Sometimes in rugby, the best moments aren’t the ones that happen on the field.

They’re in the locker room, in the hotels, or in the casual conversations between matches.

One moment that sticks with me happened during the 2017 British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand—right after a midweek game against the Chiefs.

The first Test against the All Blacks was only a few days away, and even though most of us had a pretty solid idea of who was going to be in the starting XV, Warren Gatland walked in and said, “We haven’t picked the team yet.”

That’s when James Haskell, or “Hask,” interrupted with a deadpan, “Boys, there’s still a chance,” and the whole room burst out laughing.

From “Bin Juice” to Test Players

That moment turned into a kind of running joke.

Hask had coined the term “bin juice” for the midweek players—himself included.

It was a tongue-in-cheek label, but ironically, two so-called “bin juicers,” Elliot Daly and Liam Williams, ended up in the Test team.

Even though we laughed about it at the time, part of me always felt that the phrase took something away from the value those midweek players brought.

Take Rory Best, for example—he was often called the “midweek captain,” but honestly, he was one of the most important guys on that tour.

A true leader, even if he wasn’t in the Test lineup.

Chatting Lions History with Ronan O’Gara

Fast forward to now, I’m in Australia with Ronan O’Gara, both of us working on the Lions tour coverage for Sky Sports.

We’ve got our families out here and our kids are constantly playing together—makes it feel a bit like a summer camp with rugby thrown in.

We’ve had a lot of good conversations, especially about the old tours.

Ronan told me stories from the 2005 tour in New Zealand, which really sounded divided—very much a “them and us” atmosphere.

Brian O’Driscoll mentioned that even though he’s great mates with Denis Hickie, they barely saw each other on that tour.

That kind of split never happened on the tours I was part of.

Playing Both Roles Brings Perspective

Having been both a midweek player and a Test starter myself, I understand both sides.

When you’re not in the main squad, it’s easy to question your role.

But once you are in the Test team, you learn to value what those squad players contribute.

I never felt a disconnect within the Lions teams I played for, but let’s be honest—there will always be players who don’t make the cut, and managing that energy in the camp is crucial.

Andy Farrell Wouldn’t Stand for That Talk

One thing I don’t see happening on this tour? The “bin juice” label making a comeback.

Andy Farrell isn’t that kind of coach. His approach is built on giving everyone a fair shot.

You can see it in the way he rotates the Ireland squad.

He wouldn’t allow any talk that undermines players who aren’t in the starting lineup.

The good news this time around is that the lines between starters and backups feel much more blurred.

Everyone seems genuinely in the mix.

Where the Real Battles Are Happening

Right now, the most hotly contested spots are in the back-row and on the bench.

The backline feels mostly settled—guys like Jamison Gibson-Park, Finn Russell, James Lowe, and Tommy Freeman seem locked in.

But when it comes to flanker and bench roles, it’s wide open.

The Irish centres have a slight edge over the Scots, and Hugo Keenan can easily step in if Blair Kinghorn is fit.

Personally, I think players like Henry Pollock, Jac Morgan, Tadhg Beirne, and Ben Earl have a big opportunity today.

Those flank jerseys are still up for grabs.

Some Names Are Already Inked In

Of course, some players are safe bets. Dan Sheehan, Maro Itoje, Jamison Gibson-Park, and Finn Russell are almost certainly going to feature prominently.

But for the rest? It’s game on.

Enjoying the Journey Down Under

And just to round things off—I made the trip to Australia with Qatar Airways, recently named the world’s number one airline.

The flight was smooth, the service top-tier. Honestly, the whole experience down here—from working alongside great rugby minds to sharing it all with family—has been something special.

When 18-year-old Cody Vlasek and his family evacuated their home in Kerr County, Texas, he believed they were saying goodbye to everything they had—especially their beloved dog, who had to be left behind in the chaos of the rising floodwaters.

But what happened next was something straight out of a movie.

A Sudden Escape from Rising Waters

It all started in the middle of the night when the Vlasek family—Cody and his parents—woke up to the sound of heavy rainfall pounding on their roof.

When Cody stepped outside with his dad to check on things, they were shocked to find water already creeping into their backyard.

The river, nearly 30 feet away, had surged toward their home much faster than anyone expected.

They had little time to think. The current was already strong enough to knock them off balance.

Realizing how serious the situation was, Cody shouted that they had to evacuate immediately.

Grabbing what they could, they fled to a neighbor’s house uphill—barely making it out as water reached waist level.

Returning to Rubble and Heartbreak

Once the floodwaters began to recede, the Vlaseks returned to what used to be their home.

