20.
Jaylen Wright was the only Miami Dolphins rookie invited to this year’s NFLPA Rookie Premiere.

Every year, a new group of rookies swarm to the Los Angeles Coliseum in May to partake in the annual NFLPA’s Rookie Premiere, presented by Panini. This year’s event kicked off on Thursday, May 16th, and featured over 40 NFL rookies, according to a report.

 21.

 22.
However, not all rookies get to attend this event. Dolphins first-round pick Chop Robinson wasn’t invited, nor was Mo Kamara or the wide receiver duo of Tahj Washington and Malik Washington. Only rookie running back Jaylen Wright was invited to the event. And based on the few images we saw, he looks natural in Miami’s aqua and orange threads. (Even if they should’ve been throwback uniforms).

 42.

 43.
Wright, 21, was selected in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. To move up to draft the playmaking running back, Miami traded away a 2025 third-round draft. His role in year one shouldn’t be astronomical, with Raheem Mostert coming off a career-high season and De’Von Achane’s rookie year. A season in which the Dolphins were plagued by injury. So there’s always a chance a young player could get thrust into action sooner than expected.

 44.
Additionally, he brings a different toughness in pass protection, and let’s be honest, he is bigger and has a bit more thunder to him in the run game than the two guys above.

 45.
(Please Note: Mostert went beast mode vs. the Bills and countless other times, so I’m not doubting him. Achane also looked JACKED this offseason and proved he could break tackles and get the extra yards as a rookie. So, believe me when I say this: there is no shade being thrown!)

 46.

 48.

 49.
Last season with the Volunteers, Wright carried the ball 137 times for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He will now join one of the most explosive offenses in all of football. #RunWrightRun

 51.
Xavien Howard tells Jaylen Wright on Instagram that he wants his number back.

 52.

 53.
Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard took to Instagram late Saturday evening to comment on Wright’s photo. Howard, who previously wore the No. 25, joked that he would need his jersey back. And now that I think about it, it almost sounds like he may be looking to return home to the place that once drafted him.

 82.
This past week, I highlighted some of the past and present Miami Dolphins nicknames for players and the team units. I then asked the following question-

 83.

What if any other players or units of the Miami Dolphins deserve nicknames, and what should they be? Do any of the new rookies need a nickname?

 84.
Below are some of the ideas that you threw out there-

 85.
krammm is showing his age by throwing a Gary Wright tune out there, but I also instantly got the reference, so...

 86.

 87.
The defense should be The Dream Weavers.

 88.
Fly me high through the starry skies

 89.
Or maybe to an astral plane

 90.
Cross the highways of fantasy

 91.
Help me to forget today’s pain

 92.

 93.
dolphinfan4lyfe has a variety of suggestions, including the triple M’s.

 94.

 95.
T-T-T-Tua and the Jets... So much speed on this Offense, I mean not to show my age here... But Speed at WR, Speed at RB, I mean even even have a handful of Linemen that are fast for their size....

 96.
Or McDaniels Maniacal Misfits of Machinal Mayhem.

 97.

 98.
TheRoo1 highlighted the Dolphin's apparent desire to collect every player with any form of the name Jaylen.

 99.

 100.
The

 101.
“Jaylens”

 102.
or just yell

 103.
“Jaylen did it”

 104.

 105.
daytonadolfan had an idea for Achane, but I propose we simplify it to A-Train! Joe also pointed out that one rookie arrived with a nickname. He also had a new nickname for the defense and offense.

 106.

 107.
Achane train?

 108.
Pork chop came with his own nick name!

 109.
What I’d like to call our new defense .....The Wrecking Crew!

 110.
And our speedy offense... The Flying Fish! ( yeah, I know, Dolphins are Mammals, just go with it ) lol.

 111.

 112.
EzDz73 replied to Joe with the same suggestion that I had. You must have a super high intellect!

 113.

A-Train

 114.
Dolfanjoe hopes to see some rookies step up and take some of the starting roles on the 2024 version of the Miami Dolphins.

 115.

What better nickname for the rookies could have than starter? .........................

 116.
We had some excellent suggestions; maybe we can make a few of them stick once the regular season begins. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to comment on the question of the day. We will return tomorrow night for another question of the day post.

 136.
 137.
The Miami Dolphins have reached the playoffs in back-to-back seasons under head coach Mike McDaniel.

