18.

National Public Radio reports that as of 2010, 72 million adults are considered obese within the United States and more than 60 percent of Americans are either overweight or obese. Being overweight and obese may not only be aesthetically unappealing to some, but carrying extra body fat leads to serious health consequences, some of which are life threatening. Because of this, many turn to natural supplements to assist in shedding pounds. Green tea pills are among the most popular of these supplements, and while a plethora of manufacturers release green tea products, not all are effective or safe. Six polyphenols, which are known as catechins, compose green tea. These include gallaogatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, catechin, apigallocatechin gallate and epicatechin. Apigallocatechin gallate, also known as ECGC, is the most studied and potentially the most effective out of these compounds. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports these catechin compounds contain a higher concentration of antioxidants than vitamin C. Other active constituents within green tea include alkaloids, which are known to provide this herb with its stimulating effects. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports several clinical studies suggest the internal consumption of green tea may help increase a person’s metabolism. This metabolic increase assists the body in accessing stored fat cells for energy, which results in weight loss. It is believed the six catechins within this herb are responsible for the weight loss effect of green tea. The use of green tea may help decrease appetite, which prevents users from overeating, according to a report in the August 2013 issue of "BioMed Research International." While initial studies are promising for weight loss, further studies are required to determine this herbs true effectiveness. Green tea pills are comprised of green tea extract, which are dried tea leaves broken down into a powder. The best green tea pill is one that utilizes a standardized green tea extract, and contains a high concentration of catechins. The University of Maryland Medical Center suggests consuming 100 to 750 milligrams of green tea extract per day for beneficial use. A study outlined by The Linus Pauling Institute found men who consumed 690 milligrams of green tea catechins per day lost a significant amount of body weight. While green tea is considered safe for the general public, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine reports minor side effects may occur; especially in those sensitive to caffeine. These effects include upset stomach, irritability, diarrhea, anxiety and insomnia; however, green tea extracts without caffeine are available. As with any natural supplement, green tea does carry a risk of adverse drug interactions, thus speak with your physician before starting a green tea diet pill routine.

 27.

If you're looking to drop a few pounds, green tea may be able to provide just the boost you need. While the evidence regarding this supplement is conflicting, many sources agree that green tea pills, which contain two potential fat-burning substances, can promote at least modest weight loss. Green tea may work, in part, by boosting thermogenesis - the production of body heat, which uses calories. Green tea, produced from the Camellia sinensis plant, can be prepared as a beverage or as an extract. One green tea extract in particular, known as epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, is used in green tea tablets to promote weight loss. A study published in 2007 in the "Journal of the American College of Nutrition" concluded that EGCG alone has the potential to increase fat loss. MedlinePlus, however, has assigned green tea a rating of "insufficient evidence" for weight loss and notes that green tea does not help keep the weight off. Green tea also contains another compound often used for its potential to boost the metabolism and promote weight loss - caffeine. A study published in 2005 in "Obesity Research" noted that a high caffeine intake, consumed through a green tea-caffeine mixture, was correlated with weight loss, by way of fat oxidation and thermogenesis. A 2009 meta-analysis published in the "International Journal of Obesity" reviewed 11 studies and also concluded that combining EGCG and caffeine did appear to produce a small but positive effect on both weight loss and weight maintenance. New York University Langone Medical Center notes that much of the evidence backing green tea as a weight-loss supplement is based on the idea that it can boost the metabolism and therefore cause the body to burn calories at a higher rate. The center concluded, however, that if green tea does in fact boost the metabolism, its effect is minimal. Overall, NYU Langone Medical Center states that there is little evidence supporting green tea as a weight-loss aid. A study published in 2013 in the "Journal of Medicinal Food" found that drinking green tea alone caused a group of women to lose weight, body mass and waist circumference as well as maintain lean, or muscle, mass. But the greatest benefits were in the group that combined drinking green tea with resistance training. These participants saw an even greater loss of fat and waist circumference as well as lower triglycerides. And they simultaneously increased muscle mass and muscle strength.

 36.

