BELMONT PARK Race 11 This is the 144th running of The $1,000,000 Grade I Belmont Stakes. #1 - STREET LIFE: Locally based colt comes off his best outing to date. #2 - UNSTOPPABLE U: Will be rolling early, pace factor. #3 - UNION RAGS: A clean trip just may be all that it takes for him to score this afternoon. #4 - ATIGUN: Late running colt needs plenty of pace in front. Uncoupled stablemate (UNSTOPPABLE U) may provide it. #5 - DULLAHAN: Doing quite well at the present. Major player on his best effort. #6 - RAVELO'S BOY: Appears to be overmatched. However, Calder runners generally adapt well to "big sandy." #7 - FIVE SIXTEEN: He'll need to step things way up to compete with these. #8 - GUYANA STAR DWEEJ: Trainer-jock combo has 33 letters in their combined names. What else can I say? #9 - PAYNTER: Bob Baffert's "other" colt is an intriguing prospect, considering his connections. #10 - OPTIMIZER: Finished a total of 27 1/2 lengths behind the favorite in his last pair. #11 - I'LL HAVE ANOTHER: Has yet to do anything wrong in 2012. Can he make history? I prefer others. #12 - MY ADONIS: Good for him that Monmouth Park is not too far away from Belmont Park. #3 - UNION RAGS returns to battle 5 weeks after his Derby debacle. Homebred son of DIXIE UNION has been tuning up smoothly in preparation for today's event. I like the rider switch and can't ignore the fact that his best race to date may have been over this strip in last year's Champagne. I'm going to give him one more chance. Hopefully, the dry weather will continue through Saturday. Due to the lack of cooperative weather, The Oaks/Derby contestants have had their workout routines interrupted. Therefore, I believe current form and the quest for value to be the best approach to making money this week.<br /><br />However, The Derby (with a very few exceptions) appears to be best handicapped by attrition. This means if you're enamored with the favorites or the over-hyped "now" horses, then you'll probably not like my handicapping/wagering ideas for this year's Kentucky Derby.<br /><br />The best part of both days are the potential wagering opportunities on the respective "undercards." I'm ready to "fire!" I've been up at 4:30 every morning and I've seen virtually all of The Breeders' Cup entrants jog, gallop, or train. In addition to that important knowledge, I have followed this meet for more than 20 years. I've seen several vulnerable favorites and have some strong handicapping opinions as well. I can tell you this. There are several double digit morning line runners in The 14 Breeders' Cup races that would not surprise me. If you want regurgitation of the morning line or "M. O. T. O. (Master Of The Obvious)" man selections, look elsewhere! If you're looking to attempt to win real money, then jump on board! <br /><br />Friday's card will be available by Wednesday evening and Saturday's card will be available by Thursday evening, thereby allowing you plenty of time to handicap the races. Both Breeders' Cup days include the undercard races as well. Oh by the way, I'm interested in playing Friday's opener at 2:00 p. m. Eastern.