But there was no home left. Just rubble, twisted debris, and heartbreak. They had lost everything. And their dog, the family feared, was gone forever.

Cody, a high school senior, struggled to process the loss—not just of his childhood home, but of his furry best friend.

But then, something unexpected happened.

The Sound That Changed Everything

As Cody was picking through the wreckage, he suddenly heard a faint sound. S

cratching. A soft whimper.

“I had to break a window to get in,” he told KENS5, a local news station.

“When I climbed through, I heard it—scratching, a little cry.

I turned the corner and there he was, floating in the washer.”

Against all odds, their dog had survived by taking shelter inside the washing machine—a miracle moment that brought a glimmer of hope in the middle of so much loss.

A Flood That Took Too Many Lives

While the Vlaseks were lucky to have survived, others in Kerr County were not.

The flood, triggered by relentless rainfall, has now claimed more than 129 lives.

At least 160 people are still unaccounted for.

Tragically, among those killed were 27 young girls from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls.

Many of the youngest campers—some under the age of 10—had been staying in riverside cabins and couldn’t escape in time.

Questions Mount Over Delayed Warnings

As the search for the missing continues, local officials are facing growing criticism over the lack of timely flood alerts.

Residents and families of victims are demanding answers as to why evacuation orders came so late—if at all.

When President Donald Trump visited the area on Friday with First Lady Melania Trump and other Republican leaders, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz, he was pressed on this issue.

When a reporter asked why warnings weren’t sent out sooner, Trump lashed out: “Only a bad person would ask a question like that.

To be honest with you, I don’t know who you are, but only a very evil person would ask a question like that.”

Texas Vows to Keep Searching

Despite the controversy, Governor Abbott said that rescue teams remain committed to locating every missing person.

“We are unrelenting,” he tweeted on Friday night.

“The families deserve nothing less.”

As public frustration grows over unanswered questions in the Jeffrey Epstein saga, newly released flight logs are reigniting suspicions—especially because of what isn’t in them.

Despite claims from Trump-era officials that there’s nothing left to uncover, the heavily blacked-out records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request tell a different story.

Flight Logs Reveal Patterns but Hide Names

The Daily Mail recently obtained over 1,500 pages of flight records covering Epstein’s infamous private jet—the “Lolita Express”—between 2010 and 2019.

The documents list trips to Epstein’s properties across the U.S. and abroad, from New York and London to his secluded island in the Caribbean.

But here’s the catch: nearly every passenger name has been redacted.

Only Epstein’s name appears clearly.

This is a sharp contrast to previous court-released flight logs that openly named well-known individuals, including powerful figures like Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew.

Lawmakers Push Back Against the Secrecy

Representative Tim Burchett, a longtime advocate for full transparency in the Epstein case, didn’t hold back.

“It should all be made public,” he told the outlet.

He believes the real criminal activity took place on Epstein’s private island—and without full disclosure, the public may never know the full truth.

Burchett even hinted at a larger cover-up, voicing concern that critical evidence might have been deliberately hidden or destroyed.

Trump World Divided Over Epstein Files

The issue has stirred a rift within the MAGA camp. A recent DOJ and FBI memo concluded that no further review of Epstein-related documents was necessary.

That decision came as a surprise, especially since Attorney General Pam Bondi had earlier claimed she had a list of high-profile Epstein clients sitting on her desk, ready for public release.

Even Donald Trump, visibly annoyed by the ongoing focus on Epstein, addressed the matter during a cabinet meeting.

“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? That’s unbelievable,” he reportedly snapped.

A Closer Look at the Redactions

The newly released logs aren’t just vague—they’re strategically censored.

Passenger names, flight crew members, and even known victims of Epstein’s abuse were all removed under claims of “personal privacy” or law enforcement confidentiality.

That includes names like Karyna Shuliak, Epstein’s girlfriend from Belarus, and Nadia Marcinko, a pilot and victim who allegedly suffered repeated abuse.

Even Ghislaine Maxwell—his longtime associate—does not appear in the logs, despite being a licensed helicopter pilot known to have traveled with him.

Old Records Tell a Different Story

What’s strange is that the same types of logs from the 1990s and early 2000s were made public during legal proceedings in 2008 and 2016.

They included names of many passengers, both celebrities and victims, and were used in lawsuits related to Epstein’s abuse and alleged cover-ups.

That earlier openness stands in stark contrast to the extreme redactions seen in the new batch of files, which span up until Epstein’s final flight to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey—just before his 2019 arrest.

