19.
 20.
It’s the King’s tonight. I have this theory on the West. It’s WIDE OPEN. I’m not seeing a clearcut favorite or clearcut easy opponent.

 21.
If Vegas and Colorado were at 100% then I’d say them without hesitation.

 22.
LA is a beautiful team but the goaltending situation (while slightly improved) isn’t the best.

 23.
We have a beautiful group of 4 forwards outscoring opponents and hiding a lot of mistakes. We don’t have a legit goalie though and are hoping that Skinner pulls a Binnington (which very well may happen).

 24.
Jets have the best goalie but are in a dogfight with the OT point champions, Calgary.

 25.
Dallas looks to have a nice combo of pieces. Heiskanen and Oetinger is a nice combo!

 26.
Minnesota plays an infuriating D style and can really drive you crazy.

 27.
Seattle has a nice roster but goaltending isn’t encouraging either.

 28.
No one is really complete in the West. Not one matchup is a sure thing IMO. I see a lot of close matchups. I think our hopes will live and die on our Goalies and Top 4 D pairings. Neither is 100% solid on paper. I’m not sure what more Connor and Drai can do in the playoffs?

 29.
For those that have missed it. JP isn’t playing right now. No points in 8 games, lowering minutes and either injured or scratched for the last 2 games. Nick B has 5 points in 12 games for us. He seems to be the closest thing to a JP replacement to my eye.

 30.
So today’s poll question:

 31.

 33.
Last poll was won by Larsson.

 73.
 74.
Coyotes on deck tonight in another late weeknight start! Get used to those as our odds of making playoffs are very good. Our odds of winning the Pacific are not. Feels like we will meet LA who has been killing it lately.

 75.
Yotes have been better as of late and playing decent hockey. Only 2 losses in their last 10. 5-2-3. I’m not sure which goalie we start. Skinner has looked like a rookie in the second half of his first season. Campbell has looked like a rookie for my son’s House League Team. It’s something to follow heading to playoffs.

 76.
For fun.. I thought we’d do a poll today and revisit a very old hot topic!

 77.
Hall for Larsson!

 78.
At the time, I thought Chia was insane and we got fleeced! Nothing will change my mind.

 79.
However, a lot of time has passed and today’s question, in 2023, is this:

 80.

 81.
Few basic stats to help:

 82.
Larsson, 72GP, 7G, 24A, 31P, TOI 23:50, Caphit 4M

 83.
Hall, 58GP, 16G, 20A, 36P, TOI 16:00, Caphit 6M

 84.

 85.
Go Oilers. I say we keep winning! Loving Bouch/Ek as first pair. Hoping to not see Kane in a 3 on 3 ever again.

 127.
 128.
It’s a late one tonight. 10:30 EST start. This may seem outrageous however, I’d suggest to get used to it because playoff games start at 10 EST and they always start late. So this should feel like dryland training for the playoffs!

 129.
Coyotes are a fake team designed to take on cap space for the other teams. Most recently it was Jakub Voracek going there to LTIRetire. They definitely didn’t get what they wanted for Chychrum. They always have nice pieces but are always in a rebuild.

 130.
Oilers have been flying since Ekholm joined! Holloway is back in the AHL and, hopefully, back soon. Bjugstadt seems to have been a great trade as well.

 131.
Skinner starts tonight. It was nice to get a win last game after some shaky D and Goaltending. I say we win 5-3.

 132.
What does Jan Jenik need to do to get the call? How about Ronald Knot? The Yotes actually signed my fav Euro D, Lukas Klok, but he didn’t make the big squad either.

 151.
 152.
Welcome back!

 153.
Tonight is the Sharks and there are a few reasons I’m fascinated with this one:

 154.

 155.

 156.
I was in charge of our Mock Draft and drafted Martin Kaut... at the time everyone said I was nuts and he’d be a bust. Well, you were probably right! But I will cheer for him to the end.

 157.
Campbell may be the starter and that’s always fun!

 158.
Reimer may be starting tonight and in his honor:

 159.