I wanted to give you guys my green tea frappuccino recipe because it’s something I drink and enjoy almost every afternoon for both the taste, the health benefits and the energy boost. I’m a long time fan of tea (some would call me obsessed if you saw my tea collection 🙂 ), but this matcha green tea frappuccino recipe holds a particularly special place in my heart. If you haven’t tried matcha yet, you are in for a real treat with this green tea frappuccino recipe. Not only is it super refreshing, but it comes loaded with health benefits (some even say it’s THE superfood of superfoods!). My husband and I can both testify that it will give you lasting energy (with no jitters or insulin spikes) for about 3 to 4 hours. We swear by it! One serving of matcha provides about 35 mg of caffeine, which is less than the average cup of coffee (80-120mg). But the caffeine in matcha is a assimilated in a much healthier way than coffee due to the unique combination of phyto-nutrients in matcha. The molecules are released into the bloodstream very slowly, resulting in sustained energy for 3 to 4 hours. This prevents the insulin and adrenalin spikes that happen during coffee intake. You’ll also never experience that coffee blood sugar drop when you drink matcha! L-Theanine is the primary amino acid component of matcha. The relaxing effects of L-Theanine act against the stimulatory effects of caffeine so you won’t ever experience caffeine jitters. Instead, you’ll notice a calm alertness, relaxed mental clarity and sustained energy that lasts 3 to 4 hours. We swear by this! BOOSTS METABOLISM AND AIDS IN WEIGHT LOSS A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition claims that matcha produces a significant boost in metabolism, combined with a significant effect on fat oxidation. “While some of the effects were originally attributed to the caffeine content in green tea, the researchers discovered that the matcha green tea effects on energy and weight loss go beyond those that would be caused by the caffeine, ” says White. “In fact, they found that consuming matcha green tea can increase thermogenesis (the body’s own rate of burning calories) from a normal 8 to 10 percent of daily expenditure to between 35 and 43 percent of daily expenditure.” In other words, matcha increases your body’s ability to burn fat and calories by 4 times! Another medical study determined that drinking a cup of Matcha Green Tea before physical activity resulted in 25% more fat burning during the activity. An important note is the fact that none of the research subjects reported any side effects and no significant differences in heart rates were noticed. “In this respect, matcha green tea is different from some of the prescription drugs for obesity, and products like ephedra, which can raise heart rates and blood pressure….” says White. There are many more health benefits of matcha green tea powder like cleansing and detoxifying the blood, enhancing athletic performance, relieving rheumatoid arthritis and arthritis pain, reducing the risk of Parkinson’s disease, cancer and more. Now here’s my beloved Green Tea Frappuccino Recipe – I hope you love it and notice the wonderful health benefits and energy as much as we have!

 45.