Epstein’s Lawyer Once Requested the Same Files

Here’s an odd twist: these exact documents were previously requested back in 2014 by Epstein’s longtime lawyer, Darren Indyke, while Epstein was still alive.

The version Indyke received had the same redactions.

Why Epstein would want a list of his own passengers remains a mystery, but some victims claim he kept such records as leverage.

Burchett Says Bureaucracy, Not Trump, Is to Blame

Despite criticism of how the DOJ handled the Epstein case, Rep. Burchett defended Trump.

He argued that Trump may have simply “hitched a ride” on Epstein’s plane and pointed to public records showing Trump flew with his then-wife Marla Maples and their daughter Tiffany.

“There’s no proof he did anything wrong,” Burchett said.

“He’s on record calling Epstein a dirtbag.”

Rather than blame Trump’s administration officials like Pam Bondi, Burchett directed his frustration toward longtime government insiders.

“It’s the career bureaucrats,” he said. “They know where all the skeletons are buried.”

Calls for Transparency Are Louder Than Ever

The Epstein case continues to leave more questions than answers.

With victims still demanding justice and politicians calling for clarity, pressure is mounting on federal agencies to come clean.

But until those blacked-out names see the light of day, the public may never fully understand the reach—and protection—Jeffrey Epstein really had.

What began as a routine workday at a cannabis farm in Southern California quickly turned into a nightmare for dozens of migrant workers.

In a matter of moments, a federal immigration raid turned into chaos—leaving one man clinging to life, a community in shock, and national attention on the violent outcome.

Worker Falls While Fleeing from ICE Agents

Jaime Alanís, a father from Mexico working in the U.S., is now in critical condition after falling 30 feet from a building while trying to flee Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The dramatic incident unfolded during a raid at Glass House Farms in Camarillo, Ventura County, on Thursday.

Alanís, like many others at the scene, ran when ICE agents—backed by National Guard troops—suddenly arrived at the farm.

During his escape, he plummeted from a structure, suffering a broken neck and skull.

He was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support.

As of Friday, his condition remained dire.

A Family Devastated and Clinging to Hope

His family, still in shock, said Alanís had been working hard to send money home to support his wife and daughter in Mexico.

His niece, Yesenia Duran, launched a GoFundMe campaign, calling him “a hard-working, innocent farmer” and the main provider for his family.

“Doctors have told us he won’t make it. His injuries are catastrophic,” she wrote.

“His heart is still beating. God will make His decision.”

The fundraiser quickly gained traction, raising over $20,000 in its first few hours—and surpassing $37,000 by Friday evening.

Confusion Over Alanís’ Condition Amid Reports

There was some initial confusion over Alanís’ fate.

While the United Farm Workers union prematurely reported his death, hospital officials later clarified that he remained in critical condition.

If he doesn’t survive, the family plans to return his body to Mexico for burial.

ICE Raid Escalates into Chaos

The raid itself was part of a broader federal crackdown on undocumented labor in Southern California.

But what happened at Glass House Farms spiraled beyond control.

Witnesses described an aggressive federal operation that caught many by surprise.

Agents stormed the facility, shutting down roads and clashing with a crowd of more than 100 people—mostly farmworkers and their families.

Protesters initially tried to block the road, but tensions escalated when ICE began deploying smoke canisters and tear gas into the crowd.

Violence Erupts as Tensions Boil Over

Amid the chaos, one individual was seen pointing a firearm and apparently firing in the direction of ICE agents.

The FBI is now offering a $50,000 reward for help identifying and capturing that suspect.

The violence prompted protesters to scatter into nearby fields.

Some responded by throwing rocks at officers.

The Ventura County Fire Department arrived around 12:15 p.m. to treat individuals affected by smoke and tear gas.

Officials clarified that their involvement was strictly medical—they had no role in the enforcement itself.

Dozens Hospitalized and Hundreds Detained

The fallout was immediate and severe.

At least three people were hospitalized, and around 200 individuals were detained during the operation.

The scale of the raid left the community shaken and questioning the federal government’s approach to immigration enforcement.

Shocking Discovery of Child Workers at the Farm

Adding to the controversy, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott later announced that ten underage workers—undocumented juveniles—had been discovered on-site.

The cannabis farm is now under investigation for potential child labor violations.

A photo shared by the commissioner showed the young workers sitting on the ground in front of five federal agents, putting a face to the growing scrutiny surrounding the farm.

South Africa is getting ready to bid farewell to one of its most influential political figures, David Mabuza.