The beaches, weather, and lack of state income tax are all negotiating tools for the Miami Dolphins, but that’s not necessarily enough to seal the deal. The Dolphins ended each of the last four seasons with a winning record and reached the playoffs in the previous two seasons under coach Mike McDaniel.

 138.
With McDaniel as the team's expert negotiator, Miami has finally washed away the lingering stench of just one winning season from 2009 through 2019.

 139.
“This opportunity was the main one that kept being put in front of my face,” Odell Beckham Jr. said in his introductory press conference. “I remember somebody asked me a few years ago if I would ever play for the Dolphins. I kind of shrugged it off, that it wasn’t really an idea.”

 140.
After spending four years with McDaniel and the San Francisco 49ers, Raheem Mostert didn’t think twice when following him to Miami. The decision paid off with two contract extensions and a franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns in 2023.

 145.
 146.
 147.

 148.
“He’s definitely a guy that I could truly count on,” Mostert said back in November. “When we were in San Francisco together, he was a run game coordinator for a couple of years, and I would go to him for little nuggets and bits of the run game going up against good defenses.”

 149.
The Dolphins hired McDaniel before the 2022 season and traded for Tyreek Hill to pair with Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle. The offense ranked sixth or better in total yards in each of the last two seasons, and like the Bat-Signal on a clear night, players around the league saw the possibilities of playing in Miami.

 150.
“Coach Mike definitely is someone who – he sold it to me because it’s just his energy, we speak the same language (when) we’re talking, the conversations we had about football,” Beckham said. “Just the opportunity, like I said, is presenting itself.

 151.
“We sat down for hours and we were just talking football. It just got me excited thinking about it. He pulled up my film compared to what they’re doing here and just kind of married the things. I’ve seen an opportunity, and I think time will tell at the end that this was the right decision.”

 152.
The Dolphins are trending in the right direction and yet there’s plenty of work to be done. Miami has one of the longest playoff win droughts in the NFL, but McDaniel’s vision has incoming players excited about future possibilities over past failures.

 153.
His ability to connect with players was the catalyst for a culture shift in South Florida, and there’s optimism that playoff success could soon follow.

 178.
The Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa have been a big talking point this offseason as the team tries to get their quarterback an extension. Tua is currently playing on the fifth-year option but would love to be rewarded with a new contract. Last month, Tua stated he would show up to OTA’s and let his agent deal with contract details. The Dolphins began their offseason program last month and while Tua showed up, he has decided to sit out most of it. It is voluntary though but perhaps the quarterback is protesting his contract status. We’ll have a better understanding of how Tua feels when he decides whether or not to show up for Dolphins OTA’s next week.

 219.
It’s Friday, so it’s time for us to welcome you to another VOTW post. Today’s open conversation prompt is just that - what is your victory for this week? Did something extraordinary happen this week? Is it the small thing worth celebrating? Was it Miami Dolphins related? Was it in your professional life? Your personal life? We all had something, big or small, that was a victory, and we want to know what yours was.

 220.
This post is yours, the site member, aka one of our family here at the Phinsider. This post is your chance to share your victory from the last week. Your victory can be huge, like the birth of a new child/grandchild or finally getting that job or promotion you worked your rear off for. It can be a small thing like you won $100 on your lottery scratch-off ticket, or maybe it was a great overall week for you for another reason you wish to share. It’s your post and victory, so please feel free to share it with the rest of the site in the comment section below.

 241.
Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is entering the final year on his rookie contract.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa reported to the team’s training facility when the team began their offseason training program in April. According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, that may be about the extent of what Tagovailoa, coming off his first Pro Bowl selection, has done this offseason. “Tagovailoa has been absent for the large majority of voluntary offseason work since the Dolphins reported back April 15,” Jones wrote Friday morning.

 242.
Tagovailoa has been a full participant in the offseason training program in the past. The Dolphins included the quarterback in their collage of images from the team’s on-field practices early in the offseason program, releasing a post on X on April 19:

 247.
 248.
 249.

 250.
Tagovailoa is entering his fifth year in the league after Miami selected fifth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Dolphins exercised the fifth-year option in Tagovailoa’s rookie contract last year, keeping him with the team through the 2024 season. The team is believed to be working on a contract extension for Tagovailoa, but they could fall back to using the franchise tag next offseason to keep him with the team for at least a sixth season.