To understand which herbal teas are safe to consume during pregnancy, let’s first look at the different types of teas and how they are made. Or, you can buy a pregnancy tea – shop now. While this article addresses the use of herbal teas during pregnancy, there are also teas formulated for use after pregnancy to help promote milk production while breastfeeding. Learn more about Nursing Teas here. Differences Between Non-Herbal and Herbal There are two different types of teas, non-herbal and herbal. The non-herbal teas can be broken down into 3 categories: black, green, and oolong. Non-Herbal Tea Black tea is the most common type of non-herbal tea. It includes blends such as English breakfast, Earl Grey, and Orange Pekoe. Green tea has a more delicate taste than black tea. The oolong teas are a combination of green and black tea. Non-herbal teas are made from leaves of tea plants. The brewing time, size of the leaf, and type of tea leaf can also influence how much caffeine is in the tea. Decaf versions of non-herbal teas still contain a bit of caffeine. Herbal Tea Made from the roots, berries, flowers, seeds, and leaves of a variety of plants not from actual tea plant leaves. True herbal teas do not contain caffeine. (This does not include any other drinks that are called “tea” but truly are not, such as mate tea.) These teas can also be used as medicinal\x9d remedies (relating to, or having the properties of medicine). Non-Herbal Teas Although non-herbal tea is assumed to have great health benefits due to the antioxidants, it also contains caffeine, which pregnant and breastfeeding women are often encouraged to cut down on or eliminate. The average cup of non-herbal tea contains about 40-50 milligrams of caffeine. Decaffeinated non herbal tea does still contain a bit of caffeine; however, the amount is usually only about .4 milligrams. Caffeine crosses the placenta and reaches your developing baby. The baby cannot metabolize caffeine like an adult can. Also, consuming caffeine while breastfeeding could contribute to infant sleep disorders. For this reason, there is controversy on how much caffeine is safe, or if it should be avoided altogether. We know that the less caffeine consumed, the better it is for your baby while pregnant or breastfeeding. Herbal teas Herbal teas are naturally caffeine free, so caffeine is not an issue when consuming this type of tea. The concern with consuming herbal teas during pregnancy is the lack of data available on most herbs and their effects on a developing fetus. There are mixed opinions on the safety of herbal teas, for both pregnant and non-pregnant women. Most commercial brands of herbal teas are thought to be safe for anyone to consume in reasonable amounts. Herbal tea companies, such as Celestial Seasonings, report that they do not use any herbs that are considered dangerous and choose to use herbs from guidelines that the FDA has published. The herbal teas that are considered to be unsafe are those that are not made commercially, those made with excessive amounts of herbs (amounts larger than those found in common foods or drinks), and those made with herbs that are known to be toxic. As with most things, it is always best to talk with your midwife or doctor about any herbal teas that you are interested in drinking. Pregnancy Teas Many midwives and professionals who work with herbs believe that the regular consumption of these teas may help prevent pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, prolonged labor, and postpartum hemorrhage. Get your tea here. Medical studies have shown that red raspberry leaf can be consumed safely during pregnancy and can decrease the length of labor and the number of interventions used, such as artificial rupture of membranes (AROM), assisted delivery, and cesarean delivery. Red raspberry leaf also seems to help prevent pregnancies from pre- or post-term gestation (delivering too early or too late). The Herbs Used The following are common ingredients you may find in herbal teas. Note that some have a questionable safety rating. The safety ratings given here are from the Natural Medicines Database. More extensive research and discussions with your health care provider will help you make the decision about what herbs are safe for you to use in teas. Red Raspberry Leaf (Likely Safe) – Rich in iron, this herb has helped tone the uterus, increase milk production, decrease nausea, and ease labor pains. Many pregnancy teas\x9d contain red raspberry leaf to help promote uterine health during pregnancy. There is some controversy about whether this should be used throughout pregnancy or just in the second and third trimester, so many health care providers remain cautious and only recommend using it after the first trimester. Peppermint Leaf (Likely Safe) – Helpful in relieving nausea/morning sickness and flatulence. Lemon Balm (Likely Safe) – Has a calming effect and helps relieve irritability, insomnia, and anxiety. Ginger root (Possibly Safe) – Helps relieve nausea and vomiting. Dandelion (Insufficient Reliable Information Available) – Rich in Vitamin A, calcium and iron; dandelion root and leaf can also help relieve mild edema and nourish the liver. Chamomile (German) (Insufficient Reliable Information Available) – High in calcium and magnesium, also helps with sleeplessness and inflammation of joints. Nettles (Stinging Nettles) (Likely Unsafe-see note) – High in vitamins A, C, K, calcium, potassium and iron. Used in many pregnancy teas because it is a great all-around pregnancy tonic. (*Note on the safety of nettles: Natural Medicines Database gives nettles a rating of Likely Unsafe, even though it is used in countless pregnancy teas and recommended by most midwives and herbalists. This may be in relation to which part of the nettles plant is used, the root or the leaves, and how much is used. According to other sources, the use of nettles is encouraged during pregnancy because of its health benefits.) Rose Hips (Insufficient Reliable Information Available) – Very good source of Vitamin C and helps boost the immune system. Alfalfa (Possibly Unsafe) – Has Vitamin A, D, E and K; particularly good in later pregnancy to boost Vitamin K, which helps prevent postpartum hemorrhage. Yellow Dock (Possibly Unsafe) – Used to help treat anemia in pregnant women due to the high level of iron. Also contains Vitamins A, C and calcium. *(This may also be used as a laxative–talk with your health care provider about the use of yellow dock during pregnancy).

 54.