The former deputy president, who passed away earlier this month, will be laid to rest this Saturday, 12 July, in his hometown of Barberton, Mpumalanga.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy at the funeral, which will follow the formalities of a State Funeral Category 2—a sign of the deep respect held for Mabuza’s long political journey.

Remembering a Political Force and Peace Advocate

Tributes have been pouring in from all directions since news of Mabuza’s passing was confirmed.

Leaders across the political spectrum have acknowledged his legacy as a connector—someone who aimed to bring people together even during turbulent times.

The Presidency highlighted Mabuza’s contributions beyond South Africa’s borders, especially through his role as Special Envoy to South Sudan.

There, he worked to broker peace agreements and push for unity in a region long torn by conflict.

But his commitment didn’t stop at international diplomacy.

At home, Mabuza was known for focusing on the needs of overlooked communities and helping mobilize the private sector in the fight against HIV and TB.

He was often described as a leader who prioritized the vulnerable.

Rising Through the Ranks in Government

David Mabuza, often referred to by his initials “DD,” had a long and winding journey through South African politics.

His leadership within the ANC culminated in serving as the party’s Deputy President from 2017 to 2022.

He also held a seat in Parliament from 2018 until stepping down in 2023.

Before reaching national office, Mabuza held several key roles in Mpumalanga over the years:

Premier of Mpumalanga (2009–2018)

MEC for Agriculture and Land Administration (2008–2009)

MEC for Roads and Transport (2007–2008)

Member of the Provincial Legislature (2004–2007)

National MP (2001–2004)

MEC for Housing (1999–2001)

MEC for Education (1994–1998)

It’s clear that Mabuza’s influence touched many departments and communities during his decades in public service.

How Will South Africans Remember “DD”?

With the funeral approaching, many across the country are taking a moment to reflect on who David Mabuza was—not just as a politician, but as a person.

From helping shape post-apartheid education policy to leading peace talks in another continent, his footprint is undeniable.

As the nation prepares to honor him, South Africans are being invited to share their memories and thoughts.

Whether through social media or messages, this is a moment to look back on a career that impacted the country in profound ways.

After two unforgettable slugfests that left boxing fans breathless, the final installment of Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano ended with far less spark—but for Taylor, it was a satisfying conclusion to one of the sport’s greatest rivalries.

Inside the electric yet expectant Madison Square Garden, Taylor edged out Serrano once again, sealing a 3-0 clean sweep in their trilogy.

It may not have been a thrilling finale, but it was a win Taylor will treasure as she nears the twilight of her legendary career.

A Slower Fight Signals the Toll of a Brutal Rivalry

Unlike the heart-pounding chaos of their first two meetings, this third bout between Taylor and Serrano never quite ignited.

Both women looked more measured—some would say fatigued—as they moved cautiously through the early rounds.

It wasn’t until Round 5 that things finally started to warm up.

Taylor, staying light on her feet, began connecting with crisp shots while ducking and weaving away from danger.

Serrano, meanwhile, tried to apply pressure, but her punches didn’t have the same bite as they did in their Texas showdown eight months ago.

With scorecards reading 97-93, 97-93, and 95-95, it was enough to give Taylor a majority decision win—though many fans left the arena wishing for more fireworks.

Serrano Pushes Late, But Taylor Finishes Strong

As the fight wore on, Taylor began showing signs of wear—understandable for a 39-year-old fighter who has spent years in wars like this.

Serrano capitalized in Round 8, landing some sharp combinations that looked like they might tip the balance.

But Taylor, ever the champion, dug deep. In the final round, she found another gear, landing the cleaner shots as Serrano started to fade.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was effective—and just enough to close out the trilogy on her terms.

The crowd, though loud and loyal, seemed underwhelmed by the finish.

Still, Taylor won’t mind. For her, the rivalry ends with three wins and no regrets.

Baumgardner Keeps Her Crown in Rough and Tumble Fight

Before the main event, American boxing star Alycia Baumgardner stepped into the ring for her first fight under Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions banner.

She was expected to cruise past Spain’s Jennifer Miranda—but Miranda clearly didn’t get the script.

In what turned into a surprisingly wild contest, Baumgardner was dragged into a slugfest.

Her usual slickness was missing, but she managed to do enough to secure a unanimous decision win with scores of 98-92, 98-92, and 97-93.

Though the win stands, Miranda has every reason to feel disappointed with the scoring, especially given how close and chaotic the action really was.

Shadasia Green Shocks Savannah Marshall to Unify Titles

One of the biggest surprises of the night came courtesy of New Jersey’s own Shadasia Green.