 251.
“I think it’s something that when it happens, it happens,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said of the contract negotiations with Tagovailoa on April 16. “We’ve had communication with him and I’ll just leave those between the organization and his representation, and it’s been good so we’ll just keep working towards it. Him and his agent are very understanding that this is now the draft, so he’s letting us focus on that and then we’ll turn our attention to that after the draft finishes.”

 252.
Head coach Mike McDaniel, on March 25, spoke about Tagovailoa, the contract negotiations, and the likelihood of Tagovailoa participating in the offseason program. He explained, “The contract and contract negotiations, those things take time. I do expect Tua to be in OTAs only because my working relationship with Tua. For two years, I’ve watched Tua gain some unbelievable residuals towards the season in that process. It’s part of the reason Tua is who he is because he’s always learning, never staying the same and always working on his craft. I know the one thing that he likes to do now in his life, besides be a kick ass dad to Ace and Maizy, is play football with his teammates. That’s what I expect. I don’t really put too much thought beyond that. I understand the business, but I also understand my job with Tua is to make sure that his football is continuing to evolve and the best days are in front of him, which are both of our goals.”

 253.
Under the NFL and NFL Players Association collective bargaining agreement, the offseason training program is primarily a voluntary period for the player, with no disciplinary actions authorized if a player chooses not to show. Teams may hold one mandatory event, a minicamp, late in the program. The mandatory minicamp will be held June 4-6 for the Dolphins. The team could fine any player who does not report for the minicamp.

 254.
The fifth-year option will pay Tagovailoa a fully guaranteed $23.17 million this season. A new contract would likely pay Tagovailoa around $50 million per season. The Detroit Lions and quarterback Jared Goff agreed this week on a new four-year, $212 million contract with $113.6 million fully guaranteed and an additional $57 million in injury guarantees. Goff’s contract has a $53 million per season average, second behind the Cincinnati Bengals’ deal with Joe Burrow ($55 million per year).

 255.
Tagovailoa skipping the workouts could be a sign that he is growing frustrated with the negotiations on a long-term contract extension.

 256.
In four seasons with the Dolphins, Tagovailoa has thrown for 12,639 yards with a 66.9 percent completion rate, 81 touchdowns, 37 interceptions, and a career passer rating of 97.1. He led the league in passer rating in 2022 with a 105.5. Last year, he threw for a league-high 4,624 yards, earning the start at the league’s all-star Pro Bowl Games event.

 276.
The Dolphins will spend a lot of time in the air next season.

The official 2024 NFL schedule has finally released, and the Miami Dolphins will have their work cut out for them this season, both on the field and in the air.

 277.
What I mean is, is that the Dolphins will travel the 2nd-most miles of any NFL team in 2024, behind only the Los Angeles Chargers.

 285.
Being on the coast, it’s to be expected that the Dolphins will fly many miles each season. Of course, having three divisional opponents who play on the opposite end of the country doesn’t help either.

 319.
Week 17 - @ Cleveland Browns (SNF)

 320.
Week 18 - @ New York Jets

 321.

 322.
Thankfully, the Dolphins have zero international games scheduled for 2024, meaning the team’s longest trip will be a coast-to-coast flight to play the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle in Week 3. Other notable flights include two trips to the midwest to take on the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns, as well as another coast-to-coast flight to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10. Throw in the yearly trips to Boston, Buffalo, and New York, and the Dolphins will travel a whopping 25,869 miles in 2024.

 323.
Luckily for the Dolphins, an early bye week (Week 6) gives the team a chance to recover after long trips to Seattle and Boston, and other long flights are sandwiched between home games. Granted, two road games to end the season isn’t ideal, but hopefully the division is wrapped up by then. Piece of cake, right?

 348.
Like last season, the NFL decided to make the last part of the Miami Dolphins schedule pretty tough. In week 16, the San Francisco 49ers will be paying the Dolphins a visit and it will be another rematch for Mike McDaniel as he takes on his old friend/mentor, Kyle Shanahan. The NFL gave the Dolphins a Thanksgiving game, but the Dolphins won’t be thanking the league as the team has to travel to take on the Green Bay Packers. Which game do you think will be the most difficult for the Dolphins this upcoming season?
