How terrible. I need to get back into my weekly rhythm.
2.
3. I can't say that I have been too busy, though I have hardly been idle. I kind of ended up burying myself under loads of different projects, and I was traveling besides. And then I wasn't traveling but I was getting myself settled in a new country. And now... Well, tomorrow I start grad school!
4.
5. Exciting stuff, but let me start over.
6.
7. I live now in Osaka, Japan and I love it! I am the assistant academic supervisor at this brand new English Village - the first of its kind here in Japan. It's pretty fun to work there - my coworkers are awesome and I truly believe in the concept as an effective way to improve language speaking ability.
8.
9. I do miss my friends back in Seoul, but I take to this country in a way I never did in Korea. So I'm looking forward to writing about my adventures!
10.
11. As I mentioned, tomorrow is the first day of classes. I'm finally starting on my master's degree in linguistics! Temple university has campuses in Tokyo and in Osaka, and I can start on my master's as a non-matriculated student - that is, without being accepted into the school first. As it had been about 10 years since the last time I had been in a class, seeking out an academic reference that many grad schools required was a bit of a struggle. This way, I can bypass that requirement for the first three courses, and then when it is finally time to apply, I will have those professors to give me recommendations!
12.
13. I just have to make sure I do well! I'm a tad nervous...
14.
15. Besides that, I've also decided to take part in the 52frames challenge. 52frames is a community of photographers - from the barely even amateur (like myself) to the quite professional - who participate in submitting a weekly photo in response to that week's challenge. I already feel like I will be spending each week rushing to get my photo ready, but it's exciting and I hope it will jumpstart my creativity and help me become more comfortable behind a camera.
16.
17. Actually, in order to kill two birds with one stone, I will probably also write a post about each picture process here. So, hooray - content!
18.
19. More again soon...

G'day from Melbourne!

Long overdue post, but better late than never! I'm posting from a bench by the Yarra River in Melbourne. Near Southgate center, or whatever this place is. (I kind of went for a random wander.)

 20.

 21.

 22. I've been in Australia for about a week and a half now, just exploring. My friend, Issi, and I will be setting off on a road trip soon, but while she's been at work, I decided to see what Tasmania and Melbourne is all about.

 23.

 24.

 25.

 26. I really like both! The weather has been pretty great, though colder than I expected. Melbourne has a very chill vibe. Good place to just wander. I think it's because for a city, the car traffic doesn't seem so overwhelming. I don't know. It's probably just because it's so nice and sunny today. Plus I found a nice library right on the water that I nearly spent my entire day at, if it hadn't been for the fact that I should tour Melbourne and it was too nice to stay inside. I even indulged in an ice cream cone.

 27.

 28.

 29.

 30. It goes without saying that I have finished my teaching contract in South Korea, and it was a very bittersweet goodbye. However, I'm very excited to say that I will be moving to Japan in a few weeks to teach!

 31.

 32.

 33.

 34. My coding projects have been put on hold during this transition period but I will be definitely be getting right back on it when I'm re-settled. So, keep an eye out for new things!

 35.

 36.

 37.

 38. Cid is still very much the little troublemaker, but he's made a few more friends and added a few more sights to his belt (or backpack, as it were). I'm thinking he needs his own Instagram. I'll get on that soon.

 39.

 40.

 41.

 42. Anyway, off I go again!

 43.

 44.

 45.

 46. Anyways, I'm still alive!

 48.
49. I keep finding more things to change. As it is, I'm not entirely happy with this blog engine. I'm using an RSS feed to display my posts here, but I'm finding myself too limited with regards to the kinds of posts that I can create. Well, to fix this issue, I've got to do another big overhaul -- because I want to maintain the freedom I have with regards to site design.
50.
51. Work work work. I'll have something interesting to post here sooner or later.