 160.

 161.
I’d go to the 10 minute mark when the Leafs are up 4-1. It’s rare I post Leafs highlights but, for some reason, this felt appropriate tonight. You could tell Reimer didn’t like that Leafs jersey either. Note who the B’s had out in final minute.. Jagr, Krejci and Chara.

 162.

 163.

 164.

 165.
James Reimer can’t wear Pride jersey due to Christianity even though Bible also bans working on sabbath, coughing up 3 goal lead to Bruins in Game 7 https://t.co/nY63Y52yN8 #Reimer #JamesReimer pic.twitter.com/lldePg7qk0
— The Beaverton (@TheBeaverton) March 20, 2023

 167.
 168.

 169.

 170.
I say 5-1 win if Skinner is playing and 6-5 win if Campbell is. Cheering for Kaut to stay in the NHL to be honest!

 230.
 231.
Leon Draisaitl’s powerplay production has reached new heights this season, and is a major reason why he hit the century mark.

Scoring another two goals on Tuesday night against Ottawa, 27-year old Leon Draisaitl reached the 100 point mark for the fourth time in his career. He currently ranks third in the league this season with 44 goals and seventh overall with 56 assists.

 232.
Draisaitl now has 716 points in 624 career NHL games - and has established himself as one of the top-end forwards in the league. His productivity in the regular season and playoffs has him in some very elite company, and he’s a big reason why the Oilers are one of the highest scoring teams this season.

 233.
The biggest driver for his success is his productivity on the powerplay, where he currently leads the league with 27 goals and ranks tenth with 23 assists. The 50 powerplay points he’s accumulated makes up 50% of his total points, an increase from the 38% proportion he’s posted over the last three seasons. He’s having an incredible year on the powerplay, which remains one the best in the league and a significant competitive advantage. Worth noting is that while Draisaitl continues to produce well at even-strength (5v5), his scoring rate is actually down this season compared to previous seasons, currently sitting at 2.16 points per hour.

 236.

 237.
Digging into the powerplay numbers a little more, Draisaitl’s scoring rate (11.31 points per hour) has been one of the best in the league and actually one of the highest rates over the last several seasons. Only a handful of players have surpassed the 10.00 points per hour mark in a year, with the average among regular powerplay forwards being around 4.4 points per hour (based on forwards who have played at least 150 minutes over the last three seasons). Draisaitl himself has posted a rate of 8.61 points per hour on the powerplay over the last three seasons, making his current rate of scoring about 31% higher where we’d expect him to be.

 238.

 239.
 240.

 241.
There’s been a few reasons for his powerplay success this season, which has helped him reach the 100-point mark.

 242.

 243.
First, he’s been shooting at a rate almost 12% higher than where he’s been at over the last three seasons, currently sitting at 19.23 shots per hour on the powerplay. Based on some of the shots we’ve seen him take on the powerplay, it’s clear he’s got a lot of confidence in his abilities, a by-product of his experience in the league and being on a unit that has now spent a lot of time together.

 244.

 245.
Second, Draisaitl is converting a significantly higher proportion of his powerplay shots into goals, currently sitting at a 31.76% individual shooting percentage. In the last three season, Draisaitl posted a 23.50% shooting percentage on the powerplay, so we’re talking about a 35% increase.

 246.

 247.
 248.

 249.
Considering the elite talent on the Oilers powerplay and the chemistry they’ve established over the years, it’s safe to assume Draisaitl will continue to get plenty of chances and help the club generate offence. But it’s hard to know how well he’ll convert on his chances and maintain a 31% individual shooting percentage. In the last three seasons, only three forwards among 206 powerplay regulars have posted an individual shooting percentage over 30%. Draisaitl has been 14th among this group with a 23.50% shooting percentage, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

 250.
Either way, the Oilers have an elite powerplay producer. And if his regular linemates can stay healthy and if he can maintain first-line level production at even-strength, Draisaitl should be able to chase 100 points again next season.