Everyone knows by now that it is helpful to consume a little green tea when you are trying to drop the pounds, but it is one thing to know that green tea can help and an entirely other issue to know how to achieve those positive results. Green tea has been used for thousands of years and has many benefits. One of them is green tea’s thermo-genic properties. This means the green tea causes your metabolism to heat up, or consume fuel at a faster rate. The faster your metabolism, the more fuel it needs. We store fat as fuel for our body. Your metabolism, consuming fat at a faster rate, causes you to lose fat weight. Green tea also creates the feeling of fullness, making it a very effective appetite suppressant. When your body is no longer constantly craving foods, you can concentrate on healthier eating habits. A proponent in green tea called EGCG reduces the amount of lipids (fat) you absorb when you eat. This benefits your cholesterol level, causes weight loss and is very healthy for your heart. So, once you have come to the conclusion that you want the positive benefits, you ask yourself this: how to lose weight with green tea? And then read on for some important tips. Tip #1: Start Early Replace your morning coffee with some green tea. Green tea has caffeine, so it can give you a boost when starting off your mornings, but it can also kick-start your metabolism into action so that you burn more calories all day long. Try to not add too much filler to the tea, however – things like sugar, honey and milk add calories that can counteract with the green tea’s weight-loss properties. Tip #2: Drink Often Do not be afraid to drink several cups. There’s less caffeine than in a cup of Joe, you don’t have to worry so much about feeling jittery and nervous if you double up on your servings. This will also help you feel (and stay) full. You can use green tea as a supplement to meals, as well. Drink a cup before or right after eating, so that you don’t eat too much. Do be aware that since green tea contains a diuretic, you may also be visiting the restroom more frequently – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! Water weight counts on the scale, too. Tip #3: Stay Regular When you drink green tea regularly (think every day for several months as opposed to having off and on weeks) you experience extra weight loss benefits. The more you stick to it, the more it trains your body to absorb less fat in the long run. This is a good reason to keep drinking, even if you haven’t noticed a lot of benefits in the first couple of days. Some things simply take time, but are worth waiting for. Tips #4: Talk to the Experienced In order to learn other new tips for how to lose weight with green tea, talk to people who have actually lost weight using the tea as a supplement. They may know little tricks and methods that can help your weight loss efforts. If they people know you personally, you can even have this advice tailored specifically for your body, schedule and life. Tips #5: Make Green Tea the beginning Learning how to lose weight with green tea opens the doors to other good habits. Because green tea is such an effective appetite suppressant, your cravings for snacks and bad foods will be stopped. No longer controlled by food, you can control what foods you eat. Use this time to learn new and healthier ways of eating. Begin to replace foods high in fat and calories with foods that are better for you. If you reduce your caloric intake by just 500 calories a day, you will lose one pound a week! Your body will begin to feel more vigorous with smarter choices in balanced, healthy foods. Tips #6: Stretch out after Green Tea Green tea does more than kick-start your metabolism. Green tea contains an amino L-theanine. This amino increases your brain wave activity, leading to a more focused, yet calm, piece of mind. Take advantage of this energy by taking a simple walk before starting your day. A simple walk every day can lose up to three pounds per month! Don't Miss Out! Free Personalised Diet Plan Based on Your Quiz Results. Free Weight Loss Products' Buyers Guide : How to Choose the Right Weight Loss Product. That is over thirty pounds in one year. Walking is good cardiovascular exercise and burns calories. Exercise also releases endorphins, making you feel great! Green tea keeps your arteries around your heart open and flexible, making it a good addition to a heart-healthy diet. Tips #7: Paying it Forward Now that you have learned how to lose weight with green tea, tell others what you know! Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions. Almost one in three people are overweight or obese. Losing weight with green tea may change someone’s life! All of the information about green tea and weight loss is useless until you finally put that knowledge to action. Review these tips and try to make them habits (especially one to three). At first, it may be hard to stick to it, but soon enough they will become second nature (as will purchasing clothes that are smaller and looking better in the mirror). Eventually, you will have your own green tea tips to share with others just starting out. Tips #8: Choose Your Weight Loss Tea Carefully There are hundreds of green tea brands out there, only a few are made for the purpose of boosting the weight loss capabilities of green tea. We have included the top brands that are made specefically to help you lose weight, these particular brands have countless user reviews from satisfied customers. 63.