Yeesh

So, I'm overall, generally happy with the design of my website. It still needs some tweaks here and there, but moreso I need content! And that means I actually need to get out and do stuff!
52.
53. I was also thinking of starting to create a series of videos -- you know, to add different kinds of media to the site. And I'm probably going to add a section on my site devoted to teaching ESL, since that's a pretty big part of my life.
54.
55. To be honest, my life is going to be a bit harried -- it's crunch time! I have about three months left on my current contract, and I am going to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off just trying to get my life in order in preparation for my departure.
56.
57. Where am I going next? Only thing for certain is a road-trip in Australia, but besides that... who knows?

Chuncheon Mimefest

Well, I suppose it's about time I actually write something travel related.
58.
59. This past weekend, I went with some friends to Chuncheon. Besides never having been, Mimefest was happening out there and it came pretty highly recommended by friends who had attended previous years.
60.
61. It was a pretty brief trip considering we had a really late start, and a pretty long way to go from Seoul -- nevermind Incheon, which was where I was coming from. Chuncheon is out east of the city, accessible on the ITX or by korail train.
62.
63. Well, we arrived out there around 10pm or so -- I told you, we had a late start -- but it was fine since the festival was running until 5am. After checking into a room, we immediately went for dalkgalbi (닭갈비) - chicken barbecue.
64.
65. So it's said that Chuncheon was where dalkgalbi came from, though the exact restaurant that founded this dish is uncertain -- they seem to all claim they were the first. There's a street that's devoted to dalkgalbi restaurants named Dalkgalbi Golmok (닭갈비골목), and the moment you turn into the narrow path, you are bombarded with the scent of chicken barbecue.
66.
67. Frankly, dalkgalbi was never my favorite form of Korean barbecue, but the stuff we had out there -- delicious! Being on the small side, I have made a name for myself amongst my friends as having one of the smallest appetites -- which the guys love as they get to chow down on my leftovers -- but I found myself eating a surprising amount. Definitely more than usual. I wasn't eating because I was hungry, I was eating because it was good!
68.
69. Here's Cid waiting for the dalkgalbi to cook.
70.

 71.

 72.
73. There's two kinds -- the stuff you see in the picture up above is very saucy and has a lot of lettuce and ddeok. I love it with cheese -- it tends to temper the spice a bit. Sunday, for lunch, we got sootbul dalkgalbi (숫불닭갈비), which is spicy marinated chicken on a grill, as opposed to the normal saucy dish. Both good, but I would recommend the original.
74.
75. Mimefest was... well, it seems like we didn't pick the right night to go. There were some nice shows, but overall it was a bit underwhelming. Especially since being fairly shorter than average meant I struggled to get a good view of each performance, though every now and then I found something to stand on, and a friend was briefly gracious enough to hoist me up on his shoulders for awhile.
76.
77. Oh well. I wouldn't write it off though if I got a chance to go again next year. I had a pretty good time and there really were some cool performances.
78.
79. And a bonfire.
80.
81.

 82.

 83.
84.
85. Alas, I didn't really take any pictures. There wasn't much for me to take unless you wanted to see the back of people's heads.
86.
87. Oh! Amusing anecdote: in all their wisdom, they shot off some fireworks directly above a crowd of people, and not even particularly high up into the air. Ash rained down all over us, and a large chunk of something even smacked me in the arm, so it wasn't long before we beat a retreat. Yup, Korea is all about safety, let me tell you. All about safety.
88.
89. Anyway. Chuncheon. Go. Eat dalkgalbi. Avoid getting ash in your eyes.

Interactivity!

Guess what?
90.
91. You see that pile of pictures up above? Do you want a better look? Well, shuffle them around then! If you click on them, you can see it even better.
92.
94.
95. Haha, can you tell I'm having a bit of fun creating this website?

Goodness

Well, I hope that was worth it.
96.
97. I ended up staying up all night working on the design of this site. There would be little things that would bug me and I just couldn't let it go.
98.
99. What do you think? Worth it? I think it's nice...
100.
102.
103. It's not quite ideal, but I've figured out a way to display an rss feed on my site -- which will make it easier for me to write blogs. There are certain parts of the display that I don't quite like -- such as a bit of difficulty in adjusting the design -- but it'll be an on-going project.
104.
105. Well, looks like studying html and css has paid off! Soon, I'll be able to get back to writing actual posts again.
