"I don’t mean to dismiss the Obama myth, his words, the change we need is real, its just his actions don’t even come close to measuring up. Just read the legal documents he has signed his name to. Read them. His actions are most often the opposite of what he says. I venture to say a 10 year old can recognize that after doing a school day’s worth of research.
Obama is a national tragedy. He is a symbol of the times. He is not a leader, just a symbol. He projects the change we need. He was our shortcut to correcting our diseased political system, a way to rid it of corruption. He symbolized the change millions so desperately need. People came out in the millions for the first time "hoping" if they could work and organize to put him in office, we would have some representation to defend against the economic elite that have put the overwhelming majority of US politicians on the payroll and brought humanity to a breaking point.

People just need to research how the Obama myth was hatched. Goldman Sachs saw Obama early on and said, "He's our guy!" When Obama became THE MAN in Iowa, he was on the Goldman Sachs payroll. Goldman financed the psychological operation that is the Obama myth, the Illusion of HOPE - something to keep a suffering nation pacified just a little bit longer. Obama is truly a national tragedy. His failure and inaction has disillusioned millions upon millions of desperate citizens who turned to him as their best chance for justice.

As further evidence of Obama’s duplicity - beyond repeatedly signing his name to documents covering up the Bush Adminstration’s highest crimes and increasing an already bloated military budget - in one of his very first moves as President he put Goldman Sachs’ criminal mastermind Tim Geitner in charge of the treasury.

A new report from the TARP Inspector General further exposes Tim Geithner’s role "in overpayments that put billions of extra tax dollars in the coffersof major Wall Street firms, most notably Goldman Sachs."

Which brings us to the ultimate theft of wealth in history, and to the root cause of our current crisis." (DeGraw)

Never before has the U.S. Government screwed its own people so horribly. The average citizen is functioning with very little means, almost no income and crippling debt.

All that being said, I was glad to read these fun facts:

* The gun and ammunition manufacturing industry in the United States has over 200 companies producing billions of dollars in annual revenues. This huge manufacturing base cannot fulfill demand quickly enough. The demand for guns and ammunition has hit a record high and the gun industry cannot produce enough bullets to keep up with orders.

* In the past year, 100 new armed militia groups have been formed, as militia members have doubled in numbers. Federal authorities are gravely concerned about the "uptick in militia activities." One federal authority recently said, "All it’s lacking is a spark. I think it’s only a matter of time before you see threats and violence." (DeGraw)

The good news is that the enemy has made itself known- and if these gun- toting militias can keep their heads screwed on straight, they can keep from destroying eachother and go after the increasingly corrupt U.S. government. Who knows what kind of madness can be spawned by such a situation as this? Fifty million people who are desperate, broke, starved and armed are just supposed to sit back and watch while the richest one percent of the population flaunt their hedonism before everyone's eyes? Yeah fucking right! Obviously, there are still some ballsy Americans out there, ready to bring the scenario in World Made By Hand to fruition, instead of just withering up and dying like many people will.

Oh well

BRING IT ON!!

http://somethingtobesickin.blogspot.com/

About New York

(some time last year)

The City's piled high with store- bought junk yards
& one thing i Love about the East Coast is no one minds all the road-side graveyards
You take the Jersey Turnpike and just know your goin' DOWN
Such a severe contrast between this town and that town and the city we mistook for a town

Its where flawless teeth and hair and eyes
hover steadily above tacky neck ties

And every face grins real sincere- like
until some Hassidic kids cross the street in their tin-can road bikes
[in which they DARE to undermine the bloodthirsty cab drivers
who serve as every businessman's designated ride]

And in the summer, every building is deceitfully dehumidified inside
so all the cougars and barflies can comfortably feed on the frat guys

And the Jersey Shore is littered with more divorced women reading romance novels that you'd find at a discount paperback bookstore

But at night, the city forgets our names
and we're left alone to hurl at eachother the rocks inside our brains
Unaware of the fact that we've lost track
of who should really take the blame
http://somethingtobesickin.blogspot.com/

on a greasy paper plate while drunk as hell

September 28, 2007

I was blinded by the light produced by the structure fire flame and I felt grateful to possess the right to turn and look away and as I relished in my freedom, I overheard somebody say that I'd been turned away so long I couldn't appreciate the fire's violent grace or the way the cracks in the pavement still resemble your lover's face or how you
reeeally
gotta
leave
but you still really want to stay..
the fact that murder can be justified in the name of self- defense
how there's no self- inflicted cure for the feeling of irrelevance.
and how flawless the acting was in the last scene of your life
how you've exchanged your hope of finding love for an avid lust for life
how good you have become at painting on a smile.
HOW LONG DOES IT HAVE TO BE... TO BE CONSIDERED A LONG WHILE ?
And its dangerous that we've become accustomed to microwaveable convenience
how all that redundant talking only leaves you in your silence
.the way we'll never know how it feels to really starve to death
how chilling it can be to feel another's warming breath.
& how your memory (though hazy) recalls exactly how it felt
to be returned like a library book and placed back upon a dusty shelf.
http://somethingtobesickin.blogspot.com/

The Sun May Rise in the East

at least
it settles in a fine location.

Well... although I have been out here on the East coast for a year now, I'm still not sold on the whole scene. I miss the constant sunshine, the slow pace, the good local bands and the micro- breweries of Southern California.

Actually, some things I do not miss are the hyper-active law enforcement, the effing liberals, the insurmountable cost of living and the bad air quality.

Anyway, now I'm in Northern Virginia and there's nothing I can do about it.

SO...a few things about me:
-I am 22 yrs old but I feel like I've lived a lifetime already
-I stayed at a religious community (some would call it a 'cult') for the past year because my husband asked me to "give it a try"- (yeah, it wasn't for me)
-I have a 6 month old son, who I gave birth to in my own bed- with no medical intervention whatsoever
-I was born in Louisiana, grew up in SoCal til I was 15 then went back to Louisiana to live with my grandma who made me attend a Catholic college prep school (yes, uniforms and all...)
-I work for a newspaper based out of Massachusetts called the Berkshire Beacon
-I want to open up a bakery/cafe called "Tangled up in Brew" (a pun on the Bob Dylan song, "Tangled up in Blue") but I don't have the money to do it, so if you have money, give it me! please!!
-I effing love music and
-I make a lot of art and write a lot of (non-gay) poetry

That's all for now. I hope people actually read this thing..otherwise I'll continue writing stuff in my dang stupid diary
http://somethingtobesickin.blogspot.com/