You may have heard that green tea can be good for your heart. But don’t confuse a cup of tea with green tea extract powder. Some supplements containing the ingredient are promising weight loss and a healthier metabolism but the experts at Consumer Reports have concerns, because higher concentrations of green tea extract can be really dangerous because it can potentially cause serious liver damage. Plus the herb itself has been found to alter the effectiveness of a long list of drugs including certain antidepressants and certain anticlotting medications. It can also elevate your heart rate and blood pressure. And researchers suggest that up to 10 percent of people who suffer acute liver failure from green tea extract may die as a result. Consumer Reports put Green Tea Extract Powder on it’s list of 15 supplement ingredients to avoid. The manufacturers who make these supplements are not required to prove to federal regulators that their products are effective or even safe before they’re sold, so you really don’t know what you’re buying. And studies have also found that even in high doses green tea probably won’t help you lose weight. It’s true that green tea can raise your metabolic rate, so you burn more calories, but that’s probably just due to its caffeine and catechins - the antioxidants found in green tea. Consumer Reports says most people can reap the health benefits of green tea with a couple of cups a day. Consumer Reports has long advocated for measures that would improve supplement safety and give the FDA greater authority to remove potentially harmful dietary supplements from the marketplace. For now, check out its list of 15 supplement ingredients to avoid which includes green tea extract powder, kava, caffeine powder and red yeast rice.

 72.

Does green tea help you lose weight? More specifically, does Mega T Green Tea help weight loss? That's the question I asked myself when I first saw Mega T Green Tea in stores and in TV commercials. For this review I went to the Mega Green Tea website and also investigated the company which makes this green tea supplement. I also searched for the weight loss evidence for Mega T Green Tea and the evidence for each of Mega T Green Tea's ingredients. Hopefully this review will help you make a better decision about green tea supplements. Mega Green Tea Products I will focus on the company's product most familiar product—Mega T Green Tea —but I quickly discovered on the product's website (mega-diet.com) that there are several versions of this green tea weight loss supplement. They are: Mega Green Tea with Acai Mega T Green Tea water pill Mega Green Tea packets Caffeine-free Mega Green Tea Mega Green Tea Ingredients According to the product's website (mega-diet.com) Mega T Green Tea has these ingredients: Calcium carbonate 100 mg Chromium 250 mcg Proprietary blend 750 mg Green tea leaf extract Caffeine Eleuthero root extract Fo ti root Garcinia extract Guarana seed extract Bladderwrack kelp Gotu kola The first thing to understand is that there is no published peer reviewed evidence for either Mega T Green Tea or its proprietary blend of ingredients. I know this is true because when I searched the National Library of Medicine for “Mega T Green Tea” and “Mega Green Tea” no studies showed up. Another issue I noticed was that I could not tell how much actual green tea is in Mega T Green Tea. So, since the product itself seems to have no direct proof, let's look at the weight loss research on the ingredients in Mega T Green Tea and see what we can find. Calcium Carbonate Does calcium help you lose weight? Well, one 10-year-long study noted that people who consumed more calcium tended to weigh less. The trend was so in men calcium might not work. One problem with the idea of calcium and weight loss is that other research finds that . While the issue of calcium works or not is a totally different problem, one thing to consider is that Mega T Green Tea does not provide a lot of calcium —only 100 mg per pill (or 300 mg if you take the suggested 3 pills per day). Either way, I'm generally not too impressed with the weight loss evidence I see for calcium supplements. Tip. For comparison, one 8 oz cup of milk also has about 300 mg of calcium. Chromium Many weight loss supplements contain chromium. Just a few that I've already investigated include QuickTrim, Avesil, and This is ironic because there is a bunch of research showing chromium supplements do not help weight loss. Chromium may help, so that I can understand. Maybe they add it because we get hungry when our blood sugar falls and anything that helps keep our blood sugar from dropping might stop us from overeating? Ok—maybe—but as for chromium causing weight loss— I just don't buy it. The proprietary blend in Mega Green Tea has several ingredients. We are not told how much each contributes to the blend, only that the total adds up to 750 mg. For this review, I will assume that the proprietary blend contains more of the ingredients listed at the top and less of those listed last.