In a gutsy performance, Green defeated England’s Savannah Marshall to become the unified WBO and IBF super middleweight champion.

It was a hard-fought, high-stakes clash, and Green’s victory sent shockwaves through the division—marking her as a serious threat in the pound-for-pound conversation moving forward.

New Undisputed Champions Rise in Stacked Undercard

Two more fighters left Madison Square Garden as undisputed champions.

Ellie Scotney claimed the super bantamweight throne, while Cherneka Johnson conquered the bantamweight division.

Both women delivered commanding performances that added even more shine to a card stacked with title implications.

The Night Belongs to Taylor, Even Without the Fireworks

It may not have delivered the drama fans hoped for, but the final chapter in the Taylor vs. Serrano rivalry still carried plenty of weight.

With this third victory, Katie Taylor closes one of the most memorable rivalries in modern women’s boxing—on top and on her own terms.

After a solid run in the PSL, Bosnian striker Dzenan Zajmovic is back on the radar—and this time, he could be heading to one of the country’s biggest clubs.

Fresh off a season with TS Galaxy where he netted eight goals in 25 appearances, Zajmovic is now a free agent and weighing his options.

Eyes on Kaizer Chiefs?

Among the teams believed to be interested in Zajmovic are none other than the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

With the transfer window in full swing, the club is reportedly considering the 30-year-old forward to bolster their attack.

Chiefs have already signed one striker this season—Flavio Silva—but early pre-season signs suggest Silva might need time to settle in.

That opens the door for someone like Zajmovic, who already knows the league well.

Zajmovic Speaks Out About His Future

In a recent interview with KickOff, Zajmovic confirmed that two PSL clubs have already reached out to him.

While he kept their names under wraps, speculation is rife that Kaizer Chiefs and possibly even Orlando Pirates could be among them.

“Two clubs have already contacted from the PSL.

South Africa is a nice country with a good league, and I would love to continue playing there at a new club,” Zajmovic said.

South Africa Feels Like Home

Zajmovic didn’t just enjoy his football here—he and his family embraced the South African lifestyle completely.

His remarks reflected a genuine affection for the country, both on and off the pitch.

“I felt at home and will never shut a door for anything to do with South Africa, and my wife and kids know about it,” he shared.
“It was an amazing experience being in South Africa.

Football was good, and the life was also the same, so there was a connection to being in a good mental space and playing football.”

Chiefs Looking for More Firepower?

With just one striker signed so far and pre-season matches not yet convincing, Kaizer Chiefs might just be in the market for an experienced goal-getter—and Zajmovic fits that bill.

He has PSL experience, he’s available on a free transfer, and he’s already acclimatised to the South African football culture.

As Kaizer Chiefs gear up for another season filled with high hopes and scrutiny, their new midfield signing, Siphesihle Ndlovu, is already turning heads—and raising a few eyebrows.

Snatched up for R5 million from SuperSport United just days before a major ownership change at the club, Ndlovu is now in the Netherlands with the rest of the squad for pre-season training.

Farouk Khan Weighs In on the Transfer

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan, who was part of the club in the early 2000s, believes this deal was a smart move.

But he’s also issuing a word of caution.

Speaking to SoccerBeat, Khan praised Ndlovu’s technical skills and his ability to push forward effectively.

“His passing range is solid, and he can occasionally pop up with a goal,” Khan said.

However, he was quick to point out that talent alone won’t be enough to guarantee success.

The Midfield Puzzle Ndlovu Must Solve

Khan explained that the biggest hurdle for Ndlovu will be blending in with the rest of the midfield unit, especially players like Gaston Sirino and Thabo Cele.

“The key question is whether they can develop the right chemistry quickly.

When you keep building from scratch every season, it’s hard to find long-term stability,” he warned.

Leadership Might Be the Missing Link

One thing Khan seems unsure about is Ndlovu’s ability to lead from the center of the park.

“In all great teams, the midfield usually has a strong leader. I haven’t seen that from him yet,” Khan admitted.

At both Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, Ndlovu wasn’t really the midfield general.

“He did well under Gavin Hunt at SuperSport, but he wasn’t the dominant figure.

So the challenge will be forming a solid bond with the midfield and syncing with both the attack and defense.”

Will He Rise to the Occasion?

Ndlovu’s signing has definitely brought excitement, but the jury is still out on whether he can truly anchor the Chiefs’ midfield.

The season ahead will be a real test—not just of his skill, but of how well he can fit into the rhythm of a team still searching for consistency.