This tasted like the recipe for Chinese steamed cake (on this website). I used one cup of white sugar. I didn't have any black sesame seeds, but it was delicious anyways. Brilliant. not greasy and fluffy. the only thing is i dont know how to fold the white to the yolk mixture, i have to MIX it. theres several parts of the yolk mixture that doesnt really mixed wel... This was surprisingly easy to make. I used my B&D Electric Steamer. I poured most of the recipe into the oval plastic container and the rest into 4 ramekins. It took about 15 minutes for the ram... it tastes great. the only problem i have with it is that it's a little dry. it's really good to eat with milk. =D i've made it several times now and it's definitely a favorite. The only way I could get this cake to cook was to put the batter onto wax paper, and place that directly onto the bamboo steamer. Served with light whipped and frozen raspberries. But certain teas are also perfect for doing something else—helping you lose extra weight. Each of these 5 Best Teas for Weight Loss has its own individual, magic properties, from dimming your hunger hormones to upping your calorie burn to—literally—melting the fat that’s stored in your fat cells. Oh, and they can also help reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes, too. (Stick to 3-4 cups—or tea bags—of tea per day, and choose brewed varieties over bottled to avoid extra calories and sweeteners.) MELT UP TO 10 POUNDS IN ONE WEEK! WITH OUR BEST-SELLING NEW DIET PLAN, The 7-Day Flat-Belly Tea Cleanse! Test panelists lost up to 4 inches from their waist! Available now in paperback! Green Tea DRINK THIS: Lipton, Yogi BECAUSE IT: Unlocks your fat cells Before a workout, turbocharge the fat-blasting effects by sipping a cup of green tea. In a recent 12-week study, participants who combined a daily habit of 4-5 cups of green tea each day with a 25-minute sweat session lost an average of two more pounds than the non tea-drinking exercisers. Thank the compounds in green tea called catechins, flat belly crusaders that blast adipose tissue by triggering the release of fat from fat cells (particularly in the belly), and then speeding up the liver’s capacity for turning that fat into energy. Oolong Tea DRINK THIS: Bigelow, Stash BECAUSE IT: Boosts metabolism Oolong, a Chinese name for “black dragon, ” is a light, floral tea that, like green tea, is also packed with catechins, which help to promote weight loss by boosting your body’s ability to metabolise lipids (fat). A study in the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine found that participants who regularly sipped oolong tea lost six pounds over the course of the six-week time period. That’s a pound a week! Shed more belly flab—rapidly—with one of the 4 Teas That Melt Fat! Mint Tea DRINK THIS: Tazo, Teavana BECAUSE IT: Wards off the munchies Fill a big teacup with soothing peppermint tea, and sniff yourself skinny! While certain scents can trigger hunger (a trick Cinnabon figured out long ago), others can actually suppress your appetite. One study published in the Journal of Neurological and Orthopaedic Medicine found that people who sniffed peppermint every two hours lost an average of 5 pounds a month. (Although tea is relatively low in caffeine—about 25% of what a cup of coffee delivers—decaffeinated varieties are great to have on hand for a soothing bedtime treat.) Consider also adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your pillow or burning a minty candle to fill the room with slimming smells. MELT UP TO 10 POUNDS IN ONE WEEK! White Tea DRINK THIS: Twinings, The Republic of Tea, Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime BECAUSE IT: Prevents new fat cells from forming White tea is dried naturally, often in sunlight, making it the least processed and richest source of antioxidants among teas (as much as three times as many polyphenols as green tea!). A study published in the journal Nutrition and Metabolism showed that white tea can simultaneously boost lipolysis (the breakdown of fat) and block adipogenesis (the formation of fat cells) due to high levels of ingredients thought to be active on human fat cells. And keep your waistline toned and tight—in record time—with these essential 7 Best Foods for Rapid Weight Loss. Rooibos Tea DRINK THIS: Celestial Seasonings, Harney & Sons BECAUSE IT: Regulates fat-storage hormones Rooibos tea is made from the leaves of the “red bush” plant, grown exclusively in the small Cederberg region of South Africa, near Cape Town. What makes rooibos tea particularly good for your belly is a unique and powerful flavonoid called Aspalathin. Research shows this compound can reduce stress hormones that trigger hunger and fat storage and are linked to hypertension, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Yup, sometimes the kettle can be as effective as the kettlebell.
